Quality Music/Tv/Music ended in 2000 because Iran and China started threatening major figures friends and family with death behind the scenes. Cancel culture... That's of China and Iran. Everyone buying into it, and it sucks that my fellow Americans are too uneducated and apathetic to see through the thin veil of propaganda. I do know some friends in punk bands, and been busting out lyrics with my song: I didn't start the baron. Maybe time to start music as an old punk... But time is short, and I'm making video games...
Every freaking day should be international clash day! Joe Strummer is not resting in peace, he is fighting for unity every nanosecond! When you punk rock you don’t stop!
I used to think music sucked in the '80s. Then for fun I made a list of all my favourite musical acts and 75% of them were in the '80s. More variety, that's for sure.
I am in the eighth grade. In my class, there is a kid who has some sort of learning disability, but it has never been specified what exactly is wrong with him. Anyway, on my last day of seventh grade, he invited me to his house for a "dance party," and since one of my other friends was going to be there, I said "sure." When I got there, the two kids were taking turns playing songs on UA-cam. I put this song on, and it's been his favorite song ever since. He asks me to pull out my phone and put it on everyday, and he mimics Joe Strummer's dances and expressions. He knows every word, and it brings all of us joy when we see him dancing and singing along.
One more song that brings back so many incredible memories from the 80s. We were working in the summer camp out of Montreal, a few hours away from it. We were, me and my friends, 15 years old and this was one of the song that we listened to for the first time and kept listening so much. It was a interesting, difficult and fun summer, working as a teen, really hard, but also enjoying this great punk band and this great song. So nostalgic and so great to hear it now. I just turned 57 recently and it is just as good now, at it was back then.
Strange thing about the 80's and the music from that era . .it seems to evoke happy memories with anybody who lived through that era as I have experienced myself . . ..even through the hard economic times people still have great memories of this era more than any other era.

I was born in '94 but first heard this around '97. My mum has good taste and had this song on a 7" vinyl. I would apparently ask her to keep playing this song over and over until I fell asleep from dancing to it. She remembers better than I do. 25 years later and it's still one of my favourite driving songs in my lorry at work. 40 years of this masterpiece? Damn!

I used to love this album ( Combat Rock). I was age 13/14 living in New Zealand and had this on cassette. Remember them ! ? These days kids think cds are old fashioned !! I used to listen to it on my walkman, loved every song on the album. Now im 42, where did the time go ! I dont really want to get older, lose my vitality, energy and strength, but i dont want to die either. Life is a strange thing. And If you find love with someone then dont mess it up, its hard to find, thats my tip of the day, maybe even my tip of a lifetime
justmadeit2 as long as the walk-man didn't eat the cassette tape! And some of them had FFWD only and crappy headphones at best. BUT they were the **it!
Why do you think that kids think CDs are old fashioned? Not all do. I appreciate the comment, but as a "kid" by definition, I can definitely tell you that I believe the CD is an amazing revolutionary technology. Maybe it's just me, but I personally believe the Atari 2600 is new technology.
In 1979, the mad Mullahs of the new revolutionary Islamist Iran banned Western music. In 1982, The Clash wrote a song about it. Still great 42 years later.
I agree it's still a great song. It's a shame a music group felt hat they needed to address the issue on a worldwide scale. I was to believe "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do"!!! In other words, when in America, one should speak English for the most part, if possible. And, when in another person's country, you respect their traditions!!! When went to Italy, my grandmother made me speak Italian b/c her parent's didn't teach her cuz she was being raised as an American in America. Sure, they followed ld school traditions w/ in he hme but that ws it. When I lived in Mexico, I spoke Spanish & followed their traditions such as Cinco de Myo, etc. In my home there, I continued my Italian cooking & traditions. What was wonderful is we all learned to appreciate our differences; not ee the as negatives. Maybe, we can all learn from this tale!!!! The world would be far more tolerance & a lot less hate; in my opinion ONLY. What does everyone else think???
@@elisacucc1967 It was the Islamic revolutionaries who banned music in Iran, the tradition had been that it wasn't banned. On a wider level, music is part of the human race's tradition. Trying to ban music is against nature, and is not respectful of our tradition.

