As someone who has a limited edition 3ds xl that has so much value inside of it, when the system stopped booting correctly i was devastated. It took nearly two years to find a correct solution and your video was the one. The hardest part about it was just getting inside to try this trick; one of the screws was stuck and stripped, so we ended up destroying the head. That took three hours. The fix? Five minutes. I couldn't believe it when it turned on. Absolutely astounded and happy and ecstatic. 11 pokemon games, a red pokemon xy 3ds xl, and the lady who owns them thanks you from the bottom of her heart. This video was game changing!
@@KyleAwsm Mine won’t start up at all the boot light doesn’t turn on and when I plug the power cable in the does what the boot light does here turns on for a couple of seconds and then shuts off. Any ideas?
@@KyleAwsm so I am back again because I have recently returned to my 3ds xl and it has gone back to the same issue as before, for no discernable reason. :( anything I should try and look for? I have already tried the technique of taking sd card out and then back in again
I actually discovered this by complete accident on a 3DS I was working on, as well. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it, so instead of experimenting with the connections first, like you did, I just disassembled the whole thing to have a look around. I ended up ripping the camera cable while reassembling it (not while pushing it through the hinge, like you would think, but by making a hasty movement over the top screen, where the cable runs). Needless to say I was bummed out about it. I still put it back together so that I wouldn’t loose any parts, tried tuning it on and voila, it worked. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a piece of electronics that dumbfounded.
Same thing just happened to me when trying to reassemble the ribbon cables 😫 but now my 3ds doesn't even show the blue light. Just the red light while charging. Any suggestions?
How would you replace the software? I sent in my DS to be fixed and they sent it back the same. The software looks like it works but I can’t load games. If I add a chip, it crashes and I have to turn it off to use it. What would you recommend?
3DS systems are from hell, in terms of repairability. Those hinges with multiple ribbon cables routed through..... Don't try it as a first timer of the system is valuable for you. I learned it the hard way.
@haleman1704 In response to your original comment: A more true statement has never been spoken. These things are literally a nightmare to work on. Hence this one sitting for over a year. 😅 Thank you guys for watching!
Hi, today I received a 3DS LL with the same problem than yours. Thanks to you I managed to give life to it again, it was a bit painful as it was the first time I ever tried a repair on an electronic device. On the downside, I broke the 3D switch (the tiny metal part that is inside, not the plastic switch that you use) trying to put back the upper case, I mannaged to keep it without the 3D (who uses it anyway...). Anyhow, thank you so much for your video, it was so very helpful and I'm glad I discovered your channel !!
Liked and subbed. Thanks for uploading this video, man. It really helped me out. I tried a bunch of different things to fix my 3DS XL that I bought used, but nothing worked until I watched this video. I unplugged the camera ribbon cable and now it powers on every time. Keep up the great work!
My 3ds XL only showed the charging light, not even the blue light but THIS VIDEO BROUGHT IT BACK TO LIFE 🖤 Thank you so much for the super comprehensive fix guide!! The way mine got working again was by removing game cartridge, sd card, disconnecting wifi and infrared components AND disconnect the Cameras. Then I connected everything back EXCEPT the Camera and it freaking worked!!!!
THANK YOU. My new3ds XL suddenly stopped working (only the orange charging LED was on). For several days I took it apart and put it back together many times, testing all the methods I found on the Internet - with no result, I almost gave up - unplugging the camera shown in your video solved the problem - it's like new again - THANK YOU.
I haven’t used or touched it for almost 6 years, and I tried purchasing charger and charged it, it opened but for a few seconds, it just suddenly turned off. Can ya’ll help me 😫
It will probably work if you open it laptop style instead of opening the top screen all the way. I had the same problem and when I fully extend my 3ds it shuts off. If I open it 90 degrees it works fine. Might be a pain to play on though but I've grown accustomed to it.
I have the same problem, it could be a booting file missing really, you have to insert that file in the sd card. Be aware that i still have a lot to learn so in case you could see a discord server all about Nintendo consoles
Fortunately, i didnt have to disconnect anything from the mainboard, but just by pressing on the case around the camera etc. i could get it back up and running! thank you so much for your time and effort!
I am so tilted, I actually tried everything just now and you know what genuinely solved it? BLOWING INTO THE MICROPHONE! I was on cam with some of my friends and I just couldn't believe that that fixed the issue. To this day it's still one of the most confusing things I've ever experienced.
