Lyrics
Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a' cruisnin' down the ville
The muezzin was a' standing
On the radiator grille
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a wiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way
As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
He thinks it's not kosher
Fundamentally he can't take it.
You know he really hates it.

I am in the eighth grade. In my class, there is a kid who has some sort of learning disability, but it has never been specified what exactly is wrong with him. Anyway, on my last day of seventh grade, he invited me to his house for a "dance party," and since one of my other friends was going to be there, I said "sure." When I got there, the two kids were taking turns playing songs on UA-cam. I put this song on, and it's been his favorite song ever since. He asks me to pull out my phone and put it on everyday, and he mimics Joe Strummer's dances and expressions. He knows every word, and it brings all of us joy when we see him dancing and singing along.

In 1979, the mad Mullahs of the new revolutionary Islamist Iran banned Western music. In 1982, The Clash wrote a song about it. Still great 42 years later.
Ive wondered about that. ty.
I agree it's still a great song. It's a shame a music group felt hat they needed to address the issue on a worldwide scale. I was to believe "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do"!!! In other words, when in America, one should speak English for the most part, if possible. And, when in another person's country, you respect their traditions!!! When went to Italy, my grandmother made me speak Italian b/c her parent's didn't teach her cuz she was being raised as an American in America. Sure, they followed ld school traditions w/ in he hme but that ws it. When I lived in Mexico, I spoke Spanish & followed their traditions such as Cinco de Myo, etc. In my home there, I continued my Italian cooking & traditions. What was wonderful is we all learned to appreciate our differences; not ee the as negatives. Maybe, we can all learn from this tale!!!! The world would be far more tolerance & a lot less hate; in my opinion ONLY. What does everyone else think???
@@elisacucc1967 It was the Islamic revolutionaries who banned music in Iran, the tradition had been that it wasn't banned.
On a wider level, music is part of the human race's tradition. Trying to ban music is against nature, and is not respectful of our tradition.
@@elisacucc1967the Islamic regime of Iran is evil… the president that died in a helicopter crash was known as the butcher of Tehran and executed by hanging and torture tens to hundreds of thousands of people in the 80s for fighting against the revolution..for starters. Rock the casbah... Lima Perú
It's a shame that so many people misinterpret this song.
"Rock the Casbah" is meant to mean "jam out to music," not "blowing it up."
It's an ode to disobeying tyrants. In the song, even the Sharif's jet fighters ignore the unreasonable orders given to them and tune into the music instead.
Yup. This is an 80's song and an 80's message.
and Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet ride isn't about mankinds first faster than light space flight either. Its all about the associating the tune to the current era's theme and sentiment.
@ted ritola

''Pedophile imam don't like it, fuck the fatwa, fuck the fatwa''
''Mohamed was a murderous child- rapist, fuck mohamedans , fuck mohamedans''
*Sounds about right, YES* !?

James Lee lmao I agree bro
No matter what decade, I will never get sick of this song! Take me back the 70's and 80s, when music was real and meant something!
This band made great music and this one's really awesome
@@micaheiber1419 No, actually the quality of art is declining in general. It's not a myth, it's a known movement called postmodernism, which claims that aesthetics and beauty have no objective standards. And it has slowly been taking hold of our society and cultural standards more and more, decade by decade. It's even objectively true that movies are doing worse in terms of sales and public interest. I'm sure that good music is still being created, but the problem is that it is being spread thin, and it is not being promoted as it has historically, probably do to our superficial society and culture losing its ability to know what good aesthetics are. Too much propaganda as well.
Well said, friend
Yessssss!

Favorite Moment: when the sheik is dancing as he is gassing up the Cadillac. Gets me every time.
One of the most influential songs of all time. May it never be swept under the rug again.
