Lulu should be S tier for no reason other than gifting us with “I AM THE TABLE”
Soad should cover that song
i dont see a S tier
@@paulpv7 Classic is same as S for him
That’s where it came from?
Suicide and redemption might be the best instrumental they have ever done? Stopped listening after that comment.
And justice for all has easily the best drumming Lars has ever displayed. It’s good to the point where he can’t play half the parts today
Well, he can't.
But it's okey.
You can easily hear the cut paste production with the drums on that album. It’s obviously a combination of the best takes, rather than one solid take.
@@seanwechsler6783 You do know they played songs off of that album live back then right? lol
Dyer's Eve (and a few other of the fast songs off Justice) had uncredited session drummer.
@@scope81 you know back then Lars couldn’t perform those songs they way they sound on the album. I’ve watched Seattle 89, he can’t play them the same way.
I love how everybody complained that there was no bass on Justice so some guy on the internet made a version where the bass is like 3 times louder than the rest of the band
Ruins it imo. Bass isn't supposed to override the rest of the band. If your gonna add bass make it so it's audible but not three times fucking louder than everything else
@@rhyswalsh4483 Bass and Drums are the soul of music.
@@GRA2itous still too much bass doesn't sound right. You feel the bass but you hear the guitar.
Not every video has the bass louder some how the sound just right not to loud or to low.
@@GRA2itous The drums are the foundation and the bass supplements everything. Guitar is supposed to be the soul of rock/metal. It isn’t rap, bass shouldn’t be up front unless. Obviously, Tool and Primus are exceptions.
I still have a vivid memory of my dad listening to Load and then throwing the cassette out the window saying “what a load of shit”
This the funniest shit ever your Dad sounds awesome
That’s hilarious
Unironiclly one of my top three albums for me
@@ja-nathen Shares my favorite spot with Reload
Probably because it was a load of shit and so was reload lol. the fact that its in the same tier as kill em all makes me question this whole this. Black album was the beginning of the end imo
It hurt when you said Phantom Lord and Whiplash are forgettable. Kill em All is my favorite Metallica album and I’m a huge fan of the production, I just absolutely love that raw thrash sound.
Especially Whiplash gets an entirely different beast live...Seattle 89 and San Diego 92 performances are insane!
Whiplash is definitely not forgettable lol, But No remorse and Metal Militia are and its sad
@@nickspears3906 The scream in No Remorse it's sooo good... But yeah, it isn't the best.
Phantom lord is in my top 5 Metallica songs of all time.
I’d take any of these songs and leave motorbreath any day of the week.
Mike: *Complains about boring riffs in E for Shortest Straw and Harvester*
Also Mike: *Puts Black Album over Justice*
Both albums deserved to be in Amazing tier
even at 15 years old I knew the Black album was dog shit.
@@TheSaintberzerker …well that’s certainly a take. A horrendously misguided take, but a take nonetheless.
I skipped to the end and saw the black album in classic tier and knew this guy has no fucking idea what he’s talking about lmao
@@SG-qx1fg At least there’s people who can really appreciate a really good work
Hearing whiplash be described as forgettable genuinely cut me deep
I KNOW
I heard him say that and then adrenaline started to flow, I started thrashing all around, acting like a maniac…
@@eternalapostle851 I know it just made me want to bang my head against the stage like I never did before
FR! And Metal Militia! That's one of my favorite Metallica songs period, not just on KEM. But hey, that's the beauty of Metallica. Lars said it best that you could line up 10 Metallica fans up against a wall, and you'll get 10 completely different opinions.
Whiplash is the best song on KEA.
I think Ride the Lightning is underrated. The tone for sure could have been better, but I think it contains Metallica's best writing outside of The Black Album. In my opinion, it comprises Kirk Hammett's best solos.
ride the lightning has alot of my fav kirk hammett solos in it, in general i love the album
That's my favorite tone of all their albums, and probably my favorite guitar tone ever
Tone? Better? That tone is literal lightning from a guitar
Kirk only has writing credits on two songs on the album. Granted they are Fade to Black and Creeping Death which both include great solos.
@@XoldnewsX He still writes all the solos, the songwriting credits only apply to riffs and arrangement
Even the worst albums have some great tracks. One of the deepest catalogues you can find.
