- I Bought 12 BROKEN Nintendo 3DS's - Can I Fix Them? I bought 9 3DS handhelds and 3 3DS XLs on eBay for $425. They were sold as a parts or repair lot but the listing said some of them were untested. Once I started testing them I did find a few that were already working correctly... and a bunch that needed repaired. To get these fixed I fixed sticky buttons, replaced a lower screen, removed parental controls, replaced an R button, fixed a camera lens, replaced a top screen protector, reconnected a ribbon cable to fix an on/off issue, and replaced a wifi module. After subtracting selling and shipping costs I'm expecting to make about $21 each when I sell these repaired 3DS's.

About This Video: I'm fixing 12 3DS handhelds (3 XLs and 9 regular). There were a number of them that were already working correctly but for the rest I did a lot of replacing (R button, camera lens, top screen protector, lower screen, wifi module) and also fixed some sticky buttons, removed parental controls, and fixed one with the on/off problem. The numbers are looking good though and I'm hoping to make a decent profit.
Can you believe how many were fixable? Was the NES 3DS XL your favorite? It was definitely mine!
TronicsFix whats the profit?
Nice. I don't know if I had gotten in touch with you before but have you fixed one where you needed to replace the zif/socket connectors on the board? Because I need 3 repaired which I have the replacement parts but don't know how to solder.
You could make this a "challange" series start of with $1000 and see if you can turn a profit then give the profit to charity or keep it... I dont care but the one rule is you have to "cost" everything including tools and parts from that starting seed money and profit
I have a 3ds XL (red) that has its top screen broken and the cameras dont work either
it broke like 4/5 years ago when i dropped it but oh well
The XL was my favourite one. About those faded stickers glue halos, have you tried using a wet magic eraser? It should be the equivalent of 3200 grit sand paper.

TronicsFix: Buys 12 untested 3DSs, gets 11 that work, with minor or no problems.
Average person: Buys 12 untested 3DSs, gets 12 completely fried units and is lucky if there are parts enough to make a single working one.

The 35 year old Commodore 64 I restored starting back in October was worse than any of these. It actually made my hands itch to touch it. I was cringing heavily. But after I took the motherboard and keyboard out and gave the case a bath it looks brand new almost no yellowing at all. Then I had to take the keyboard apart and clean each key individually wash the motherboard with IPA. Now everything looks practically new. Many of these old computers have the ground traces all wavy. Not mine. That board looks brand new except for the areas I swapped out the ram chips and capacitors. And it works really good too. I have a 16GB flash drive hooked up to it via a special part with tons of games on it.

You know someone used that 3DS when there’s Dinosaur Office on the home menu.

I lost my New Nintendo 3DS XL to a bad wifi module, and the repairman told me it was integrated and irreparable. Spent quite a lot of money (about a 3rd or a base monthly salary) while on college trying to fix it to no avail. Lost many save files and access to my Nintendo Account. I pretty much gave it away some time ago and still miss it.
I love watching People Fix Stuff like this , Its One Of those Oddly Satisfying things. You do A great job

Are these already sold??? I looked on the website and couldn't find any.
Not sure why but I also totally enjoy watching seeing them get fixed instead of the gabarge!

TronicsFix: fixes R button
Me: I so needed to learn this years ago
Besides water damage, I find that the older nintendo handhelds and systems can take quite a beating and still work.
Usually if someone says an older nintendo handheld or system is untested it will work in my experience.
I'm a computer sciences and engineering student and tbh never knew what I wanted to do in life, and lately I've been stuck between further going into programming or just working with fixing stuff, and honestly so far I love anything that has to do with fixing systems and just watching all these in youtube confirms to me that this is what I wanna do, even if it doesn't really pay off at the end.

some of them, the one with the stickers and the Zelda edition, just seemed like they gave someone a good childhood
I think the one with the top cover that was made of glass and broke may be actually one of the very first models that was made, maybe Nintendo began making glass top covers, and realized how difficult it would be to remove them in order to repair the top screen, so they changed the cover to plastic instead
When the ps5 comes out do a video of u overheating it i want to see how long it lasts
I might do that.
he did it
When I had a 3DS when I was younger, the hinge on the right broke off (started cracking as I used the console a lot, crack got worse and eventually the whole hinge came off). I wanted to take it to a repair specialist, but my dad thought he could fix it himself. Something came off, so how does he get it back on? Using superglue. He superglued the hinge back to the main body, and then superglued around the hinge "for good measure". He ended up superglueing the whole lid shut. He realised his mistake and tried to open up the 3DS again, which he did. By ripping off the whole top screen.
I still remember the sadness as he handed me back my two 3DS halves. Maybe I should have kept hold of it and sent it to you lol

Yes Steve, our favorite part is taking them apart.
these are one of my favourite videos on this channel, and dont worry, we enjoy you taking stuff apart and fixing them like a professional, thats why we are here :D
the random item repairs like the toys you repaired are also great because you tackle them in such a professional manner, it satisfies me seeing you doing the repair just right :D
greetings from germany btw ^^
Great job. Very nice!
I love Wiha. I bought a little tool set, and a little ball-shaped driver handle, for these little bits, off of Amazon a couple years ago... by accident, really, but then I really liked them. I use them to take apart little pocketknives & stuff, and fix them....
Your channel really speaks to us repair freaks, what can I say. You have actually inspired me to try fixing stuff I have no idea about.... So far so good really, I have fixed some stuff I really had no business fixing... Probably got lucky in a few cases, but I'll take it....
I think I mostly get satisfaction from watching someone restore something that was once considered trash by somebody, to it's former glory, You do awesome work man, keep it up :D
After watching your videos, I became somewhat a DIY electronics fixer myself. I don't always win, but so far I've saved myself and my family at least $150. Totes worth it. Thank you!
DS top screens are the pits to work on. I pick up quite a few NDS originals dirt cheap and replace the housings/fix the hinges quite regularly and they’re such bloody tricky things. That specific twist in the ribbon cable that feeds through the hinge is the bane of my existence!
I enjoy your vids so much it makes me want to do something productive, I actually genuinely want to take classes for this. sadly i live in the boonies..and going to a city would cost me so much! anyways great job as always ! never stop!
Thanks so much for your comment! So glad you're enjoying these!
You inspired me to buy a electronic tool repair kit and explore my electronics. I fixed my xbox controller that wasn't able to sync just by watching your videos and looking for anything suspicious in the actual controller. I 'm now planning to replace my battery in my old phone so I will have a back up.
This video is Gold .👍 you earned it. I have 2 broken 3ds at home.

