Something I barely glossed over in this video is WHY you separate the plastics from metals during cleaning. Depending on who you ask and what articles you find online, you'll hear that vinegar can/can't damage ABS and other plastics. In my experience, it can cause the plastic's color to fade if left to soak (and for too long). So, while you do need the vinegar to neutralize the battery "acid", try not to soak plastic parts IN vinegar if you can help it, and always clean up the residue with IPA. Thanks for watching, everyone! 🙂👍🏻
I have a Pokemon emerald cartridge that Drains a cr 1616 battery in 24-48 hrs, I've already burned through 4 batteries and I don't know what it could be, anyway you might be able to give guidance? Thanks in advance.
high concentration alcohol can damage *some* plastics as well. It's relatively rare that it happens but I usually keep alcohol away from plastics just to be sure.
Oh my god thank you! My dad gave me his old gameboy Advance and I really wanted to use it since I just got all 5 of the Gameboy Advance Pokemon games for it but the batteries leaked and I thought it was permanently broken!
Kyle, I have just started my ''(retro) gaming fixing'' hobby. and your videos have been awesome! So thanks :) good and clear information without fluff is harder and harder to come by these days.
Thanks! Your video is the only one showing the battery terminal and what it looks like at 3:00 into the video. I could not get mine out. I finally did and found out why it would not come out as the center metal clip was bent down. Again, thanks for your video.
Hey! Your videos are awesome, and thank you for making what you do. This helped me clean out my old gameboy advance! On another topic, I'm pretty sure I have purchased a restored purple gameboy color and pokemon silver from you. If so, you are literally one of the most awesome people ever, literally perfect console and game. Childhood memories I bought back and couldn't be happier with the condition on it.
Thank you so much! 😊 And awesome - I think I remember packing that order! Thank you for supporting me and what I do here, and thank you for watching! 🙂
It’s why I use NiMH in my gameboys now. Less likely to leak. Lost a lot of flashlights though....those are harder to clean due to the nature of cylindrical shape.
I just found your channel and started looking through stuff. Found it funny how in the last video I watched about replacing GB cart batteries, it was "my girlfriend's copy of Zelda" 😂
Nice job and learning something new i didnt know. And in my case when i shopping a little bit expensive batteries so they have always leak but now im go for cheap bigpacks batteries for years now in all my rc cars and have never leaking
Tysm! I recently got a Catchphrase game at a garage sale, and when I opened it to replace the batteries, they had leaked. Apparently they were from March 2013- This was super helpful to me :]
Great video as always love the detailed instructions, attention to detail, and work you put into every video. I will have to give these methods mentioned in your video a try for sure. Can you only use white vinegar or is it more or less a recommendation? Would you be able to use other types of vinegar?
Thanks so much, man! 😊 Distilled white vinegar is pretty safe compared to other types of vinegar, like red wine vinegar, etc. The latter can actually be even more damaging to plastics. So since distilled white vinegar is so inexpensive, and it's tried and true for this kind of work, it's usually the safe bet. Thanks so much for watching, brother! 😎👍🏻
Hi, your videos are awesome. I see you use IPA to clean those flux and pcb board. Is it possible to use ethanol absolute do the same thing as IPA? Cause I can easily get high concentration alcohol at chemist's shop (compared to IPA).
Yup, it should be just fine to use ethanol/ethyl alcohol as a cleaning solvent for PCB's. Just make sure you wear gloves, or it could dry out your hands. Thanks for watching!
Ok this is completely off topic from the video but I have been watching your channel for a while and stumbled upon a video on how to give a save battery to fake Pokémon games I have a fake emerald that seems to be different from the ones you went over is there any way you could maybe look at my copy through a picture on social media and tell me if I could mod it if that works that would be greatly appreciated but if not don’t worry it’s all good

Feel free to send me a message on Instagram @kyleawsm and send me some pictures of the PCB. Cheers!

Good job! I like the attention to detail with cleaning the work space. A lot of people seem to forget that important step.

Thanks you for a in depth tutorial! Thom deserve more views

Great video!! Such a thorough explanation, really great
Me: 2011 wasn't that long ago was it?
Kyle: These batteries are over a decade old 😧
Tell me again, why am I turning 30 this year???? 😂😭
Great video/content Kyle! Video quality 10/10 !

What's that little dropper thing you used for the isopropyl? That looks pretty handy.
Where did you get your workspace mat? Also 100% Lemon Juice works well too.

Interesting! I have some remotes that have this situation! I dabble in electronic repairs!

Hey buddy I'm that ark bus driver you got today
Hey! Thanks man, and glad to see you here!
@@KyleAwsm thank you sir for referring me here :) from what I've seen we seem to get into the same things man
00:04 - I thought you replaced the Zelda battery before, unless it’s different cartridge.
Yup, same cart, just odd video timing. 🙂 Have had this one on-deck for a while.
Fun fact - if you take a drink of your favourite alcoholic beverage every time Kyle says “battery leakage” you will be very drunk 🤪😆😆😆

@@KyleAwsm omg, that scene was funny 🤣

2:07 - is it better to use plastic tools here?