Besides Lulu😂
facts, even st anger has sweet amber
Discount Lulu and St. Anger and your statement will be 100% accurate. Every album on every other tier list has at least some great tracks.

guess you could say lulu should.... jump in the fire?
hey
Ride the lightning in my opinion is the best metallica album i just love how ride the lightning album flows and creeping death is so under rated
Especially the bridge in creeping death
Creeping Death is probably the most loved Metallica song in hardcore Metallica fans. I agree with RTL as the best Metallica album, top 5 greatest metal albums ever, but the MVP is the title track for me. MOP is a close second tho.
Most of you probably already know this but there’s a reason Metallica never plays escape live. I think they’ve played it only like once or twice
@@lewisgrant7622imagine you go to see Metallica live for the first time and they play Escape💀💀💀
@@RadicalRockerwould be amazing
Spit Out The Bone is one my favorites from the new one. Something about Kirk Hammett solo in the middle that i adore, gives me flashblack too the older stuff.
Metallica will always be a special band to me.
I actually really like the production on Kill Em All. It's raw, it's got a lot of energy, and it has a sizzling bite to it. The guitars sound like chainsaws and it's awesome. Metal doesn't have to sound clean to be a good production, it has to get it's point across. Kill Em All is the sound of someone being bludgeoned to death with a mallet
Exactly, and Mike apparently can't understand this because all he does is worship Dream Theater 24/7 and is too fragile to withstand even slightly raw production. First wave black metal would probably make him cry.
@@rcengineer I think both can be true... an album can sound awesome from a subjective level... where it nails a certain vibe... and yet still be shit from an objective recording quality level.
Kill em all is an amazing album it stands for what they stood for at the time to be loud fast and fucking rock amazing
100% agree with u dude. I was pretty surprised when he put Kill em All that low in the tier list
Kill'em all is like classic Gibson + Marshall tones.
When played live, "Frantic" and "St Anger" itself.. sound really good. Proper snare sound in conjunction with the rest of the live set, proper good guitar tone, and Hetfield nailing the vocals right on the money. Really believe that, with a good bit of editing, Kirk laying down some structured soloing, better production and making Invisible Kid invisible from the album, it could have been genuinely good. Enjoyed your comments and thoughts here.
Sorta, people tend to forget how horrible the lyrics are on both those albums, it just sounds awkward
The vocals and a lot of structure definitely isn’t salvageable, though at least for St Anger (which I’ve seen live performances of) but it does sound far better live when the drums aren’t fucking trash cans
What’s a good live version of ‘Frantic’ and ‘St. Anger’ you like?
@@deathless2554 Check out St. Anger from Manchester 2019. Under sheets of pissing rain, the song , slightly trimmed, and sounding tight and right under a good PA sounds good. Theres a HQ vid of it here to see. Any proper official video of Frantic from the same Euro Stadium tour again, sounds good!🤘🤘😁
Listen without any associations or bad feelins' to the song and hear it as brand new. Much better live, within the context of the live set. They played St Anger and Frantic on their outdoor Euro tours and those songs got a great response. Im Irish, saw them here in '19, and was amazed at how good Frantic sounded. It was like a whole new recording. Again, if people still dislike the songs despite the better appearence live, thats cool. Each to their own. But theyre worth a look and relisten. 🤘
@@harrisonbishop1832 honestly I think the vocals are the most raw and defining characteristic of that album. Like, 14 year old me hearing St. Anger for the 1st time bonded to it in a way that I just couldn't with other albums. It got me through the lowest of lows, kind of like what it did for Metallica
All I will say, is that Orion is probably my favorite instrumental track of all time. Some of the riffs in that are just sexy for lack of a better term
As a newer Metallica fan I absolutely love hardwired … literally my go to gym album it’s genius
The writing is what makes me hate it…
Badass, that album is really good, lots of well written songs and chunky riffs 🤘
ride the lightning is my personal favorite. the songs range from tearjerking to fucking bloodthirsty. i like less than average production especially from the decades previous. i love a lot of the records but ride the lightning is just really damn good. great video, mike!
I'm with you there. That's my favorite album while my favorite single is MOP
Agreed completely.
Same only song I don't care for from ride the lightning was trapped under ice. The rest are amazing.
