    My experience with the DSL20HR was in my apartment I can not use much volume at all before the whole house is shaking and everyone is complaining. But in our big rehearsal room with our drummer that plays very loud and the rest of the band cranking their 50-100W tube amps, this DSL20HR head is just not loud enough.
    In a bedroom, sure, it will lift the bed from your floor, but at a gig with a loud band, it is not enough.
    The 40W combo however is a HUGE improvement in volume and headroom.
    I do not understand why Marshall does not make a 50W DSL head since I do not like to play combo amps. To crank a 50W tube head would be ideal for small but loud gigs. As it stands It is a pretty big step up from DSL20HR to DSL100HR but what can I do, Marshall is forcing me to buy the DSL100HR which I think is overkill.

    • @TypeoS
      @TypeoS Рік тому +1

      I totally agree with ya, I wish they would make these mini/compact heads at least in 40watt versions, that would really be the ideal headroom for me, good for home practice and just enough volume to keep up at band practice. Best of both worlds😁

    • @mathias6423
      @mathias6423 Рік тому +2

      @@TypeoS Yes, 40-50W is where it's at man. For smaller venues you can crank it to the max, at some places you can mick it up to the PA as well. But 40-50W fully cranked is loud for smaller venues. And in rehearsal room it can boogey with my mates 50-100 W easily.
      I mean a 100W marshall head would be like 3-4 DB louder than a 50W, it is some difference but not night and day so 50W head would be perfect.
      You can get max from your tubes by cranking it up and you get them cheaper than 100W so it is win win. My friends with 100W almost never get to use them properly to their full potential, just a waste of money.

    • @Ron4president09
      @Ron4president09 Рік тому

      Bro the difference in volume between the 20 and 40 is marginal. Its a different flavor of distortion and a little more CLEAN headroom….Your crazy!!! Buy the 100, shut up and play!!!! Marshall isnt forcing you to do shit.

    • @CarstenStepanowicz
      @CarstenStepanowicz  7 місяців тому

      Actually the gain is produced in the preamp section and has nothing to do with the master volume. To answer your question: No, an attenuator won't increase the gain on your amp. Maybe some hotter pu's will do the trick. 🤘

      actually yes it will. As "schorschharrison" said above most of the gain will come from the preamp, BUT........... for most Marshalls to sound the way you want them to, you need to get the power tubes cooking a little. This amp completely opens up and sounds 100% better when you the get the master past 5. I use a cheap Burgera PS1 attenuator and run the gain around 2 o'clock and the master vol around 2-3 o'clock, amp in 20 watt mode and adjust the volume I need from the PS1, pure Marshall sound.

    I have plan to buy DSL20 head too. You are real pretty played shredding solo & legato. What's size of string to you use?

    Hello first of all im new in the bigger amp scene😄J have an DSL40CR now but i dont know but i dont like the gain of it, my problem is that not even the pinch harminic really sound, and the lead tone feels weak to me, like there is no real distorshen on it. Would an booster pedal help me? Can it be that my guitar dont have enough Signal or so? I have an older jackson rx10d. Please can you give me some advise?🥺

      Well, Marshalls in general aren't the most compressed amps which is a good thing. The downside is you have to work hard to get your pinch harmonics. A boost pedal will definitely help (Tube Screamer etc). I don't think it's because of low output humbuckers. You will learn to love the amp - You both just need some play time together. 🙂
