Airtime on a rollercoaster is when the shape of the track is made to mimic the arc you would take if there was none, causing you to experience weightlessness. The curve can be made smaller or bigger by design in order to create floater- or ejector airtime respectively.
ViperFangirl's brother and his girlfriend are GPs, and they don't act like that. But Viper reports seeing a video of a couple on New Texas Giant who claimed to "have come out of their seat days before the accident." Not only is it just airtime, they were cashing in on a serious accident caused by negligent ops just to scare clueless GPs. You can't get through to those who are easily manipulated. That couple are clearly acting like Mr. Krabs.
Thank you very helpful ....I prefer to feel like I'm being pushing in to the seat...being aggressively thrown out feels like your life is relying on a seatbelt...and cause for consern.
Love this! I'm so bad at physics, but this makes it interesting! I like the ending on this one, too. :) definitely want to see more of this in the future. Keep up the good work!
Once a noble GP said: “I went on Intimidator and I LIFTED OUT OF MY SEAT! THAT IS AGAINST SAFETY RULES!!!! I am never riding that again.” Me: Doofus! It’s called airtime! *TRIGGERED*
COASTER BOT It is a great coaster, best in the park I'd say. I see why it's in this video, it's also one of the only Steel coasters with a double dip, which gives some really good ejector airtime
It's cool you represented the whole circular physics component, I didnt think much about it. I was generally thinking inertia, residual deep towers agree your body is at rear and used to it but the sudden change cause the body to remain as the gondola drops causing you to "rise" out of your seat. Great video!
I think a parabolic model of airtime would be more precise, as projectiles follow a parabolic curve. A train that follows the natural parabolic curve (according to its velocity) would feel weightless
when I saw tower of terror I wanted to cry since the closes one to me is closed and now being replace with the worlds largest garbage can known as guardians of the galaxy mission breakout
Though Airtime isn’t as good a blackout turns and aggressive transitions for me, on an older steel coaster with ratchet lap bars I make sure to get that painful ejector punch
Im currently in an argument with a said enthusiast who states that according to the math, you should experience exactly the same airtime on the front of the coaster, as u do on the back. Could someone please explain to me the math, or practicality of why there actually IS more on the back (He will not take anything I say to prove him wrong)
At 2: 33 I think you meant to say "However, floater generally occurs at g forces between 0 and -1g, 0 g..." whereas you said "...between 1 ad 0g..." am I correct?
Harry, do you know which manufacturer is building the vertical accelerator at portaventura? It looks abbot like the new vekoma track ( energylandia concept/ kiddie boomerang (( opposite Taron))) Also, could you do more park history videos ! I love your channel!!!
As others have said, it's Intamin. The ride is an accelerator coaster but uses LSMs instead of the traditional hydraulic launch. There will be more 'Theme Park: Explained' in the future. :)
I narrate all of the videos on this channel, as well as some videos on Coaster Studio's channel. I'll be sure to tell him thanks. :) And thank you for subscribing!
This is a wonderful explanation of airtime. I never completely understood the science behind airtime and now I know. Fantastic video, would love to see more videos explaining the science of roller coaster elements.
Awesome I am really glad you've learn something new; it means the video has been a success! There will be more 'science of roller coaster elements' videos in the future. :)
I love this video. Would you do one on "greying out?" I hear people use that term a lot but I'm not sure what it is. Either I've never experienced it or I have experienced it and just didn't know that's what it was.
I didn't get that much airtime on Shambhala, got a little bit of airtime on the drop and the last hills but thats it Am I crazy?? Lol I wish it had more ejector airtime hills tbh.
I hate when Ride ops staple you so you don’t get any airtime. It happened once on Iron Rattler (Six Flags Fiesta Texas), I think, where I lowered my lap bar, made it a bit loose so I would get some airtime, but the ride op came over to me, said, “Hands up”... *AND STAPLED ME!!!!! WHAT THE HECK MAN!!! I JUST WANT AIRTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!* I will say, I did get a little when I went though the Zero G Roll.
Hey Coaster Bot, great video! I really enjoyed it. I know how airtime works now, but i do have a question. If you have the same track, wooden and steel. Does that matter? Because in the Efteling, there is a wooden coaster, Joris en de Draak. It has a lot of airtime, but there's also a coaster, The Vogelrok. That's also a coaster with a lot of airtime. But i do feel more like going up on the Joris en de Draak. So to my question: Does it matter if you're on a wooden or steel coaster?
Thank you, I am glad you liked it! A wooden or steel track shouldn't effect the airtime too much. However, the different restraints of the trains may affect the ride experience. Also, wooden coasters have different track limitations compared to steel ones, this could affect the curvature of certain elements.
Roller coaster nerds would probably call the airtime on tower of terror flo-jector. Meaning it's not quite as strong as ejector (-1G) but it's stronger than weightlessness (OG). :)
Well I've only got 1 more video and I'll have watched everything except for the chats! Those are so long though, I'll probably have to listen to them like podcasts.
