What do you think is the hardest Bob Ross Landscape Painting?
Let me know in the comments below
Forest Edge, Season 23 Ep. 2... Looked easy enough and I thought it would be good practice since I struggle with trees and foliage. Not only was it a huge muddy mess, but had oily drips from too much liquid clear! Yes, it ended up in the trash. Haven't gotten up the nerve to try it again. Still traumatized 😅
You should review Kevin hill oil painting products, they are actually better than bob ross products because all the brushes are natural bristle
I have actually heard mixed reviews on them. So I am interested in trying them out. I just need more funds my way to say up for them so I can test them out.
Ha ha ha - Let me just say BEEN THERE.
I would say try it again this next weekend. For this one you dont need much LC at all. Apply the LC across the entire canvas then take a blue paper towel and lightly wipe it off (like no pressure though). It will leave what you need. Then you will be good to go.
This was a fun video wild. The first one i tried was the hour long special. For months I had been wanting to try painting like this. Finally pulled the trigger and got the brushes, paints, a steady easel. Everything. 10 minutes in, my painting was a mess and was feeling terrible. TO MUCH MAGIC WHITE. Finally after the 3rd try I finally had something that was looking like a hangable painting! Anyway, the hour long special was (in my opinion) HARD!
Bob Ross was a speed painter. He actually had taken lessons from Bill Alaxander, the inventor of terms like "happy little clouds" etc. If you binge watch him, you'll see his earlier work was done very simple and if you have painted at all easy. Even his later paintings to professional artists were nowhere near fine art, but he never claimed it to be, he even stated that on the Phil Donahue show once. He was out to sell products and never sold neither painting off the show. He sold tutorial videos, and artist products, which could be very expensive. His wet-on-wet method was a very old method of painting. I paint with acrylics, and use the same type of method, only acrylics dry fast, so I allow time for that sometimes. I never learned much about how to paint by Ross, but almost all my inspiration as a kid come from him, i wished he was still around, a truly decent person....
I think we all wish he was still around. The good news is he is still inspiring us ❤
I’m new to painting, I’ve done 21 Ross paintings up to date. Mountains, clouds and reflection seem to be easy for me but struggling with trees and bushes. I enjoyed and agree with your list. I also wanted to thank you for suggesting on another video to check out Bill Alexander, it definitely helped me.
I am glad that my videos are helping you out.
I too still struggle with trees and bushes especially the highlights that go on them ha ha ha
Cool video! Watching Bob Ross and Bill Alexander painting videos has saved my life.
They are so much fun to watch.
I did that "Night Light" painting a couple of times. It didn't seem that hard. Only problem I had was the yellow paint I used didn't show up super-bright like in the video. The solution there was to just add a little white paint to make it stand out a bit more. I also hate how Bob Ross always used a knife to make buildings and such; it's WAY easier to just use a flat brush!
They yellow you might have been using was transparent or semi-transparent. Adding the white fixed that issue for ya... so smart move 🔥
This was fun! I did the Mountain Challenge and truly surprised myself! It was a very satisfying and confidence building challenge! Thank you for putting this together!
It really is a fun when and YES it is a challenge. Have you tried any others on the list.
This is an outstanding video. Makes you look at what skills you need and what you should work on.
I know right - This was a huge video to make... So I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Maybe you will give one a try ha ha ha
I am so impressed with this video bud.. I've always wanted to watch a video like this on bobs paintings
ALSO doing a bob ross painting in acrylic only. To add to the challenge
Glad you enjoyed the video. If you are trying to do a BR painting with acrylic be sure to check out this video on some tips:
ua-cam.com/video/LFqd-jj1lQ8/v-deo.html
I suck at pallet knives ... Ive done a few successful abstracts with them, and one little 6"×8" waterfall that's just textured layers of browns and Grey's with water in the middle. I don't have cool shaped ones like that tho... just a basic one with a long thin diamond shaped blade.
Did you see my short on how to hold the knife? It really helps when trying to make effects. Give it a peep below:
ua-cam.com/users/shortsonMrM1XuFSo?feature=share
Yup, I have watched at least a few of these for ideas and skipped rather quickly to other episodes {shudder}. Great video, as always!
Bwah ha ha ha.
Sounds about right and I feel ya there. Some of these are intimating
i totally agree with this list and also goes to show how even the most old kevin hill painting videos are tough as nails to do
Glad that you enjoyed the list.
