- Had a great time checking out Dime's tone from CFH. This album had some of his greatest licks and solos.
Thanks so much for Seymour Duncan for letting me share the Dimebucker Zebra pickups. They really transformed my guitar into a really fun guitar with an iconic sound.

I wonder how many DSL20s you have sold......
Marshall should hire you as a Brand Ambassador
How does the dsl20 head compare to the dsl40 combo? I have the latter and wonder if this is something I can achieve
@@nathanboomhauer9952 The DSL40 is capable. Run a tube screamer (ts9 is what I’ve used) into either the Green Channel or Gain 1 channel. The biggest issue with the DSL40 IMO is the stock speaker. If you can get your hands on a V30 then that will take it to the next level. Keep in mind this guy is also using an EQ pedal and some type of IR to emulate a certain speaker/cab/mic capturing setup.
In your opinion lamb,
What is better for dimes tone,
A dsl or mesa
@@brandonooten5402 well get a randall if you really want to sound like him
i have 2 DSL40CR. You just don't need 100 watt heads anymore.
The power of an EQ pedal. It’s 100% needed in any guitarists rig
It really depends on the music you play, I'd say compression is more important.
I agree..You can sculpt any tone imaginable with eq’s. Both parametric and graphic are essential. All pickups are are eq’s. Throwing an eq in the loop was my greatest discovery years ago especially with my Mesa.
@@alanmartinez1025 what if I play with headphones
Totally agree, you can give a lot versatility to your amp with a graphic EQ in the FX Loop.
Even with a Mesa with two eq stages?
Dude casually recombining the exact fucking DNA of the much vaunted early Dimebag tone through a damned Marshall, with no shoes on and a bird in the room. Just epic. Excellent vid and way to drop a MASSIVE knowledge bomb. As a lifelong devotee of Dime, two hellaciously enthusiastic thumbs up my man! This one's going in my favorites for reference.
I have no idea why some people don’t like dimebags tone
This is awesome
It's about the scooped mids that make this tone...kinda sharp.
Probably bcs it's only suit with pantera mix. I mean that's the cool of before 2000 metal where every album production sounds different.
Now with all the samples especially for drums i think dimebag tone would not match.
Even for dimebag band after pantera the production, the mid isn't as scooped as in pantera
I see why some don’t like his CFH rhythm tones but how people don’t like his tone on vulgar, FBD and Trendkill is beyond me. Those albums have BRUTAL tones
Sure it sounds awesome on its own, but add in the bass, drums, and vocals, and it sounds like mosquitos in a jar.
@@chasemiller7974 it definitely can become lost in the mix. However if you EQ your bass guitar to cover it and have only 1 guitar player your fine. However, a 2nd guitar player with say a 5150 with boosted mids that guitar tone is lost
Just the beginning has me on the edge of my seat
Lol Ollie chirping over there like a smoke detector with low batteries
We have to agree that Lambchopper678 and Ola Enguland are the only two you tubers who have gotten close to dimebags tone 🤘🏽
Wes Hauch would like a word
Domicidal all the way
There's a few, Wes Hauch and Domicidal are very good, Ola as well. The absolutely nailed tone, though is this guy called Dusty Ln Studios. He literally recreates Dimes exact rig on Vulgar Display, and it sounds like Dime came back from the dead.
In a regional town in NSW those guitar mags were the only way to find out about cool bands. They'd have a t-shirt ad in them and that's how you'd investigate new bands....whoever had the coolest shirt design...PS props to Seymour Duncan!
I love this series, you absolutely nail on the tones and the riffs, and the history and stories behind the artists and the albums are excellent. Thanks mate, brilliant stuff
The number of things I learn watching your videos is countless, on the other hand, it impacts my economy as well. I already bought the DSL20HR and seems I'm going to need that MXR 10 Band! Can't wait for the next video!
Slayer and now pantera, I must be dreaming! Im glad you play more than just the most popular riffs like the main one in cowboys from hell, your are one of if not the best guitar youtuber out right now.
U should check out Ola Englund. Another awesome metal youtuber.
Okay, so the Slayer tone I thought was alright, but THIS ONE. This one is just on point! If I ever see myself in a situation where I can afford recreating this tone, I definitely will!
Ohhh my god. THAT sound is just stunning. Takes me back to the early 90's when I was 16 years old and CFH had just hit the stores. Me and my best friend bought the CD and man we were blown away.
For me Dime gave us so much and really know how to play his guitar in ways ours wasn't thinking of and for that I but can only say thank you Dime.
Jesus! I about put my head thru my desk banging out to that sweet intro! Great vid!
You are a true master of capturing tones!!! Love this!!!
Had the biggest smile in my face when you played psycho holiday at the end! Instant like!
I follow you since 5 years ago... Your channel is the best for guitar covers and lessons
LambChoppers you are a genius! Thanks so much for making the DSL20 a metal machine!!
