This is the only one of these stories that actually made me cry. These men are true heroes.
100% agree
Some of the very few members of the military who I could actually look in the eye and thank for their service. These people risk their lives in unbelievable conditions to save the innocent and there's no more noble mission than that.
The tears are streaming … I always say ‘ego kills’ … Captain Dave you were ego-LESS, self-LESS and the epitome of a human hero … YOU are a LEGEND … your colleagues survived because of your UNRELENTING FOCUS & DETERMINATION and selflessness …
My heart breaks for Rick but what you say is profound … ‘there are things we do so that others may live’
EXTRAORDINARY …. We SALUTE YOU.
UNFORGETTABLE
I know this was almost 33 years ago now, but I'm so glad these mens' stories are being told. It was also talked about in the book The Perfect Storm, but hearing the crew describing it in their own words is something entirely different. All of them were heroes. Dave was an amazing leader. My heart hurts for Rick's wife and daughters. I know these first responders and their families accept the risk when they choose to serve in this capacity, but actually losing one's life in that service is still heartbreaking.
Rip Rick 🙇♀️.
Respect and gratitude to those selfless individuals.
why did you spoil the video?
what is wrong with you?
people like you should be banned from making comments, the absolute worse of the worse are people like you.
Wow what a story! My respect to our military and first responders ❤
Best episode yet
Its a great comfort to know that great people like this exists in the world. Actual heroes. And their words about Ricks death was so powerful it had me choked up for hours.
I don't think I blinked for most of this episode. Overwhelming odds. Everything about this should have spelled nothing but total disaster for everyone involved. I bet it was a very long night for that guy in his yacht. My heart is so broken for Rick's family. I'm in awe of Dave. His faith, leadership, and extraordinary bravery and strength was almost superhuman. The fact that another helicopter and a small ship were sent out in those conditions made my jaw stay wide open. God bless first responders. Wow.
I didn't realise how hooked I was to this episode until I noticed your comment and nearly an hour has just passed 😮 brilliant episode so sad that someone lost their life trying to save another I've had my own personal rescue and been on saving life's at sea I'm lucky to be here thanks to the brave people at the r.n.l.i they are so brave and do a job they don't get paid for we are lucky to have people who are so selfless thank you all for your service to us
When I seen your comment I was like okay I got to watch this😁
I held my breath for so long i went dizzy 🥴 massive respect to these true heroes

To those who risk their lives to save others in these kinds of missions-Thank you for being so selfless and so brave. Most people are not as selfless and brave as you in this planet. You are true hero’s of our world. Respect to all of you
Gosh what a great episode! I always wonder what happens to the rescue team when they go on their missions. They are so brave and selfless! This is a reminder that every time we go on adventures, and things don't go as planned, there are people who are risking their lives to save other people's lives.
😊😊
Some of the bravest men that serve our country ty for your service.
Rescue teams such as these have gotta be the most altruistic people on earth!! Absolutely risking their lives for others ❤
I am so sad that Rick had to die. His poor wife and kids. Tears running down my face.
That yachtsman should get his own episode
Yes agree.
Broke my heart at the thought about the dog. It is not silly they are family too. ❤ 🐾
What an amazing story and i havent finished yet!
It's very humbling when others are putting their lives on the line to save Yours ❤
I'd expect someone to save me. It's literally their job 😂
I do it every day.... saving people's lives. The worst part is that no one's ever great full for more than a couple of days. Then they just go right back to their same old selfs and continue to show why we as human don't deserve life. I would go as far as to say that only about 5% of this world deserves real happiness. 95% of people shouldn't be alive😢 and if you think I'm saying I do deserve life, you're dead wrong. I'm an ungrateful pos just like everyone else...
@@wellidk556grateful**
That’s a sad outlook :/ are you a nurse? How do you save lives every single day?
@@wellidk556 I think you're right, people forget to be grateful and really think about how desperate they were when they would beg for assistance. But knowing that as you do is no excuse to act the same. (I like your 5 per cent , wish it were higher though!)
Someone with jeff dahmer as their profile name would be a self entitled asshole, checks out.
Definitely Top 5!! I still have 76 days at Sea #1 and the dumb So Cal hikers dead last lol. Ocean survival is always the Best!
Nothing with ever top 76 days adrift! This was a hell of an episode though
@gregtrust5599 Right!! 76 is just unreal!! (That was the first one I ever saw just a couple weeks ago and I been watching episodes everyday since then lol)
@@Ifyoudontknownowuknowthis & the guys that fell in the crevasse are my two favorite episodes. This was my second time watching this one.