I can’t get my contact paper to stick to the canvas well enough to use it effectively. I do love the effects of using different tape widths.. try it, it takes your painting to a different level.
its really fun using masking tapes and contact paper
I've done the campfire one as a beginner painter and I had your videos to give me the courage to try! I even tagged you on Instagram when I did it Wild (it was a while back), I was so proud. It was darker than I had liked, but a good first Bob Ross try. Thank you Wild for all your work educating us on how to do Bob Ross paintings!
I am glad that you are enjoying my videos.
I just took a look and couldn't find your tagged post. Feel free to DM it to me on IG, that way it pops to the top and I can enjoy your awesome artwork
@@WildCreates It was really a while back ago and I had to delete that Instagram account because I got hacked. I'll see if I can find the piece again and scan it for you.
Please do - I would love to see it. Make a new IG and share your awesomeness with the world and me :)
You had me laughing through the whole video 😆
I'm definitely not ready for these, but hopefully... some day.
Glad I can make you smile.
When you are ready - I am sure one of these will give you a challenge.
What a great video you did here on Bob and his work. "After the Rain", is my favourite painting he ever did. Absolutely love it. I've watched it a hundred times.

@@WildCreates thank you.
You are super welcome
Very interesting video as usual!
Glad you like it.
Maybe when you feel brave you will give it a go
Yay! Number 2 was ironically my 2nd painting ever and even though it turned out nice and I'm very proud of it. It could of been better and felt a little over my head. So its nice to see it on here. Could you please do an Bill Alexander list?
Ha ha ha awesome. I love your ambition :)
I plan on making some for Bill alexander - I just haven't seen them all yet. So I still have some research to do. Make sure you hit that sub button to know when it goes live.
Wow I always thought of Bob Ross paintings as on the easier side of the scale I had no idea!
Yeah - He has a lot of range that he normally does get credit for
Love this list thank you. When I move up in skill I'm gonna try each one. I'm so up for the challenge.
When you do try, let me know which one you go with.
Make sure to hit that sub button if you are enjoying the channel.
@Wild Creates absolutely and I can send it to you also :_) I also subscribed this morning lol I also made a Playlist just for that list 😄
Thanks for that sub love ❤
I love the "real talk"...."well, you're screwed"! LOL
Glad I can give ya a little giggle with your art :)
I enjoyed watching this video and must honestly say that I have painted most of them with the exception of the knife painting.
Most of them are hanging on my walls or on the walls of friends and family
You are a very brave soul - which one was hardest for you when you painted it.
I’ve done waterfall in the woods and nightlight and they are the 2 best paintings I’ve ever done.
I would love to see them sometime.
the first time I tried a Bob Ross painting was Mountain by the sea... and I struggled, didn't come out too bad but definitely not as good as his, by far. I didn't know how to assess how difficult a painting would be. I will start with the easiest ones and try to get better;-)
Best to start easy and work up from there. Here is a list of some of the easiest BR paintings and why they are easy: ua-cam.com/video/MwD75p7l7bU/v-deo.html
Give it a go.
I'm impressed with how much Bob Ross you had to watch and assemble to make this vid! I also enjoyed this idea of ranking these paintings. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am a fan and an avid painter myself he he he.... so it was kinda fun to research.
Plus I really think this video will help new painters discover paintings they should keep away from or try for a challenge.
As someone who painted all 403 of Bob’s paintings I have to agree with most of the ones on your list. If I had to say the most difficult I’d say “Mountain by the Sea,” “Royal Majesty” or “Mountain Splendor.” In all three there is a lot going on and you really have to methodically go through them in order to have success
Oh hell ya, Way to dominate the Joy of Painting buddy. I am curious to think what was the most complex one for you ( not the most difficult ) Like what painting was different or maybe you change your approach?
I would also be curious to hear your thoughts on my top 10 easiest:
ua-cam.com/video/MwD75p7l7bU/v-deo.html
@@WildCreates most complex I’d have to say either “Royal Majesty” or “Mountain Splendor.” With Royal Majesty by the time you put in the evergreens you have a lot of layers of paint already on the canvas you have to go over top of. I pretty much had to use straight liquid black in order to make it work.
I’ll get back to you on the easiest ones. Generally I say winter scenes are easier because the grass is covered by snow ;-)
You and I have many of the same on our list of easiest. My four easiest would be "Ocean Sunrise", "Grey Winter," "Quiet Pond" and "Winter Solitude."