Can’t wait for this one! Love the CFH tone
Fantastic video. you hit the nail on the head perfectly with dime's tone. i also remember reading that column in my late teens and how dime talked about using EQs to really sculpt his sound during this era. you still hear some of the marshal/ EL34 kinda of grit through the mix, but with the dual tracking and EQ setup you nailed it perfectly.
Not gonna lie, I nearly shed a tear listening to this. RIP Dime. And spot on mate!
Oh shit, I was just waiting for a dimebag tone video after your last one video! This is a happy thing to wake up to.
I've been in the same room as that sound. It's spot on. Gave me goosebumps a few times. And I miss him.
These are really cool and super informational videos, please make more!
You nailed Dime's tone! This is awesome!
“Down to earth guy”, understatement as F!!!
Thanks again!!!
It's always really interesting to hear how people chase his tone with completely diferent gear, awesome!
What you said about it being how you eq the tone is definitly spot on when it comes to the cfh tone in particular, as most people will fail trying to get that exact tone from the album since it's so heavily processed in post, that's why impulse responses can work wonders in some cases, it's about the structure of the tone.👍
great as always
whhhaaaaat, man, you pushed that dsl so far, crazy tone, bravo, lot of people try to emulate that sound using plugins and it sound sometimes close but lifeless. Your approach to this is brilliant.
This is one of the most accurate dimebag tone capturing videos I've seen . And it has to do with that whole almost dubbing dual layer guitar effect that's going on . It's almost seem like the guitar is layered twice.
Cowboys From Hell! Probably my favorite Pantera album. That's the album I tend to listen to the most from their discography. Great job, Lamb!
Yeah man. Nailed this tone. Excited for what comes next. These runthroughs are great. Especially as you use something way outa left field from what Dime used and make it sound basically spot on.
Cheers :)
just a chill bloke playin some riffs with his bird. very refreshing. thanks mate great vid. Ive got a barely used TSL100 rotting up at my folks house i should get it and try to emulate this sound.
Daaamn, the tone is so good!!
I wasn't a DSL believer.. always thought the marshall lineup was a one trick pony (high/mid eq focused gain). Not anymore after watching so many LambChopper678's tone capturing videos holy crap!
This is so good, ive never heard anyone get this close to dimes tone
This is now my Favorite video of yours(Holy Wars was before). Very informative. Has me thinking I Really need to step up my game 🤘🏾
Great vid man, got one of these amps cause of you. Can't wait to see what other legendary tones you can recreate!
Sounds awesome mate! You always nail these tones! Seriously impressive! Ollie was a chatty one today haha. Love him!
😀. You are the man. Thank you for a great video again!
A really cool video! Touché to you for putting in the hard work and making such a great informational video on the best guitarist ever to walk the planet 🤘PS: Your parrot is cute 🥳
you have a good ear for tone dude. i really enjoy these vids
Nailed it man thank you finally someone got it.
This guy can hear every sound in this universe.
Thanks for this nostalgia hit, mate. I had the Dimebucker in my KVX, but sold it during hard times. Never got the same sound even after having another Dimebucker in the same guitar. Some of those just sound special. I actually threw a SH6 bridge model in the neck and lowered it down to cool it a bit. That was a godly mix of metal pickups.
Anyway, tangent over - You nailed his tone here!
Thank you so much! I’ve made a dimebag preset in the helix with your eq tips. What a huge difference. Instant Dime tone🤘🏼
Awesome!! Been looking for a new amp and have been watching a lot of your videos. At the same time, been listening to Pantera a lot again lately so this one was great to see :).
Totally nailed it, I'm getting myself this pair of pickups
AHA!!! Sounds Awesome! Holy WOW, that final test with the pickups on that Sick JAckson V!!
YES FINALY ANOTHER DIMEBAG RELATED VIDEO
You're a tone replicating genius..love your videos
Great video man, huge help when thinking about what gear I need in my line up.
You read my mind, Dimebag's tone was the first thing I was going to try. I've got a DSL20HR on its way thanks to you. Great video, thanks.
I've got a Dimebag pickup set that I put together by buying a used dimebucker and a used bridge SH-1 in an Artist Gnosis 6FR. It's a killer guitar for A$299.
Very nice, been waiting for this one 😁🤘🏻
That's why I like CFH guitar tone. He used Marshall cabs on that album and that gave a very very little mid touch to his tone.
Crazy to think that he even scooped those mids a lot more on Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven. Pretty Dime signature sound.
Awesome vid, man. Cheers from Colombia.
Your clear and precise presentation of equipment and settings, mixed with very skilled playing and good video editing. Jackson/Marshall/SD should reach out to YOU and ask if they could possibly provide you with more gear. Props to SD nonetheless and to you for taking the time to produce this awesome content.
This video along with the Metallica tone videos are your best. I love the content you make, this is awesome!