@@butter2221 im surprised. thats one of my favorite tracks from the record. oh well! do u, man :)
@@butter2221 it’s my favorite album and one of the reasons is I never really remember Escape or Trapped under Ice, but it’s only because everything else is so good so when I listen to the album those two are still brutal
Every album has some meh songs but the meh on Ride the Lightning the Meh songs are amazing
If you think Lulu is the album equivalent of the “the room” you haven’t heard Corey Feldmans angelic to the core.
Or Corey Taylor’s CMFT
I agree on the actual albums list but wtf man, u don't "really care" about Damage inc.??? That track is straight up destruction from start to finish and has (imo) one of the best bridge riffs ever. It is a perfect finish to a perfect album.
The best hardwired song is on death magnetic. That could count as a roast honestly
Really appreciated the Load Reload comments. House that Jack Built, Bleeding Me, Hero of the Day, Outlaw Torn, Fuel, Fixxxer. Incredible songs. Brooding, strong, moody and mighty. Honing in that eerie, evil Iommi groove with a classic rock vibe tipping their hats to the hard rock upbringings of Zeppelin. And the S&M rendition of Outlaw Torn is one of the best things they've every done. Majestic.
I've always been on the fence with Load/Reload. Taking the highlights from each and turning them into one release... and I think you have a killer rock album. But I think on a lot of tracks they come across as imitating a loose, southern bluesy thing without really nailing the vibe. For lack of a better term, those albums needed to be a little more sloppy and a little less precisely produced. But in the grand scheme of things, I do think they've aged better then a lot of the "thrash only" fans give them credit for.
Disagree on DM. One of their best albums in my opinion. Only thing that holds it back is the mix.
It's at #3 for me after AJFA and MOP. The production is obnoxious tho
I agree.
there are also some parts in certain songs that just go on for a few more bars than they need to tat make it longer than it needs to be imo. The riffs are sick as tho
The only thing with DM is it feels like they wrote 7 minutes songs for the sake of writing 7 minute songs.
It would be my favorite album of theirs if they just made the songs shorter. So much bloat but great material
Ride the Lightning is, in my opinion, their best album as a whole, but Death Magnetic has "All Nightmare Long," so I gotta put it up there.
The Black Album was my introduction that send me down the rabbit hole. The Sandman video when the truck hits the bed behind the kid running when he screams " boom " was fucking killer!
My tier list
S: Master of Puppets, Ride the lightning
A: And justice for all, Kill em all, Black album, Garage inc
B: ReLoad, Hardwired, Death Magnetic
C: Load
D: St. Anger
Z: Lulu
Id swap garage with hardwired but other than that its perfect
@@BBL_Burger_ this one makes more sense than the video
i almost agree 100% but i love kill em all, so i'd put it in S
I’d put AJFA in S but other than it’s perfect
That's exactly what I was expecting.
Aside from the bass, Justice is a perfect album. In my opinion, Blackened is the single greatest thrash metal song ever written and I wish there were more riffs like that.
I'll at least agree Blackened is fucking fantastic
I don't dig that album, but I agree so much Blackened is incredible. So much so that despite being a classic (I think) it's seems underrated compared to their other mighty classics.
PS- I think that album would have been Metallica's greatest album (greatest thrash album?) if it had a brighter production with more depth (and some bass wouldn't hurt) because in order to appreciate richness of complex intricate music, you should make it more attractive for a listen to really pour the listener in, like Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson. The bloody production sucks the blood out of this great work that I can't and many more can't appreciate.
@@BecomeTheKnight that riff for me is right up there with Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy and the mid riff of Ride the Lightning. It's broken!
The thing I dislike the most about AJFA is how many chokes are there, just look at the self-titled song

@@umcorinthianoguitarrista my actual biggest problem with the album, so many pointless breaks and weird rhythms, breaks a lot of flow and bores to listen.
I love harvester of sorrow in the moment. It's not my favorite, but I still love it. Even if you don't like it, you can't deny that riff after the bridge before it goes back into the main riff.
He's never been smashed against the barricade directly in front of James starting that opening riff. His mind would change.
Listening to your reviews, it's evident that you're a musician and lover of music. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and that you pulled no punches. 👏
The fact that a band this big only has like 4 or 5 unanimously agreed upon albums after 40 years is amazing
That's not true. Only elitist and close minded people say that. I know plenty of people that love all their albums, and I'm one of them.
