Absolutely keep it going! I think I've told you before that your tank is very similar to mine...even down to fish selection. I've had mine going for close to 13 years now, and the cool thing about an old tank is how natural it looks after years of plant maturation, and migration (yes, some of my stem plants occasionally break off and end up stuck in the moss on the other side of the tank. If it looks good I leave. If not I take it out.
Hi George. I hope you are well. I am glad you still have that Awesome looking Aquascaped Aquarium, the Aquascape is absolutely beautiful and it is fantastic to see that it has not changed since it matured into the nicest Aquascape you have ever done. Thank you for sharing. You did a wonderful job of cleaning that marvelous Aquarium. Take care Sir. Have a great week.
You are a big inspiration for me to start a nano 5 gallon aquascape! Thank you for taking the time and effort to film, edit and upload your content to youtube! We all really appreciate it. It was also extremely satisfying to watch you clean the glasswear as well!
What I love about your videos as compared to others is that you do not hesitate from showing real world problems like Algae, nutrition deficiency, melting etc and how to deal with them. Some channels just show tip top aquariums as if they do not face any problems at all! Also you do not always propose high end systems. A lot of us cannot afford to have high end systems and it doesn't stop us from persuing this hobby. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yes, keep it running please. I love long term aquascaping! Your channel is the best one I've discovered this year. Great content, great guy! Thanks George! :)
Holes in the leaves can be a sign of the plants not getting enough potassium, beautiful fish tank and it’s so relaxing watching it undergo the maintenance transformation :)
I’ve said it before but those Kessil lights really do differentiate from all others simply by means of that shimmer effect. And it looks so very nice against a polished aquascape! My first tank is now seven weeks and recently cycled and stocked. Going great largely because of your videos and others like you (mostly Europe too...lol. Need more here in the states) so thank you again George!
Hi George, Snails do not have any mouth parts hard or strong enough to eat healthy plants.....same goes for the fish that you have. Holes in plants is a sign of a nutrient deficiency, mainly Manganese. The lack of this element causes the plant to prioritize even distribution of nutrients leading to sacrificing patches, which become necrotic. This is where people see snails and such eating the now easily digested morsel and incorrectly ascertain the wrong culprit.
I have nuisance bladder snails that do eat my healthy plants... I watch them do it... I've watched many vids and read articles on this, I've only heard they will eat your plants, healthy or no. What is the truth? Have you, or George, have any new ideas?
@@cd1673 Well, all i can say is, looks can be deceiving ! i cultivate several kinds of Physella acuta in my planted aquariums and none of them eat ANY of my healthy plants. Let me reiterate, If they can eat a plant...it's not healthy. Plants are too complex to go into detail here. In stead of people calling them "pest snails" they should really be calling them "harbinger snails"... These snails are great "signalers" for poor water conditions AND plant deficiencies. if you see a snail eating a hole in a "healthy" plant, you should look up that plants culture, for you are surely missing something. Since i have read articles on this species dating back to the 1800's, i would be interested in the literature you are referencing.
I fully agree. Parts of plants which die off are easy to eat for snails and shrimps. I have cherry shrimp in my tank and they eat old bucephalandra leaves leaving holes in it. Perhaps magnesium or other microelement.
It's grown in so beautifully, the crypts are amazing. Of course you should keep it running. Why would you not, it's a stunning tank and you, yourself said, it's the one constant you look forward to after all your travels.
I love these longer style video's. They are more of a chill vibe and are packet with helpful information and time to really view the scape. I agree with you that this is probably one of the best scapes you've done - the only thing I might change is getting a backgroud light \ a frosted film, and also the colors seem a tiny bit "washed out", maybe because of these lights. anyways definitely keep it as it is for at least a couple more months. (I'm going to try something similar on my new 60p ada tank :D)
I love that you provide us with "on a small budget" aquascape videos. As someone who has never had much money to spare, this helps me a lot. Seems as if I'm continually trying to figure out "how can I do 'that" with what money I have available. So Thank You very much, and I wish you a very Happy New Year :) .... by the way, that is one beautifully aquascaped tank, I can understand why it's your favorite.
Hi George, love this tank ,can’t believe it’s a year old,you have to keep this one running. As others have said already, your videos are inspirational, set ups, maintenance and visits to shops and shows. I love the George Farmer look.Been doing mine for 3 years ,but not really doing it well, after following you for some time now, I’m rescaping my 300 litre and my 30cm cube to a style like yours, and hopefully keeping them both maintained correctly. You’ve showed us how to do it all and we have learned a lot from you, so thank you for that.Good luck with everything you do next year and looking forward to following it all. Happy new year and keep on scaping
George my friend, you are a gem of the hobby! I really love that you showed the full regime, from "oh man, we need to clean this" to the stunning result of some good old fashioned maintenance. Stay awesome sir!
Beautiful job George. Such an inspiration watching you aquascape. I love my Harlequin Rasbora’s. They swim against the current of the outflow pipe and ride the current. So relaxing watching them. Cheers mate.
George Farmer you’re welcome, I came across your budget tank videos last year, the following week I bought my first tank, I now have 4 😂 thanks for introducing me to the hobby
Interesting video, thanks for sharing. Great to see a dirty tank before maintenance, the most videos on UA-cam showing high polished tanks without any dirt. I think the holes are from the shrimps, I had that experience.
Hi George looks stunning I’ve got five tanks that I maintain every week 50% water changes, daily fertiliser and no algae issues at all. All part of the fun keeping aquariums.
Hi George you really inspire me loved your workshop at Aquarium gardens the other week My set up been running just over the month been doing the water changes and dosing with the aquascaper complete and co2 but I do have some algea so been catchi g up this morning on your videos on riding the tank of it I just like to thank you for these videos they really help Iain Ely Cambridgeshire