Hi there! I just recently have been feeling the itch to get the old system going again, but had this same issue, with the blue light coming on and then an audible pop. I followed your troubleshooting routine and even managed to get the system to power on again, but the difference in my case is that the camera did not end up having any effect, but the issue lies with the upper LCD screen. I would be super grateful for some advice here: I can actually power on the system and boot games as long as the LCD screen is disconnected (which is weird, because you'd think that it might not even turn on if the top screen is missing, but this is what happened) - I checked the connector pins and they don't seem corroded or damaged and in trying to properly seat the upper LCD screen to check if it had been loose, I got the black screen blue light issue again. This leads me to believe that 1) a damaged part will prevent the boot but 2) it missing will not (for some weird reason). I have been unable to check if the Top screen cable is broken somewhere in the little cable tube, since I didn't dare take those out due to it looking really difficult to get back in, but from an outside glance there didn't seem to be much wrong with it. My question is: do you reckon that my LCD screen is broken and needs replacement? There is no visible damage, but testing would indicate that the issue must lie somewhere along the way between the top screen, top screen ribbon and connector. I don't really have a second system to test it with, so I'm wondering if it's worth finding a LCD replacement (or if cheap-ish, a parts donor), do you have any advice you could share?
Well I'm having the same issue on a Year of Luigi 3DS XL just like the one you troubleshooted in this video with the exact same issue, however, the fixes you used aren't working on it, haha. None the less, I'm super grateful for the video, very insightful and useful regardless! Great content, subbing.
Electronics shop wanted us to pay more than the console's value so we had an Old3DS console as a brick for years. Decided to give it another try and found your video. Now it is properly fixed (even if I can unable the 3D switch, it is permanently on). They even left white stickers in the ribbon camera cable, marking where the problem was but I never had the courage to open the console myself. Thank you!!!
If you have a New 3Ds (in my case XL//LL) with 11.17 kernel hacked, you just have to remove back cover--->remove battery--->with battery removed press & hold power button for 5-10 secs (so it will discharge any residual electrical current in the circuit)--->plug the battery back and power it on, if it doesn't work, do the same as I said before but also remove the SD card, blow the SD slot to clean it (please don't spit on it while blowing 😅) or use a compressed air bottle with a distance between 10-30cm to remove the dust and try it again.
@@kazmaBlends I'm glad I was able to help you m8 😁 As an advice, I'd recommend you to make a backup of your firmware and all your SD card, because it's not weird that a SD card that you've been using and playing with it all the day without issues on your 3DS console, you turn the console off and then back on again, and the data got corrupted or the whole card gets damaged, and now you have a nice paperweight to prevent your tissues to blow away while crying 😅😅 I made a backup of my NDSL, DSi, 3Ds and New 3Ds firmware (including NDS and DSi firmwares inside of 3DS consoles) to prevent damages, since if you play a homebrew that is a virus for the NDS console, it will affect on your DSi and 3DS consoles, on NDS compatibility mode (you won't be able to use NDS features). For NDS there's a fix to prevent get you NDS bricked, I did it on my NDSL long time ago, but I don't remember where I got it. I think is something called flashme patcher or something like that. I dunno if it will work on DSi or 3DS consoles.
I recall seeing that blue light issue, yet I believe it happens when the top screen ribbon is not seated properly and not necessarily a camera module/ribbon issue. I could be wrong, though. Good video!
Thanks! The top display is a mandatory component and is required for booting, so yes it will produce the same issue if it's not seated properly. The 3DS has multiple components that will create this same symptom. Thanks for your comment and for watching! 🙂👍🏻
My 3DS XL turns off immediately if I fully open the top screen. Tried leaving the camera ribbon disconnected but it didn't work. What can I do to keep my console from turning off?
Going to give this a shot, my 3DS XL (also year of luigi) has had the same problem. I got it in parts right now :/ as it has been for years. but this gave me the motivation to give it a shot once again. i’ll edit if necessary.
Great content! This case reminds me of event, when I helped my relatives whose desktop computer has boot problem. After long hours I finally realized that it was broken mouse. Relatives dog has bitten cable of the mouse and this caused booting problems, because one of the devices did not work or was not recognized during boot time!
So after watching this i tried something without having to open the back the 3ds. I tried to turn my 3ds on while barely having it open and IT WORKED!! I think it worked cause its connection with the camera wasnt being strained while mostly closed. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!
after reading this comment, i tried it and it worked on my own 3dxl! i was able to deduce that the problem started when i actually popped the screen back. thanks so much!
