No way you’re listening to the strokes during the only month we can’t stroke on our own 😔 Suggestion (Yes we’re still doing this Smadgie): SOAD - Hypnotize/Mezmerize
For sure dude, Hypnotize in particular I think it really explores some really interesting structures that every time I return to it, continue to surprise me.
"This is kinda dog shit..... nevermind" 🤣 I knew you were going to come around lol You should do This Is Happening by LCD Soundsystem. It's from 2010 and is arguably the finest record in their catalogue. Also, The Strokes - Room on Fire is a killer record.
excellent strokes album you reacted to. julians vocals are amazing on this album. recommend the legendary debut album from the arctic monkeys "whatever people say i am, thats what im not". they are very influenced by the strokes. one of the greatest indie albums ever. indie with a britpunk vibe. literal bangers on bangers on that album.
every arctic monkeys album would be ideal. not quite as spectacular as many of the albums he's done but a very consistently great discography nevertheless
bro you gotta check out The Voidz -Virtue, it’s julian casablancas’s (the vocalist from the strokes) other band, they go in a way more experimental and weird direction, it’s a very fun album to say the least
Massively recommend Third Eye Blind’s self-titled for some alternative rock vibes, and Parannoul’s After the Magic as it might be my album of the year the production is otherworldly. And more System of a Down of course
I listened to this album so much around the time it came out. Such a polished and easy to listen to experience. I also love how some of the more experimental sounds of the voidz found their way into this album with a more contemporary indie rock sound, which makes perfect sense with Rick Rubin at the helm of production.
Fuck yeah you reacted to this finally!! You should next do Virtue by julian’s other band, The Voidz. More similar to this album than any other strokes album
Joanna Newsom - Ys, Have One On Me , Divers Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues, Selftitled Father John Misty - Pure Comedy, I love you honeybear. The Microphones - Mount Eerie Swans - The Glowing Man, The Seer.
The chorus of bad decisions might be a bit repetitive. However, it's actually inspired by the 80's sing dancing with myself, which basically made the chorus fit pretty well since it had an 80s vibe overall
Hell yes this is one of my favorite albums of all time, the back half especially. I can’t wait to watch, just like I can’t wait to watch you react to blue rev by Alvvays, another one of my favorite albums of all time.
Yo, idk if you'll see this... but the singer here, Julian Casablancas, and a few other people that went by the name "The Voidz" made a song called "Human Sadness" roughly 10 years ago... It is 10 minutes long and it's a downright masterpiece! You should give it a listen
The start of ode to the mets is the same as the intro to the frontier index by the Silver Jews which is a fantastic track from their 1996 album 'the natural bridge' pretty much a slacker rock/indie rock classic.
I rely love 1,2,7,8 and especially nine I’ve listened to those songs like 30 times each. If you want more strokes Julian actually has some side projects check out The Voidz there two albums are rely good.
Recommendation: Talking Book - Stevie Wonder Lets Get It On - Marvin Gaye Bitches Brew - Miles Davis Live At Pompeii - Pink Floyd Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
also please react to the voidz - tyranny, its a side project by the strokes lead for his more experimental rock music. human sadness from that record is probably my favorite song ever.
I distinctly remember how cool it was, waiting for any news about The Strokes possible new album around 2019. Everyone was so deflated after Comedown Machine,as if the band was done and Julian was gonna focus entirely on The Voidz...and then me,alongside everyone else, heard The Adults Are Talking and Ode To The Mets live for the first time, and all doubt about this being an all-timer disappeared. It was a long 9 month wait, but sure enough it didn't disappoint. It's telling of the record's quality that some people's biggest criticism is that Bad Decisions sounds "too much like one of their classics",like it's a bad thing that it's a little derivative. My pick for underrated track is definitely Selfless,Julian's vocals are immaculate here, and I can't help to scream along, especially near the end. If I can suggest another record,it would be "You're living all over me" by Dinosaur Jr.!
really good album "the adults are talking" has got to be one of their best, if you like them you'd probably like arctic monkeys. their first three albums are their best imo but every one is very interesting
I got so excited once i saw this video in my recommended. This is my favourite album by my favourite band, so glad to see you reacting to it smags! Ode to the mets is legendary
Big fan of the channel, I have a few suggestions for future videos: 'Strange Mercy' by St Vincent: A really interesting pop artist who's worth checking out, and i feel like this is her best album to start with 'Faith in Persona' by Death's Dynamic Shroud: My favourite DDS album and my favourite album of 2021 (tied with one other record). This one is a lot more pop focused than 'I'll Try Living Like This', but their sampling and production is unbelievable and the songs on this album are some of the catchiest I've ever heard, a lot of earworms on this record for sure. 'As the Love Continues' by Mogwai: The other album that I have tied as my favourite from 2021, this is a great introduction to the band and a great post rock album. It might mot be as complex as God Speed You Black Emperor, but it's a really powerful album with no skips. 'Depression Cherry' by Beach House: My favourite Beach House era is their early albums, but this one is gorgeous too. And also 'III' by Crystal Castles
i have 3 recommendations for today: room on fire by the strokes, preacher’s daughter by ethel cain and sometimes i sit and think, sometimes i just sit by courtney barnett. and i think you should do them or else my uncle will have to get involved
I usually write a meme in these comments but I got a story for this one. Its 2020, I'm working my first job with a buddy, he tells me about this band he likes, the strokes, I said "oh yeah they mr. Brightside guys right?" He laughed and said no, played The Adults Are Talking on the ride home, I've been a fan ever since. I saw them in 2022 open for the red hot chili peppers and it was an awesome show. I havent seen or talked to that guy in a while, but I always think of him when I hear that song. Good video Smagsworth
my favorite strokes albums are at the bottom of most ppls list: first impressions of earth & angles. if you react to either that would be so hype. i promise they are very good.
Nice to see you got around to this one. Since you listened to fishmans, if you're interested in more experimental japanese music, you might wanna check out Shinsei Kamattechan's Tsumanne. Distorted and all over the place, pretty much the opposite of long season lol, but maybe you'll like it.
still loving the videos my guy a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
Throw some more King Gizzard into the mix! I recommend one of their 2022 albums: Laminated Denim, a super concise 2 song 30 minute jamfest. Super fun, doesn't waste your time, each song is its own mini journey. Just a great album in my opinion
I would really like to see a BATTLES mirrored reaction there is no other band that come close to sounding like them i think it would be a very interesting reaction to see.
Good video IDK if you mess with heavy stuff but I selfishly request Gods County by Chat Pile. It's brutal, scary, gross, makes me want to lift ALL the weights but also curl up in a dark room
Great reaction! I like this album a lot Recs: California by Mr Bungle, Windswept Adan by Ichiko Aoba, Endtroducing by DJ Shadow and Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood
Check out the live acoustic version of Lover You Should Have Come Over from Japan. The studio version cannot compare. Also, when are you going to do Sketches? He never got to finish the album but what he left behind is simply brilliant.
you should react to "Zeros" by declan mckenna! very 80's sound with incredible guitars and great lyrics. declans performance on every song is legendary
You should check out Youd Prefer an Asteonaur by Hum, huge inspirational band to other bands like Deftones. You might also enjoy reacting to Parachutes or A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay
God everyones reaction to the start of Ode To The Mets is always the same and it's always so hilarious
Brad’s specifically comes to mind
19:18
Brad’s is so funny lol
Ik I’ll never understand why they start it like that but at this point I know what comes next and I’m ok with it 😂
@@xanApfelif you watch the official video, maybe it makes sense 😂 beautiful song
"this is kinda dogshit ngl"
...
"nvm"
literally everyone's first reaction to ode to the mets lmaooo
19:38 “this is kinda dogshit bro” famous last words
He changed his mind real damn quick after that haha
"Drums please fab"
And the rest is history
No way you’re listening to the strokes during the only month we can’t stroke on our own 😔