This "classic George Farmer" content is why I love this channel. Please dont take this as a jab, but you present the maintenance process (as I watch) as an; "If I can do this ... So can you". I think that (this) style of education is brilliant! Honestly, even though I'm still very new to the aquascaping lifestyle, your content reassures me that I can (and will) do this. How cool it is that you can get valuable knowledge, motivation, inspiration AND be rewarded with a super chill cinematic "classic George Farmer" aquascape all in one video! Cheers to you George! Question... epiphyte/Rhizome plants with no substrate present in the system? 👍👎 Thanks for the content!
Not at all. One of my college professors called me that. The nickname takes me back and reminds me of a good time in my life. Not that now is bad, but university was a special time. Cheers.
It's a fantastic looking tank George ! Some people say perfection can never be reached. Bro your dam close. All the best for 2019 bro and loads of success heading your way I'm sure.
Loved the video George. I am ordering me the glass pipe set and hose cleaners now. They look so clean in the aquarium. I was so surprised when I opened a gift from my wife for Christmas. It was one of your shirts. I had just showed it to her once while watching one of your videos months ago. Love it! 😁
Cheers George, great tank the the fact that it is easy to maintain does it for me. Having a pretty hectic work schedule means that a tank should allow for more time to be enjoyed and less to be maintained.
George, still love this tank! It gave me the insparation for my new tank. Keep up the great videos👍. And i’m looking forward to all your new projects. Greetz from Holland.
The tank looks amazing George. It’s definitely one of my favorite tanks that you’ve created and I hope you decide to keep it around. It’s a great tank to show how with maintenance and upkeep you can keep a scape looking great for years. Happy holidays
You did inspire me to try some aquascape. As a matter of fact I have one set up for 2 months now. Sort of like your style, triangular style with manzanita wood, seiryu stone, tropica soil, and cosmetic sand
It's my second favourite of yours, first is the one at EA office, low tech island scape. I have tried to recreate or base my scapes on yours, you provide great inspiration.
I agree with others & experienced it myself, your plants are lacking in a bit of potassium. Just for your info, Red Cherry Shrimps are quite sensitive to large water changes. Wishing your family & you a very Happy New Year! 🎊🎆🎉
Hi George, keep the tank going. I maintain the 900 evolution aqua every 2 weeks. The pearl gouramis are eating your plants, mine do the same holes. Great tank . Cheers
My guess the holes in the plant leaves are due to potassium deficiency. I had this issue in the past despite dosing fertilizer regularly. Once I started using flourish potassium weekly, the issue resolved. Really outstanding aquascape George
Hi George, please keep this system going! Also could you share your fertilising regime and whether you add root tabs? How long will your soil be able to last?
Great video George. The tank looks awesome after a year! I really like lily glass pipes, but gets dirty so fast :D Anyway, I will continue to use them(It's not so hard to clean it). Aquariums look much better with glass pipes than plastic ones.
The holes in the leaves could be caused by Potassium deficiency . I know that seems unlikely with daily dosing but the balance might be a bit off for this particular aquarium . Each one is unique as are it's requirements . Another possible cause could be the fact that aquatic plants can pull/recycle nutrients from old leaves to help fuel the development of new ones. I agree with keeping it ; looks great .
Keep it going! Maybe do a fresh up With some new plants.. Improving a strong scape looks like a challenge to me! Thanks for the tips and make 2019 a strong scape year!
Merry Christmas George! This tank is amazing, definitely out of contest. I'll love to see some shots from the side, and watch the whole perspective of this scape, and maybe in the future video from the inside of the tanks, with a gopro or something, I don't think I've seen that before. 👍👍👍
Love that scape. If you think you've had a problem with holes in plants you should have seen mine. Looked like someone had been practising with a machine gun on my swords.
George, love this tank! I read your article in the Aquarium Hobby magazine about this tank and keeping a long-term scape, a topic rarely discussed but something I enjoy greatly in my home tanks. For the same reasons you mentioned, I've derived such pleasure from a low maintenance tank that you can enjoy watching mature over the long term. I saw that you use an in-line diffuser. I've never used one before but wanted to see if you have a recommended brand or type. I run an eheim pro 4 350.
I like the brown glass pipes, I clean mine every six months, when I clear the external filter. For a home low maintenance your scape is perfect. 1 year ago just before you do your aquascape I did almost the same scpa with cryps, anubias, bucephalandras, marsilea for the frond and some eleoharis mini here and there. I have some problems with this type of slow growing aquarium: 1. The growth of algae is strong 2. No matter how perfect are the parameters soon or later black beard algae stasts to appear on the anubias or the ferns. 3. To see the perfect aquarium picture you have to wait :D. 4. You have to count your maximim number of fish, because too much fish will make problems in slow growing set up. But after all if you do your work on the aquarium, it will pay off!!! Great Aquarium hope to see it 1 more year, please don't shut it down.
I have a very similar plant selection to you (including a lotus) and the only similar live stock I have to you is snails. So I would put my money on those being the cause of the holes. Great videos 👌
My favourite home scape is one year old today (at time of filming). Should I keep it going for another year?
Let me know!
Keep on scaping 💚
Of course. Why even think about tearing it down?
Absolutely keep it going! I think I've told you before that your tank is very similar to mine...even down to fish selection. I've had mine going for close to 13 years now, and the cool thing about an old tank is how natural it looks after years of plant maturation, and migration (yes, some of my stem plants occasionally break off and end up stuck in the moss on the other side of the tank. If it looks good I leave. If not I take it out.
It's hard to find videos that show the life of a long term scape, so I'd say keep it for another year!
Keep it going...it's gorgeous! I've mine running just for 2 years and I don't intend to rescape it!
Yes, yes, most definitely keep it going....12 months ago this scape is got me back into the hobby.
Hi George.

