im glad his backstory helped ashi learn more about him some felt she should of met more friends but in my opinion i feel she met enough besides if she kept meeting people it would take away the fun in guessing who would help jack in the finale atleast in my opinion i often compare it to avatar's invasion we didn't know who would join them but couldn't wait to find out i was surprised seeing the swamp waterbenders and the two earthbenders toph beat
2:38 that mask line makes a lot of sense, considering in Season 5 Jack wore a mask and armor while not seeing the inner torment and anger he had harbored over 50 years

Jack has flowery words for each time he humiliated Sam-oo-rai and tore off this clothes. But the moment Jack broke his muscle suit, he was like "I have nothing to say, I legitimately was not expecting that".
I love how this represents in the lore of the show. That the only living samurai that Jack has met is nothing but a blowhard who is showboating around, gives the look inside that jack is truly the only samurai left.
Well that’s cause in the future the samurai lifestyle is kind of bastardized into one about strength and glory, not honor and duty. Plus with word of Jack spreading around people were into the idea more of this badass symbol of hope and rebellion further muddying the idea for them. So Da Samurai thought all he had to do was look the part of this badass samurai brother and he’d be like Da King in his little pond.
The key here was that Jack gave him the chance to see if he deserved the title samurai. Then when he realized he was a fake he didn't show him dishonor but instead a chance to learn to become a samurai.

Jack absolutely could have. There was no way Da Sam-ooh-rai could have stopped him. Not even because he lacks skill, he has some skill as the episode demonstrates, but look at what happened with the Bounty Hunters, they were all competent and talented warriors and Jack defeated all of them together in seconds. This whole event is Jack playing around, trying to see if there's any potential worth nurturing here.

Don't think Jack is doing it on purpose, but yeah, I am reminded of how Miyamoto Musashi deliberately showed up late to a duel to piss off one of his opponents. Also of how Jetstream Sam in the Metal Gear Rising DLC has a dedicated taunt button when you play as him. The advantage gained by getting into your opponent's head and throwing them off their game is real.

I have to give him credit, the false samurai does display at least SOME level of skill. Granted, he's no true warrior, and absolutely NOWHERE near Jack's level, but he still has experience with certain tactics that can be noticed if you pay close enough attention, like using the bamboo stick to propel himself upwards for a faster, stronger downward strike.

@@daboi6509 Agreed. More specifically, I would also say that I think with the third idiom he is suggesting that da Samurai is hiding under the mask of bravado and fake skill. Until he is willing to confront himself and his own shortcomings, he will neither grow as a person or a martial artist. With the fourth idiom he is saying that da Samurai's bluster comes from a place of low self-esteem and/or self-loathing. He is afraid to show his true self (the pearl, though he does not think of it as one), so he builds up a defensive shell around himself, which is a very common defense mechanism for people with low self-esteem. A lot of loud, arrogant, self-aggrandizing people are actually very insecure about themselves. But Jack is saying that da Samurai should learn to see himself as something valuable, a pearl, rather than hide behind walls and masks.
I think we can all learn this from Samurai Jack as we get older and become more maturer and wiser as we go through experiences both good and bad. If we can all learnt overcome our own struggles in life wisely and more maturely and learned to be like Samurai Jack, then we can overcome anything and become better people!!! That’s how people grow and mature is going through very painful and heartbreaking experiences in our lives.
reminds me when some noob with 800 hours said Revenant is useless in Warframe. so i challenged him to an index long run. After 10 rounds, he had close to 30 deaths and 10 kills. i had 0 deaths and 215 kills.
2:14 the sheer lack of effort on Jack's part in this scene really tells all we need to know about the outcome of this battle, let alone what came before it, lol.
One of my favorites. You can tell, especially when he catapults himself in the air, he isn't all bark. But he let what bite he did have go completely to his head.
It would be like an ongoing ‘rivalry’ of the SaMuRai trying to best Jack but instead of being comedic relief he would actually be shown to improve and enhance his skills as a fighter.
I love the difference between Jack and Sam-moo-rah. You can tell which one is the real samurai just by how they act and treat their respective weapons. Jack is stern and serious, treating his sword with respect while Sam-moo-rah just flailing his katana around like it's a toy, dude even tossed his weapon into the dirt like it's nothing.
I love how the animation styles are different. It seems Samooray's frame jump. Showing he moves hastily and without much control. but Jack's animation is smooth and every bit of his clothing moves too.
0:18- I love how Da Sa-Moo-Ray’s eyes widen here. He’s realizing exactly who he just challenged, and is probably scared of what Jack may do if he lives up to the legend. Then once Jack brings out the bamboo he gets his confidence back, only to realize that Jack is going easy on him.

