I'm so sorry to hear this. We had this played at my Aunty's funeral 3 months ago and as the vicar said it tells a story of hope and a journey to better things. Sending you comfort.
"Who is this Thorin Oakenshield?" "He... *He was my friend"* Anyone who is reading this I hope you are blessed. This song is very meaningful to me. Maybe it's time to turn at last to paths that lead home.
One day, we will all finally arrive at the home we have traveled, toiled and fought so long and hard for. May every step of your journey there be blessed richly.
My 11 year old son, Nick, died September 28, 2014. I took him to see this movie. This song was one of 2 songs that I listened to repeatedly as I mourned. Even now, it brings tears to my eyes as I remember my boy and the time we spent in Middle Earth.
@Doctor Tophat it's not. It's one *huge* book, divided into 6 parts, first 2 are The Fellowship, the 3rd and 4th the Two Towers, and the last 2 the Return of the King. It says so in the first few pages of the 50th anniversary edition of the book. I can see why you thought that, because I did too
"Fairwell, Master Burglar. Go home, to your books, and your armchair... plant your trees and watch them grow..." "If all loved home more than gold as much as you, the world would be a merrier place." - Thorin Oakenshield
I’ve watched all 6 movies with my father . It was awesome to share Middle Earth with him. One month ago he died, and this song expresses all the feelings I have after his passing.😥. Thanx dad, for this adventure we shared.
RIP Ian Holm ❤️ Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. Pippin: What? Gandalf? See what? Gandalf: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. Pippin: Well, that isn't so bad. Gandalf: No. No, it isn't.
Lotr is literally the only thing that can make me shed tears, and there are so many moments, and dialogues that just.. make everything in this life worth it. I can never be grateful enough to have been alive to see such magical creation. Lotr teached me what love truly is.
Love this song so much. Wish I could have played it at his funeral. My brother lost his battle with cancer, just 3 days before my birthday this year. Sure miss you brother
Thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien for giving us the best thing in the world to read ... Thanks to Peter Jackson for giving us the best experience in the history of movies ...
I think it's quite underappreciated how wildly talented the cast in the movies were. Billy Boyd was only given the lyrics and he wrote the song over them and might have wrote one of the best pieces of movie music on top of having one of the most memorable characters as well
Thank you Billy Boyd and Howard Shore for this song. It has given me solace over the last couple of weeks as my dad put up his last fight against leukemia. He lost his battle today. This song reminds of his journey through life. He is now off on a new adventure in the Undying Lands like Bilbo. Safe journeys to all who read this.
Rest in peace Ian Holm, having grown up with these films he was like a father to us. "the journey doesn't end here, death is just another path, one that we all must take"
Let's be realistic. When we all watched The fellowship of the Ring for the first time, we never realized that we were all going to become apart of this fellowship together. This fantasy Epic has taken our lives. Overhill isn't just a word, it's our never ending love for Tolkien's universe, "Is this the End? No... the journey doesn't end here."
It's not only the goodbye to middle Earth. For me, it's a farewell to much more than that. A farewell to an era, a moment in history, to childhood and purity. This song simbolizes the end of the one time experiences we have in out life...
Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, Boromir, Frodo, Sam , Pippin, and Merry, all the people I am growing up with will forever stay in the hearts of millions of people around the world. Thank you Peter Jackson and Mr. Tolkien.
I remember my childhood's dream to live there in Middle Earth. It's not just movie for me. It's what made my childhood happy. When I listen to the song of Billy Boid, I feel happiness and sorrow
Yup... the both trilogies have a soundtrack that elevates the movies to an epic level. Howard Shore soundtrack is just the cherry on the top of these movies.