@@MikeysMorgue you cannot seriously argue that the black album onwards are “unanimously agreed upon as good”
@@bostonvh A lot of people say the first 4 or 5 albums are all that matters then they fell off. I'm just saying that I don't agree with that at all. Load and ReLoad are excellent to me, and I like all of their other albums. But the first 7 are genuinely excellent to me. It's all opinions anyway. Like the guy that made this video, saying people are stupid or chuds for their opinion and then saying don't get mad at his. Pretty funny.
@@bostonvh You can't seriously argue that there are more people that hate Black Album rather than liking it. Though I'm convinced whatever is possible since people also hate AJFA, quite a few I read about that one actually.

The Black Albun sucks outloud. Death Magnetic is better in every way.
I know Lars’ playing has been rough for a long time, but in the live videos from their last couple of gigs, he’s actually sounds tight, in-time, and rehearsed?? Like, freaking unbelievable.
he's said he conserves himself due to their touring schedule. I guess with what the world is like now, he doesn't play as often so can actually put (more) effort in per set. Also, he might have gotten more fitter during their off time when the pandemic first hit (I don't know just guessing)
This. They sound absolutely fantastic
He still sucks ass, but I think they're playing to a click now so he doesn't do any shit like speed up 20 bpm during the intro to Enter Sandman or some shit.
@@LordofDiamondsMetal check out this performance of damage inc from last night

I saw them twice at Rockville and they weren't that great the first night but they were a lot better the second night. They seemed to enjoy performing more the second night too so maybe that had something to do with it.
Just out of curiosity I decided to listen to Lulu in its entirety without interruptions just to see if it really is as bad as everyone says it is. Boy do I fucking regret that choice
The Black Album will forever be my favorite, amazing tones, kickass songs, and it was the first CD I ever bought
Having Master Of Puppets at the top made me happy. My personal favorite.
Can you review acid bath when the kite string pops
Yeah, but then he has the Black album ranked higher? Lol. I mean, I agree with what he says about all the morons shouting it down as a sell out. It's still a good record but it absolutely PALES in comparison to Puppets.
Hi Rocked!
Thank goodness he gets it. MOP deserves the crown
Dyers Eve was my intro to the band. What a great way to get into the band.
When I was 12, I heard that and listened to the “dear mother, dear father…” lyrics, it cemented Metallica as my favorite band of all time forever
We are waiting for that long Metallica video Mike !
Ngl Hardwired is one of their most addicting albums
i agree, i love the 80's albums but i usually find myself going back to Hardwired and DM
“Some people who think And Justice For All is the greatest Metallica album I still don’t get that perspective.” Me who thinks it’s their best album: 🥺
With the correct mix it might be their best album. At the time I certainly thought it was. After hearing ...And Justice for Jason though, I have a hard time listening to vanilla AJFA.
It's fuckin ' terrible, outside of One and Dyer's Eve. It's like their Rust in Peace. 2 decent tunes, the rest is bullshit filler.
@@vorpalblades Oh I agree with you on RiP. It's shite. We'll agree to disagree on AJFA.

S&M is so good. Outlaw Torn sounds fucking fantastic, I can't think of another song that's improved so much by a live performance.
Ride the lighting is amazing. Love the tone. Perfect album
When I first got the black album when it came out.. I'll admit I was pretty upset with it because I was listening to And.. Justice For All and Master of Puppets so much. But with age and growing up a lil more I've come to realize it is their best album.
Bro, I loved your channel a few years back, kinda fell out of being heavy into metal and UA-cam for a while (for different reasons) but holy fuck I'm glad I've found you again, channel kicks ass
Respect for shouting out low man lyric fucking love that song

That's why you watch the channel 👍
Who wants those though?
I'd put Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning in Classic Tier (hot take, but I like them both better than MoP, which I adore as well), but I agree with everything else on your list, especially the placement of LuLu or whatever the fuck that album was. Load/ReLoad are good albums - they're just more hard rock than heavy metal. And ...And Justice For All is one remix away from being a classic.
KEA > RTL > AJFA > MoP imo
@@jables9229 I get that. Justice has some of their best, most progressive and complex compositions. Ride the Lightning's my favourite Metallica album but I love the rawness and punk metal energy of the debut. James' vocals are so fucking raw and unpolished and youthful I love it.