Great video. I think my hardest challenge was painting a Bob Ross in under ten minutes. I'm naturally a slow painter but I managed to paint one in seven minutes. It includes sky, clouds, mountains. a lake, bushes, two trees and grass/foreground. The canvas is already prepared with liquid white before you begin.
Dang that is impressive. There is nothing wrong with painting slow... I actually enjoy it, feels more therapeutic. I will have to check out your paintings sometime.
@@WildCreates It was just an exercise I had to do on my CRI course. To be honest I needed it.I was the slowest in the class. And it is a great way of not getting bogged down with perfection as you have no time to fiddle with mountains etc.
Dope - Many artist will do a 2, 5, 10 & 20 in challenge to test their skills for the same reason
I love your videos and want more
Make sure to hit that Sub button and your dreams will come true.
It’s a shame that the hardest painting are usually the most beautiful
I know right BUT HEY... this give us something to aim for :)
I also tried two canvas painting also and It needs a lot of practice But it's fun to do.
I am glad you had a blast painting it :)
@@WildCreates Yup Especially I like to painting the day and night winter scene. Cause I wanna Show the sun and moon in my painting.
its super cool when you can have different seasons shown 💪
That's what I'm working at,mills and omg I have scraped so many canvases.
Ha ha ha - Mills are so hard ha ha ha
Season 5 Episode 13 Meadow Stream . . . it got me! I was sweating like a virgin at a prison rodeo by the time I got to the stream. By then I just EFF it! There was enough mud there to cover a hog. I had to walk away from it. As always thanks for your insight. Sometimes I get too overzealous when watching Bob. But hey, my little shack barn turned out awesome!
Bwah ha ha ha... NICE.
Yeah I think we all have that moment where you wanna go to big too fast. If you need something to re-calibrate on pick one from the top ten easiest:
ua-cam.com/video/MwD75p7l7bU/v-deo.html
Your videos are so entertaining! But more importantly they are really informative. That's what I need, but hey, add in floating poopyhead emojis and I'll be watching your channel all day long. Seriously, I just started painting and am looking what to do and what not to do, so this was great! Thanks!!
Ha ha ha - I will see what what I can toss in the videos to grab your attention. Make sure to hit that sub button to know when my videos go live. I also did a top 10 easy bob ross if you wanna check that out:

Bob: beat the devil out of it
Me: ok
Me: *precedes to punch bob repeatedly
These paintings will really test your limits ha ha ha
A mountainous job , really !
Glad you enjoyed the video... I also did a top 10 Easy Bob Ross, you might enjoy that video too: ua-cam.com/video/MwD75p7l7bU/v-deo.html
If we partially finish a painting and go back the next day, do we need to apply more liquid clear?
The answer is depends - Sometimes you dont have to cause your canvas will still be wet. But sometimes your canvas will tacky up. So you need to add a little medium to get it wet again. Best Answer I can give is test it before you start.
I did number two and number 5 as a new painter. My hardest part for number two were the waves and getting the shade right on the little house. I don't think it looks that great. Number five however turned out awesome. I did have a lot of trouble with all the trees on the left side but did okay with the cowboy. It was actually a commissioned painting I made money on.
I would love to see them if you have any images of them still.
Hey wild brilliant vid for those getting bored with the sky/mountains/water. Do you have a link for season 19 episode 6?
Thankyou.
Glad you like it. If you like this one, you will love my video that I just dropped this weekend. check itt out below:
ua-cam.com/video/yaVwa7qI_dY/v-deo.html
To find any BR tutorial just type the title or episode into YT with Bob Ross in there. And it will pop right up.
Thanks for the response wild, it was the vid you surgested that put me onto this one.
Unfortunately, for some reason or other the UK don't get all UA-cam vids that America get. 😢,
That is interesting - I wonder why? Try going to a website called: www.twoinchbrush.com/
The have them logged there BUT not sure if they are geo-locked
@@WildCreates thanks for the link, now I can see what they should look like, just need a "how to" now😉.
Just looked in BR UA-cam and Appart from contributions from other artists there isn't a great deal now. Real bummer.
My channel will help you out with the HOW ha ha ha
How would you have done this painting?
Which one?
My second Bob Ross painting I did I was Camp Fire. Took it seemed like forever to paint. I’m sure there are lots a mistakes, however I was impressed with myself when I finished.
Lol, I did the camp fire as one of my first canvases.
Twice...the second was better. And I did not include the cowboy😂
I would be curious to see the progression between 1 and 2
You brave soul you ha ha ha.
Your a baller for trying that one as your second painting ever.
