That are good tips for the winter rides. What is also a good and cheap winterhack. A ski baselayer wil keep your body warm during winter rides. Also filled in the form for the cube. My daughter wants to start cycling. So this would be a super starting bike.

I definitely like the toe warmers. I use Ignik brand but I'm sure they all work. One thing to note is they all depend on air circulation to power the exothermic reaction producing heat. So in my experience the toe warmers work best - even on gloves - it the pocket they go in isn't well ventilated. In fact, because of this - I don't buy hand warmers anymore. Toe warmers may not last quite as long but they are warmer and thinner thus making them perfect for when I need to warm up hands and feet on a cold, wet day.

Hola Sherry, I'm based in Helsinki, here's a couple of things I'd add to your excellent list for those who ride in very cold conditions, let's say -5 downwards: - A pair of thin merino liner gloves under thick gloves, to be able to fix your bike, grab some food, changing layers, etc... without exposing bare skin to the cold air - Insulated winter cycling shoes are great in dry cold conditions, in rain/slushy conditions is better to wear overshoes as insulated shoes take ages to dry - Bring more food that you'd usually need, as the body burns more energy to keep warm - Always bring a puffy or a thick fleece in your bags in case you have to stop to fix a mechanical or get stranded in the middle of nowhere - Stainless steel insulated bottles keep the drinks warm longer than those insulated Camelbaks - If you're in a country where roads are salted, wash the bike as soon as you get home. Road salt destroys the drivechain in no time

Plastic thermo bottles don't keep the water warm for long, I just updated to a proper stainless steel thermo bottle which works much, much better. I found the Elite Deboyo Race, it's expensive but it keeps the water warm about 3 times longer than my plastic thermo bottle.

Perth Australia :cold warrior here winters are mild here early mornings 0.4c is as cold as it gets metro I’ll do A rain ride to feels good being the only one out..rules if it’s raining pre ride the ride is canceled being caught in a storm is okay thunder & lightning

Cold warrior riding outside, I do 15km every noon Hour with moutainbike and at least 100 meters + of denivelation (Elevation gain) each day from monday to friday. and eat smoothies regurlarly with grenada, lemon, kakis, etc. I do soups by myself : leeks, carrots, onions, turnips and i stir all ingredients with blender. I find out why I love cycling : after riding you can eat all what you want and when I come back home after rainy weather, like a old wet mop, I almost am able to understand the way of life of the snails. Last sunday, did around 90 km dipping into my reserves (with my moutain bike in a racing bike peloton) + 5km running with vegetables in my bag to cook the soup, and yesterday, did 75 km included the daily 15km (60km around a equine racetrack) always with moutainbike (Slick tires) Last saturday : 35km. Only accident could stop me (a thought for our late Mike Hall) I wonder how humanity lived before bike are. When I ride on long straight roads in forest, cars want to overstep me quickly but they cannot imagine before they join me, that they will have to do at least one kilometer because of the high speed of the bike.