Yeah ranking kill em all anywhere under classic tier is just objectively wrong. That album literally invented the thrash metal genre (slayer at that time was closer to first wave black metal and anthrax was more traditional heavy metal). Songs like seek and destroy, no remorse, hit the lights, four horsemen, motorbreath, and whiplash are not only some of the best metallica songs, but some of the most important metal songs ever released. The entire tracklist is legendary. It's considered one of the best debut releases by any band in history.
Also the production fucking kicks ass, especially considering when it was released. In 1983 that guitar tone was mind blowing. Even by today's standards it still sounds pretty good. If it had "better" production, it would not be nearly as heavy. The rawness is as much part of the songwriting as the riffs themselves. I don't see how anyone can think it sounds bad unless all they listen to is overproduced djent shit that's compressed to hell. Kill Em All is what a REAL band sounds like. It's a bunch of dudes picking up real guitars, plugging into real amps, pressing record on the tape and playing the absolute SHIT out of them. No plugins or DAW's needed. That's what true metal is about
@@howler9171 wrong exodus are credited as being the first thrash band
I used to think that …And Justice For All was the best one, and then when I started to learn those solos and riffs (kinda my first introduction into actually competently playing metal) I started to notice that, while the song structure and licks themselves are gushing with creativity and passion, the solos are actually pretty lack luster sometimes when compared to that standard. Most of the solos follow (in my opinion) sort of the same pattern of beginning with a phrygian/melodic minor slow sound and then transition into some super energetic blues solo which, while super awesome, does start to lose its luster when you’ve heard it 1000 times.
Man, I thought I was the only one that believed that Where the wild things are and Low man's lyric are great f*cking tracks. So glad I hear you say this!
Just wondering, whats your thoughts on Dyers Eve? One of my personal favourite songs from Metallica, the main riff just slaps for me
One of my favorites. I talked about it a bit on a couple of different videos. Absolutely in LOVE
I’m so glad someone else loves the black album! It was my introduction to Metallica and for a very long time I’ve heard so many people talk shit about it. I like it alot.
My favorite is Ride The Lightning, it has as an amazing diversity of metal songs, great lyrics and many of their greatest riffs and solos. The compositions are fantastic, it's a spectacular listen overall.
PS- The title track is my favorite Metallica song, with Kirk Hammett's greatest solo along with One and Fade to Black and I think six insane riffs in one damn song.
Just a question, is there anything you’d change on this list?
If you purchase Death Magnetic directly from Metallica's website, you actually get the remastered, un-clipped version. Not sure if it's the Guitar Hero version specifically, but it's 100x better than the audio diarrhea that we initially got in 2008.
Damn, and that version's not on Spotify??
I think the iTunes version is also like this, because I have DM on my iPhone, and it sounds SO MUCH BETTER than the CD and Spotify versions.
I think Metallica didn't use any of GH mixes even though they allowed them being made... There might be some article about it but maybe just some outside work for the Web of one.
So relatable in the first 10 seconds Mike… I loved Metallica over every metal band for my early teenage years. I’m so thankful, for one, they sparked a true love for a bands full body of work. Secondly, it increased my drumming speed, discipline, and dedication to learning songs and grooves at an early age. Typing this while watching the video, and LuLu is most definitely The Room of albums, however I’ve gone back to watch The Room 3-4x, as much can not be said about that horrid album. You’re one of the few music review channels that just gives straight analytical overviews that I really enjoy watching, been a subscriber for quite a few years now, cheers from Ohio! Hope your life and musical career are all going well, stay safe brother🤘🏼, hopefully we can fight COVID and actually return to a regular day-to-day life
Your comment on Hardwired applies perfectly for me for Death Magnetic. Hardwired however is a completely different story for me....up there with (or even above) Load and Reload.
Love the tier list and your willingness to be honest despite knowing some options wouldn’t be popular. I would have placed death magnetic up one slot, but pretty much agree with the rest. Thanks.
Opinion Alert: James Hetfield’s vocals sound better than James LaBrie’s
I don't think James Hetfield would work in Dream Theater tho lol. Just like James LaBrie wouldn't work in Metallica.
Ice cold take
In other news, the water is wet
Just no
Their vocals are so different, I couldnt compare.
