Cheers for watching everyone! I'm packing up all of my things for either moving or storage, so I only had vocals shots for this one. This is the last song I've covered before moving to the states, so I thought it was a fitting choice. I have a few more saved up to release over the next month, before I have everything set up, so yis' might have to say goodbye to my trusted gigantic black backdrop! Leave any suggestions below. Thank you all for staying so handsome!
I know the song was written from the perspective of Bilbo returning home after his adventures with the dwarves, but I cant help but think this was also Peter Jackson saying goodbye to Middle Earth and the fans. A last goodbye to the stories and characters we love, turning towards paths that lead home
I agree, and not just him but all the (returning) actors who put so much love into it. I'm absolutely delighted with Billy singing this, and now here, which also very fitting. I've always felt that Hobbits were something between a stereotype Irish (Guinness, clover four, the music, green hills etc) and a British granddad/mum (tea, cozy jumpers, books, pipes, local food, not really bothering with the big wide world). So thi9s song feels a farewell to that.
My generation needs to hear and understand this. All they do is stare at their phones, and value material possessions over people whilst complaining everything isn't good enough as they sit on their high horse doing nothing to improve it. I recently read the hobbit and Thorin was one of my favourite characters, this quote rings true.
A home where you can actually feel safe, and loved, is something that unfortunately few people get to experience, and it is something that can absolutely change lives. Here's to Thorin's vision of a better future coming to our world!
@@Lets_Get_Creatingif I'm being honest, I get the impression that you are either misunderstanding Thorin, or are severely misunderstanding the people around you, and as a result pushing against the message. Many people have their problems, vices, and limitations, but focusing on living your best life and being a good example for the people around you is one of the greatest things that Thorin exemplified.
“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” J.R.R. Tolkien Safe travels Colm. This cover was beautiful.
Heck yeah. Tolkien was a Pilot who came up with DnD with other Pilots to do in their spare time because it was an escape fantasy from the war. He knew what horrors looked like. He apparent based the Blasted Dark Lands after Passchendale, where half a million soldiers died over Muddy trenches 6 feet deep that would become clogged & 'more stable but far more gruesome' when it was full of corpses.
My mother passed away two weeks ago after battling a resurgence of cancer. She was only 59 years old. She chose The Last Goodbye sung by Billy Boyd as one of the songs for her funeral service I really like your cover. She would have loved it too ❤
Your story sounds very similar to mine, I lost my mom to cancer a few years ago in the same way and we played Into the West and The Last Goodbye at her funeral. I still can't listen to either song without tearing up. My condolences for your loss, your mom sounds like she had great taste in music.
Lyrics for ease of following: I saw the light fade from the sky On the wind I heard a sigh As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers I will say this last goodbye Night is now falling, so ends this day The road is now calling and I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea Under cloud, beneath the stars Over snow and winter's morn I turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way, but now comes the day to bid you farewell Many places I have been. Many sorrows I have seen. But I don't regret, Nor will I forget All who took that road with me Night is now falling, so ends this day The road is now calling, and I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea To these memories I will hold, with your blessing I will go To turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way, but now comes the day To bid you farewell... ...I bid you all a very fond farewell.
Honestly got a little teary eyes listening to this. When I heard this with the last Hobbit movie it was a great ending to a story I love and it works so well in your style