Are we not gonna discuss the fact that Da Samurai had some actual skill for like half the stuff he did!? I mean come on we have to be honest he had some potential to be really good, but the only thing holding him back was his lack of self restraint and overconfidence. Because not only did he defeat an entire group of people with his own skill with what seems to have been a fighting style made by himself with, but he also committed feats of incredible strength and speed not only with his own body but with the bamboo stick he was given. The man defeated a 2v1 fight against robots, but he used his fighting style to distract an opponent while using the surrounding to his advantage, punched a robot probably a few feat away with one hand, has the strength and precision to cut the top off of a helmet with one swing, jumped multiple feet into the air with a pole vault without any run away, and all of that while having the physique of a middle aged man. I'm sorry but the man is most definitely a prodigy and if he were to undergo immense mental and physical training he would undoubtable be one of the strongest fighters out there. I mean he witnessed the entire fight with Jack and the robot assassins which were meant to keep up with Jack, yet Da Samurai with his own 2 eyes was able to not only keep up with Jacks moves but see everything perfectly while most people cant even see Jack move a muscle in some fights all while distracting with his drink being spat out. So either that means da Samurai has the perception of a 1st class fighter or Jack was holding back that entire fight enough to be seen by regular people even thought that would have been dangerous seeming as he doesn't underestimate anyone of Aku's assassins enough to hold back.
He's essentially a genius and natural in some aspects but his own personality and mentality hold him back . . I'd have liked to see more of him really. It was similar to Jack having a less cool and skilled but decently funny and charismatic afro samurai. .. the potential was definitely there too
Ironically, the fact he was a natural is probably why he stagnated. He got good really quickly, got over confident and egotistical and never grew from that point assuming he was the best.
He does have skill yes. Hes clearly beyond the average person, and has learned and trained a lot. But he doesnt match up to Jack even a bit. Not to mention, what he lacks is diciplin and insight. Not combat skill.
0:25 - Jack puts his sword away. Then when we next see him he is holding his sword. And then a few seconds later he is holding the stick. Some kind of Samurai magic there!
If he were a true samurai with a tough personality, I'd imagine he'd be like, "Bamboo, huh? I respect that." Puts his own sword away, picks up the bamboo and says, "Okay, Jack. Show me what ya got!"
That's kind of the point. Da Sam-moo-rai was too arrogant to face Jack with simple bamboo sticks, and that arrogance was his downfall in the end, as well as fighting with blind aggression. If he'd been humble enough to accept the bamboo stick, Jack probably wouldn't have beaten the shit out of him. But then, if he'd had that level of humility in the first place, he wouldn't have been such an ass to Jack in the bar, which is what caused the whole duel in the first place: He was a cocky douche, and Jack suggested they "take this outside".