To all the true Tolkien fans. 'Death is not the end, it is simply the start of the next great adventure'. The true gift that Tolkien left for us was not his movies or books, (although they were great) his true gift to us all was knowledge, the knowledge that nothing ever really ends. Throughout all his books and movies there is one thing that was focused on and that was that there is always another journey to take, life and death are just two doors that lead to different journeys. Tolkien taught us so many things, and with his knowledge we can pass it on to our children and they can pass it onto theirs, to me personally Tolkien was a light in a dark time for me, the fact that nothing really ends, the fact that we each have different journeys to take. Tolkien will always remain in our hearts, so he will never truly be forgotten. Remember: 'Death is not the end, it is simply the start of the next great adventure'.
No MCU or DCEU or any other franchise can out beat LOTR, each film is amazing and never gets old like literally even if one of them come on and there is 50 or 75 minutes left of it I will sit down and watch it
Le Coeur it’s two different genres and both are incredible. If you prefer sci fi you’re gonna enjoy Star Wars more and if you prefer fantasy you’re gonna prefer LOTR. Both incredible no need to compare them
And it makes me cry every time. Especially the clips from the Trilogy. My husband and I are going to watch the remastered extended edition LOTR trilogy in theater over this weekend. It’s going to be both very healing for me (it’s my comfort show) and painful with the recent passing of Bernard Hill.
I love how this isn't just a goodbye to the Hobbit trilogy. It's a solid goodbye to middle earth and all of the movies and I love that. And I love it even more that it's Billy doing this.
@Mariam Hayrapetyan Wow, very good observation, you're pretty sharp. Me? I'm probably the dullest nail in the box! I've watched all the movies a dozen times and didn't catch that. Ha, ya, well, I'm still trying to find out who Pippin' was in the movie!
@@HoleDiggingJanitor Literally speaking, yup, you're absolutely correct. A dull nail will less likely cause the wood to split, especially when pounding one in close to the edge. Funny how that works. But I know you meant that metaphorically. Thanks for the kind words Jordan, I appreciate it.
10 years old Man this still brings tears to my eyes…. Billy Boyd was the perfect choice to come back and deliver the final swan song to bookend this second trilogy It wasn’t just for the filmmakers but for the fans It’s tough sayin goodbye to middle earth on the big screen again but also knowing many of these beloved actors passed away They’ll always be in our hearts and forever cemented as these iconic characters
My heart sorrows for you as my eyes weep. My deepest and most sincere condolences for you loss. May your son dwell in the halls of Mandos and someday meet you there with joy.
This is for you dad. When you knew you were dying, you forbade us from playing Into The West and this one at your funeral as you thought it would ruin the films for us. Well dad, I still love them even when every time I hear them, I think of you. Hope I see you again and thanks for being there for us.
My mom died a few days ago. She loved this song, the movies and books. She introduced me to the Lotr fandom. I'll miss her forever and whenever I'll watch the movies, I'll think of her.
My mom and my grandparents both watched the beginning of The Lord Of The Rings that I have bought in 2005 ,but Grandparents died of old age 2007 and mom watch it the last 6 Movies of the HOBBITs . I been reading The HOBBIT books for years in my reading classes in Jr high school in 1978 before there were any movies and cartoons were made . I later on during the High schools years there were 3 Different types of The HOBBITs Animation cartoons . The first Animation cartoons was Ron Bass cartoon was great to the Movies of Jackson's HOBBITs but didn't have all the whole story books in the Cartoons until Jackson Made all 6 Movies of the Whole Book about The Hobbit . Star Wars made some movies almost all of the books . But Jackson is still the only One that has including Extra movie on DVDS of over 2 extra Hours of the Movies not being shown at the theater . I bought out original copys and including the rest of Extra movie , behind the Hollywood Scene . My mom said she love it because she had more understanding about Why and how books came to life better . But both my mom and my grandparents fell asleep during the last hour of the movie . My mom had died from Kidney infection and Alzheimer's in 2019 spring.
There’s a kind of melancholy optimism to this. You go through so much in your life, meet so many people you will inevitably say goodbye to. But with every new dawn comes a new adventure, and new people to share it with
68 year old watching this and blubbing like a baby !!!!! Myself and my wife visited NZ last year and toured Hobbiton - magical. The lyrics sum it all up.
End? no, the journey doesnt end here. Back in the days we only had one Trilogy to watch. And man we watched it. We watched it when we were sad, we watched it when we were happy. NOW we have 6 movies AND the books. Everytime when we put the discs in our Blu-Ray players or take our books the adventure goes on and on. There is no end for middle earth. For me it will live forever.
+UA THE END you actually have 2 movies not 6..there not trilogies.. lord of the rings is 1 story not 3 same with the hobbit..and yes they was good movies
I miss the days when this was on the silver screen. Days when the world made since. Days before the dark times befell the world. I’m so grateful that I was young in those times. And yet sad for those who are young in these times.
i cry every time. every freaking time. because for me, it wasn't just movies. the lotr trilogy was my childhood. it carries so many memories, so many emotions. and i will treasure it until my memory fades and my old mind forgets it all.
“How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand... there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep.”
I wasn't nearly as emotionally invested in the Hobbit trilogy as I was in LotR, but when this song played at the end, I bawled my eyes out in the theater.
@@Ofthewoods1973 So was I. No other series got me like these. Own all books, few replica weapons. I read the books alot. Own a few books that goes before the time of Hobbit and LOTR. Not sure any other series will be the same.
I admit, it’s a different kind of bond with The Hobbit than with Lord Of The Rings. But I love both trilogies nevertheless. But the characters in LOTR I will always have more love for.
When the Lord of the Rings came out, my dad and I went to go see it in theaters, rarely had I ever seen him so excited to see a movie. He used to read the books from the Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings trilogy to my sister and I as bedtime stories. I would go to sleep with dreams of heroism, adventure and a company of heroes and misfits that embarked on a near impossible task. When we would watch the Lord of the Rings movies on DVD, we would always start with the first, after it was over...my dad would say, "Well, onto the next one!" and I would put the next DVD in as quick as lightning. We would make a day of it as we passed a pipe and ale back and forth, like two hobbits enjoying their day. Though when the Hobbit came out, he was already gone, he passed away from cancer before he could see them. As I listen to this song, I feel a hole in my heart where his presence once was. But then I think back to Gandalf, that his journey never truly ended. Death is just one other path in life, one we all must take. He passed through the gray-rain curtain and all went to silver glass. He reach the white shores, and beyond. The green rolling hills and paradise beyond. I miss you old man.
What a beautiful eulogy for your dad's memory. Brought tears, but also a smile. You speak wise words my friend! Bless you - thank you for sharing this!
The hobbit movies less so but I will never understand the extreme hate they get. All 3 have their moments of suspense, character and emotion. They’re not SW or Terminator sequels bad in any way
@@joeyjerry1586 Haven't you heard? It's apparently illegal to like specific moments from movies, let alone not fully hate them as much as the rest of the viewers.
At the end of the third Hobbit I cried. Not because of fallen heroes, but that it was the end of the journey which began in 2001. Do you think there will be enough interest and passion in Hollywood to start doing Silmarilion movies? Practically it´s a neverending source of stories.
Me too bro, me 2, it was sad. Maybe things will change in the future I'd love to see the Silmarilion made into a movie. Things change, maybe his son will one day take up that challenge :)
Much as I love the Silmarilion it's not right for films. The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings are stories, the Silmarilion is a full mythcycle. It would be like trying to make a film series out of all the Greek myths at once, or the Bible or (appropriately enough) the Ring Cycle.
GriffinPilgrim Well, you know, they said Lord of the Rings is impossible to put into a movie format, and here we are... So I guess nothing is impossible, but the only fear I have that Hollywood would only try to make money, and that would be put before everything else, thus all the passion and magic would be gone, and we would have just another full-of-bombastic-effects mess. The only way of doing Silmarilion would be to let the passionate director (whoever he would be) do anything he needs to, with limitless budget, without interventions, with all the time he needs. But that´s too much requirements I guess. :)
”Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”