You taken Billy Boyd's excellent take on The Last Goodbye and elevated it to a new height Colm. The Irish folk cover brings it truly to life. Best of luck in your move across the pond to the United States. Hopefully you will make a trip up to the west coast of Canada in the future, some amazing Irish pubs here and would love to buy you a pint.
Listening to this because a friend of mine suggested it after one of our mutual favorite content creators just passed. This is a beautiful cover, thank you for it. It's easing the pain of the loss, even if we didn't know him personally.
It is going to be 1 am in Japan. For you, I set an alarm. Born and raised in the States ― Best of luck on your new adventure! You will not regret meeting the people you are sure to encounter.
When Technoblade passed away, this was the next recommended video. I'd already listened to this last night, a few times actually, but, this time it felt different, it felt intentional. Like a last goodbye. I know Colm probably isn't particularly involved in the minecraft community and hell he might not even know Technoblade, but, eitherway just, thank you for making this, Colm. It means a lot, to a lot of people, I'm sure. Same is probably true for anyone who's lost someone recently. To auld lang syne
I love this song, and I love listening to the original by Billy Boyd, the covers by Clamavi De Profundis (a sweet, harmonic rendition) and by Dan Vasc (a strong, heartfelt tenor/rock ballad version) and at first I wasn't sold on your version Colm, until I closed my eyes and realised this was PERFECT for singing in a pub - perhaps filled with returned soldiers, started off by the sweetest voice of the group, then they all chime in at the chorus while arms around each other and holding their ales. In fact, I could imagine the four hobbits singing this at the Green Dragon at the end of the ROTK. The more I envisioned this as you sung, the more I thought - this is equally as beautiful as Billy's original and the covers I mentioned - I was in tears at the end, just like the other versions. Thank you so much for creating such wonderful music for all of us, good luck with your move and stay handsome! Cheers Chris.
It feels bittersweet that this video is what i listened to first thing the same time iw as reading about technoblade passing away... maaan this hit waaay harder than it had to for me today ;-;

There is something about the Irish Cadence that sparks a feeling of Defiant Victory in people who hear it. The way it goes from a somber melody, and can suddenly change into a Triumphant Chorus.
I re-watched the hobbit recently, finished the final movie and the original played. It's good, but I just can't stand it over this, this cover won my heart for the song so quick, I wish this was at the end of the movie
lol why am I crying. I'm happy but my heart feels like it's breaking at the same time. Its like i'm saying goodbye to all the characters all over again. Lol like their memories are my own.
This made me cry. Irish music is close to my heart, and I love the Lord of the Rings. This was absolutely incredible and made me both happy and inexplicably sad at the same time. I wish I could have said a last goodbye to my Irish Grandma. I hope she walks by silver streams that run down to the sea.
It's just so bittersweet when I hear this song I feel like a warrior who helped save something big needing to leave to go to somewhere along with leaving my fellow warriors who helped me in the fight
I've said a last goodbye to more people than most my age, so this song hits particularly hard. That said, I'm also grateful because the reason this hits so damn hard is because I had almost uncountable good memories with everyone I've said goodbye to. Great joy eventually brings great sorrow, but I'm so glad I had that joy in the first place.
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard and seeing you making a cover for it is a dream come true. Really can't bring myself to wait for it. Plus it fits perfect for celebrating the end of school😁
Welp I'm crying. The original got me and damn if this cover didn't too. After hearing this song at the ending of The Hobbit, realising our time with Middle Earth was over? You'd have to be made of stone not to shed a tear.
I played this before going to my US Army training, and now I play it having returned. This holds a huge meaning for me as it was the last song I heard with my friends before leaving them for a long time. Thank you, Mr. McGuinness.
I have always loved this song it has deep meaning for me and to hear this version with the beautiful Irish accent makes it that bit more special and emotional, I love the Irish such poetry and folk songs such love in all their works

