"To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace." Luke 1:79 Such a masterpiece fight. Jack REVERSED the traditional way a ninja fights. Using the light to kill in sunlight is frighteningly deadly.

In a way this makes sense. Think about it, you're in a dark shed looking for something and when you step out you're temporarily blinded by the light as your eyes adjust (same thing when moving from somewhere bright to somewhere dark). Jack isn't really invisible, he's just not giving the Shinobi a chance to adjust.

I cannot IMAGINE how the team went about animating this fight, and how hard it must’ve been to make sensible depth perception for the audience to follow while also keeping things near incapable of following. I love this show
Remember folks: in the original japan, a samurai had to learn how to wield the sword, the bushido, the required etiquettes, and horse riding in battle. A ninja had to learn hypnosis, animal taming, the usage of every weapon, creativity, battle strategy, climbing up anywhere, hiding on land, in water, how to be silent, chemistry, potion making, explosives, AND EVERYTHING WHAT A SAMURAI HAS TO KNOW. And so much more. So, yeah. Jack knowing how to defeat a ninja in his own way is damn terrifying just because of the training what he had to go through.
This scene deserves so much praise, just for the concept itself. Yes, the technicalities are the finer things one can critic, but this is just great; doing a scene with just Black & White.
Could be considered a children's show for the first 4 seasons, but it was a wonderful show that did not talk down to children and was able to introduce very complex concepts well.
Contrary to popular belief, I think Jack is doing more than just reflecting sunlight off of him to hide from the shinobi. Our eyes adapt in response to the amount of light we perceive to help us see; they contract when there's a lot of light around us and dilate when there's little. This trait has its drawbacks though. If we're in a lit environment, dark creatures and objects cast in the dark will be very hard to see. By contrast, bright objects and creatures are harder to see if they're cast in light and we're in the dark. In other words, the relative contrast between Jack's bright clothing and the shinobi's dark clothing plus the way our eyes work is what makes this kind of battle possible.
Everyone rightly talks about how good at stealth Jack is but no one mentions how good at sword fighting the ninja is it was able to hold jack back multiple times to get away from him
Watching that sunset caused so much anxiety and suspense. No other scene will match. Also, I'm a bit saddened we never saw Jack with his robe like that again
If this was an original concept and not something inspired by another body of work… then this is truly legendary and makes this series that much more of a gem 💎
What I love is that Jack's strategy makes perfect sense. The shinobi hides in the darkness, but steps into the light to attack, but how can he sneak up on a target that he cant see in the opposing element. The same is true for Jack, of course, but it bought him some time that he would have spent completely visible amd vulnerable to the shinobi.
Sometimes Aesthetic is all you need the art style never really changed they just changed the aesthetic and lighting and it made one of the most innovative fight scenes ever testament to how great this show once was
I love this scene so much because it's not a Samurai Vs Ninja fight, FunFact a samurai can also be a Ninja if they had to. This shows that being a Ninja isn't a profession, it's a skill that anyone can learn and hence be a Ninja. Jack fights him using the same style cuz if he fought him like a samurai meaning out in the open, he would be in serious trouble.
This is the most unique fight I've ever seen in animation and in media in general. Massive props to the storyboard artists, animators and choreographer specialists that helped put together the most breath taking fight I've ever seen in my childhood and still remains so in my adult years.

By contrast, bright objects and creatures are harder to see if they're cast in light and we're in the dark.
In other words, the relative contrast between Jack's bright clothing and the shinobi's dark clothing plus the way our eyes work is what makes this kind of battle possible.
Still one of the most beautiful fights in Samurai Jack history.
Everyone rightly talks about how good at stealth Jack is but no one mentions how good at sword fighting the ninja is it was able to hold jack back multiple times to get away from him
The Shinobi is without a doubt one of the coolest opponent Jack has ever faced
I have to hand it to the animators this was way ahead of its time.
Watching that sunset caused so much anxiety and suspense. No other scene will match.
Also, I'm a bit saddened we never saw Jack with his robe like that again
If this was an original concept and not something inspired by another body of work… then this is truly legendary and makes this series that much more of a gem 💎
One of the most creative and amazing episodes of a cartoon.
Most beautifully animated fight scene to this day
In which part is this presentation
This scene actually won an Academy Award for best animation editing by one of the scene's animators, if I remember the name of the award correctly.
Two Shinobi ninjutsus being used here. The art of hiding in the shadows and the art of hiding in plain sight.
Assassins vs Ninja
@@nooneshome8746 aren't ninjas another way to say assasin?
@@Nombrenooriginal ninja main job is a spy they don't really kill. While assassin is self explanatory.
I love how their swords clashing illuminates the ninja for just a split second.
3:21 Times running out. And Jack leaps up to Heavens of Light waiting for the right moment...
This is the most unique fight I've ever seen in animation and in media in general. Massive props to the storyboard artists, animators and choreographer specialists that helped put together the most breath taking fight I've ever seen in my childhood and still remains so in my adult years.
This was the coolest fight I ever witnessed as a kid, and it still is today.