I think you gave Ola Englund the idea for his next video. Seriously though, I can’t wait to try this and hopefully you can do a video on the ‘Reinventing the Steel’ tone because that album to me was Pantera hitting their peak and with the Terry Date remastered version getting released it bumped it up to being one of my favorite albums.
You nailed the dimebag squeals and rythm
Wow 😳 That was awesome 🤘
Really cool video, you nailed that tone!
Some People say Dimebag’s tone sucks! I say to them. You must not like guitar tone that sounds like a face ripping chainsaw! Dime was the man. His originality is unparalleled. He’ll never be forgotten. Also nice job on the tone, You definitely Captured it.
Yeah. "Drag the Waters" might be my favorite guitar tone.
Hi from Paris France. Thank you for the tip of EQ and Pick-up. Great vid......RIP DIME°
You're an excellent player. I have a Parrot too, except the louder I get the louder she gets. Your bird is very quiet.❤ I love Dimebag's playing and his tone. You nailed it. Excellent video.
Sounds great man! I just got my DSL20HR it packs a punch! 🤘😎
You don’t need a solid state Randall for his tone but man is it fun to play out of one for the tones
Heck yeah! God bless you sir and God bless Dime!
Awesome, man!
Dimebag's chops are pretty much impossible for a mortal man to perfectly emulate. But DAMN you killed it in this episode!!! Keep up the work brother!!!
Tube amps can definitely get you close, but a solid state Randall (mxr 6 band, furman, and of course the flanger/doubler) are going to have that signature tightness he had. The tube amps always seem to end up putting just a touch of low end and a bit of flub.
That being said, this is incredibly close. Well done as always man! Closer than I ever got using my tube Amps... wish I could get my hands on an early 90s blue mxr 6 band. That thing is magic.
Great sound and great playing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love Dime,He Had So Many Stories,Awesome Video ,Keep Rockin 🤘🖤✌Still Listening To Pantera,Happy Easter 🤘🖤🐰
Love the CFH tone!
Excellent playing dude!
Wow, coincidence.
I've been smashing Pantera last two days lol.
Another great vid man
Man that para eq made all the difference... 3 eq pedals plus the amp, who has that many eqs!? Lol
Great story about the guitar world mags. Was the exact same for me growing up in Gladstone... Great work man!! 🤘
Sounds awesome !! After seeing several video's featuring that amp I have decided after this vid to get one.
Very nice outro sir!
I have a Dean ML, loaded with the Bill Lawrence L500XL and Duncan 59, the 6 band in front and the para in the loop and I don't sound anything like this awesome tone. I've since gone back to the drawing board.
Awesome video! Getcha Pull!!
I remember the Riffer Madness days....best of times. RIP Dime.
Hell Yeah thanks for this... given me a couple ideas to play with to get a more Dime like tone :D
This was sick and epic brother. This tone and sound would sound wild on Megadeth 5 magics!!! You need to revisit it with this same setup!!!!!
Killer stuff! Thanks a lot!
You're certainly in the Marshall DSL hall of fame
You're getting some bangin' tones from that Marshall DSL20, I know it takes time to dial in a specific tone, I'm curious how long it takes to dial in the tone like this using totally different amp's and guitars that the artists used, You're doing this like it's 2nd nature, Nice work!
Good work! Are you going to do Vulgar Display Of Power's and Far Beyond Driven's guitar tones as well? For me Dime created the best tones in those two albums.
Cowboys from hell is one of my favourite guitar tones ever
What a great video
Absolutely spot on.
Also, The Art of Shredding has to be my favorite song from the album. Nailed it
One of my favourite riffs too)
I just recently baught a Seymour Duncan distortion trembucker , can't wait to get it installed also want to upgrade the 2 single coils as well
I don't know if you have chosen anything yet for those single coils, but I have a Distortion trembucker installed with the SD Hot Rails neck and middle position pickups and it just screams. They pair together really nicely and I actually get a good amount of versatile tones.
@@nvmbrsdoom5 I haven't chosen yet , but they have the hot rails where I got the trembucker , I will definitely look into those
i have one of these i havent plugged into in a while...im gonna have to try this
So abrasive and brutal. Love it !! Getcha Pull !!
Dimebag darrel used a bill Lawrence xl500 in the cowboys from hell album the company is now call Wilde pickups.
Fucking nice man. This album is imprinted in my persona. 1k !!!! holy shit dude. So simple!!!
I had the Marshall DSL 100 and sold it because I don't want a head where I have to get Pedals to make it sound better. I love the Megadeth and Dimebag tones you have re created. But I've never been a fan or dry unsaturated tones. So It's amazing how these incredible guitarists were able to play with their amps that way.
I ordered the MegaPara EQ pedal today thanks to this video, it seems like a criminally unknown Parametric EQ pedal!
Okay, LambChopper678 is a sound scientist.