I've been doing this, but it really only turns on if I'm lucky, now. Really sucks. I'm trying very hard to keep it on as long as possible to transfer my NNID to an older 3ds because they were way sturdier. I'm trying this if I could get a smaller screwdriver to remove the screws inside. Outside was way easier to remove. 😭🤧
I was trying to fix my 3DS that wouldn't turn on at all. I started watching this video and you mentioned all the weird fixes like blowing into the microphone. I thought "no way that would work"... It turned it on
I did the tutorial, but my 3ds XL still won't turn on. Also, the blue light doesn't even light up, but the charging indicator light still works when I plug it in to the AC adapter. How do I fix this?
Hmmm, something tells me that something else is causing this behavior. This video is mostly to show the troubleshooting procedure. I've seen that these issues are caused by many different components. Strip your system down to the bare board. Does it still do the same thing then? Thanks for watching!
@@KyleAwsm It still doesn’t turn on. I recently installed Homebrew on it, so I think that it’s bricked. I’m thinking of just buying a new 3ds, and since the battery in my old one still works, I could probably get a good deal on one with no battery
So my 3DS is homebrewed & I was playing some games on it but it crashed & soft locked like 3 times, when I tried to turn it on it didn't & instead game me a directory to follow & delete the cache created by the crash, so I plug my SD card on my laptop & tried searching for the directory but I didn't find it, turns out I needed to navigate the directories on the 3DS using GM9 & I did & removed all the cache, it was like 7 files of cache, but it still doesn't turn on, it just remains with the indicators on, I can boot into GM9 & Luma but not into the menu.
I can't find anything on UA-cam or anywhere else about my n3DS XL problem. When I start the 3DS, the screens don't light up but I can hear the usual boot sounds, the menu sounds, and the cursor moving around. The cursor sounds stop after a couple seconds. If I start the 3DS in recovery mode, the screens light up and I can see both of the system update screens on the upper and lower screen, and the touch response works, but after checking for updates the 3DS shuts off and when I turn it on again I have the same problem as before.
Strange! Here's a place to start maybe: Are 3D mode/control, the cameras, and other misc. features enabled during recovery mode? Sometimes, from what I've noticed, is that these subsystems appear to interfere with each other, and recovery modes disable them, sort of like safe mode in Windows. So, if one of them isn't working properly, then recovery mode simply just bypasses it. Honestly though, that's just a wild hunch, and I have no idea what the problem with yours could be... However, since the New 3DS is still quite new, I would contact the Nintendo help line, since it's likely still supported by them. I wish I could be of more help!
@@KyleAwsm I called Nintendo and all they had me do was try booting in recovery mode. It's $85 for them to fix it so I'm debating whether to send it or not. I only have 5 cartridge games but they're useless without the system. We've sure come a long way from the original 1989 Game Boy, the only thing that stopped that was dead batteries.
I need help I just dropped my new 3ds xl tonight while I was playing an game and when I picked it up the screen was black. When I tried to turn it on it won’t turn on with no blue light. But when I plug it in with the charger it showed the light that it was changing. I really do need help with this.
You may have cracked the top display or damaged a ribbon cable in the hinge. Are there any cracks on the shell plastics anywhere? Concussive force like this wouldn't have damaged a ribbon if there's no breaks anywhere though - Just a thought. If you still have questions, you can reach out to me on Instagram via www.kyleawsm.com. Cheers! 👍🏻
@@KyleAwsm I believe it maybe do to something internally because I don’t see any visible cracks on the plastic shell and it only powers on by having the charging cable plugged into the back and pressing the power button in a specific way. Like plugging in the cable a little bit in and holding the power button and sometimes it turns on.
This has been insightful. I tinkered with alot of stuff in my new 3ds, trying to replace some things. I've learned alot but I was connecting and disconnecting ribbon cables constantly. I finally got everything to work, but once I screwed everything back together, reassembled everything, I then ran into this problem. Replaced the motherboard from another New 3ds and it worked. Camera was already broken and I didnt care, so that connector isn't being used. I'm assuming it's one of the screen connectors or the speaker/3d connector, all of which are required to turn it on. I am not in the mood to diagnose which one to replace, so I'm opting to just get another motherboard, then call Nintendo to transfer my stuff over to another 3ds for now.
Oh wow yep. While I'm not one to take their system apart due to me REALLY not knowing what I'm doing, this video did help me learn my system starts up again if I don't have my system hinge opened all the way. I think this may be a sign for me to finally upgrade to a New 3DS model and at least now I can rest easy knowing I can access my system again!
I know this video is a couple of years old, but I'm dealing with the same issue with my limited edition Pokéball 2DS XL. I've been trying to find references all over the internet with little to no luck. Do you have any idea where I could find some? Or do you have a video for a 2DS XL?
