    I just bought a Woodford Reserve 1L store pick ($50.73 out the door) in upstate NY; it was $2 cheaper than a regular 1L bottle and the store name wasn't on the label on the bottle itself but had a metal tag with the stores name identifying it hanging from the bottle neck. I wish I had seen this video first, I would have asked them. 🥃CHEERS!

    Cool, thanks for this info. I find that as I try more bourbons, there are some that I gravitate towards. I couldn’t originally put my finger on why, but turns out it was because of the wheat. So much smoother and less jarring to my palate. That makes my selections easier going forward.

    I credit my brother-in-law for introducing me to Bourbon. I’m originally from Haiti, and, naturally, I’m a rum drinker. At the time he had 5 or 6 bottles, and he poured me a glass of Bulleit. I liked it, and when I asked about the characteristics and flavor profiles of the other bourbons, he could only tell me to what degree each would get me drunk or how bad the hangover would be. I’ve fallen in love with American whiskey since. I have not seen him a nearly two years partly because of the pandemic, and partly because of family turmoil. Even though I’m a newbie, I think I will invite him over for a whiskey flight. Hopefully, this will show him that Bourbon and Rye Whiskeys are to be sipped and enjoyed for their olfactory and gustatory qualities (and that his frat boy days are over! LOL)

    Another reason for ordering on the rocks at a bar is to extend the time between drinks. Typically bartenders and waitresses don't want to see patrons sitting there with an empty glass for long periods of time. On the rocks lets you gnaw on the flavored ice for quite a while after the whiskey is gone.

    Hi Brian, Can the infinity bottle have duplicate bottles of whisky in it? Or, should it just be a single bottle of a certain type? Meaning, if I have emptied 2 bottles of Eagle rare, should both bottle be in the infinity bottle? You may have addressed this in the video but, if you did, I missed it. Cheers!

    • @beginningbourbon7385

      Great question! The main thing with the infinity bottle is to add whatever whiskey you want to it. There is no hard and fast rule. I have absolutely added 2 ounces of one bottle and then a month later when I got the same bottle open it up and added in another 2 to 4 ounces of the same bottle. But do as you want! that’s what it’s all about! Creating your own blend out of your own unique choices.

    Once again, great video! a sad topic but you explained really well. Keep it up! I will be first to watch every time. much appreciated for the video Just like the example you just presented, there is an high barrier of entrance for new enthusiast. Way too often I have went to a liquor store where they have "nothing" but someone else walk in and they pull out something behind their counter for their buddies. So what do you do? You love this new hobby. You stick around and talk about whiskey and be friend the liquor store employees or owners. For granted, as an whiskey enthusiast, some of the best info only comes from these employees/owners and if you like whiskey, this is actually one of the fun parts. But man, sometimes it gets tiring for me and the store folks. ETL is a great example. It just hit my state warehouse and so far there is only 40 bottles in the warehouse (through chatting at liquor store, see). Which store is going to get it? How many is going to ACTUALLY show up on the shelf? no one knows. Don't get me wrong, I have met many friends through this journey. I love it. In my experience, sharing samples is way more realistic than owning a bottle of ETL for newbies. Till then, it is going to be a vicious cycle where people who know the liquor store owner get the bottles first and then share in their circle and eventually some may leak into secondary. I am not going to pay secondary but when I trade bottles with my circle, it is always valued by secondary pricings. I want to say I feel bad that some days I am the guy who gets the bottle behind the counter... Supply vs Demand I suppose.

It is a sad reality but true. At least it isn’t any different than most other hobbies. For example, if you want a Rolex right now you aren’t going to be able to buy one except for on the secondary market at secondary prices. Unless you have an in with an authorized dealer and they hook you up. Doesn’t make it an easier pill To swallow, but

    I KNEW that's what was coming! Hahaha! I also think that sometimes there are qualities in bourbons that get lumped into the similarly generic descriptor of "burn". There's the "burn" from a "hot" whiskey where you can taste and feel the alcohol very prominently, or the "spice" from maybe a high-rye bourbon that tingles like hot pepper, or whiskeys that are more tannic and have a drying sensation in your mouth, or that warming sensation from the Kentucky Hug after you swallow (which I think many of us actually find enjoyable, myself included). I hereby nominate "burn" as the second word to never use when describing whiskey! :-D

  • @ScottieByNature79
    @ScottieByNature79 3 роки тому

    Good stuff! Your sign-off endorsing friendly discussions and bourbon as a means to "add to life" was the nudge I needed to hit that subscribe button, so definitely keep that spirit going! As far as the neck pour phenomenon, even if we were to grant that it's a real thing (I personally need more hard evidence to be convinced of it) and if we were to grant that the whiskey in the neck of the bottle is objectively inferior to the juice behind it... why aren't more people just turning the bottle upside down a few times before they break the seal?! Problem solved, discussion ended! :-D

      Also, I don’t know of anyone that actually believes the whisky in the neck is inferior to the rest of the bottle. The context of “the neck pour” i Have encountered, is the idea that the bottle “opens up / changes” over time from the first pour to subsequent pours.
