401, you have no idea how incredibly grateful I am that you decided to share this embarrassing story. There are many good guys out there who are "wanna-be's" and even though well-intentioned, their enthusiasm leads them to make dangerous mistakes. This is the kind of story that will hit home with so many of us and remind us to do our jobs as armed civilians, but also reminds us to let the cops do their job, too. I'm so thankful this situation turned out well for all parties. I'm extremely surprised that the cops let the veteran go without even getting his information. The last thing dispatch heard was that he had a gun and then the line disconnected. How in the WORLD could they let ANYONE leave the scene after getting that information?

Uhhh, why the hell would a middle eastern immigrant want to move to a “small town” USA? SEEMS like someone’s trying to get this young man killed lol. Young man if you’re reading this, everything you said was admirable and although I’m not the biggest fan of cops I respect the percentage that are “good”. I’d strongly advise that you try different environments out before settling down here in the USA, in my experience I’ve dealt with more hate and vitriol from small towns who aren’t used to “different” people for example people who don’t look/live like them. Now this is not to say big cities don’t have issues but they tend to be more of a bigger mix of cultural backgrounds which naturally you’ll find people are more accepting of foreigners, you may find foods from back home, people you have common interests with etc. Idk if you pay attention but a middle easterner moving to let’s say a small town in the Tennessee mountains , May set off some alarms for the locals a lot of these people have some not so nice feelings toward foreigners and if you happen to be of Muslim faith ( not assuming that you are) I urge you to do tons of homework on the hate crime stats of the particular area you’d like to go. Some idiot is going to argue about what I said here but it’s just another side of the coin the uglier potential truth, everything ain’t sunshine and pretty girls here sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.( I hope you understand that phrase but if not google can help you out)

Driving a truck cross country I learned not to bother calling in suspected drunk drivers unless it was a coordinated effort so multiple calls would be made by different people.
First time I had a weapon pointed at me was on Interstate 8 in southern Arizona near Yuma. I passed another truck and a pickup truck was delayed about 5 seconds. He pulled up next to me, reached under his seat and got a handgun and started waving at me. I attempted multiple times to call 911 but the call was answered by a FAX MACHINE!! He stayed directly next to my steer tire for several miles and then he was gone.

One night he stopped a car with no lights on and the driver put a revolver to my Dad's face and pulled the trigger before roaring away. When the bloke was caught the pistol was examined and was fully functional. For some reason that round didn't fire as the others did when it was tested. He then transferred to another Constabulary.

I am a Taxicab Driver by trade. I have had guns, knives, whips, chains and all sorts of weapons pulled on me. Thankfully I had a Safety Barrier in the car. It was just over a half inch thick Plexiglas. Had 1 guy get into my Taxi(front doors were always locked) while I was off duty and he pulled out a gun and cocked it. Well I knew that by the sound of the gun that it was not cared for. I heard it grinding as he cocked it. A grinding gun while being cocked is a DANGEROUS weapon to the user of it. I knew if he pulled the trigger, he would be well suited for an ER than anything else. So all I did was flip a switch that flashed the former police lights that my 'vic had and went reckless with driving. FINALLY a cop pulls me over and the guy in the back had 49 warrants out for him. Well the 1 cop thanked me for being an idiot until he realized that my car WAS his former patrol car(you could see the "ghosting" of the police department decals and unit number on it). He offered me $7,500 CAD for the car right then and there while his partner did the arrest procedure. Didn't sell my car at all. Never got charged with reckless driving. I still wonder why.