Usually, assuming it's an unmodded 3DS, it's usually the cable for the speakers and 3D that breaks and causes this issue. The console will refuse to POST if the 3D cable is disconnected or broken. (It's the small cable on the top right of the motherboard.) Overtime, this cable will develop a tear when the console is opened and closed over several years.
I have a NES 3DS XL. I had the battery replaced, and everything was fine except some of the buttons were sticky. I decided to take it apart to get rid of the stickiness. Upon reassembly, the bottom screen was working, but the touch sensor wasn't working. I looked around for a bit to see if I found the ribbon cable for the touch sensor. I realized that I missed one, so I plugged it in, and upon reassembly again, it won't boot. I tried disconnecting things like the camera ribbon cable like mentioned in the video, but it still won't boot. Another thing to note here is that this board is different than the one showed in the video. This one has the infrared sensor soldered onto the board, and it was right where the ribbon cable I needed to plug in. Another note is that the ribbon cables that connect to the top half are in slightly different locations as well. On another note, I also have an original 3DS making the same popping sound as my 3DS XL. Maybe I'll try that with my original model.
Dude you saved my 3ds! I cant believe i had the balls to take it apart and remove the camera ribbon, the camera stopped working months ago so i figured that was the issue after watching this video. Thank you!! It works great now
lucky bastard, I just teared apart my New 3ds XL took me some time to figure out which where the camera ribbons, never done something like this befor putting it back together placing the bumper ribbons back was a nightmare, and I was blissfully hopeful... but no... it didnt work :(
Ok so I was at the beginning of the video when you said people said you have to blow in the microphone... I was like whatever let's try and my 3DS just magically turned on and worked perfectly! The problem actually was that I had this blue light that stayed... Well anyway saved me a lot of trouble 😂
This is likely due to a completely dead battery - I recommend that you try replacing it first before anything else. Edit: I'm assuming you tried charging it already and that was a no-go.
not only the XL Models.. also the n3ds models have similar issure ..Mine stopped working after i visited the hoospital and got near an x-ray machine.. i bet the magnetism of that machine destroyed the Magneitc switch inside the 3ds lid... it turns on but is in some kind of sleep mode..
I’m about to give up on a 3ds xl that has a steady blue light that never faids. I’ve already tested it without the camera and checked all the ribbon cables. It might be bricked...
Hey I have a question I’ve had my 3DS for years now I remember playing it as child unfortunately I damaged my system from water damage a long time ago and it’s probably been sitting for at least 4 years untouched is there even a possible way I can still save it?
Yep I’m here after replacing the battery thinking after looking inside and seeing how clean the ds was but nah I still have the same problems 😭😭 regular 3ds and not an xl but the more info the merrier. Thank you sir!
I'm having a similar problem with the first gen 3ds, tried disconnecting the camera to no avail, do this happen with the other parts of the 3ds like the mic or wifi adaptor? should I try disconnecting those?
so my 3ds has the blue light that stays on but the screens dont show anything i did what you did but nothing ...what ribbon did you leave unconnected ?
Strange! Is this specific 3DS new to you/Did you buy it second hand? Do you get any home screen music at all? Try holding one of the buttons (try all of them) while hitting the power button to try booting into normal 3DS boot mode. Just a hunch, but maybe the system is looking for an SD card with cfw settings on it; Homebrew launcher boot can be averted by forcing vanilla boot via button combo.
I had a 2DS with same issue. Power light (blue) comes on and off. Good batter, good LCD and was charging fine. I tried disconnecting the bluetooth and reseating all the cables. I sold it for parts. I wish I knew this video maybe I would have tried disconnecting the cameras cable.
Really nice video. I have a 3DS XL Zelda version pending to repair for a while now, and this video can really make the difference. In my case, my unit turns on correctly if you press power button with hinges almost closed. But if you turn it on with hinges in open position or open hinges once turned on, it shuts down and acts exactly likes yours. I thought it was lcd ribbon cable, but maybe I'm lucky and is just a camera issue like yours. I will try when I have time prior to buy any replacement. Maybe it's not needed! Thanks!
Hi, not sure if you'll see this but its worth asking. I have a similar problem with my 3ds xl. I removed the WIFI card and remounted it and when I went to test it, it worked! so I began to reassemble the system and once i did, i turned it on again and back to square one. I tried remounting the wifi card once more but unfortunately it didn't work this time. So i know for a fact its a WIFI card issue. Any suggestions?
I have a 3DS that won’t turn on. The screen will briefly flash and make a popping sound but then turn off immediately. I went on the Nintendo support site but unfortunately, they no longer make repairs on the model I have. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it??