Oh snails can do eat up your plants , actually they can consume an entire plant just within days
Great video. Explaining what you are doing and your reasoning make this a great video for someone just getting into the hobby. Thanks mate!
I could sit and look at the tank for hours. Amazing scape
Thanks 👍💚
Been managing well with not having a tank set up currently. Then I watch this. Ugh. Beautiful tank George.
Thanks Tommy 👍

I agree with others & experienced it myself, your plants are lacking in a bit of potassium. Just for your info, Red Cherry Shrimps are quite sensitive to large water changes. Wishing your family & you a very Happy New Year! 🎊🎆🎉
Hi George, keep the tank going. I maintain the 900 evolution aqua every 2 weeks. The pearl gouramis are eating your plants, mine do the same holes. Great tank . Cheers
Interesting! I have heard they eat plants. The plot thickens 👍
So beautiful! Definitely keep ☺️

Add shrimp. Would look so cool and might even help control algae....or make a snake for pearl G. (beautiful fih btw).
Hi George, please keep this system going!
Also could you share your fertilising regime and whether you add root tabs? How long will your soil be able to last?
Love your videos , maybe 2019 discuss how and what fish fit best in tank sizes/scapes . Thanks
Great idea, thanks 🙏
Keep it for sure, otherwise I can give it a sweet spot.
I wish everyone a Healthy 2019, happiness and success you have to achieve yourselves.

I have some problems with this type of slow growing aquarium:
1. The growth of algae is strong
2. No matter how perfect are the parameters soon or later black beard algae stasts to appear on the anubias or the ferns.

I have a very similar plant selection to you (including a lotus) and the only similar live stock I have to you is snails. So I would put my money on those being the cause of the holes. Great videos 👌
Thanks Richard, sounds like the loaches may be the culprits 👍
Keep it up!!!!
