Hey Elliot, good job on the power button, shame you couldn't get the 3D slider working. Looking forward to the revisit, fingers crossed you will get it next time :-) Cheers for the mention, it is nice to watch a 'trying to fix' video rather than filming one so I look forward to hopefully seeing more from you. Take it easy. Vince :-)

I remember just before Christmas, my old og 3DS wouldn't charge. I wanted to give it to my older brother for Christmas, so I took it apart, learned how to gut the system, found out the problem (charger port broke off), resoldered the charger port, had to take apart the system 2 or 3 more times due to forgetting to plug stuff in, then finally got the thing to work. There's so many little ribbon cables that make the 3DS unusable if you forget just one. They're a pain to work on.

Sounds like a ribbon problem, the ds line is notorious for that. Removing the ribbon from the hinge hole will require a tedious amount of work that can go south very fast is you aren't super careful. I recently had to do this for an og 3ds that I gave to my sister and it was a huge pain.

Why you didn't change Region with ctrnand transfer

    • @CTR_SimonMK7
      @CTR_SimonMK7 4 роки тому

@@jayr6854 This is because, at the time, I didn't have any need to do so, as I bought the Japanese units for the design rather than for Custom firmware. nowadays if I want to use my systems for homebrew or custom firmware, I have an additional separate unit specifically for that purpose as well as a RED-DEV Panda Unit that I use for when I want to test a couple applications on it. personally, I've never had a need to change the region of the console when the FBI launcher and LumaLocalSwitcher are already sufficient enough for people to use when changing the applications region. As for this video specifically, I also said this because at the time, not that many people were doing disassembly videos for the N3DS Model and only the XL model. probably because these units weren't made as much as the XL units. I hope that answers your question.

I took it apart and got most of it put back together but now it doesn’t turn on at all. The bottom screen just flashes white quickly on start up and then it turns off. 😕 May I could send it your way and you could fix it up? 😂😉

I don't own new 3DS, but I guess that 3D slider is linear potentiometer. So for troubleshooting it you should check the resistance on it, than change position of slider and check it again. If resistance is changing according, then the problem is in ribbon cable. If not then you should try replacing it with any pot (same resistance) to see if it works, that may help you. Love you work. Keep it up!

Hey, you might be able to get some system savedata from another console and put it on the internal storage. You'd need to use "ntrboot," which is a hack using a DS flashcart, a magnet (to simulate a closed lid state) as well as a button combination. You insert the cart, put the magnet in the spot where it turns the screen off in the regular OS, power off, hold button combination (start + select + x) and it'll boot into custom software. From there, you should be able to transfer across some system savedata (might need a bit of messing around) this would get you passed the initial screen, at the very least. So, if you don't end up getting the slider to work in the end for whatever reason, this is totally an option.

I might be wrong but I want to recall there being issues with 3d slider when people have messed around with FW, downgrading, upgrading and messing about making hybrid FW that can run newer games but being lower and etc.
it might not be a hardware issue. guess you could measure it with a multimeter? both right at the slider and if you can trace the pins back to the motherboard measure them there too.

Question, i just bought a refurbished NEW 3ds galaxy edition from nintendo and the console is flawless the only thing i noticed was there are small dents on the bottom part of the LCD touch screen, i have 1 year warranty. I contacted nintendo but its such a pain to talk to someone because they are always busy, i should be able to let them know and they could replace the bottom LCD? thoughts?

I love to imagine what this community will be like in 20 years. You've already fixed up DS, DSi, and 3DS, so you're already getting into my future vision
(Also I don't really like the new 3DS tbh. Who puts the card slot on the bottom of a DS???)

Hey what did you do with the power button? Did you just take it apart and put it back in again? I currently have a similar problem

Did you make a video on how to repair this type of problem on the New 3ds XL:
Idk if people call it the ‘Black screen of death’ or Softbrick, but the lights turn on, but both screen sometimes do not.

I had a similar issue with the 3d and my slider not working. Basically when putting the 3ds main motherboard back together I didn't align the flex cable for the audio/3d perfectly. There was some debris on the contact which I am sure was also an issue. After I removed the debris, carefully, and triple checked the alignment was perfect my 3d and slider worked again. Had nothing to do with the slider itself.

Could you by chance do an update on your handheld collection? I just started mine

I have that same model of 3ds, and the rubbery part of the joystick came out half a year ago. Glueing it doesn’t really work, it comes out after a week or so, so sometimes I play without it. I thought about changing the whole joystick myself (it still works, but it’s not optimal playing like this), but seeing all those little pieces, screws and cables I’m quite scared. Doesn’t look like something I can repair, hahah...

Good job on this one! I hate, hate, repairing DS, broke two already even if extra carefull and it seem 3DS is even worst to deal with. I'll stick to GBA and GB repair haha!

Just as an idea, might it be a problem with where the ribbon with the 3D slider connects to the board? Like it could be not say square in the connector, so it wouldn't affect sound but there's a poor or even crossed signal for the 3D?

Love the videos! The system and faceplates aren't really rare. The faceplates to my knowledge wasn't released to other countries and etc. Amazon, and maybe eBay are the only way to grab the faceplates.
You can change the region of the system by modding it.

Hi! Do you have a channel to repair Nintendo 2ds? I have a 2ds that gives the charge led but the battery doesn't charge. I measured the 3 pins and noticed differences between another console that charges and one that doesn't

Hello Elliot! Love your videos! Was wondering though, have you ever heard of any ds lite systems not go to next step during the setup faze, meaning after set the clock your I’d or color selection and date , then it powers down turn back on to play games but it continues to go back to the setup screen over and over, any answer to this problem? Thanks

Hi, thanks for the video. I had a similar issue with the Y button so that I cleaned up the contact. After pluging back the daughter board and making sure connecting ribbons was well seated, I could not turn on the 3DS... I tested both power fuses and they are OK. I do not have the blue LED on either but orange LED for charging is OK. Owning a second 3DS, I swapped daughter boards to figure out the problem. Same issue for both 3DS. I swapped daughter boards back and now I can't turn them both on... I guess there is a security mode or whatever... Anything to test???