My 3ds xl would make the blue light when turning it on and then it makes a popping sound as well and turns off and I did call a month ago and same thing they don’t do repair which sucks
Something similar to this happened years ago. I used to buy, repair ds lite consoles as a hobby and side gig. Once they're fixed, i would sell them on ebay. During my first time reshelling a pink ds lite into a aftermarket dialga and palkia shell. I was struggling with the wi-fi antenna cable. If you know, you know. So i was frustrated and gave up on the wi-fi cable and just carried on with reshelling. Once i was done i tried turning it on and it wouldn't. I dont remember if there was some specific xolor light to indicate that it couldn't turn on. I wasted a whole day takong it apart and putting it back to see if it would be fixed. At the end i said screw it and i tried installing the cable back on, because at that point i thought that if it didnt work, then i could practice reinserting that damn wi-fi cable. After like 10 tries i managed to do it and put it back together and out of habit i just activated the power slidr and it turned on! I was so happy that it worked now and then i put 2 and 2 together and figured it was my mistake with the cablw not being installed that caused it to not turn on. I looked it up onling after that and saw something about if the system doesnt detect all components, then it doesn't turn on to avoid damage. 😂 fucking wi-fi cable.
Are the L and R ribbon cables required to turn on the system? My L trigger is the only broken ribbon, and I hope that doesn't cause the console to also not power on.
I once repaired a 3DS from Ebay. It did not start. Power on, blue light, speaker pop sound. When disassembled, the analog component had rust on it. The analog was replaced and the console powered on and booted.
i realised one of my ribbon cables was torn in the top right. tho i cant figure out wich one it is and the video kinda helped but im still unable to identify what cable it is. its the one left of the right corner.
I have a similar problem , i opend the bottom part up to clean and put back everything back together as it should be, if i start now the blue light it stays on and i see the background is a light grey and nothing happens, any solutions?
My first 3DS XL would do this unless the folding screen was at a very specific orientation. I'm definitely having this kind of problem, but I haven't touched the system for so long that the battery began going spicy pillow, so now it waits patiently in my closet with no battery :(
I have a problem on my 3ds xl original. You see, when i turn my wireless cominucation button on the system yust crashes. It says an error has occurud . Sorry for bad english but do you kbow any of this? If you do please make a video about it.
Had this issue, and it's partial solved. A new issue arises with my console now, every time the ZL button is pressed, the =NEW= model, it will force my console to shut down. Any thoughts about that?
Mine N3dsxl has a different problem. When I connect the AC adapter in, the orange charging light goes on for about 5 seconds and then off. It doesn't turn on, doesn't even blink the Blue light. Any help on that?
I have one 3DS that only boots with a blue light and nothing more, the light stays on. So I will open the case and remove the camera connections with hopes of it being the solution. I also own a 3DS XL that will not charge or power up, I am thinking the battery should be replaced. Any thoughts?
My partner was trying to turn on my old 2ds because it literally wouldnt after updating Luma and its been like this for days and I swear I thought it was bizarre as well and made fun of the "blowing into the systems microphone to fix it" theory with him but he did it and it worked LOL. Ive genuinely tried everything else and nothing worked...
Sadly, trying out the Wi-Fi/IR card removal trick as well as detaching the camera ribbon cable did not work for me. Still a black screen with a solid blue light.
I did this but it still wont turn on but when i try turning it on it will make a weird sound and you see the screen go from grey to black and then its turned off i also have the blue light and just turns off sometimes it turns on and actually works but not for long because when i try flipping the top screen it makes the same weird sound and turns off anyone had the same problem or know a fix for this pls let me know good tutorial to
I know this video isn't exactly recent and for the regular 3DS xl, but I figured I might as well post a similar problem that I've been having here. So about a year ago I decided to open up my new 3DS xl which hadn't cut on in years and found that the solution at the time was pretty simple. I just had a ribbon cable that was disconnected and so I reconnected it and it worked like new. However not too long after I repaired in (a few weeks give or take) I started having problems again. I opened up the system and the ribbon cable that was causing the problem before is still connected, so I ruled out that the cable is the problem. The only sort of clue that I have to go off of with this problem is that whenever I try to power on the system the blue light stays on until reset and whenever I press down on the bottom right side of the system the battery light cuts on but only when the system is already on. I don't really expect this comment to go anywhere, but I figured I'd take my shot in the dark anyways. I would appreciate any suggestions if anyone has any idea what's wrong.
heya, i have a new 3ds xl that doesnt turn on and whenever i try to charge it, the yellow light turns off after 5 seconds. im struggling to find information on it. what should i do?