Favorite worst nightmare is amazing too somewhat similar vibe to the first album but a little more cleaned up not as raw
Great recommendation, one of the best debut albums ever too
every arctic monkeys album would be ideal. not quite as spectacular as many of the albums he's done but a very consistently great discography nevertheless
one of the albums by one of the bands of all time
couldn’t agree more
Please check out David Bowies final album, Blackstar.
+1 blackstar is fucking amazing
The transition to Jeff Buckley 😭😭😭
bro you gotta check out The Voidz -Virtue, it’s julian casablancas’s (the vocalist from the strokes) other band, they go in a way more experimental and weird direction, it’s a very fun album to say the least
A 10/10 listen for me. I loved every song and Eternal Summer is one of my personal fav Strokes songs
"this is dogshit bro" famous last words
Massively recommend Third Eye Blind’s self-titled for some alternative rock vibes, and Parannoul’s After the Magic as it might be my album of the year the production is otherworldly. And more System of a Down of course
Everyone please reply "this" or "real" here so he'll do it!! (third eye blind)
Doodoodoo doo-doodoodoo
This
Day 6 of requesting Promises by Pharoah Sanders
Also Ode to the Mets has to be one of my favorite tracks of all time
this and karma
I listened to this album so much around the time it came out. Such a polished and easy to listen to experience. I also love how some of the more experimental sounds of the voidz found their way into this album with a more contemporary indie rock sound, which makes perfect sense with Rick Rubin at the helm of production.
Always felt like this album had no business being as good as it was
You should do Room on fire by the strokes and the voidz record Virtue. Both fantastic quality albums with Julian Casablanca
Yessiiirrrrr I love the strokes
Recs: Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In People
Fuck yeah you reacted to this finally!! You should next do Virtue by julian’s other band, The Voidz. More similar to this album than any other strokes album
The Strokes: hey, remember hearing tracks by musicians? Who make music instead of performance content.
Who will cut our hair when we're gone - the unicorn's please!!! It will be the wackiest indie pop/rock you'll ever hear.
You uploaded this just as I was listening to Selfless
Still recommend Kings Of Leon: Youth And Young Manhood. Especially if you likes the first Strokes album. They opened for them and were close friends
Joanna Newsom - Ys, Have One On Me , Divers
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues, Selftitled
Father John Misty - Pure Comedy, I love you honeybear.
The Microphones - Mount Eerie
Swans - The Glowing Man, The Seer.