Wow that's incredibly impressive! I hope you've enjoyed watching everything. Make sure to listen to our podcasts also, find them at coasterbot.com/podcast
Hey! I want less air time lol. Don't like a lot of airtime. I will be going to get on ghost Rider for the first time do you know what car I can sit in for less air time so I won't say it is a terrible ride? Lol
Not a bad explanation, but the discussion of forces from the train and lap-bar would be better explained if referred to as their normal name in mechanics, "reaction forces, " or reactions that oppose motion. This would also be a great place to have free-body diagrams. Also, you mention the train exhibits circular/angular motion (which is true with a caveat), but fail to mention a key point, that to maintain constant airtime as the train continues over the hill, the radius of that circle, described by v^2/r, changes along the track length due to a change in speed.
I didn't use the term reaction or normal forces as I thought it may unintentionally confuse the majority of people watching. I went in to simplistic detail so that all of the viewers of the video would be able to understand. As a result I failed to mention a large portion of what actually happens as trains navigate the hill, but a simpler and easy to understand version.
Come for the rollercoasters, stay for the hard core physics. Good job.
Awesome! I'm glad yourself and people are enjoying the physics side of things. Thank you :)
TBH, this is pretty basic physics.
I am not good at physics for some reason!
Every Coaster Enthousiast loves airtime!
Very true! :)
Yes we do!!
No, they really don't! Not all, anyway.
Kristi Leslie Nope, they all do.
Airtime is one thing...being slammed against your restraint feeling like it could open at any moment is another thing.
Airtime on a rollercoaster is when the shape of the track is made to mimic the arc you would take if there was none, causing you to experience weightlessness. The curve can be made smaller or bigger by design in order to create floater- or ejector airtime respectively.
I love how your voice makes listening to information you already know so satisfying
Thank you that's very kind :)
GP when they experience airtime: OMG I ALMOST FELL OUT OF MY SEAT
Enthusiasts when they get airtime: WOOOOOOOOOO
ViperFangirl's brother and his girlfriend are GPs, and they don't act like that.
But Viper reports seeing a video of a couple on New Texas Giant who claimed to "have come out of their seat days before the accident." Not only is it just airtime, they were cashing in on a serious accident caused by negligent ops just to scare clueless GPs. You can't get through to those who are easily manipulated. @@YuukiTakemoto1996 lol
Can you guys tell me if you get that stomach feeling with ejector airtime?
what's your secret to having a sexy voice?
Being born in Britain, I'm afraid :/
Silvarret lol
Come on Silvarret, we'd all die for your glorious voice :)
Ikr
Co-Velocity you just made me feel uncomfortable
Coasterboat this was an awesome video. You should definitely continue this series and explain more Coaster Elements. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! There will be more videos like this in the future. :)
I felt lots of airtime today- I got on Taron 6 times at Wintertraum earlier on!
Lucky! Taron looks like a masterpiece of a coaster! I need to plan a coaster trip to Europe one of these days.
That is awesome, I am extremely jealous! :)
Thank you very helpful ....I prefer to feel like I'm being pushing in to the seat...being aggressively thrown out feels like your life is relying on a seatbelt...and cause for consern.
That's understandable honestly.
Airtime is the best part about coasters just in front of pacing and intensity. This video was awesome!!!!!
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Love this! I'm so bad at physics, but this makes it interesting! I like the ending on this one, too. :) definitely want to see more of this in the future. Keep up the good work!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
I get it!
I dont get it
Once a noble GP said:
“I went on Intimidator and I LIFTED OUT OF MY SEAT! THAT IS AGAINST SAFETY RULES!!!! I am never riding that again.”
Me: Doofus! It’s called airtime!
*TRIGGERED*
Not everyone is expecting to leave there seat like that and it can be down right terrifying...if your not ready for it.
2:07 SKYRUSH IS LOVE
Why did you show Millennium Force when talking about airtime?
And intimidator at Carowinds? Ha NO
And raging bull?
Airboss Haha that makes me laugh
Guys plz I'm from the UK, our rides seriously lack airtime.
Um... I have Phoenix and Skyrush. Fite meh.
One of your best vids in a while. Really got in depth.
That's great, thanks! :)
I don't mind more videos like this.
Awesome! :)
1:12 is a coaster (which I have ridden) called the phantom's revenge. I was really surprised to see it in this, as it is not from a huge park.
Awesome to hear. It looks like a great terrain coaster, especially that second drop! :)
The inertia of the riders is part of the circular motion 'topic', but is also another way of thinking about it. Thank you :)
Much better than the CoasterForce series
Awesome, thank you! :)
Can you do a "Coaster Track heart lining: Explained"?
This would feature in something like 'Heartline rolls: Explained', or maybe even 'Inversions: Explained'. I'll add them to the list. :)
3:35 was my scariest part of the tower of terror
But also the best part! :)
There's this ride at six flags magic mountain called west coast racers the most airtime I ever experienced on that ride.
This was an excellent and novel idea for an "explained" video. The concept of airtime has always been kinda ambiguous for me, so this video helped.
That's awesome, thank you! :)
Most Airtime on a Coaster:

