  • This video is a review over the mighty Seymour Duncan Dimebucker pickups. I capture a before and after preview to emphasize on the amazing sustain and tone these pickups have to offer, while also showing a tutorial on how to install them.
    Gear I'm using in video:
    -EVH 5150iii 50 watt head
    -Randall 4X12 cabinet
    -Shure sm57 mic
    -Dimebag Darrell "Dean From Hell" guitar
    Backing track is "20/20 Vision" and can be found on my soundcloud at this link: / 2020-vision

    That's a massive difference, sounds a lot less muddy on high gain. That's awesome, I'm planning to buy a Dean with a Dimebucker already installed.

    The Drill test helped me diagnose a dead EMG "select" pickup. Thanks for the tip! On the note of drunk ordering things, I just drunk ordered a dimebucker off ebay.

    Funny & informative haha! This video alone is all i needed to see whether I buy a dimebucker or not & it was good enough to get me to sub. I'll be fitting a new dimebucker to my LTD max200 RPR. Is it fucked up that I'm fitting a dimebag signature pickup to a max cavalera signature guitar? Anyways, keep up the cool content!

    Just installed the DimeBag into a 1989 Zion...it was originally equipped w/Tom Anderson pickups. About 18 years ago I put in a Seymour Duncan GL Screaming Demon. After I got it all setup, stringed and tuned...plugged in and I found it to be very high in mid range, lacking in treble and bass was okay. My Music Man JP 15 has a much more even spectrum voicing w/more crunch. Is that cause of materials (wood) or are those pickups that different? should I connect in series or Parallel

    You can tell the Duncs are doing 2 big things. More bass response, less "gain-mud". These seem like opposite things, but in reality, you need a really tight balance of trebble and bass to get clear gain, and in my experience, Duncs capture that perfectly every time.

    That’s quite the handsome Rolex Datejust on your wrist, got a submariner myself. Also I’ve got to say I prefer the Bill Lawrence over the Dimebucker, but that might be due to I’ve played Washburn N4’s for sometime which Nuno Bettencourt uses the L500XL in the bridge.

      Thank you friend! I am a big Yngwie Malmsteen fan and have always wanted a Rolex like his. As far as the Bill Lawrence pickup I haven't any experience. This was my friends guitar he wanted me to modify. I had no issues with the Bill Lawrence pickups that were in them (sound wise, disassembling them was what was hard) I just preferred the Seymour Duncans in the end, but my playing and my style are different than most and so are my demands in pickups so I am totally positive that the Bill Lawrence works for people a lot better than they did for me! Thanks again for the feedback!

    10:50 man I am so stressed. So the Dimebag signature faces the bridge?? I put it facing the neck. And I didn't have the instruction sheet, so I wired it based on some pdf about general duncan pickups, and it just makes a loud hum. I think I have red and white tied off as the ground, green and silver going into an improvised solder sludge on the pot, and black soldered to the tone switch.
    I hope to watch this video closer and be able to figure out the wiring, and hell, whether I need to unscrew the pickup itself and turn it around.

    • @thekrakenstudio4186
      @thekrakenstudio4186  Рік тому +1

      Hey! Did you ever get it figured out? I'm sorry I'm just now reading this, it sounds like a grounding issue, the green or silver should be the ground and if you still got issues I'd be more than happy to FaceTime you and figure it out if you got an IG or FB or Twitter!

    • @thekrakenstudio4186
      @thekrakenstudio4186  Рік тому

      wait now that I'm thinking about it silver should be hot like your "black" when there is black and red in the diagram and green is usually ground. It's been so long since I've done this vid I'm sorry lol anyways if you got a social media DM me at j_cubhughes and I'll for sure get linked up and help you out my friend even if we gotta learn together lol

    • @ceef8688
      @ceef8688 Рік тому

      @@thekrakenstudio4186 you are kind! And correct! I did get it figured out. My guitar had an unsightly blob of solder on the 3rd lug which connected somewhat to the pot. I thought it was a sloppy mistake, but it was the ground. When I soldered 1/2 inch of wire from the new pot's 3rd lug to itself, the pickup became dead quiet!
      However, though it sounds good, kind of screechy, I'm not sure if the orientation of the pickup itself matters (dimebag signature upright toward the neck) because I bought it on craigslist with no instructions. I might screw it down a little more if I need to ease the high end.

    • @thekrakenstudio4186
      @thekrakenstudio4186  4 роки тому +3

      Not necessarily, it isn't my guitar it's a good friend of mines. He preferred to have the Seymour Duncan set as oppose to the Bill Lawrence set. It wasn't just the bridge I swapped out I swapped the neck as well. I must say though after playing both the Bill Lawrence and the Seymour Duncan's I preferred the Seymour's. They had a lot more sustain time and more of a crisp sound.

      @thekrakenstudio4186  4 роки тому +2

      @Shaun Ashley I know that Bill Lawrence pickups were in the original Dimebag, like I stated in the video this wasn't my guitar and from my friend's (the owner) description, he told me it was a corny Chinese knock off. So I figured the "Bill Lawrence" pickup that was in it was a knock off as well. Which I really felt like it was, if you didn't get a chance to listen to the before and after you should to see what I mean.

    • @thekrakenstudio4186

      @@eemilhilden4202 You're absolutely right, but this isn't the first dean from hell, it is a Chinese rip off with a rip of the Bill Lawrence pickup, hence why we swapped them out.

    I have that same guitar except for my lightning is yellow it's not a real thing from hell if it says made in China lol all his guitars come from Florida. but Im going to do the same thing to mine but mine doesn't have a Floyd roads , it's just got holes in the back of the guitar you put the string through and then a simple bridge for the strings to rest on so instead of cutting it I was just going to buy a floating floored road bridge they're actually pretty cool but very expensive