Remember:
'Death is not the end, it is simply the start of the next great adventure'.

My all time favorite quote from the books and movies
At the end of the third Hobbit I cried. Not because of fallen heroes, but that it was the end of the journey which began in 2001. Do you think there will be enough interest and passion in Hollywood to start doing Silmarilion movies? Practically it´s a neverending source of stories.
*****
Interesting and sad at the same time. Thank you for the answer.
Me too bro, me 2, it was sad. Maybe things will change in the future I'd love to see the Silmarilion made into a movie. Things change, maybe his son will one day take up that challenge :)
I was sitting in the theater surrounded by my brothers and random people trying not to cry and breath to hard.
GriffinPilgrim
Well, you know, they said Lord of the Rings is impossible to put into a movie format, and here we are... :)

@Gage Garner OH MY GODS
snifffffffffffffffffffffff hack cough sputter is that a pun i smell?
@Gage Garner IIRC the Party Tree was cut down by Sharky's thugs-- so one of Sam's Mallorns gets to bear some strange fruit.
Yes, passers by, I know you are confused if you haven't read the books.
@Gage Garner wth. Didnt He and merry live until 120-ish years old and die. Then when aragorn die both were entombed next to him

My best friend passed away 2 days ago, 22 years old of a brain tumor... :(
We grew up watching Peter Jacksons movies and reading the books, we truly loved Middle-Earth and I truly loved him.
This song is so beautiful and reminds me of him...
Thank you for all memoires my friend and Middle-Earth.
RIP :(
I am sorry. May your best friend rest in peace.

Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
Pippin: What? Gandalf? See what?
Gandalf: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn't so bad.
Gandalf: No. No, it isn't.
Hopefully your friend is in a place like that, I'm sorry to hear that
Me and my friends actually had that text as a obituary in the local newspaper. A beautiful quote from Tolkien. Lets hope Gandalf was right, so I can meet my friend again and that the place is that beautiful and peaceful. Thank you.
Interesting, and yes, a very beautiful one, majestic even
My son and I were (are) LOTR and Hobbit fans...books, music and movies. He died last year, at 22. We played "Into the West" at his calling hours and "The Last Goodbye" at the funeral among other songs. Those two songs will always be special to me
I'm really sorry for your loss, as Theoden once said, no parent should bury their child
Sorry for ur loss. I wish well for your son and hopes he becomes content 😌
Donna Piaggi I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you could both enjoy the amazing world of middle earth together
My sincere condolences on the loss of your son. It is never easy to lose your child before their time. Those were very good choices to be played for him. He was probably there singing along as he gave his family one last hug goodbye before going Home.
This is the saddest thing I have ever read. Really sorry for your lost!
Today, 01/16/2020, Christopher Tolkien, J. R. R. Tolkien's son, has passed away.
He studied and worked on his father's books his whole life, and we will be forever grateful for this.
R.I.P. Christopher Tolkien

Fox Shadow for fleshing out and completing The Children of Hurin in the same voice as his father, he most certainly earned his place there.
Damn, 1-16 is my birthday. Ironic. RIP Christopher.
2020 just can’t get worse.. it just can’t!
Jay Khan please, don't say it loud😫😫
It's insane that despite not being close to anyone, I can feel the bittersweet feeling of having made friends and living a life with them and having to say goodbye.
There are no words in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of Men to describe how much I adore The Lord of the Rings.
thinking the same too now that I rewatch the six movies, still in love in each characters specially Legolas 💙
