I'm really left scratching my head over the decision to intentionally leave the water behind. That's like deciding to leave the parachute behind before jumping out of a plane. And the whole, you can go 3 days without water, doesn't really work that way in his situation. He's going to be miserable and on deaths door after the first day. It will exacerbate infection and problems with his leg as well. At that point all he's going to want to do is try to find water, vs getting off the mountain.
He left his phone behind. At first the altitude didnt impress him but soon...Surprise, surprise!!! Then he left his map behind After the chilling accident he also left the food and water!!! Such a smart guy, loving the challenge!!!
And went down the north face instead of back the easy way, and thought he could easily stop himself from sliding on snow without spikes, and covered his leg and caused an infection, left his water behind, etc. Yea he made a lot of dumb mistakes.
I know! Expert? More like foolish and got away with it.

I was able to overlook everything, until he got to the part where he intentionally left his water behind. Are you f**king kidding me! He is possibly the only person who has ever lived who would have made that decision. And the whole you can go 3 days without water, doesn't really work that way. After one day in the situation that he's in without water, he will not be in a good way and then he'll be on deaths door for however many days beyond that and it will exacerbate infection and problems with his leg. That's like jumping out of a plane and deciding to leave the parachute behind.
I hate these non-full versions..
It's probably because these are all re-runs since the TV show is no longer running and they are running out of shows to re-release so they've reached the point of chopping up the shows to make the series last longer.

I'm glad he made it out to tell the harrowing tale. I am not a hiker, and I know a lot of folks think nothing bad will happen and/or they are infallible, but please let your family/friends know a very good idea of what trails you are taking, the time line and when you will return. I'm surprised many of these people in these stories made it out alive, Best, from Colorado.

Imo there is no substitute for a good ole compass, a paper map, and some basic navigation skills. None of the above require batteries or signals of any kind- they work everywhere, anytime, under any condition. All they require is some basic knowledge and enough responsibility and ingenuity to keep them in working order- something most ppl can manage.
@@stoneysdead689 I carry a Garmin Inreach when flying anywhere in my plane, partly for the GPS functionality, but mainly for the SOS button to get help in the event of an emergency. I usually would rely on the GPS in the plane for navigation, but also carry paper maps in case of an emergency or equipment failure.

No point of a phone in the mountains, there won't be any signal to make a call, but leaving all the other things was silly although leaving tha map wasn't a decision he made, it was an accident
The second i saw that guide book and cellphone hit the seat in the car...my first thought was overconfident. If you can pack a stove and other gear, you can fit a small flat phone n book. I see this so often. In trouble w no cellphone. Glad he made it ok tho

There are so many things this guy does that makes me wonder how he made it through all the other hikes. From disregarded blatant safety precaution measures and means of contact, to deciding to leave behind the only thing keeping you alive, food and water. Time and time again, throughout this entire thing, he shows overconfidence. Even when his leg is totally broken and he's making that decision whether to bring food, his reason not to bring food was that he was so confident he would be found within a day or two that he wouldn't need it. I totally get that mindset though, because that is totally something you would have to tell yourself in this situation just to keep going and have hope, but I wouldn't have left essentials to live on the chance it took longer. I'm glad he's okay though and I hope he's learned from it.

First aid disinfectant & bandages!Excellent idea!! No one said this before. Even I didn’t think of it. Personally I think he did so much brilliantly and then awful mistakes. Well over the years of listening to all these accidents we’ll be PERFECTLY PREPARED.

Damn same compound fracture and location as me! But mine was from a car hitting it.

Why, why why, leave your cellphone? I can never understand this. So many times this kind of things happen and THAT is when they need it the most. He takes a camera but not a cell! Cells have cameras, cameras dont have cells.
Not that I go on overnight hikes, but I’m always going to bring a emergency locator / satellite phone

Such a tragedy..but it was stupid to enter close to the boulders. They're always unsteady and unpredictable..The hiker made some very logical decisions after his accident which helped him..But the story is incomplete..