I came by to see shots of Austin from the 80s. 01:41 Looks very much like Freddo ATX on South Congress, the historic Walter Tips House. 02:02 The Alamo Hotel, once Prez Johnson's brother's place. Now the site of the tallest building in Austin, The 6th and Guadalupe. The hotel also seen in Pancho and Lefty video. 03:05 is the Crest Inn, now The Line hotel. The City Coliseum, gone. That armadillo got a work out!
The jet fighters are likely landing at Bergstrom AFB, now the site of Austin-Bergstrom international airport. I also got a brief glimpse of The Posse East which had great burgers.
@@walterhoenig6569 that is not actually the posse east (which still exists). Apparently what we see in the video was just ‘The Posse’ which was in west campus somewhere. Source: buddy of mine who went to UT in late 70s
@@micaheiber1419 No, actually the quality of art is declining in general. It's not a myth, it's a known movement called postmodernism, which claims that aesthetics and beauty have no objective standards. And it has slowly been taking hold of our society and cultural standards more and more, decade by decade. It's even objectively true that movies are doing worse in terms of sales and public interest. I'm sure that good music is still being created, but the problem is that it is being spread thin, and it is not being promoted as it has historically, probably do to our superficial society and culture losing its ability to know what good aesthetics are. Too much propaganda as well.
Rock the Casbah is a great song by The Clash, I will never forget the first time I saw the video on MTV and I also really like "London Calling" too! I've said it before and I will say it again: "If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 80's YOU were blessed!"
@@wonderfulhumanbeingwithagr6381 same. I so wish I was from the era of The Clash, but as a gen z, those songs are what everyone my age knows. The Clash just hits different
I’ve always thought that too…..I was born in 72 and had the fortune to be in a city with a fantastic oldies station, phoenix, with kool fm, so I got schooled in the roots of the music that was popular when I was a kid…….
I read Joe actually shed tears when he heard a missile with the words “Rock the casbah” written on it by US military members was fired on Iraqi people. If war could be only fought by the old men who initiated it & no other civilians, wars might be far less frequent, might solve problems another way. I friend showed me this song while we worked at a Summer Camp Together in 2018, I lost him this year and this song reminds me so much of him and his attitude. Rest in peace dear friend.
Sorry to hear about your friend but oddly enough I had always listened to this song when I was little but didn’t really “listen” to it until the summer of 2018 working my summer job as well. But for real I hope you get some fond memories of him listening to this.
I grew up on MTV. I love and appreciate all genres of music. There was freestyle like Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, Yo MTV Raps with Eric B and Rakim, all the English New Wave music like Depeche Mode. It was a good time in America during this 1980's. I miss that time. I had a 1988 Ford Bronco with a 351 Windsor engine, and I was young and jamming to music all the time. I was girl crazy and every song from that time period still makes me want to party.
This music video, with the Jew and the Muslim having fun and hanging out, makes me wanna cry with how things are going in Israel right now. so sad. makes me wanna cry

On weekends I usually have time with my son, a 2 years old baby boy. And when I am with him, I play this song and he sings the chorus as well as he can. He is learning how to speak. We don't speak English but we have fun dancing and listening The Clash. Music of The Clash is amazing.
My son was 2 1/2 or so. I'm off work early so I pick him up. He gets in his seat I buckle him up and we go. "so what will it be today Buddy? That Ronald McDonald cd you like or some barney?" he looks at me and says "play the spank me song Daddy" I said "what? what song is that?" It dawns on me little dude wanted to listen to DEVO.
The Clash is undoubtablyone of the most underrated bands in history they were definitely one of the first punk bands to get recognition and cross over into a top 40 hit goodshit guys the song always makes me bop around and get down with the tune long live the Clash!
I love the clash. Love this song though it saddens me. I had a little step brother that loved this song. Hed go berserk singing and dancing when id play it. He didnt understand the lyrics. He swore they were singing Dr. JAZBA instead of Rock the Casbah. We had serious arguments over it. He won. I miss that little guy. Its been 35 years since ive seen or heard from him. Most people don't realize this was filmed in Austin Texas, but as someone who has lived in Austin all their life, it's where I come to take a small trip back in time, to see various things that remind me of my childhood in the 70s and 80s
"Most people don't realize" that the armadillo was a big clue as to where this video was shot (they're only found in Central and South America and the U.S.)
Name me some songs on UA-cam chat room music room from 1970 to 1980 to I mean 1999 I bet you I know what year they are if you put it on UA-cam back to me
As an Iranian this song and the story behind it (which is directly about "western music" getting kinda bannded after the 1979 Islamic revolution and in general about freedom of speech and though) has a cozy warm place in my heart. and with all the bullshit going on here these days and the corrupt religious authoritarian government , this song is making much more sense. long live equ(al)ity freedom and peace. p.s.(let's not mention this song getting mutilated in early 90's. we all know the truth)

In 1979, the mad Mullahs of the new revolutionary Islamist Iran banned Western music. In 1982, The Clash wrote a song about it. Still great 42 years later.
Ive wondered about that. ty.
