Please enjoy this video I compiled showcasing my favorite riffs from each album, for added understanding of the riffs I learned how to play all of them.
One thing I love/hate about metallica. They will throw in a killer riff for like 10 seconds then transition into the solo and I'm just like WAIT! PLEASE PLAY THAT RIFF MORE. Kills me every time.
@@natmilcurthe reason people dislike DM is not the writing but the production, especially the original cd release which is so ridiculously compressed it hurts to listen to, the versions on streaming are not nearly as bad but still not great
Phenomenal intro, sweet groovy pre-chorus and chorus, Kirk's solo starts out flawlessly with that "iconic" melodic theme (before the wah fest),... and then 5:48 when the THRASH kicks in (much like All Nightmare Long post-solo). Could have easily replaced Murder One, ManUNkind or Am I Savage (minus the breakdown)!!!
Halo on fire has gotta have one of the best sections of any Metallica song with that nasty mini solo then into that beautiful riff that continues for two minutes.
They may not be their best albums by any means, but you can't deny that Load and Reload are the pinnacle of riff writing. Them realizing they could play slower and heavier than ever before coupled with that juicy, almost crunchy way they played E flat then makes for some of the best riffs in music history.
My favorite riff ever is that Struggle Within riff. You nailed that. Ironically I agree with almost all of your choices except for the three from 72 Seasons. I’d say Shadows Follow and Room of Mirrors have objectively better riffs. But overall a great collection.
Who hates the riff on Chasing Light?! 🤯 That’s honestly the best riff on the whole album imo. And one of the best they’ve done since the Black Album tbh.
Great choices!🤘👌 Finally someone mentioned Sweet Amber and All Nightmare Long! Also, that riff in Atlas Rise is kind of similar to the short riff in Struggle Within. And they're both catchy as hell🔥
Its awesome how similar our picks are, my favorite is probably the Frayed Ends pre-solo, that shit is next level and is played at max volume every time it comes on
Damn! As someone who only started listening more to Load & Reload the last 2 years (been a fan since 2009), it's fun to see someone rating the EXACT SAME songs and riffs from that 'midlife crisis' 96-03 era :D Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Bleeding Me, and Thorn Within (besides King Nothing's main riff) are genuinely good songs!
In my opinion, one of the best riffs on Kill 'Em All is the verse from Jump in The Fire, it's super striking and heavy and goes great with James' vocals. Anyway, cool list man.
Like many people, I just don’t understand how main riff from That Was Just Your Life ain’t on here. Best riff on the whole album, one of my favorites of all time.
I agree with Fixxxer. Though you should have gone around the mid-point of the song for the riff in there with the solo is great. I also agree with the St. Anger riffs.
I agree with most of this except death magnetic. Death magnetic in my opinion: 1. All Nightmare long (main riff @1:14) 2. the Day that Never Comes (end riff @4:53) 3. The Judas Kiss (Chorus Riff)
The main Creeping Death Riff is Metalicas' best riff. Also, ik Sad but true and tttsnb r in D what r the other 2 I thought some kind of monster but I'm pretty sure that's C#.
Finally No Remorse gets some well deserved credit. It's the best song on Kill em all imo. Also, unpopular opinion: Spit out the bone is not only one of the greatest modern Metallica songs. It's one of their greatest songs of all time
Fantastic list, I think the only problem I have is St. Anger not being at the top of the three. That riff you choose is good but it just sounds like rubber how it’s recorded.
Top 3 for me on RTL would be: 3. Fight Fire With Fire (end riff, which is just a loop of the first part of the chorus riff) 2. The bridge riff from Lightning 1. Fade To Black (No one but me can save myself....) - that entire ending section is metal PERFECTION.
I'm actually upset Sad but True and Shortest Straw riff weren't on here. By far two of my favorites to play. It's odd how you choose the next best riff in a lot of these songs rather than the best ones such as the interude in blackened rather than the motif riff or same with The thing that should not be going with the simple chorus riff (if you can even call it a riff) instead of the motif riff.