+CoolboygamerHQ Thank you, it's great to hear you enjoy our content! :)
Omg it you aahhh
Your content is awesome
COASTER BOT you just made my day :)
I like how you use DB since it has a lot of floater air time
"the direction of the force are reversed" *shows Millennium Force* I get it 😏😏😏
I do not :(
@@seesaw41 he is saying millennium force is force less
Edit: fixed a typo
I think a parabolic model of airtime would be more precise, as projectiles follow a parabolic curve. A train that follows the natural parabolic curve (according to its velocity) would feel weightless
I feel like I need to go back to Physics class to keep up with you. Amazingly informative nonetheless!👏
Thanks for watching :)
Ive always wondered about this! great videos as usual.
Thanks, I'm glad you learnt something new :)
I finally know the difference between floater / ejector airtime
Me too I love floater air time but as a large person ejector airtime is concerning.
air time drops hurt me and I'm trying to find a way to not feel airtime, or at least enjoy the feeling of it.
So that I can ride big roller coasters.
Good luck
I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS AND PHYSICS!!!! AND I LIVE FOR AIRTIME!!!!!! ONE OF YOUR BEST VIDEOS!!!
Thank you, I am very glad you enjoyed it! :)
You should do Vertical Loops explained (Talk about how they've changed over time and all of that.)
That would be an interesting video, I'll note that suggestion down. :)
when I saw tower of terror I wanted to cry since the closes one to me is closed and now being replace with the worlds largest garbage can known as guardians of the galaxy mission breakout
Awesome video explaining about airtime!
Thank you! :)
BryceFourn 2001 why you gotta be so nice about everything.
Though Airtime isn’t as good a blackout turns and aggressive transitions for me, on an older steel coaster with ratchet lap bars I make sure to get that painful ejector punch
First vid up fam
10/10 would watch again.
Really good video. You should definitely do more roller coaster term vids.
Thank you, I will look into doing more in the future. :)
so I was at SDC the other day and there was mack trucks on site. #Spinning coaster. What theme do you think it will have?
Exciting news! I am not sure. :)
I would of gotten pictures but my phone died. First world problems. The struggle is real !
:(