I’ve always thought hardwired’s problem was quantity over quality. I honestly think most of the first half is pretty good, but the second half has some filler. If you cut it down to 9 or 10 tracks I think you would have a pretty decent album
And cut some filler parts on the tracks as well
Spit Out the Bone singlehandedly should raise Hardwired up a tier
Then why didn't he put it higher ? It's because the rest of the songs are pretty bad.( confusion, dream no more, Am I savage? etc)

I agree almost with your list. I would say Ride the Lighting is the greatest album followed by a very close second, Master of Puppets and the Black rounding the top three. S&M goes in the excellent tier.
The problem that I have with Ride The Lightning is that I feel like it's tracks "Trapped Under Ice" and "Escape" are fillers compared to the rest of the album but outside from that I think that it belongs to Metallica's holy trinity together with "Kill Em' All" and "Master Of Puppets" ("Master Of Puppets" is my favorite Metallica following "Kill Em' All" and then "Ride The Lightning")
9:46 I actually totally agree. Anesthesia is a cool bass solo and a nice break from the other tracks but it's not the masterpiece that a lot of person think it is.

Yo Mike I have a question. At 4:12 you say that My Apocalypse was one of the only redeeming tracks of Hardwired. Only issue is that track is on Death Magnetic. Does this bump Hardwired to the "Fucking Regret" tier?
The songs on "Kill 'Em All" hold up so well I think. I agree it stands head and shoulders above so many metal releases in 1983. Just my opinion.
I think the scratchy guitar tone on kill em all actually adds a lot to the songs. The production is what it needed to be. And you have to remember it was 1983. They didn't exactly have dream theater level production yet

They have nothing left to say, but they've left us with a lot of great music.
12:10 low man's lyric is the best metallica song in my opinion. i dont care how unmetal it is, but i love Ab minor so much and it has some of the best counterpointed riffs out of any metallica song in the vocal parts. and the bridge is the best clean riff ever🔥🔥🔥

Why is the master of puppets album at such a lower volume on itunes than the others? I aways have to turn up the volume when a song from that album comes on.
Goddamn dude. Fantastic list.
I'd probably only swap 1 or 2 items between classic and excellent but doesn't even really matter. What's most shocking is how much amazing material Metallica has.
🤘
"Just because it isn’t as bad as St Anger doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good"
That expresses everything I’ve felt about Metallica after 1991
For me ride the lightning is the greatest, the tone and the intensity of the riffs fight fire with fire, trapped under ice and creeping death but my number 1 song will always be battery on master of puppets hands down
i love to hear their first 4 album mixed and sounded like their last album without changing tempo or anything, just record it with modern sound
Knocked this one outta the park. I actually dug DM, so I'd probably have it a bit higher "on my list." Great content as always man, keep em coming.
People say AJFA is their best album because it's seen as a sort of "crescendo" of their career, especially because of Blackened and One. It was also the last of their thrash albums before Black Album and Load/Reload. It is a great album for sure, my personal second favorite behind Master.
I love how you go straight from "I give absolutely zero fucks about your opinion" to "Please cover our song and use our hashtag" in the same breath.
For better AND for worse, dude's got a big mouth.
That part really made me wish more people recognized the extreme subjectivity of music. This is not "THE" metallic list. It's his opinion, which is very valid, but so is everyone's in regard to what music they personally love, lol...

Deat MagnetIC is one of my personal favorites, people really hate on It way more than it deserves and other simply forget it even exists. Totally with you on the black album, overtime I hear a song off of it there´s just something special that pops off instantly.
I actually liked how St Anger pieced together spontenous sound clips of them jamming to create songs. It's an interesting way to create music. Even if the lack of solos and drum fills, combined with the tonal ringing of the snare (tuned to match the song's drone note), make the cut and paste "collage" concept more jarring.
I'm so glad S&M is where it deserves to be. It's the album I revisit most and I was so disappointed in S&M 2 after thinking it would be as good or better. I'll never forget my Dad getting the DVD and us sitting down and blasting it, it was a bonding moment. Core memory.
13:14 You said a few times that to truly be a progressive band is to simultaneously push musical boundaries and be instantly relatable, so would the first 4/5 Metallica records not fall under this, with bringing more harmony, dynamics, compositional complexity and aggression to metal while still being one of the most popular rock/metal groups of all time?
Hard to argue with that break down. Obviously everyone will have their favourites for various reasons. I'm one of the Justice fan boys. Can't get enough of it, but there's some serious nostalgia attached to that album for me so that will influence my love for it. I don't care too much for the majority of songs on the Black album and I tend to prefer rawer sounding music but the production on that album is a masterclass. An art form in itself.