This guy was such an entertaining character. I was really disappointed when they didn’t bring him back in the final season as a truly accomplished samurai like Jack. I wanted to see him show up to help Jack with his little walking boombox leading the way. The bad guys would stop fighting Jack, distracted by the music and start mocking the Sam-Moo-Rhai’s taste in music and funky fresh threads. Then he’d bust out his signature moves on them, cutting them into ribbons, and use the wiper blades on his shades to get all the oil/blood off. I know he shows up in the recent video game but I’m not sure how big a role he plays.
Basically he’s person that talks the talk but can’t walk the walk. I think after his experience with Jack, he eventually realized he wasn’t built to be like Jack and decides to become a shop keeper instead.
Even if he was a douchebag, You have to admit, with some of those movements, Da Sa-moo-rah did have some fighting potential. But his ego killed it for him.
The only weakness I saw were his aggression which lashed blindly, his ego which blinded him, and the overall inefficency of his moves (skilled though he is, he wastes far too much energy per swing and practically telegraphs his attacks)
Anyone else notice around 1:03 when the samoorai is told he must "earn" Jack's blade, that same pose is later used in Jack's angry side when he is told he must earn the blade.
ikr there's a few easter eggs about ashi such as masks and defeating yourself she wore a mask to hide her true self and once that mask came off and learned the truth she became the hope jack needed
I honestly believe that Jack could have beaten the Sam-moo-rai with the bamboo stick even if the Sam-moo-rai has his sword. Like Jack would’ve shattered it.
Miyamoto Musashi engaged in several duels to the death armed only with a stick, and won. I don't recall too many details, but I _believe_ all those duels were against opponents armed with actual swords.
Well bamboo is extremely strong, and was used as mobile cover with Japanese Arquabis troops. That deflected early musket rounds. So yeah, bamboo stronk
I love how Da Samurai’s music has a Funkedelic sound. I think even in the earlier scene one of the tracks playing sounded like the bass to “Flashlight”😂
Yeah he is arrogant and needed life lessons but I don't think people give Da Samurai enough credit in this episode: - 1:07 despite wanting to beat Jack so badly he never attacks Jack with his real sword while Jack isn't using his own sword - Da Samurai saw first hand in the bar what Jack could do and still challenged him - he's completely upfront about his challenge and waits for Jack to be ready--even following Jack's conditions--before starting the fight Da Samurai is a good rounded antagonist.

I have to give him credit, the false samurai does display at least SOME level of skill. Granted, he's no true warrior, and absolutely NOWHERE near Jack's level, but he still has experience with certain tactics that can be noticed if you pay close enough attention, like using the bamboo stick to propel himself upwards for a faster, stronger downward strike.

@@daboi6509 Agreed. More specifically, I would also say that I think with the third idiom he is suggesting that da Samurai is hiding under the mask of bravado and fake skill. Until he is willing to confront himself and his own shortcomings, he will neither grow as a person or a martial artist. With the fourth idiom he is saying that da Samurai's bluster comes from a place of low self-esteem and/or self-loathing. He is afraid to show his true self (the pearl, though he does not think of it as one), so he builds up a defensive shell around himself, which is a very common defense mechanism for people with low self-esteem. A lot of loud, arrogant, self-aggrandizing people are actually very insecure about themselves. But Jack is saying that da Samurai should learn to see himself as something valuable, a pearl, rather than hide behind walls and masks.
I think we can all learn this from Samurai Jack as we get older and become more maturer and wiser as we go through experiences both good and bad. If we can all learnt overcome our own struggles in life wisely and more maturely and learned to be like Samurai Jack, then we can overcome anything and become better people!!! That’s how people grow and mature is going through very painful and heartbreaking experiences in our lives.

It would be like an ongoing ‘rivalry’ of the SaMuRai trying to best Jack but instead of being comedic relief he would actually be shown to improve and enhance his skills as a fighter.
I love the difference between Jack and Sam-moo-rah. You can tell which one is the real samurai just by how they act and treat their respective weapons. Jack is stern and serious, treating his sword with respect while Sam-moo-rah just flailing his katana around like it's a toy, dude even tossed his weapon into the dirt like it's nothing.
The rain falling on the bamboo stick (0:31) is why I love this cartoon