Dumbest award goes to the couple (the young woman suffers from depression) who, on a quest to rekindle their relationship, book a trip to explore the Amazon, and of course get lost. Woman losing all hope, convinces guy to join her in suicide by knife. Miraculously saved in the um, nick of time, where upon girl ditches guy.😂
All these men are heroes. And dave`s the superhero.
You know it’s Friday when we get a good video like this
I seen this one years ago. It's a re upload 😂
Hero's ALL of you.. BRAVE , BOLD & BEAUTIFUL❤
I know this story well … it is included in the book The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger. Incredible story, incredible book. A must read for lovers of nautical disasters, weather etc. ❤️🇨🇦
Great book! And the movie terrific as well.
That pilot is a rare breed, wow well done sir!!
Seriously. These men are tough as nails. I have no idea how john survived
YAAAAAAAY!!! more more more ! i cant get enough , these storys are insane! people are incredible under these circumstances cant even imagine ....
Stories, not storys😂😂😂
@@luciemarinov129 xD oops
Wow .. I am speechless. The bravery, courage and strength of these men is amazing.
It’s pretty damn scary when unrelenting sharks become the least of your worries out in the open ocean
I imagine during storms like this sea creatures stay as deep under the water as possible so little risk of sharks. After all they can swim thousands of feet deep.
This is one of my favorite survival stories...
Heros all of them. What a dreadful thing to happen to anyone. ❤
I practically cried when they saw the coast guard ship
My two biggest fear deep sea and height! Those men have got balls of steels to go out there while I'm lying on my comfort bed and watching this. Goddamn !
Lord; may Rick be in your hands. God bless
its so incredible both the chopper and ship could find them at dark that far out in the ocean in a storm like that
Definitely one for the books. I was really into this one. Its amazing tgey made it ,... RIP rick..
God bless all men and women that in our lives, put their's in danger to save ours. 🙏 😢😢.
RIP ALL THOSE WHO LOST THEIRS.
MY heart goes out to ALL FAMILIES WHO LOST LOVE ONCE. ❤️ 💘 ❣️ 🙏🙏🙏🙏
From S.A.
Halloween 91 was a wild time. Yhe weather that year was insane. Minnesota had a blizzard, those guys got stuck in a horrific Atlantic storm...
The difference in attitude and behaviour between ordinary people caught in horrible situations, and professionals who've trained for it and face it every day, is night and day.
Damn. They just kept repeating injury after injury for John. What a survivor... gee whiz..... thank goodness there were survivors. That ocean can be torrential. Neptune really showed out that night!
Omg one of the best episodes ever these where some brave men I really appreciated this episode just a glimpse of what they have to go through heart wrenching ❤️❤️🙏🏾 very brave men!
R.I.P Rick 💔🙏🏾
In Mexico, I was doing a little surfing and I got smacked by. I think like at least 10 foot waves. They threw me like I was a piece of paper. The power of water is gentle as it can be something else
Being stuck between almost certain death and a high probability of a death and no way out
All rescuers are literally angels...God keep you all
😢 horrible. I struggled watching this. These men really do wake up everyday with God on their mind. Thank you all for putting us first before yourselves. RIP for your friend. My heart goes out to the family and you all. ❤
What a heroic story. RIP Sgt Rick
These guys take high high risks so others can be saved. God bless them all.
Thank you for another complete episode ❤
The ocean is the last place i would like to get lost! Just terrifying!
I hope the family of Rick Smith is ok. Without a major breadwinner and a nice sized family ... the needs would not be small. On the other hand, Rick gave his life while trying to save others ... the Lord is loving ALL the time. ALL the time the Lord is loving. The family no doubt received grace from the father's sacrifice. God bless them all. Thank you for the video.
Oh y’all dropping bangers
I remember this one. Tragic but extremely entertaining. What a great story.
Wow what a episode so incredible very emotional
YEAH, !!!! i haven't seen this one before. Happy Friday to me 😂❤
I think they wouldn't have a bad day if they rescued the sailor. More like a lesson. Glad they made it.
I was so happy to see that group of 3. My goodness. I love everything about the ocean, but I can't swim! It would have been a one and done for me. I would've said "well, it was a good run. Let me make my peace with my makers."
Im half an hour in, and given johns injuries and situation i have absolutely no idea how hes sitting there talking to the interviewer. 🤯 when they listed his injuries one by one i out loud said "ouch" and winced after every one...
I don't worry about dying or anything. Jesus is with me.
