      Only when the driver with the “thin red line” sticker thinks it should keep them from getting pulled over. Volunteer, Career, Paid on Call, doesn’t matter. Red Line, Blue Line, Yellow Line, or Fraternal Order of Police is good, but keep in mind, the public sees you, the sticker, and your driving violation, they will see it and make everyone they know aware of it.

    My 5 pet peeves of driving.
    1. No turn signals
    2. Hoging left lane on a multi lane road
    3. Bumper humpers
    4. Texting or phone use
    5. Using your turn signals at the last second after slamming on your brakes to make a left turn

    • @victoreous626

      Driving with your high beams on and not responding to others flashing their high beams is my fav......

    • @grizzlygrizzle
      @grizzlygrizzle 4 роки тому +1

      A pretty good list, though I'd elaborate a bit. Tailgaters who tailgate the people who are NOT the ones hogging the left lane are idiots. I don't believe in tailgating, but it's a little more understandable when it's the person behind a left-lane hog. It's especially stupid to tailgate someone in a line of cars waiting for the left lane hog to move over, someone who is just as eager for the douchebag at the front to move over.
      -- I agree about the last-minute use of turn signals. There is a road I commute on regularly, an undivided 4-lane sort-of-parkway in a city with lots of lights on it without green arrows. I can't believe the number of people who pull up to a red light in the left lane who haven't signalled their intention to make a left turn as they approach the light, which would help the drivers behind know to use the right lane if they don't want to wait through the whole light cycle. And some will wait until the light turns green before they use their left turn signal. I guess they never gave any thought to the real purpose of turn signals.
      -- Not using turn signals can be especially annoying when someone is changing lanes in fairly heavy traffic. Merely squeezing over to one side of a lane isn't a good indicator of an intention to change lanes, especially when there are so many texters out there doing the same thing randomly. Turn signal use around my area is so rare that I make a point of letting someone get in, even when they're driving an obese, visibility-blocking fatassmobile.
      -- As Officer401 indicated, texters behave like drunk drivers. I got rear-ended by one once whose texting was so much of a priority that she didn't even put the phone down after the accident and I had already exited my car. But I'm not as worried about phone use. I've seen a few people who can't seem to talk and drive at the same time, but I've seen a lot more who drive OK while talking on the phone, and I think that most handheld-phone bans are aimed at texters, not at talkers.

      I was driving the other day and saw someone drifting all over and in the left lane doing like 23 in a 45 MPH and when
      I pull up it’s someone old (60+) and god forbid, someone older texting or on their phone.
      After a certain age people should be required to retake the test every 5 years or so. Would you trust someone who took a test in the 50 s to continue even though you wouldn’t trust them with your TV remote?
      Also, if you have a seizure you are automatically suspended and the hospital reports it to PENNDOT until you are cleared .
      But dementia is cool apparently. A older woman who had dementia one day decided to drive hundreds of miles and hit 4 states before they got her. All they money and resources used because the family said she had problems remembering but “only indoors was she confides, she was fine driving

    As an officer in the same state as you 401, I have to say one of the other reasons people get pulled over is failing to move over for emergency vehicles or traffic stops, aka move over law

    • @grizzlygrizzle
      @grizzlygrizzle 4 роки тому

      Sometimes in heavy traffic there's no where to move over to, and this can be especially difficult when the emergency vehicle or cop is stopped right after a curve, or if one is following behind an 18-wheeler or an obese fatassmobile blocking visibility until one is almost on top of the emergency vehicle. On those occasions, I try to comply with the spirit of the law by slowing down and squeezing as far left within my lane as possible, and paying attention to see if any doors are opening or people moving around. Trying to change lanes really fast can be unsafe, and having a collision that happens close to the stopped emergency vehicle would be very unsafe for those who are stopped.

      @@willybshreddn3794 That has zero to do with ego and more to do with the fact that many people don't realize that there is officer discretion. Not every "offence" needs to be chased after. Driving thru a yellow light aggressively isn't necessarily a reason to pull someone over for one officer, but can be for another.
      I've sped past cops' going 5 to 10 over the limit, but not every cop will allow that gap in discretion. Some cops' won't look twice if you slow roll thru a stop sign, while others will.
      If you're being meticulously watched by the public while someone does something stupid, then obviously you're going to be more proactive. The point being is that not every offence needs to have a ticket thrown at you, depending on severity and obviously officer discretion.

      i mean they do get pulled over more. the Missouri attorney general reported last week that black drivers are twice as likely to be pulled order than white drivers.
      "African Americans compose 10.9% of Missouri's driving age population, but 19.2% of all vehicle stops in 2018, according to the report released May 31."
      "People of other races -- including whites, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans -- were stopped at rates "well below" their portion of the driving-age population, the report said."
      is it necessarily because all cops are racist? of course not. but there certainly is a racial component to policing, whether intentional or unconscious.

