  • It's a hiker's worst nightmare: lost in the blazing heat of the desert wilderness. Out of food and water, lost and barely clinging to life in Joshua Tree National Park.
    Fight to Survive tells the inspiring true stories of outdoorsmen who have faced down death in the wilderness and lived to tell their story. Adventurer, author and survivor Craig DeMartino kicks off the series with his own story.

    Coming to USA as an immigrant, I highly valued and appreciate the Americans’ hearts and humanity ! The American people are so well taken care of ! The Rescue systems are the best ! The volunteers are so so kind ! The American Red Cross, Police , Fire Departments …….. really do thier best to rescue and safe lives even they have to risk their owns…..

    For any hike in the desert or the Bush, even when you think you know the terrain, you should always take a good supply of water as well as snacks, matches, a torch, a lightweight but warm waterproof jacket, a compass, a fully charged phone and a first aid kit. That’s what I’ve learned from watching these videos.

    • @HunterPeale
      @HunterPeale 2 роки тому +6

      i learned all that from doing it, but you are absolutely correct. i carried 4 times more water than my hiking buddies, call me paranoid, but if you fall and get hurt.....

      Also doesn't know if the parking lot is east, west, north, or south of where he is hiking. Not that it matters, I don't think he knows which direction the sun rises and sets.

    I got a short way in to this , felt increasingly annoyed with the foolish complacency of the hiker who should have known better , and decided to write this instead . Whenever hiking in terrain that has any sort of potential to turn against you , Take Emergency Items .Give a friend /family member/ park officials , the route you’ll be travelling , and an estimated arrival time . That’s all . This experienced hiker’s close call holds no interest for me .Whatever , is about all one can say .

    I hike all the time and i hike trails that i have been on many times before and normally have no issue navigating to my destination and back ....but if u lose the trail it can be difficult to locate that's why I always carry my compass with me even if i know the trails i carry mine.

    • @vmm5163
      @vmm5163 2 роки тому

      But how do you know you're heading (say, South) towards the trail using your compass, or heading South with the trail behind you? I got very lost heading West towards my house, but my house was at my back so I got further and further away from it although I was heading west

    • @BrettonFerguson

      The sun wasn't obscured by clouds. In the afternoon, and the next morning, it should have been easy to determine where the sun is, know that is west, and know the opposite is east, and which way is north and south. Did he not know which general direction the parking lot was?

    If you ever get lost: Sit down and stay the moment you are lost. You will be found much faster. If you wander like he did, you get more lost.
    Now, drink your Mai Tai and be glad you decided to hike the trail to your fridge :)

    IF nothing else. Ed had a great attitude. I'm no hiker but I love hiking and camping videos (I know couch hiker) my takeaways are always prepared for disaster. You never know what may happen. Always always take more than enough water for the hike and a means to start a fire to keep warm. Tons of snacks too, ok not tons but enough