I know it’s definitely a lot of work, but videos like this could be really cool if you did a cover of the riffs instead of just playing them. To get really sick you’d have on-screen tabs. To go full Adam Neely (although that would definitely lose viewers that aren’t me) you’d do a music theory deep dive on the riffs.
Don't know if it counts as a riff, but the intro of Jump In The Fire is actually iconic
Riff for sure
can't fathom why people would hate the riff in chasing light, it's the best part of the entire song
YEAH, Main riff in Chasing Light is the best part of the entire ALBUM!
Agree. Best part of the album
in fact, its the only good part of the song
Agreed, probably the best riff on the album
Everyone loves it
One thing I love/hate about metallica. They will throw in a killer riff for like 10 seconds then transition into the solo and I'm just like WAIT! PLEASE PLAY THAT RIFF MORE. Kills me every time.
im continuously mad that the struggle within bridge riff is not twice as long, that shit slaps
the frayed ends of sanity is my favorite example of this, that riff slaps
@@zoom8371FUCKING YES
Nah we can't talk about Death Magnetic riffs without talking about "That Was Just Your Life"'s main riff
Fr
Man the whole songs one of the best of their whole discography imo. Really dont get the hate for DM.
@@natmilcurthe reason people dislike DM is not the writing but the production, especially the original cd release which is so ridiculously compressed it hurts to listen to, the versions on streaming are not nearly as bad but still not great
I think that "The Day that Never Comes" weird riff before the solo deserves a spot in this list.
Absolutely killer in that song!
Damage inc riff goes nuts
"It's the notes in between" lol
I get chills and my armhair stands on-end listening to Dyer’s Eve’s bridge riff EVERY time, without fail. Goes insanely hard
Shit makes me giggle
@@jostinjuice4012tf😭
Im so glad you put the frayed ends of sanity! Thats my favorite riff off the album, especially the rhythm part under kirks solo
james always lays gold riffs under kirks solos
That’s my favorite song they’ve released.
Wasting my hate deserved a spot. The electrified version of the beginning rift is so fucking fire istg
Riff
Dude I was slightly annoyed when wasting my hate wasn’t there, one of my favourites
7:57 LORDS OF SUMMER ACCTUALLY GETTING NOTICED?!?!?!?!
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT AS WELL!!!!
So underrated
Ong bruh I think it's underrated because it's not on the normal album track and in the weird deluxe version
Great riffs, stupid lyrics
90% of these riffs would be on my list, great taste brother
Finally someone noticed that Sweet Amber. I really want them to play this song live
i know this is subjective but how isn’t for whom the bell tolls on this i still can’t get over how good the start is
i've listened to it too many times lol
Live version made that intro bass riff even cooler
I think one of the Orion riffs could be in the top three for me on Master of puppets. Also Wherever I may roam for the black album
Orion one of my all time faves
Same
Outlaw Torn is a masterpiece. I nearly shed tears when I hear that riff
Halo on fire has gotta have one of the best sections of any Metallica song with that nasty mini solo then into that beautiful riff that continues for two minutes.
6:40 Finally someone said it
Totally agree with Struggle Within riff
Also Outlaw Torn is a lovely riff, one of my lifetime favs
Its incredible how correct you manage to be in every single part of this video. Very good
@@Roblino haha thank you man
They may not be their best albums by any means, but you can't deny that Load and Reload are the pinnacle of riff writing. Them realizing they could play slower and heavier than ever before coupled with that juicy, almost crunchy way they played E flat then makes for some of the best riffs in music history.
Couldn’t agree more, such underrated albums
nice selection. Didn't make my blood pressure rise like most "my favourite something-or-another by Metallica" videos.
Right! My list is basically the same
Chasing light's riff reminds me a lot of Metalcore which was my gateway to metal, I love it
Would love to see a harmony version of this video
Sounds like a plan
My favorite riff ever is that Struggle Within riff. You nailed that. Ironically I agree with almost all of your choices except for the three from 72 Seasons. I’d say Shadows Follow and Room of Mirrors have objectively better riffs.