Say that when you are actually dieing you have no idea what that's going to be like
These men are my heroes ❤️❤❤❤❤
Definitely the best one . Rip to soldier
I'll be honest, I was waiting for the point where they would say "The exact ship they were trying to rescue, came back to rescue them" but that never came, still a really impressive rescue
R.I.P to Rick, died a hero 🙏🕊
What an AMAZING tale of struggle and heroism!!! After crashing in the middle of the ocean and then coming across those Somali pirates who had been blown off course due to that waterspout, teaming up despite the cultural and language differences they manage to persevere and write a musical telling the whole story!!!
I wish they would have added the story of the sailor they were t to rescue &/or stories of others… make this a 2 or 3 parter.
Crying my eyes out ❤️ what an amazing story. Heros 🙏
Like this comment for a moment of silence..
R.I.P Rick 🙏❤️
This was a truly gripping reenactment! Unbelievably brave heroes, all of them, so sad Rick died!😢 Glad the others survived and Dave was a true hero!
My heart breaks for Sgt. Rick and his families. 😢🙏🙏🙏💜
Brave heroes 👏 💪 strong warriors!! Much love and many blessings. #Salute 🫡
I felt like I was suffocating and was dam well tensed up throughout the whole episode. 😫🤦♀️ Had flash backs of when I was drowning. Felt like forever. Sheeesh.
Wow one comment said they were right on edge watching this so was I
Exactly ❤
The '91 "Perfect Storm" upon which Sebastian Junger's book of the same name and the movie with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg were based. The Andrea Gail, a New Bedford swordfish boat sunk, entire crew perished. I live on the Cape. This was such a tragic weather event. These men define the word hero.😢
The Perfect Storm
What a great episode. These guys went through hell. I was a nervous wreck watching this.
Hands down best episode
5 guys go out in a cyclone in an aircraft that will definitely need refueling, in an attempt to save one man. They're unsuccessful at saving that man's life, and lose one of their own in the process. Tragic.
There really needs to be a cut-off point as to whether it's feasible/sensible to launch a rescue effort or not.
Omg 😮 so in tense frightened watching it
Oh wow... i am so grateful to GOD... those poor men where saved
Yeah God was suuuuper helpful in that one 😅😅 the relentless 100 foot waves😅 real helpful...oh and Rick died..
~ rest in paradise rick ~ 😔🕯
@@Ifyoudontknownowuknowexactly! God did a terrible job: Caused the storm that made the rescue necessary, made the helicopter crash, seriously injured a couple of the rescuers, tormented them with weather for hours, and killed one leaving a wide and 4 little fatherless children. Nice work, god.
Awwwe😢so sorry your friend didn't make it

These r the BEST SHOWS EVER!!!! I LOVE THEM!
Yess!! Full episode 👍
the special effects in this one
Now we need an episode of the stranded sailor's point of view
What happened to guy they tried to save in first place
He was saved by a ship. Only Rick died.
Excellent show.. Bravo
Why is it when we all need something to work properly in the heat of the moment it’s always upside down
I never want to go in the Atlantic ocean in a boat or a plane nothing
So they basically told the guy on that little boat “” seee yaaa””
yes Jim was a very right on guy, say NO when its no. He must have had to contend with guilty feelings too but he need not carry that one. As for the rich among us who take our lives into our hands when we do potentially life threatening adventures...there is where it seems wrong.. Men give their lives for yours. does anyone else see it as ungraciously as I do?
*This a Goodie!*
Brilliance
Sometimes after a long day at work !! I take a nap wake up and completely forget i went to work so im freaking out checking the time !! And bam it hits me i already went to work 😂 !! Im guessing thats how it felt to wake up in that water 💦 he completely forgot everything !! Iv been there man feels wicked crazy !!
i cant imagine the fear these men were feeling! Massive props to them all
@@SavingSoulsMinistries facts 💫
"God". This is who the captain trusted.
thank you! Your rescue was by the grace of God!
" you can't tell God to turn the weather off " he said. I've been in a dire situation where I should have died
I constantly said " please God help me". I continually repeated this for roughly an hour, but maybe more....and as you can see .... it worked. Never underestimate the power of God's love !!! Believe in him, truly believe in him,not only when death is imminent!!!
The weather is bad....why not stay home? ......
You need titanium testicles and nerves of steel to do that job for a living. I hope they're paid exceptionally well for it.
Rip rick
Awwwww, cute story.
It's definitely possible to jump from far over 20m into water and not be like hitting concrete. I have done it. (40m). And the record dive is 58.8m. It's all about how you land, up to a point of course. Which is much higher than 20m.
A new episode?? Ohh yea.. 😊😊😊
Terrified of the ocean
love this show !
Jesus John done broke his whole body 😭😭
