Kinda late to the party (again), but this song was written by Albert Hammond Jr. (the guitarist) right after he completed his rehabilitation from drug abuse.

Julian’s songs are frequently about failed romantic relationships, so you could very well be correct there, but it sounds like it could also be a metaphor for his feelings about the band and wanting to ditch it. This was actually the second consecutive album they made purely under contractual obligated, and the second consecutive one where they were dealing with internal issues. The first was Angles, 3 years prior. So they were all probably _very_ sick of each other by this point.
In the beginning, with “Get dressed in your bed while she’s asleep,” he could be talking about just going radio silent and cutting off contact with everyone. “You ask me to stay, but there’s a million reasons to leave. Find a....” could be him lamenting about what else he could be doing with his life that could be making him happier.
The whole “trigger” bit in the second verse could be about arguments and hurtful words, where someone in the band going too far with their angry responses could push the tension to a breaking point and kill the band.
“Show me what to say....” could be him reaching out for some sort of compromise or peace. And then at the end “I don’t wanna be in there with you. I don’t wanna be in there without your loving either. I waited for your thoughts. Can’t wait no longer.” Maybe he’s saying he really doesn’t want the band to end, because he still cares about it, and he would rather reignite the spark and go back to making music and enjoying it. But he feels he’s being left no choice, because not everyone is willing to compromise.
All of this also just applies to failed relationships though, Julian’s forte, so it really could be that simple. After all, if you’re being forced to make a record you don’t want to make, with people you don’t get along with, it makes sense that you wouldn’t put more than the necessary amount of effort into it, and would phone it in with tried-and-true methods.

Nice to hear again. Never cared much for this album, but I think I’ll return to it. Check out “Under Cover of Darkness,” a killer track from Angles.

Could you add the following song to your list…think you might like it! The song is ‘4th of July’ by Galaxie 500. Maybe you could tee it up for…. The 4th of July?

Nice breakdown. A fun track from what is definitely their weakest album (still has some amazing tracks though). Can't wait to see them in Melbourne next month. I recommend you check out tracks "Fuzz Jam" and "The Seaside" by The Lazy Eyes, . They're a new Aussie band who just released their first album. Their sound sits between Tame Impala and King Gizzard, and they are definitely worth a listen.