But overall a great collection.
Thanks!
Only one missing from this list in my opinion is That Was Just Your Life’s main riff. Can’t understand how James sang & played it live, amazing.
DUDE I FUCKING LOVE THAT DYERS EVE RIFF OH MY GOD
Who hates the riff on Chasing Light?! 🤯 That’s honestly the best riff on the whole album imo. And one of the best they’ve done since the Black Album tbh.
1:25 YES literally the best metal riff ever!!!
There are so many fire riffs from St Anger. Honestly one of my go to albums
The Chasing Light riff is criminally underrated
Great choices!🤘👌
Finally someone mentioned Sweet Amber and All Nightmare Long!
Also, that riff in Atlas Rise is kind of similar to the short riff in Struggle Within. And they're both catchy as hell🔥
The list would be somewhat different for me but I'm glad u agree just how hard that damage inc riff is
So difficult for no reason
Very very solid rankings bro, I’m impressed.
Very solid list. Personally I can't get enough of Inamorata's intro riff
最高!こんなふうにメタリカを正当に評価してくれる動画大好きです!
Finally someone who loves chasing lights' intro. Is a fabulous riff
8:23 Just like that part in The Struggle Within you mentioned earlier
I think the bridge of am i savage deserves a spot, its so heavyyy
excellent list. Agree with almost everything. My all time favorite is the Damage Inc one.
The struggle within bridge riff is so underrated.
My all time favourite Metallica riff is the outro on Seek & Destroy at 6:17. Simple to play but so heavy and bad ass!!
I’m so glad that struggle within riff was on there, it’s legit my favorite
Frayed Ends is so goddamn underrated
FR
Its awesome how similar our picks are, my favorite is probably the Frayed Ends pre-solo, that shit is next level and is played at max volume every time it comes on
The backing riff for the solo in Frayed Ends of Sanity
Damn! As someone who only started listening more to Load & Reload the last 2 years (been a fan since 2009), it's fun to see someone rating the EXACT SAME songs and riffs from that 'midlife crisis' 96-03 era :D
Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Bleeding Me, and Thorn Within (besides King Nothing's main riff) are genuinely good songs!
In my opinion, one of the best riffs on Kill 'Em All is the verse from Jump in The Fire, it's super striking and heavy and goes great with James' vocals. Anyway, cool list man.
The riff after the clean break on To Live is to Die gives me chills every time. Anything from AJFA does that to be fair
you have earned my sub
thank you brother
Def right about chasing light being fun to play. One of my favs
Main Enter Sandman and Sad But True, and Wherever I May Roam riffs from TBA are my favorites.
I’m so glad you put the bridge riff for dyers eve at #1😂
that frayed ends riff is my favorite
Everyone knows that Seek & Destroy has the best riff in Kill 'em All
Phantom lord 🙈
Like many people, I just don’t understand how main riff from That Was Just Your Life ain’t on here. Best riff on the whole album, one of my favorites of all time.
Great top, man ✌️
Would love to see your list of solos and/or harmonies
Noted!
I agree with Fixxxer.
Though you should have gone around the mid-point of the song for the riff in there with the solo is great.
I also agree with the St. Anger riffs.
Finally someone notices Where the Wild Things are, Sweet Amber and Lords of summer❤
Chasing Light riff reminds me of Through the Never. Just bouncing back and forth.
YES FIXXXER THANK YOU
I really love Fight Fire With Fire riff & Shadows Follow riff 😍
"St. Anger is underrated"- Thank's dude))
wow this may be the most accurate video imo - but there’s too many hard choices to be fair
Probably could’ve said any song from the first 5 albums and I would’ve been like “yeah, fair choice. That riff is sick.”
Honourable mention for MOP is that the Orion riff… you guys know the one. It’s so sick
Shortest straw my favourite metallica riff but this is actually a great list
I feel like blitzkrieg is one of the most underrated metallica songs
Epic song but i didn’t include covers for this list
@@QeltzI didnt know it was a cover damnnn
the original is pretty dope
Ik bro my mind was blown when I found out too
I agree with most of this except death magnetic.