Objectively though, you're spot on with that tier list.
Im glad you included S&M and Garage inc!
This list is fairly uncontrovertial, I think. My list is obviously different but the reasoning behind each ranking is pretty understandable. We all agree to all of these opinions already, it's just that some of these flaws bug us more than the others and hence, difference in rankings.
I feel like Mike puts a lot more emphasis on the production and the complexity of the material than most other ppl.
The first three albums are the best to me, just pure, raw thrash.
First album kinda sucked but I do fucking love seek and destroy. Ride the lightning is their best album.
no hatred for the first album here... although I will agree with Neil that Ride the Lightning is the best
I fucking love where the wild things are. Thank you, holy shit
Where is garage re revisited
I dare you to find either a copy of the Gold Disc remaster of Master Of Puppets or find a torrentand download it. It by far blows away the standard release or the current remaster. The gold disc version master removes the scooped EQ and as a result you can hear things that where missed. You can hear what James screams at the end of Sanatorium, the bass guitar is more pronounced and the kick drums have much more punch to them. The overall sonic soundscape is much butter.
Woooorrdd. I'll have to check it out!
Honestly surprised with how much I agree with this list. Load is a very underrated album, gets way too much shit
Mabey cuz the album cover looks like the toilet after a taco bell
@@BBL_Burger_ I like the album cover. Always thought it was supposed to be like flames or something until I found out what it really was
So bloated. Great songs but way too bloated.
Probably late to the party but:
I hate how much I agreed with you. I love kill ‘em all but while watching this you made me really think about it how much do I listen to the album, and the albums you put higher I come back to much more.
Good video
It's nice to see someone give Load respect; I love that album; so many great songs.
"Blackened" was my favourite song off ....and justice for all because it was the most "thrash"
I agree with your overall assessment of the album though.
"Ride the lightning" has too much reverb and not enough low end but yeah... still definitely up there..
"Dyers Eve" is among the Top 5 FASTEST METAL SONGS OF ALL TIME. It wasn't "thrash" enough for you?
I was beginning to understand everything on this tier list.... until you put Garage Inc above 80% of Metallica's discography
Good video dude, I am always interested in hearing younger fans than me how they got into Metallica and what album they came in on. For me I really consider the first five albums classic Metallica, and for the last decade or maybe even really sense St. Anger it felt like when they would go on tour it would be three or four songs off whatever album they were touring and then the rest of the set list would be from the first five albums, and Fuel.
I guess the reason why I’m into fans of Metallica that didn’t become a fan during their first decade is because everyone my age or older I’ve already heard the same shit for 35 years now and I’m just tired of them, looking at the heavy metal handbook and telling me the same fucking answer. they’re my favorite band. I listen to a lot of different genres of music though, but mainly metal and hip-hop. I will admit I really don’t listen to a lot of the newer metal stuff really passed the mid 2000s.
But I like hearing other peoples opinion and you’re absolutely right I really don’t hang out with other metal fans anymore because they have more rules than the Catholic Church when it comes to what’s accepted and what isn’t and it doesn’t feel like a lot of original thoughts go around. For the most part, it’s a fan base of people that actually judge other people and their character completely based on what kind of music they listen to .
But yeah, that was actually pretty interesting. You are the first person I have ever heard say they came into Metallica as a fan during the St. Anger era. I really tried to like that album by the way, but after a month I was like “OK I get it you guys went through a lot, still my favorite band, but this album and it lol”
But to be fair other than maybe Dr. Dre I can’t think of any artist that every album they put out I loved, and Dr. Dre is kind of cheating because he only puts out one album a decade so if you’re only going to put out three albums in 35 years they better be good .
But yeah, I can’t wait to check out the rest of your channel man. Keep out the good work brother.
Bruh you did me DIRTY with the Damage Inc and Shortest Straw hate.
Two of my favorite songs.
IMO, Dyers Eve is the best song off of AJFA
Thank you Mike for beign honest. I hate when people say Metallica sold out.
Damn that black album production. The hi-hat drills right through my mind! Glad that the recent remaster made it better.
Ride the lightning is my favorite album for sure, I just love listening to cliffs lines and “fight fire with fire” is always a fantastic listen