@@Tronicsfix Maby he should have you fix it for him. That would make for a nice UA-cam video .

Takin' 'em apart is my favorite too!
Good to know it's not just me!
Excellent! My recommendation on removing the stickers - I wouldn't use a spudger as it will scratch the plastic case. I would soak in IPA and rub with paper towel. It takes longer (sometimes much longer), but you end up with no scratches then.
Usually I would do that. Since this one was not in good condition and had lots of scratches already I wasn't worried about it. As far as I can tell it didn't actually leave any though.
Always get a mini jump scare when I see that smile in the thumbnail
Ha, ha...thanks...I think!

just wanted to say thank you for your vids. I learned to not be overly anxious and replace parts when there is an issue, and to be real smart about assessing what I am looking at. Was able to fix thumbstick drift by just tweaking a few pins!
the 3ds isn't dead
Does anyone else think the original 3DS design is way more attractive and "techie" looking than the newer 3DS? I love the sleek design, the black gloss on the top screen, and the green "3d" light. Even the switch to turn on and off the wifi is fancy and just makes it feel like a more feature-rich gadget.
This is my favorite system! I’ve loved portable Nintendo systems since the Original Game Boy! Nice video
Loved the original Game Boy!
Please include your cleaning too! It's such an important part of the ASMR of your videos
I love all your videos. Please never stop. Thank you.
I appreciate that! Glad you're enjoying them.
I have never had any luck fixing any 3ds. The 2ds brick one is where I shine.
eBay's and PayPal's combined fees alone are probably around that $8.45, not to mention around $4 shipping, although I do know it's possible to get them down a bit lower... Also gotta keep in mind the fact that 100% of the time, eBay favors buyers in disputes/returns, which will probably add at least few bucks, on average, to each unit sold.
I think the saying is "The best tools are the ones you have" - so I can't really say since I haven't used that many tools, but I really like my iFixIt Mako driver kit. It's a screwdriver plus a flexible extender with a bunch of different bits, some of which I didn't even know existed until I saw them in the kit. I mostly use the philips (I mean, it's probably the most widespread screw head type) and torx bits, but the tri-point and game bits are useful for opening up older consoles and cartridges.
Is no one talking about the blue 3ds with the bad camera that is like turning black or something
That's just one of the color options for the 3DS.
@@huggable2 I know but that 3ds has way more black than usual.
My favorite is when he turns it on and its working fine. It gives me such pleasure. Im always rooting for that.
Are you gonna start fixing or attempting to fix broken switch lites?
As soon as I can get my hands on several broken ones I'll make a video about it.
If you have issues with the wifi card, turn off the wifi / local connection switch on the right side of the 3ds it allows you to play and use the ds, just without wifi.

The NES edition fix makes me so happy. Not quite the Nintendo person I was when I was little, but that thing looks SO nice.
The best Nintendo I've ever owned you should try Wii next? or has that already been done? good video
Haven't done Wii but I might.
could be easier to fix because of bigger components or is that not the case ?🤔
I've actually only done a few repairs on them but I think most common problems on them aren't too hard to fix.
Problem with Wii consoles is they're so cheap that there's basically no value in repairing them at the moment - other than purely for a video of course.
TronicsFix I see, look forward to you fixing next generation consoles💪🏻
I appreciate you sharing costs and margins. I love watching these electronic repairs videos. You've warned a new subscriber. Cheers
14:18 perfect transition lol
I'm a geeky fella, who is fascinated by all these fix and repair jobs. Nice work!
Careful with “untested” lots. I know a guy that sells these and when he gets returns he saves them until he gets enough to sell as a bundle and just mark as “untested” when in fact they are faulty, just barely though like a small spot on the screen that is dead as far as touch function does not work. Specific spots. But I’m sure you could fix those anyways
Well I'm sure TronicFix shower those indeed, or on other systems or items, but yeah, a dead touch screen or even a dead/damaged screen on a DS/3DS is basically Level 101 fixing ;)
A dead cart port tho, that's a more tricky thing, though not for TronicFix but for most people without the proper tools... Like me. 8 bits stuff? 16 bits stuff? Can do. SMD soldering? can't do that yet.
Work in the cellphone repair business and Wiha Picofinish are absolutely the best screwdrivers, been using them for four years, and excepts from looking like new I have way less stipped screws and it almost never slips over the screw.
Yes...that's what I've noticed...they rarely slip on the screws. Such nice drivers.
Me: I think I'd like this kind of work.

Can you do a video where you go through the entire process of just fixing one product. Like for example instead fixing 20 switches just fix one switch and go through everything you do to get the switch to resale condition. This would be great because we would get to see everything you do all the testing, cleaning etc. And it might even help people who want to try buying broken products and reselling them fixed.