Death magnetic in my opinion:
1. All Nightmare long (main riff @1:14)
2. the Day that Never Comes (end riff @4:53)
3. The Judas Kiss (Chorus Riff)
The main Creeping Death Riff is Metalicas' best riff. Also, ik Sad but true and tttsnb r in D what r the other 2 I thought some kind of monster but I'm pretty sure that's C#.
The other 2 are devils dance and dream no more
72 seasons Main riff is really a textbook Metallica riff😂 0-3-5-6 + 7 on the 5th string. I'm in love with it
ok
this man just said that creeping death is a down picking warm up I think he be flexing on us now
I just play it to get my right hand moving, doesn’t mean I play flawlessly lmao
Finally No Remorse gets some well deserved credit. It's the best song on Kill em all imo. Also, unpopular opinion: Spit out the bone is not only one of the greatest modern Metallica songs. It's one of their greatest songs of all time
4:35 Imo, the final riff in this song goes so hard.
Dyers Eve bridge riff is my all time favorite Metallica riff
8:09 Wait… it does sound like Battery a good bit! Yet another reference in that song I think
Nice Video. Metallica ist one of my favorit Bands .
me too!
Absolutely nailed master and justice right on the head
Leper Messiah - all day long
I love for St. Anger you can only hear Lars snare 💀
Hey man I’m with you, I need whatever the fuck Hetfield was on when he wrote those Dyers Eve riffs cause holy fuck.
Solid picks ngl
Fantastic list, I think the only problem I have is St. Anger not being at the top of the three. That riff you choose is good but it just sounds like rubber how it’s recorded.
The breakdown / interlude in Frantic is underrated
yeah thats cool list
WHY IS MASTER OF PUPPETS PRE-CHORUS RIFF IS SO UNDERRATED💔💔💔💔💔
Top 3 for me on RTL would be:
3. Fight Fire With Fire (end riff, which is just a loop of the first part of the chorus riff)
2. The bridge riff from Lightning
1. Fade To Black (No one but me can save myself....) - that entire ending section is metal PERFECTION.
The main riff in Blackened is my favorite riff ever, on any album, and how could you leave out the “body my holding cell” riff in One?
ive listened to it so many times ive kinda worn it out lol
Shadows Follow main riff is 🔥
I would change the struggle within bridge riff with the sad but true main riff but i agree with all the other ones.
I'm actually upset Sad but True and Shortest Straw riff weren't on here. By far two of my favorites to play. It's odd how you choose the next best riff in a lot of these songs rather than the best ones such as the interude in blackened rather than the motif riff or same with The thing that should not be going with the simple chorus riff (if you can even call it a riff) instead of the motif riff.
its a subjective list, I tend to look past the main riffs towards to ones that get overshadowed. Thanks for the comment!
Suicide & Redemption at #1 is based as F*CK! my favorite Metallica song of all time
Criminally underrated
Devils Dance is the best riff of Reload.
Also, justice for St. Anger.
my apocalypse riff before solo is unbeatable
I know it’s definitely a lot of work, but videos like this could be really cool if you did a cover of the riffs instead of just playing them. To get really sick you’d have on-screen tabs. To go full Adam Neely (although that would definitely lose viewers that aren’t me) you’d do a music theory deep dive on the riffs.
I was thinking of doing this actually, not the music theory part because I don’t really know it, but It’d be cool to play them instead.

@@pietandersen6120 haha, thanks for the interest man.
FINALLY FIXXXER GETTING SOME DANG RECOGNITION
I knew it that riff from The Judas Kiss must be on the list
the judas kiss finally gets love :)
Good list!
I'm sad that "Am I Savage?" went underappreciated again.. Cool list though!
Haha ikr, deciding between the breakdowns from Spit and Am I Savage were tough for the no. 3 spot