Chocolate and Cheese - Ween
Rain Dogs - Tom Waits

Repeater - Fugazi
🙂
The start of ode to the mets is the same as the intro to the frontier index by the Silver Jews which is a fantastic track from their 1996 album 'the natural bridge' pretty much a slacker rock/indie rock classic.
Such a great album. Do you prefer natural bridge or American water? Personally I gotta give it to the natural bridge
@@bugginout8797 I also like natural bridge more. I like the darker sound. I still think american water is fantastic though.
I rely love 1,2,7,8 and especially nine I’ve listened to those songs like 30 times each.
If you want more strokes Julian actually has some side projects check out The Voidz there two albums are rely good.
the baseline to at the door is definitely similar to revenge lmao, great vid as always :)
SMAGS react to This is Happening by LCD Soundsystem I know you didn’t like the last one but don’t give up on them yet
Seconded, This Is Happening is one of the best records of that decade and the best thing LCD did, miles clear from the rest imo.
Hell yeeee! Third eye blinds - self titled for the early 2000s peeps! 🙏
If you like this, id suggest checking out Virtue by The Voidz, same lesd singer but super experimental.
If you’re going to continue with The Strokes I heavily recommend Room on Fire!
probably their best album in my opinion, super happy you got around to this one
GIRL WITH FISH BY FEEBLE LITTLE HORSE PLEASEEEE
Recommendation:
Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
Lets Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
Live At Pompeii - Pink Floyd
Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

Yo an album that doesn't get enough praise is STRFKR - Starfucker (2008). That shit is up your alley
If I had to pick one STRFKR album I'd prefer Reptilians, but yes!

one of my favorite albums of the last few years, been a big fan of the strokes for a long time and this album felt like a return to form