Yeah...i came here expecting to choke up...and i did. When i first heard Billy's original of this song i cried like a baby and every cover since just brings back all that emotion. Such a beautiful song. Thank you Colm for an awesome cover of one of my favorite songs.
This hit me like a truck. Thank you for the beautiful cover, Colm. It- it just made me think of my old pup back home, Ralphie. He's about 16 years old, and my best friend for the past 10 years. He's showing signs of decline and canine dementia. I'm away at college right now, and I worry I won't be able to be with him when... when the time inevitably comes, like how I wasn't able to be there with my other pup Duke, who passed last September, and I just woke up the morning after to get the call that he was put down. I never got to say goodbye. The last thing I ever did for him was clip his nails and fur the week or so before when I'd been home for labor day. I know Ralphie's time is now coming relatively soon... and I don't want to not be able to say goodbye to him, to my best friend because I'm away at school and he's back home. If I can be there with him... I will sing this to the best of my ability as I hold him for the last time. 😢😢❤🩹 *UPDATE* 11/1/24 What I feared happened... last night I got the call😭💔. My best friend had to be put down, and I couldn't be there with him... my last goodbye to Ralphie was when I came home for the weekend after my birthday. Just like with Duke, the one of the last things I did for him was clip his nails and trim his paw pads to help him stand. I wish that wasn't the last one, but it was. This cover helped me fall asleep last night, and very well may be doing the same tonight. Thank you for helping soothe my shattered heart with this beautiful cover Colm. ❤🩹 *"To these memories I will hold, and with your blessing I will go"*
I thruhiked the Appalachian trail this year. This song was my anthem. This and Tolkiens The road goes ever onward. It always hit me deeply and brought tears
You've made me homesick for a place I've never been, and now I wish to revisit Lord of the Rings. And I read you're coming on over to my home. Welcome! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Please give Lady Liberty a high five for me if you come that way.
I feel this song speaks to anyone coming to the end of a key part in their life. For me it is finishing secondary school which became very apparent very quickly, i didn't realise how much i would miss all the little things. I might actually miss school 😂. I realise school is a part of life and despite the many challenges faced it is still important.
Absolutely beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes when I first heard the song many moons ago and again now. Safe travels and welcome to the states. Hello from Florida.
woah such an awesome song to cover! can't wait for this to go live :D On a sidenote, I just looked through the description of Riot Games' "The Call" and saw you noted as an additional singer? Is there a chance we could get you and your Fiance to cover that song?
I had to put my cat down last week, and I though I was OK, and then half way through this song started sobbing out of nowhere. I can't put to words how much I needed it, or how much I miss my little old lady. She left a hole that I don't think can ever be filled.
Your version of this awesome song brought tears to my eyes. Three years ago my dear dad ❤ passed away in his sleep. I had visited him the morning before, and always thank heaven I could give him that "last goodbye". Thanks Colm from my heart for this moving and intense version.
Welcome to the States, Colm. Although I am from there, I have listened to you from Spain and France since I found your work at the beginning of COVID. May your trip bring you even greater success and no disappointments.
Wow.. this just brought tears to my eyes. These last few days have been very stressfull, and im at a very clear crossroad in life, and choosing either path is scary, so this was a very fitting song.❤
Simply love both the harmony you created in this cover and the genres you represent in your songs. Wish you all the best in the states, and stay our beloved, wonderful voice bearing, handsome Irish fellow!
My story is a little bit late but I keep finding myself coming back to this song so I feel like it must be said. I live in New York for a long time and made a lot of good friends and had family up there but last year due to some unfortunate events I had to leave and move down to Florida. For those of you who have had to make a big move like this understand how hard it is to leave everything you once knew behind. And around the time I was packing up my things and moving this lovely man came out with this beautiful rendition, and as I pulled out of the driveway of the house I grew up in I sent this song to my friends (who are also big LOTR's fans) and it perfectly explained how I was feeling at the time and helped me on the long road down here. So thank you Colm McGuinness I guess somehow our big moves ended up happening close to each other, I hope yours went as well as mine, cheers mate and stay handsome.
Well done Colm! Liked this a lot. Good luck with finishing the old ark, and starting with a new one.... Good old Europe will still be around for some time, should you wish to turn back again Cheers from FRG.
Thank you for making a cover of this. My mom died in March and she loved this song. How you sang it was as if she was talking to me. So again I thank you. Keep making beautiful music that speaks to people in so many different ways.
Always a powerful piece to hear, well done. This one means a lot to me with my dad's passing, he wanted this song used as part of his funeral. Thanks for the memories

I saw the light fade from the sky
On the wind I heard a sigh
As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers
I will say this last goodbye
Night is now falling, so ends this day
The road is now calling and I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the Sea
Under cloud, beneath the stars
Over snow and winter's morn
I turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell
We came all this way, but now comes the day to bid you farewell
Many places I have been. Many sorrows I have seen.

*UPDATE* 11/1/24
What I feared happened... last night I got the call😭💔. ❤🩹
*"To these memories I will hold, and with your blessing I will go"*
I thruhiked the Appalachian trail this year. This song was my anthem. This and Tolkiens The road goes ever onward. It always hit me deeply and brought tears
Wow, one of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever heard. Easily one of your best songs yet, keep it up and welcome to the States!

