I heard a Dime story that at a clinic like this a kid told him that he wanted to learn guitar because of Dimes music but his parents couldn’t afford a guitar. Dime told the kid to stick around after the clinic was over. Once the crowd had dispersed Dime called the kid over and gave him his guitar and told him that next time he was in town he wanted to jam with the kid. Dime was a hell of a dude..

This sounds like bullshit to most people probably but if you've ever interacted with the dude, you'd know that's the kind of person he was. You hear all the stories about him remembering what kind of drink people wanted when he invited them to parties and making sure he got it for them and if you watch some of the behind the scenes stuff about the Moscow show you can see the way he was around people.

He said "No, I can't stand that type of music" So why do you have the cd I asked. "Because their guitar player is on another level, and I'd be a fool to ignore him bc I didn't like their music". The crazy thing about that, Dime, if what I’ve been seeing and reading is true, was primarily self taught...based on what I know having played electric guitar for over 32 years...some of the stuff he does, had to’ve been taught to him by someone...like he says “Little Penatonic, Little Minor, Little Major” the fact that he knows what that is, and is able to articulate how it relates to his playing style doesn’t quite line up with his explanation of figuring it out on his own by jamming with Kiss & early Van Halen records in his bedroom...just saying...

@@kingzuna8007 I wondered the same - in other sources Dime was quoted saying he started playing guitar at about 12 years old. He was born in 1966, which means he likely started playing in 1978. Which means in 1993 when this video was made, he had been playing for about 15 years.
But then again, his brother Vinnie tells a story where Dime disappeared into his room with his guitar for a whole summer, and when he emerged he was a virtuoso who could play anything from EVH or KISS. No doubt Dime had a special talent.

Dime never met a stranger. If you had a conversation with him, he was a friend. I had the pleasure to see a show in Dallas while I was home on leave from the Marines and had lucked out getting backstage from a bro working security. I didn't want to press in and be a "fanboy" just wanted to say great show. He ended up talking to me for 20 minutes asking me about the Corps, making fun of my hair, steady putting drinks in my hand even I wasn't done with the one he gave me before. I was gobsmacked on how approachable and warm he was. A genuinely nice human being.

My dad had been playing pool with him all night at some bar and just thought he was cool. After a while the old man catches somebody call him “Dime” and he figures out he’s talking to his teenage son’s idol. My old man ain’t into Pantera but asked for an autograph for me and I still have it framed to this day. This is from right around ‘94. My dad’s awesome too. • @knightfall9394

I really doubt he was 100% self taught especially considering his father was a musician who owned a studio and he’s talked about bothering guys his father worked with just to pick their brains. Obviously having a brother who played drums helped immensely and im sure he picked up all kind of stuff from listening and jammin to records, but im sure he picked up stuff watching guys around texas or shootin the shit with them

@@knightfall9394Yea but I don’t think he had an actual specific guitar teacher, just picked up stuff from his dads friends, they weren’t his teachers per say

I think that's part of why he was so good. Combine natural talent from being born into a musical family and growing up around a recording studio with a strong work ethic and passion and not learning the rules is what made his sound so unique.

Nathan Gale was a man with severe mental illnesses who was not given the correct medical attention he needed. Couple that with the extreme ease of requiring a firearm in the US and it was a recipe for disaster.
Now let me be clear - the act of him killing Dimebag was an absolute crime, but this wasn't just some ordinary fanboy who had a beef with the band. If the Joker film has taught us anything it's that unchecked mental illness can manifest itself in terrible ways, and often the person does not have a full grasp of either their actions, or reality in general.

He might not have been the fastest or the best in music theory. But he sure as hell was the most influencial and coolest guitarplayer in my opinion. A more down to earth and an caring person you have to look long for. Since im only 18 i unfortunally never got to see them live. Rest in peace Dimebag. I hope i one day will become half as good you were. (Sorry for my spelling, English is not my native language)

He was definitely the coolest guitar player in metal yeah, so was Pantera as a band. There's alot of metal guys and bands who are all like... cheesy, awkward and not cool haha. Pantera was just the most badass really heavy metal band. Same goes for Down. Really seemed like guys you'd want to have a drink with.

Your 200 percent wrong sir. Music theory is the study of practices and possibilities of music. His speed is excellent enough in the metal industry and just cause he doesn't play super fast on all his songs he articulates and throws in just enough, for me, to categorize it as shredding. Which I would definitely call fast. He can play just as fast as let's say yngwie malmsteen but let's leave that style of fast to yngwie. When I want to listen to classical metal I'll go there. I can't think of a more deserving guitarist who portrays possibilities and practice in his genre of music. He's one of the best in that field.

Major, minor and pentatonic. The thing is, start from the second, third or fourth note and keep playing and you’ll find the other five scales.