My 3ds xl hit the same problem and thanks to your video I got some kinda knowledge. So I just try my luck bending the screen up and down press both LR buttons until it power on again without opening the cover. Sometimes it boots, sometimes it off. So it is just trial and error. Something to do with that ribbon connection I guess. I know I cannot disassemble it because I am no expert in tinkering the hardware. So better don't spoil it.
I have an odd problem with my 3ds XL (original) it turns on and shows me a screen that's all white with a zoomed in box that says "home menu" on the bottom screen. If I push the home button or the box on the screen it doesn't take me to the main home menu. Do you think you can tell me what's wrong with it?
I have the same issue with my son's xl, I did find the ribbon cable for the camera had cracked, I did remove the camera but I still get the no boot symptom..... I was thinking about ordering a new camera to plug in to see if it would boot with a new camera but this video is saying it should work without?
I brought out my deceased son's console to finally give to his little brother now that he's old enough to take care of it. It worked a year after my son passed, but now it won't turn on. The blue light is steady, but no power up. I got a new battery and replaced with a new SD card. Still nothing. I am not confident to take it apart and mess with it. I'm actually a little heartbroken about it. 😢
am having a tough time with a pink 3ds xl.. I found this video to see if it would help, as excellent as it is, my fault is that the orange/red power led is on, and stays on but nothing happens on the screens. the light is constantly on, charging it makes both lights stay on. I removed the wifi board etc, powering on makes the wifi light flash and then that is it, the power light stays on but nothing on the screens, or sound. Theres no water damage either! so strange
My 3DS xl is the link between worlds one and I havnt messed with it in almost 2 years. Left it in case and essentially haven’t done anything with it. I went to show my kid the device and opened it up and the screen is damaged from the inside discolored and some cracks (under the main screen) I’m devastated and have no clue how that happened. I charged it up and now it won’t turn on. The difference in my situation amid that the blue light stays on but neither screen does anything. I have no clue what the problem is.
My 3ds' top screen has begun to streak discolor and flicker a bit. I love my DS and want to keep it (especially since they are being discontinued) but how do I repair it???
Hey man I'm having almost quite the same issue here, my 3ds xl won't turn on , if I plug it in it charges but the power button is on the side of the device and it won't even click properly I assume it could be the case it is pretty old and has a lot of treasure in it do you have any other suggestion?
I have the exact same 3DS with the same shell as yours with the same problem. I tried the camera cable and it didn’t work for mine. Oddly enough, I also have a red 3DS with a broken top screen. I am going to try to swap out the WiFi and IR boards to see if that fixes mine. Fingers crossed, if it works I won’t have to fix the broken screen on the red one.
Thumbs up for the video. Finally, have a time to fix my 3ds. Having for the blue light issues for few years, and finally got a time to fix. My fix was take out the battery and put back. Tada.. it works.. LOL.
I had the same problem, but the cameras were working at the front, not the back, and when I turned on the 3ds xl system without the camera, the same problem occurred, and the battery doesn't have any problem, IDK what's the problem, it could be the motherboard. any suggestions?
my nintendo dsi is having the same problem. When I disconnect the wifi card it stays with the blue light on but nothing appears on the screen. I do not know what to do
As someone who has a limited edition 3ds xl that has so much value inside of it, when the system stopped booting correctly i was devastated. It took nearly two years to find a correct solution and your video was the one. The hardest part about it was just getting inside to try this trick; one of the screws was stuck and stripped, so we ended up destroying the head. That took three hours. The fix? Five minutes. I couldn't believe it when it turned on.

Same thing pretty much happened to my 2DS when my screen broke. I ended up stealing the ribbon cable from my sisters broken 2DS. Shhhhhhh...
So true... same here. Well i tried to fix a DSi. Let’s say the top screen was dead after i tried! 😞
@@onasazi I once replaced a DSi screen too, and afterwards, the Cameras wouldn't work anymore. I couldn't push myself to open it up again.
@@haleman1704 it doesn’t need the camera to play games... unless... 😂
@@onasazi I know... Still want it to be fully functional, since it is my 2009 DSi from that time :/ oh well
@haleman1704 In response to your original comment: A more true statement has never been spoken. These things are literally a nightmare to work on. Hence this one sitting for over a year. 😅 Thank you guys for watching!
What an adventure! Awesome you got it working. I actually gave up on a 3DS a while back haha
Thank you so much, and I'm glad my video helped you! 😊
My 3ds had the same problem but i fixed it by taking out the sd card and putting it back in again
u saved my life ty
bro thanks so much mine wouldn’t charge and wouldn’t turn on unless the power cable was inserted but this worked
thank you so much!
Bro tysm
Where is the sd card located?