Da' Samurai: fights for the recognition
Samurai Jack: fights only when necessary to get back to the past
I love how Jack actually took the time here to mentor him on being a samurai trly meant. Cause he was there claiming to be one at the presence of a real samurai.
Are we not gonna discuss the fact that Da Samurai had some actual skill for like half the stuff he did!? I mean come on we have to be honest he had some potential to be really good, but the only thing holding him back was his lack of self restraint and overconfidence. Because not only did he defeat an entire group of people with his own skill with what seems to have been a fighting style made by himself with, but he also committed feats of incredible strength and speed not only with his own body but with the bamboo stick he was given. The man defeated a 2v1 fight against robots, but he used his fighting style to distract an opponent while using the surrounding to his advantage, punched a robot probably a few feat away with one hand, has the strength and precision to cut the top off of a helmet with one swing, jumped multiple feet into the air with a pole vault without any run away, and all of that while having the physique of a middle aged man. I'm sorry but the man is most definitely a prodigy and if he were to undergo immense mental and physical training he would undoubtable be one of the strongest fighters out there. I mean he witnessed the entire fight with Jack and the robot assassins which were meant to keep up with Jack, yet Da Samurai with his own 2 eyes was able to not only keep up with Jacks moves but see everything perfectly while most people cant even see Jack move a muscle in some fights all while distracting with his drink being spat out. So either that means da Samurai has the perception of a 1st class fighter or Jack was holding back that entire fight enough to be seen by regular people even thought that would have been dangerous seeming as he doesn't underestimate anyone of Aku's assassins enough to hold back.
Which is why Jack was trying to teach him. He could had ended it in seconds with his sword.
He's essentially a genius and natural in some aspects but his own personality and mentality hold him back . . I'd have liked to see more of him really. It was similar to Jack having a less cool and skilled but decently funny and charismatic afro samurai. .. the potential was definitely there too

Ironically, the fact he was a natural is probably why he stagnated. He got good really quickly, got over confident and egotistical and never grew from that point assuming he was the best.
He does have skill yes.
Hes clearly beyond the average person, and has learned and trained a lot.
But he doesnt match up to Jack even a bit.
Not to mention, what he lacks is diciplin and insight. Not combat skill.

it's just what I see in my head. It's kinda like a what if scenario. It'd actually be cooler if that happened like that.
That's kind of the point. Da Sam-moo-rai was too arrogant to face Jack with simple bamboo sticks, and that arrogance was his downfall in the end, as well as fighting with blind aggression. If he'd been humble enough to accept the bamboo stick, Jack probably wouldn't have beaten the shit out of him. But then, if he'd had that level of humility in the first place, he wouldn't have been such an ass to Jack in the bar, which is what caused the whole duel in the first place: He was a cocky douche, and Jack suggested they "take this outside".

This guy was such an entertaining character. I was really disappointed when they didn’t bring him back in the final season as a truly accomplished samurai like Jack.
I wanted to see him show up to help Jack with his little walking boombox leading the way. The bad guys would stop fighting Jack, distracted by the music and start mocking the Sam-Moo-Rhai’s taste in music and funky fresh threads. Then he’d bust out his signature moves on them, cutting them into ribbons, and use the wiper blades on his shades to get all the oil/blood off.
I know he shows up in the recent video game but I’m not sure how big a role he plays.

Even if he was a douchebag, You have to admit, with some of those movements, Da Sa-moo-rah did have some fighting potential. But his ego killed it for him.
The only weakness I saw were his aggression which lashed blindly, his ego which blinded him, and the overall inefficency of his moves (skilled though he is, he wastes far too much energy per swing and practically telegraphs his attacks)

Well bamboo is extremely strong, and was used as mobile cover with Japanese Arquabis troops. That deflected early musket rounds. So yeah, bamboo stronk

I love how Da Samurai’s music has a Funkedelic sound. I think even in the earlier scene one of the tracks playing sounded like the bass to “Flashlight”😂

Yeah he is arrogant and needed life lessons but I don't think people give Da Samurai enough credit in this episode:
- 1:07 despite wanting to beat Jack so badly he never attacks Jack with his real sword while Jack isn't using his own sword
- Da Samurai saw first hand in the bar what Jack could do and still challenged him
- he's completely upfront about his challenge and waits for Jack to be ready--even following Jack's conditions--before starting the fight
Da Samurai is a good rounded antagonist.