😭 this followed by Technoblade's last video.
"Technoblade never dies"
You've made me homesick for a place I've never been, and now I wish to revisit Lord of the Rings.
And I read you're coming on over to my home.
Welcome! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Please give Lady Liberty a high five for me if you come that way.
It's hard to beat Billy Boyd, but by God do you come real close
fitting time to see this in my recommended. R.I.P Technoblade, you absolute legend
woah such an awesome song to cover! can't wait for this to go live :D
On a sidenote, I just looked through the description of Riot Games' "The Call" and saw you noted as an additional singer? Is there a chance we could get you and your Fiance to cover that song?
I had to put my cat down last week, and I though I was OK, and then half way through this song started sobbing out of nowhere. I can't put to words how much I needed it, or how much I miss my little old lady. She left a hole that I don't think can ever be filled.
May the hairs on your chin never fall out! Amazing work! An amazing take on the song.
Safe travels and clear skies to all who journey far from home.
Your version of this awesome song brought tears to my eyes.
Three years ago my dear dad ❤ passed away in his sleep. I had visited him the morning before, and always thank heaven I could give him that "last goodbye".
Thanks Colm from my heart for this moving and intense version.
This kinda hits hard after watching a favorite youtuber of mines final video...
Welcome to the States, Colm. Although I am from there, I have listened to you from Spain and France since I found your work at the beginning of COVID. May your trip bring you even greater success and no disappointments.
"Shine bright, Circus Man."
Wow.. this just brought tears to my eyes. These last few days have been very stressfull, and im at a very clear crossroad in life, and choosing either path is scary, so this was a very fitting song.❤

Fitting that this was released the same day technoblade died.
Technoblade never dies. o7
Simply love both the harmony you created in this cover and the genres you represent in your songs.
Wish you all the best in the states, and stay our beloved, wonderful voice bearing, handsome Irish fellow!
Oh my god, the day has come :O Can’t wait for it!
Reminds me of 'Bones in the Ocean'. Gives you that happy and sad feeling.
The man with the Voice !!!! Love it on my way home from work. 🤙🏼😁
Hats off to your version. Billy Boyd's version is still the one that'll be played at my funeral though.
Cant wait for this! Its my favorite song from The Hobbit
I'm so excited to hear your cover of this!
This is my designated funeral song.
Damn. Making a grown man cry here, this shit was beautiful. Reminded me of times and good memories I haven't thought about in years.
The Last Goodbye is one of my favorite songs of all time. Never did I think anything would be better than the original... you have proved me wrong.

This makes me cry… every time 🥺😢🥹💔❤️🔥♥️
Quality gentlemen. Truly, quality.
Raise a pint at the Green Dragon for me will you?
This was the song I held onto when I left my home four years ago....
The goosebumps are real with this song. Cannot stress enough how much I love this song.
I love it . Tears are in my eyes . It's great Colm . You had made it as if the Dubliners had done the song.

YES! YES! YES! SO MUCH YES!!!
Thanks for this. This song is great for today.
You have a helluva voice, dude. You managed to make this seem hopeful, rather than sad. Massive kudos.
I'd love for this to play at my funeral
Well done Colm! Liked this a lot.
Good luck with finishing the old ark, and starting with a new one....
Good old Europe will still be around for some time, should you wish to turn back again
Cheers from FRG.
Thought it was an ISWM cover but now I’m crying T^T it’s so beautiful
Brought a tear to my eyes---some sadness is part of everyone's life. It's a rough road sometimes-- but worth the journey.
Mate you nearly made me cry, that was beautiful. All the best for your moving.
The perfect song for Colm to do.
my oh my almighty I didn't expect the weight I felt from this song. It couldn't have been a better surprise. Truly, thank you for blessing us, Colm.
Thank you for making a cover of this. My mom died in March and she loved this song. How you sang it was as if she was talking to me. So again I thank you. Keep making beautiful music that speaks to people in so many different ways.
This is it! This is the one!!
Takes a lot to put billy boyd on his toes on this one, but I think this is amazing and comparable!
Always a powerful piece to hear, well done. This one means a lot to me with my dad's passing, he wanted this song used as part of his funeral. Thanks for the memories