@@WildCreates there was a big improvement on the second try🤗
I’d show you if I knew how to upload them
Twitter or IG is always a good place for it.
15 seconds in, honestly. I just want to see if I’m right but right off the bat I’d say avoid seascapes like the plague!
You will have to let me know what you think after you watch the hole video and see what I have to say
@@WildCreates First and foremost, I picked this up as a hobby during the pandemic, I don’t claim to be good in fact I suck but who cares, just for fun right? Sticking with what I’ve actually tried, “Waterfall in the Woods” wow. Was tempted because I think black canvasses are easier and look cool in the end. As a seasoned mud-mixer I 100% thought it looked easy too: liquid clear, wipe it down what can go wrong? Then you get to the waterfall, “little bit of liquid clear, just a little bit.” Well…what the he11 does that mean?!? Plus you really only get one shot so anxiety off the charts. I added one beer and that actually went okay but yeah you’re 100% right building the highlights and the grassy things on the rocks was a killer! Suddenly there’s something wrong with your brush it’s got one hair-lick going off in some random direction that’s driving you crazy plus it’ll never dry there’s no doubt that one was TOUGH! On an unrelated more positive note “Pretty Autumn Day” that’s one that went well for me, still hanging over the fireplace. Loved the video my friend thanks for putting it together.
Ha ha ha thanks for the awesome feedback and follow up - I am just glad to hear you found a creative outlet that you are enjoying ( .... at times ha ha ha, the struggles are real ha ha ha )
Not sure if you have seen it yet BUT I do have a video on the Top 10 easiest BR paintings. I would recommend start there or with anyone of my simple tutorials
Wondering if you would mention a person in a painting.
Bob didn't people much... Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 times.
What do you think are some of the hardest Bob Ross Landscape Paintings?
Let me know in the comments below.
All of them. And im not gonna try...yet anyway
I would say start with the easiest BR paintings first. Which you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/MwD75p7l7bU/v-deo.html
Dock scene. Season 7 episode 12
That one is tough - BUT I tried to stay away from buildings cause they would all be in the top ten ha ha ha
Thanos...
I mean, thanks!
You are super welcome.
Soi sáng có lẽ là kênh thông minh nhất🤓🤓
Hoặc kênh này là kênh thông minh nhất
Red Sunset - Season 9, Episode 3
Trying to get that sky just right is a bitch.
Ha ha ha - Try and making sure you don't cross contaminate your colors is really tough on that one too
If you copied everything thing bob did thats where you went wrong bob does it in about an hour you should take 24 hours over a week for most
👍
I'm struggling to figure out what the point of this video was for? To bash Bob Ross or to discourage us from painting?
You must not have watched the whole video or skipped around parts. Like I said, beginners should stay clear of these when starting out or If you are looking for a challenge try these. Make more sense.
@@WildCreates I watched the entire video from beginning to end. Personally...I enjoy learning to follow others who have mastered their own style of painting. I learn from them all and then I recreate step by step and although it not exactly like theirs...I'm learning different techniques. And I'm good with that experience. To each his own I suppose.
Not sure what this comment has to do with your first statement/comment. I am glad you are learning from other videos... But I told you the point of the video and you moved on to each his own... OK.
From what you wrote it sounds like this video is actually perfect for you. I showed you BR paintings that are difficult and what are the challenge elements in each. So, if you like and enjoy learning from others like you say... these would be fun to watch and recreate step by step with you own influence/style.
I loved this video. As a beginner, I appreciate Wild's experience about which paintings are more difficult. It is also nice to hear his tips and tricks to make a difficult painting easier.
I hate when people who make videos can't spell. There's really no excuse, especially with spell checkers. Maybe it was a typo. So proofread. You're screwed. Not YOUR screwed.
1) I am dyslexic
2) There is no spell check in video editing software
3) It is a free video so you can't really complain ha ha ha
No joke it bothers me too. I try to make everything perfect, but when you are staying up super late to pump out FREE content, sometimes your mind and fingers slip.
@@WildCreates OK. Thanks for the constructive criticism. Most people will just not say anything. I don't want to look stupid. So thank you. I believe that you meant it well.
No Problem, I actually really appreciate the people that catch my mistakes. Especially in the titles Or descriptions ( cause I can fix those ). Sadly in the video graphics, they are final unless I deleted the video and re-launched it. Which it would lose all the views and data if I did that.
Your face is in your videos too much. We don't have to see you as we can hear you explain things and this gives more time for video of the subject.
My face is the money maker though 😁
