a small release little movie named Galveston based on a novel by first season True Detective writer Nic Pizzolatto starring Ben Foster and Lili Fanning used 13 as the song in the ending credits and it fitted the sleeper movie very well. that brought me to Big Star. amazing i missed this band as im a big replacements fan who were big fans of big star

I first heard the song in 1984. For at least 20 years I didn't realize that heaven Hill was referring to the whiskey.

First song I ever heard from these artists was “All mine”. It hit my ears just right. Still can’t get it out of my head.

This song is about Paul McArthney dying in a car crash in 66 after he picked up a girl after leaving a late night meeting with the Beatles. When she realized it was Paul she went into a frenzy which caused Paul to crash the car. You should watch the video for the song if you haven't seen it and then it will make sense.

I recommend reacting to Chloe dancer/crown of thorns by Mother Love Bone. It’s been called the Stairway of heaven of Grunge. Sadly the lead singer died before they made it big, the rest of the band recruited a new signer and became a small rock band called Pearl Jam.

Bowie described his Aladdin Sane album as 'Ziggy goes to America'. :) It's still Ziggy Stardust but more cynical and with a harder edge. :)

Good review of the most iconic band (and perhaps song) of the Shoegaze genre (and not "ambient" how I read it a lot of time, that's for hipster's hotel bar lounge) !!! I was always a fan of Brit Alt, Indy, cold, Goth genres ... What a "punch in your face" this Kevin Shield distorded, dissonant guitar sound ... And dont bother about lyric's, they have only importance in politic protest songs "à la Bob Dilan, or Ministry (I love this band so much, and Indus electronika too)" or in Depressive Suicidal Black Metal songs, listen to the music, let it grow on you or hate it ! In the Shoegaze genre my fav band was Lush, with Miki the lead singer, the very underated song (from their debut album) "when I die" it's such a great song, love it so much .... And oh surprise, I discovered that after a long stop, she ("my" Miki lol) has a new band, Piroshka, (with 3 other members from 3 well known bands from this genre (or near) ... 2 Lps now between 2015 and 2020, more grown up songs, but still the genre is here ... My debut was with Led Zep, Ten Years After, The Who, Deep Purple, and than I hated (and I am always) all this long time of Hair Metal genre ... Now in my older years, I am a fan of Extreme Black/Death/Doom/Stoner/Sludge Metal and of The Warning (ah la la, "my" Daniiiiiiiii !!!!!). So I subs here and will spread my hate of the super tech music from the japanese "robots" bands wich a lot of poeple are loving, "guitar heroes go home, it was once" !... Cool no ?
