I've ridden a drop bar MTB for about half a year. Then converted it back to flat bars with inner bar-ends. It's more stable on descents and you can still alternate hand positions.
@@Paulklampeeps The effective reach and stack was adjusted for by stem length and height, to have the same fit as my gravel bikes. It's just the weight distribution front to rear is different with drop bars, and the handlebar width makes a big difference.
This is great! I ride a drop-bar MTB myself. However, I would use a flared handlebar and a dropper post instead for better control. That said, I think this is the perfect bike for everyday use in various conditions.
Way to go! Hybrid gravel. I'm doing same but from MTB-full suspension MTB. I just go gravel tires, shorter travel and pump up the air. I don't care for the drop bar position and after 50 miles its nice to have suspension to absorb the bumps....body lasts longer. And with suspension you have much more traction at speeds over 35mph, cuz on the 50mph descent with a plastic helmet suspension becomes a safety item! LOL right? Love those wheels!
I built my drop bar MTB but took the cheaper route using Surly Corner Bars. The Corner bars worked perfectly. Your build is by far, much lighter, though. Enjoy!
Wow, that is a super light weight mtb set-up and still super functional! 1:27 if you want tips for an ultralight sub100gram maximum capacity framebag please let me know🙂
you don't need a dropper seat post unless you're doing legit downhills with a dual sus bike. Agree on the wheel.s No-one would recommend wheels you can't fix unless you have money to burn...or got a bike for free.
Did you have to purchase new wheels? Or is the new frame compatible with your old bike ahead composite wheels? Seems like the hub spacings are different. So did you use an adapter?
They are far more robust yes. But if they crack they are dead... They also are super rigid so very inconfortable. A puzzling choice for the rocks of the Atlas
I want to do this with my bike but can’t find good guides or info on what I can mix. Can I just toss a force 1 drop bar shifter onto my bike while keeping everything else? I’ve got gx 11 speed with hydraulic brakes on there right now along with a dropper post which id like to keep. Idk if road shifters are compatible with mtb brake rotors. I’d like to do the swap while replacing as little as possible and keeping it as cheap as possible
@Millicente Well, in that case keep in mind that your dropper lever and fork lockout lever have different clamp diameters than drop bars. For GX 11 speed there is no directly compatible shifter for drop bars. You can look at the conversions that Ratio Technology offers. You can keep your existing rotors.
@@momofabian5395 Yeah I thought that maybe I'd have to swap to something like a rival RD but I'm assuming that also means swapping my cassette. I read somewhere that some sram drop bar shifters can take a dropper post as a replacement for the left hand shifter. Don't know if that means it has to be a mod or just a built in compatibility.
It's probably the coolest looking bike i've seen in a long time. Can people really afford to drop (at least) 8000 Euro on a bike like this? Not me, that's for sure.
6:52 Riding these tires on a multi day trip on difficult terrain is a big risk. :O This is the only remaining tire from old school XC-era. Usually XC riders roll on them.
@@fpeter01 I personally have good experience with the puncture resistance of these tires. But I agree that there are better options in this regard, such as Mezcal tires.
I kind of like the concept but just as a thought...it is probably too aggressive to ride in the drops in a crowd while running over roots and rocks. In the climbs it would be too much forward postilion on anything considered that need more rear weight to maintain traction and again also while running over roots and rocks ...no chance to recover from a bad move. That style of wheel has never been able to offer enough rigidity. the string spoke wheels would probably be lighter.
@@Buzzalong.cycling ty. do you feel comf with that short stem and the 420mm wide bars? do you also know the drop bars internal reach? looks like a 65/70 to me.
I guess you chose drop bars and components for a reason (weight), but to be honest I don’t like the looks of the bike specially those wheels 😬 my bike for the AMR weighs 3 kilos more than yours 😅
The Drop Bar MTB could be the next big thing, when the crisis in the bike industry is over, I guess. Fingers crossed that your build does its job and that you finish the Atlas Mountain Race. Maybe first?

@@tinatpasselepoivre The wheels make zero sense! yup. Talking it up because it's a gifted bike. I don't think those wheels make sense at all for a mtb. Heck even a road bike. Basically the minute something goes wrong you may as well throw them out and get a lift home. Putting on suspension but then making your rims less compliant is just more daft shit from more daft cycling companies.

I don't think she's doing all MTB but maybe 🤔
I agree, you get the best of both worlds.
Thank god someone with some sense
It's because you need a smaller frame with a high stack otherwise it will just be too long and the brake levers will be hard to reach

What about the bike fitment?