THANK YOU. My new3ds XL suddenly stopped working (only the orange charging LED was on). For several days I took it apart and put it back together many times, testing all the methods I found on the Internet - with no result, I almost gave up - unplugging the camera shown in your video solved the problem - it's like new again - THANK YOU.
i have never opened a 3ds before. absolutely teriffying. thank you for being my emotional support during this hard journey.
It's what I do. 😎👍🏻
@@KyleAwsmI have a prob where my 3ds isn't getting charged, the orange color shows up and then vanish in 2-3 sec , what should I do ?
I haven’t used or touched it for almost 6 years, and I tried purchasing charger and charged it, it opened but for a few seconds, it just suddenly turned off. Can ya’ll help me 😫
It will probably work if you open it laptop style instead of opening the top screen all the way. I had the same problem and when I fully extend my 3ds it shuts off. If I open it 90 degrees it works fine. Might be a pain to play on though but I've grown accustomed to it.
Well I purchased a charger and it did not work there was no light.
@@avi71229 I tried booting it at a 90 degree angle like you said and it booted like nothing. Wtf bro
I have the same problem, it could be a booting file missing really, you have to insert that file in the sd card. Be aware that i still have a lot to learn so in case you could see a discord server all about Nintendo consoles
Frrr
You’re a total life saver! I was having the same issue with finding a lack of answers online, thanks so much!
Thanks for the video - Your diagnostic process for the camera ribbon cable led to me finding a TINY hair in the ZIF connector. Cheers!
Fortunately, i didnt have to disconnect anything from the mainboard, but just by pressing on the case around the camera etc. i could get it back up and running! thank you so much for your time and effort!
This was the one that I search as well. Good tutorial, explaination are clear enough. Thank you brother. Now I will consider to revive my old 3ds xl.
I have the same problem
Did you try new battery??
sorry im 3 years late haha, make sure the cable is clean and if it still doesnt work, replace it.
Dude you saved me❤❤ I been looking for a solution the whole afternoon
@@kazmaBlends I'm glad I was able to help you m8 😁
As an advice, I'd recommend you to make a backup of your firmware and all your SD card, because it's not weird that a SD card that you've been using and playing with it all the day without issues on your 3DS console, you turn the console off and then back on again, and the data got corrupted or the whole card gets damaged, and now you have a nice paperweight to prevent your tissues to blow away while crying 😅😅
I made a backup of my NDSL, DSi, 3Ds and New 3Ds firmware (including NDS and DSi firmwares inside of 3DS consoles) to prevent damages, since if you play a homebrew that is a virus for the NDS console, it will affect on your DSi and 3DS consoles, on NDS compatibility mode (you won't be able to use NDS features).
@@KyleAwsm This is correct, I fixed 3/4 DSi's from a lot I bought because the screen ribbons weren't fully inserted.
My 3DS XL turns off immediately if I fully open the top screen. Tried leaving the camera ribbon disconnected but it didn't work. What can I do to keep my console from turning off?
You had to replace 3d/speeker ribbon cable.
Sounds like your screen ribbon cable is just barely unseated. Try completely reseating that cable
Thanks, you saved my son's 3ds that had the same problem. I pulled the camera ribbon and it now works again!

Great tutorial. Easy to understand and follow. However, mine still doesnt work. Probably mine has diff issue

It turned it on
It has managed to turn itself off again by itself and no longer turns on :/
I did the tutorial, but my 3ds XL still won't turn on.
I did try booting up to gm9 or luma but I couldn't boot up into any of them.
Honestly, I would send it. These systems are holding their value nowadays, so I believe that it would make the most sense to.
I fixed the issue the console not shutoff but when i turn it on its black screen and no sound ? Any idea ?
I THOUGHT MY 3DS WAS DONE FOR TAKING OUT THE CARD AND GAME CARTRIDGE WORKED TYSMMMMMMM
LOL I was watching the video and it turned on by itself while I was watching it!
Finished the vid tho, thanks for the information! XD
I know this video is a couple of years old, but I'm dealing with the same issue with my limited edition Pokéball 2DS XL. I've been trying to find references all over the internet with little to no luck. Do you have any idea where I could find some? Or do you have a video for a 2DS XL?
Thank you so much! This has helped me fix the Christmas presents I got and I have had a fun day of playing!
my 3ds doesn't turn on, and it's light doesn't turn on, no blue or anything.
It doesn't even show the charging light or anything at all
Usually, assuming it's an unmodded 3DS, it's usually the cable for the speakers and 3D that breaks and causes this issue.