      @@musman9853 Try this exercise next time you are driving in traffic:
      1. Try looking into the cab of the vehicle in front of you to tell what race the driver is.
      2. While driving, try glancing at the oncoming traffic and identify what race they are in the .8 seconds you have to see them.
      Good luck doing these. It is nearly impossible to accurately identify the race of a driver in traffic, both from behind because windows are usually tinted and can barely see the driver (the seats kind of block your view) and for oncoming traffic because when traveling at any speed above a crawl you have almost no time to stare at the cabs of vehicles coming towards you and identify the race of the driver before they're already past you, and if you do stare, chances are you're creating a hazard in your own lane because you're not paying attention to traffic on your own side.
      Cops do not have superhuman vision. They can't see those those either. What they can see are things the officer401 identified in the video: traffic violations. Correlation does not imply causation. Just because more blacks were stopped than whites does not mean it was because of race..... Just think about that.

    I'm surprised going under the speed limit or exactly the speed limit when a patrol car is in the area wasn't listed.
    Every single time I see a patrol car on the road I see a bunch of people behind it going slower clogging up traffic. And I swear they always look at me like I'm insane when I just cruise on in with my cruise control set at 3 MPH above the limit passing them all and just riding (a safe distance) behind the patrol car getting to my destination faster without getting pulled over.

    • @alexanabolic5099
      @alexanabolic5099 5 років тому +1

      Well, the way I see it, patrol car does this (driving at a specific speed, most of the time right on the limit), to control the flow and the speed of the traffic. Going over that "set" speed limit is to me, like not respecting police authority. You are looking to get pull over, especially if you are driving a sports car. Also you never know how the police feels, if he had a bad day, etc, they are human. don't give them reason to pull you over. Respecting presence of police authority is maybe one of the most important thing to do if you want to stay ticket free, beside the obvious of respecting the law of course. Of course I am not saying to drive at half the speed limit if you have a police officer behind you. But acting like police officer are not there in front of a them, because you are "honest" or "confident", well to me, this is never a good idea.

    • @TheGamingChief
      @TheGamingChief 5 років тому +2

      Alex Anabolic It definitely depends on your area. Department policies in my area prevent officers from responding code to a good majority of their calls. This means most of the time they are just trying to get somewhere and I've seen them get irritated when someone in front of them is doing 3 under and they can't pass. And just to clarify I don't pass the officer in this case, they are already going 5-10 over once they navigate through all the slow traffic blocking them and I just follow behind at my 3-5 MPH over.

    I tried to find out how I drive after drink some beer. Drink three beer, seat on a racing simulator, and let my roommate record it. I knew I'm driving and hitting things, but my view feels delayed a lot, it feels like the objects suddenly appear in front of me. I didn't even feel any drunkness, but the video shows I didn't do anything until a second after I hit the object, looks like I didn't see the object at all.

    #4(b): Yeah, 3 inches is way too close. But I'd really love to see more cops pulling over the slow drivers - which initiates the situation that led to the tailgating. Well, at least when it's like 1-2 second lead distance (as opposed to a safe 2+ seconds).
    #3: I've actually been pulled over for my tag lights being out. Long story short, the officer gave me a warning and told me they were looking for a stolen vehicle similar to mine and busting out the tag lights is common in car thefts. So, yeah, folks - keep that in mind (and what 401 said) next time you're pulled over for equipment.

      It is the law that you have to have copies of them because sometimes our computers don’t work, internet not working, radio problems with dispatch ext. how about you listen to people who actually do the job than just spout off things that you think you know

      hurricaneheli79 also, sometimes, the insurance companies don’t do their job right and don’t report the insurance to DMV. Then dmv orders a pickup plate and revoked the tag for no insurance. If the person presents the proof that they have had insurance, we won’t take their plate and I’ll tell them to call their insurance company to get that fixed. So that’s why you have a copy, to prove yourself when the things in NCIC are wrong since everything entered there is subject to human error

    My personal opinion is as follows:
    If you come up to an intersection with a stop sign, in the flatlands of Kansas, and there's no plants or anything around so that you can see all the way down the adjacent road, and you can clearly see for a few minutes while coming up on the intersection that *nobody is there,* and you decide to still slow down but still roll through the stop sign, that is absolutely NOT a problem, and you should absolutely NOT get a ticket for that. I think stop signs are a bit over-used (at least around where I live) and that a lot of them should be replaced with Yield signs because of this. Not ALL of them, but a lot of them.