that guys no enthusiast if hes that dumb
Air time for me is basically my mom holding me down because she thinks I’m going to fall out
Great video! I also liked very much the "technical/physical" part, very interesting!
Thank you, I am very glad you enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the explanation. Have a blessed day/week.
Thanks for watching :)
The Tower Of Terror at Disney's California Adventure is now closed undergoing remodeling for their new ride Guardians of The Galaxy Mission Breakout.
I heard! It seems many people are not happy with the retheme.
I know, it was one of my favorites. It opened around september 2004. I AM A year older than it
Andre De Leon So is the Tower of Terror at Disney world in Florida
😭
At 2: 33 I think you meant to say "However, floater generally occurs at g forces between 0 and -1g, 0 g..." whereas you said "...between 1 ad 0g..." am I correct?
Technically floater airtime is the feeling of weightlessness, which occurs below 1g. Therefore what I said was correct :)
Thanks :)

What’s flojector airtime? Between -1 and 0 g?
Yeah that's right!
My favorite part is when the coaster is going down a LOOONG DROP! Best feeling in the world! 😍
Hell yeah!
Coaster bot how do you make this type of video
What do you mean? :)
COASTER BOT like who narrates it tell coaster studios thank you I came from him to you btw I subbed
I narrate all of the videos on this channel, as well as some videos on Coaster Studio's channel. I'll be sure to tell him thanks. :) And thank you for subscribing!
COASTER BOT I asked because coaster studios does like how to ride... So I didn't know if it was a program or not
No no, that's me! I feature quite a bit on Coaster Studios' channel :)

This is exactly why I ride roller coasters. I crave airtime! Why wasn't Shivering Timbers or the Voyage shown here?
Awesome! Everyone loves a bit of airtime! Not all airtime coasters can be featured in a video, especially if I don't have footage of it. :)
Excellent as always
Thank you very much! :)
i love floater airtime but i absolutely hate ejector airtime not because its scary but because i dont feel the weightlessness
inversions explained and what kinds of inversions exist and combos like cobrarolls
That's a good suggestion, thank you, I'll note it down :)
yay
i finally get to understand what inversion means and more info about it!
Wow, very nice video. I knew what airtime was already but not the specifics so much. Thanks for this, looks like you really did your research! :)
Thank you for watching and enjoying it! :)
I didn't get that much airtime on Shambhala, got a little bit of airtime on the drop and the last hills but thats it Am I crazy?? Lol
I wish it had more ejector airtime hills tbh.
That's something you don't hear very often. Maybe next time try riding in the very back rows. I'm sure you aren't crazy :)
I got some ejected airtime on the smiler (That hill that goes under the spider)
Yeah! The Smiler has two moments of ejector airtime, both going over the small hills towards the end of the site. :)
It was awesome
i really love floater airtime
Don't we all! :)
I hate when Ride ops staple you so you don’t get any airtime. It happened once on Iron Rattler (Six Flags Fiesta Texas), I think, where I lowered my lap bar, made it a bit loose so I would get some airtime, but the ride op came over to me, said, “Hands up”...

Do people care about lateral Gs that much?
COASTER BOT I do!

Rob's Rides exactly
COASTER BOT I really do!
So happy yo mentioned tower of terror :)
R.I.P Tower of Terror :(
At least Coaster Bot's the only person who mentioned it....