Thank you!! It works great now
Just for clarity as my 3ds is also facing the same issue ...we only have to remove the camera ribbon from the top half of the 3ds right??
Thank you soooo much! I gave up on my Nintendo 3ds before over 6 months.
lucky bastard, I just teared apart my New 3ds XL took me some time to figure out which where the camera ribbons, never done something like this befor putting it back together placing the bumper ribbons back was a nightmare, and I was blissfully hopeful... but no... it didnt work :(
Ok so I was at the beginning of the video when you said people said you have to blow in the microphone... I was like whatever let's try and my 3DS just magically turned on and worked perfectly! The problem actually was that I had this blue light that stayed... Well anyway saved me a lot of trouble 😂
I have a regular 3DS ive had it since release and its been unused since 2016 and doesnt power on, doesnt even show the orange blue or red light
Mine doesn’t light up at all. Does it have to do with the battery ?
Hey I have the new nintendo 3ds with a similar issue. When I turn it on, I can hear music but the screens do not turn on. What do I do?
Yep I’m here after replacing the battery thinking after looking inside and seeing how clean the ds was but nah I still have the same problems 😭😭 regular 3ds and not an xl but the more info the merrier. Thank you sir!
I'm having a similar problem with the first gen 3ds, tried disconnecting the camera to no avail, do this happen with the other parts of the 3ds like the mic or wifi adaptor? should I try disconnecting those?
I have a similar problem with the normal 3ds that charges but does not come on. Any help and fixes would be great 👍
so my 3ds has the blue light that stays on but the screens dont show anything i did what you did but nothing ...what ribbon did you leave unconnected ?
Is your system by chance running custom firmware? If so, people have said a misconfiguration on the SD card causes this.
@@KyleAwsm i checked the sd card and i didnt find any cfw and i disconnected the camera ribbon under the 3ds and sound ribbion
I know that feeling of regret all too well.... I'm with ya! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
What were the tools you used to actually mess with it
Really nice video. Thanks!
Did you manage to repair it using the video?

Mine is having the same problem, but it also has a cracked hinge. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. Also it pops when it turns off.
Mine does the exact same thing I’m so lost 😭
1:40 okay I’m sorry but I JUST BLOWED INTO MY 3DS AND IT FINALLY TURNED ON AFTER TRYING TO TURN IT ON ALL DAY WHATTT 😭😭
I once repaired a 3DS from Ebay. It did not start. Power on, blue light, speaker pop sound. When disassembled, the analog component had rust on it. The analog was replaced and the console powered on and booted.
i realised one of my ribbon cables was torn in the top right. tho i cant figure out wich one it is and the video kinda helped but im still unable to identify what cable it is. its the one left of the right corner.
left - 3d/speeker(yellow colour), right - 3d camera(black colour). Same issue if torn one of them
Hey it’s 2023 and I just used this tutorial to fix my 10 year old 3Ds xl thank you so much for this.

You’re awesome!!! It worked!! Try reinserting the camera cable it may work after start up.
I'll try
My first 3DS XL would do this unless the folding screen was at a very specific orientation. I'm definitely having this kind of problem, but I haven't touched the system for so long that the battery began going spicy pillow, so now it waits patiently in my closet with no battery :(
Does this also work for a new nintendo 3ds XL? Cuz I have one that has the same problem
I have a problem on my 3ds xl original. You see, when i turn my wireless cominucation button on the system yust crashes. It says an error has occurud . Sorry for bad english but do you kbow any of this? If you do please make a video about it.

@@KyleAwsm i tried it and it worked thank you so much!!!!
Yesterday I also updated Luma, my 3DS doesn't turn on, I tried EVERYTHING and I can't get my 3DS to turn on, what should I do?
My problem is that no lights would turn on but 2 nights ago everything worked but when I tried charging it for a while nothing worked
Yoooo if you punt it into a wall after removing the game card it works!!!
Please feel free to reach out to me @KyleAwsm on Instagram. I would love you help you with this however I can. I'm so sorry for your loss...
am having a tough time with a pink 3ds xl..
Fingers crossed, if it works I won’t have to fix the broken screen on the red one.
this is really helpful ive been trying to fix my 3ds xl from ages and this video finally helped me
Dumb question but what size screwdriver did you use to open the system, I can't find one the right size anywhere
Idk what to do, When I charge it has the orange light for a few seconds then goes out while the charging it won't turn on
could it also happen that this problem also happens if there arent any speakers on the ribboncable
would this work for 2ds makig poping sounds too?
my nintendo dsi is having the same problem. When I disconnect the wifi card it stays with the blue light on but nothing appears on the screen. I do not know what to do
