I just bought a Woodford Reserve 1L store pick ($50.73 out the door) in upstate NY; it was $2 cheaper than a regular 1L bottle and the store name wasn't on the label on the bottle itself but had a metal tag with the stores name identifying it hanging from the bottle neck. I wish I had seen this video first, I would have asked them. 🥃CHEERS!
Glad you found the video helpful!!! I created a channel that I wish I had when I entered the world of bourbon. Wanted to create a one stop shop where you can learn all the terminology of bourbon.
Was waiting for a clear quick explanation Of a store pick. Had no idea what it meant watching all the review shows on YT. Finally this video pops up, it looks like, from a week ago. Thank you!
Andrew, so glad you found the video helpful. There is so much lingo around bourbon and my goal is to give everyone beginning bourbon a place to go to learn it all.
You bet my man! Lots of terminology in the bourbon game...just like any “hobby”. Check out and subscribe to my channel if you haven’t. My channel is dedicated to learning all the lingo / language of bourbon and what things mean on a bottle.
Just stumbled across a few store picks the other day at the local state liquor store here in Ohio. They had Yellowstone (109 proof and 119 proof), George Dickel 9 year (103 proof) and a couple others at the time. The dickel is incredibly smooth for such a relatively high proof. Have you tried Yellowstone yet? As I have not.
Tyler, that is great! I have tried Dickel Bottled in Bond and think it’s a great value. I have never tried Yellowstone (the reviews on it are so so. Solid juice but not great), but I would totally try a Yellowstone store pick!!!
@@beginningbourbon7385 I’m relatively “new” to the bourbon and whiskey game as I’ve just ventured down that rabbit hole around the start of quarantine last March since there wasn’t really a whole lot to do when everything closed up. What are some absolutely must try, best value bourbons that you could suggest? And if you’ve already done it, ignore my next question because I haven’t looked at your channel in depth yet, but can you go over getting the most out of your bourbon and how to train your palate?
Tyler, welcome to the world of bourbon!!! Glad you’re looking to get information and hopefully my videos can help you. Here are what I consider amazing values in bourbon: $20-$35: Wild Turkey 101, Old Tub, Old Grandad 114, Eagle Rare (tough to find in some areas), JTS Brown ($14 a bottle) $40-$60: Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel, Belle Mead Reserve, Old Forester 1920, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.
Also, rumor has it that OH gets ample supply of the brand “Weller”. Any offering from Weller is really good if you can get your hands on it. The journey of anyone just getting into whisky is finding out what your enjoy. Do you prefer high proof and a big punch of flavor and finish...or do you prefer a more muted flavor and gentler experience that a low proof bourbon offers.
@@beginningbourbon7385 eagle rare is damn impossible to find. That and Buffalo Trace are on my radar but nobody seems to have them. I’m assuming they’re an “allocated” brand? I heard that they’re incredible neat and are perfect for mixers. And I just picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 in a 1.75L last night and it was $52. They had Elijah Craig sitting on an end cap so I’ll have to pick that up on my next visit. I appreciate the info my brother.
Thanks Matt! I appreciate it! This channel is dedicated to all things one needs to know when getting into the bourbon. Feel free to ask any questions. Have a great day Bro!
Great question JR! It will almost always say on the bottle that is is a store pick. Their will be some marking denoting it as such. If in doubt, always ask a clerk if they have any store picks and show you where they are. Furthermore, most stores (at least it’s been my experience) will allow you to sample the store pick before you buy it. The only places where that isn’t an option are states that are “ABC Controlled” by the state government, such as here in NC.

Frank, awesome stuff! They are great bottles usually and provide just a bit different t flavor profile than the regular offering
Thank you bought my first today
Thanks, now that it's clear how a store gets a "pick", my goal is now to schmooze the owner into letting me in on the "picking"
Glad you enjoyed the video!!! Get in on a pick and that is next level.
As a newbie to bourbon, I'd always wondered about this. I just subscribed and will see what other great info is on your channel! TIA

JUST 2 weeks ago, I picked up a “Store Pick” on a recommendation and it led me to pick another 1 this week! Nice summary.
Right on James! What store pick do you get?
Thank you for answering this. I never understood what that meant when I'd watch other bourbon videos.
My pleasure man! That’s what my channel is all about. To learn all the terminology that goes along with bourbon.
thanks for the clear explanation.

Dude love the sweater. Where's it from??
Jimbo, I think I got it at Marshall’s and it’s a Banana Republic brand.
Old Tub what Jim Beam should be.
Great video! My local liquor store has a Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Rye store pick and it’s phenomenal! $59.99
Ryan, so true my man. Store picks, especially Knob Creek, are amazing! Such a fantastic value.

How do u know the item is a store pick ? Is it marked on the bottle or does the store put a sign up ?