Please explain G Forces and Inventions in your next video, so that it can help me with riding coasters that go upside down.
That's a great suggestion, I will add it to the list of potential future videos. :)
Magnum XL 200's "airtime" is like a diamond shape, it's not legit XD
haha
The tower of terror has so much air time
It really does! :)
The tower of terror is ejector airtime? Thanks for the video very interesting
Roller coaster nerds would probably call the airtime on tower of terror flo-jector. Meaning it's not quite as strong as ejector (-1G) but it's stronger than weightlessness (OG). :)
Awesome! I didn't know most of this stuff, so loved it! It would be good if we could get some airtime in the UK though!
That's great, I am glad you learnt something new. We do need more airtime in the UK! We shall pray for SW8 and construction 2018 to deliver. :)
COASTER BOT Absolutely!
So what do you call G-force between 0 and -1g?
People sometimes call is flo-jector, but honestly there's no real name! :)
Thank you for making this video.
No problem! :)
COASTER BOT can you check out my channel and give me feed back plz
You have a nice start to your channel. Be sure to keep producing videos regularly and maybe include some commentary? :)
COASTER BOT thank you
GP: stapling themselves
Me: makes as lose as possibly
woop, I like hairtime
Hairtime? Is that when your hair flies up due to airtime?
COASTER BOT yes! finally, someone realises what hairtime means!
I think everyone knows that -.-
More Roller Coaster TERMS PLZ
I will look into doing more in the future. :)
When I read the description first I thought it said "What the hell does airtime mean"
To be fair that would work for my description, it gets the same message across! :)
COASTER BOT Yea but it's a little agrssive!! ;)
That's true :)

What does per second per second mean?
It's the unit of acceleration, which is the rate of change of velocity, and velocity is the rate of change of displacement. :)
What’s your favourite park
That's a difficult question. I have a few, including Alton Towers and Europa Park!
My favourite is Alton towers and my favourite coaster is the smiler
The Superman at Darien lake in new York has amazing airtime.seriously.
It looks like it! :)
Dude the airtime on the Titan at six flags over Texas has a hill of an insane amount of airtime
Awesome!
I agree! SFOT is my home park
JTCoasters dude I’m going there on Monday wanna meet up
Dave Rianlloyd Lopez sorry, don’t think I can :(
so yesterday I made a wooden rollercoaster with the same layout as millennium force but instead of being 310 feat I made it 110 feat
***** I will but video quality is gonna be bad I have recording issues when it comes to the built in screen capture
Don't have steam but I'll get one
Awesome! :)
***** just got it how do I post it on the workshop. I didn't buy nolimits 2 through steam will that be a problem?
***** I'm used to it and automatically assume it's in a joking manner
No one warned me. I just assumed my seatbelt or restraint wasn't on tight enough.
Now I know why we have restrains on rollercoaster
I LOVVE AIRTIME SO MUCH WHEN I FLY OFF THE TRACK ON MY ROLLERCOASTER AND DIE
tim says good
Science lesson
omg i got a like this is the best day of my life

I love airtime but I hate it at the same time, fury 325 has some crazy airtime
Yay I can sound like a theme park expert now 😃😃😃
I didn’t get any airtime on Lightning Racer, Laff Trakk, Great Bear, Wild Mouse, WildCat Or Fahrenheit at Hershey
A lot of those rides weren't built for airtime. You might have got a bit on the wooden coasters though. :)
COASTER BOT Nope, not a bit. My friend next to me was a more heavyset fellow and he got way more than me, being a human twig.
Do a Tokyo DisneySea: Explained :)
I will add it to the list of parks to potentially explain in the future, thanks for the suggestion :)
So the more air time, more negative G’s
Less airtime more positive G’s
rip tower of terror

Very interesting!
Thanks :)
Yes. Moars. Ples
There will be more in the future :)
