- After listening to their well loved Debut "Is This It" I finally have returned to "The Strokes" Funnily enough I have now headed to their most latest work, with their 2020 release "The New Abnormal" With this 6th studio album I was hella keen to hear how the band had evolved. I had read so many comments from the subs saying this album was a winner and well if you can't tell by the title they were all right about that!
My name is Jack and I love music, in particular Hip Hop, I decided to make this channel as a way to engage with other music lovers and because there doesn't seem to be a lot of reaction channels on UA-cam...My goal has always been to be open to all types of music regardless of my love of Hip Hop, on this channel you can expect a rich array of genres. If you're keen to join me on my music journey then please subscribe, if you ever want to give your thoughts on an album or song that I have reacted to, then please do. Julian honestly has one of the coolest voices ever. I’m so happy you reacted to this!!!! Now… The Voidz next!
Yes, Jack should listen to Tyranny!!!!!!
that would be rad
I feel like the overlapping guitars in songs from "The Strokes" never get enough attention. They flow so seemlessly into each other while still playing two entirely different tunes. It's wild
As an unapologetically obnoxious Strokes fan for the past 22 years, this video makes me smile so hard. Love this dude.
Also, Room on Fire should no doubt be your next Strokes listen. It’s arguably just as good if not better than Is this it, and my personal favorite.
This album won grammy! And they deserves
crazy lockdown vibes off this one for me!💛
loool yes
handily one of the best albums this decade so far
Ode to the mets is one of the best songs i've ever heard
low-key one of the best songs I have ever heard too
The album cover is a work by Jean-Michel Basquiat titled "Bird on Money".
Best Strokes record and Top 5 Indie-Rock Albums for me. Such a masterpiece. I still listen to it on a regular basis, especially during summer.
What are the other 4 I’m curious
I completely agree this is easily one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time and has such a nice warm summer feel to it.
The first time I listened to ode to the Mets might honestly be one of my favorite music experiences ever, felt full body chills at the end too. Something that honestly rarely if ever happens.
one of the best songs I have heard all year
Julian's falsetto is insane on this album. When you think back to old Strokes albums, that falsetto is unimaginable. Julian's singing style has evolved so much. When he first started experimenting with it, I didn't know what to think because it was so different, but now I absolutely love it. I think every single Strokes album is worth listening to. Also, I wonder what you would think of Albert Hammond Jr.'s (the lead guitarist) solo stuff. You can really get a feel for exactly what he brings to the signature sound of The Strokes. Mutual Beatings is a great song to start with. Also, nice ear with the samping/references. They reference many bands from Joy Division, to Billy Idol. The lyric "making bad decisions" is a spin off of "dancing with myself" by Billy Idol. The Stroke have been one of my favorite bands since my very first listen. The impact they had on mainstream music at the time of their debut is undeniable. I'm always excited to see someone who is as in love with their music as I am. Please react to more Strokes albums. Every album is worth listening to.
Is This It and The New Abnormal are, in my opinion, the best two albums they've released, they are almost flawless. Two incredible records. Room on Fire is close, and FIOE and Angles have their high points. From your reaction, I'd tell you to check out Comedown Machine, it's the closest they've got to The New Abnormal imo
Definitely agree on this. I think Jack would definitely digg comedown machine with the slow songs spread over that album. Happens to be my favourite strokes album too.
Bad Decisions is very similar to Dancing With Myself which is the Flushed Away opening credits
fun fact: billy idol actually has writing credits on bad decisions just because of how similar the chorus is!
Iv been a massive strokes fan from the start and I will admit I kinda had accepted they were passed it.. This album is absolutely blew me away and I’m so happy for the guys.. this is a masterpiece and arguably their best… a few years later this album is even better.
Same. I enjoy most of their later stuff, but I accepted their best work was behind them years ago. Somehow, I didn’t even hear that they had made a new album until 2023! I couldn’t believe how good it was, totally blew me away. ROF is my favorite album, but this is easily tied 2nd for me with Is This It. That first listen was so emotional for some reason, it felt like being reunited with your best friend after not seeing them for years.
I saw the strokes live at "ain't no picnic" festival in LA and they played bad decisions and let me tell you, it was just as good as you described it. Everyone was singing and having a great time! Great review man, this is my favorite album of all time
I was there too! Excellent set, such an amazing night
Honestly one of my favorite albums. Listen front-to-back or in a shuffle, all the songs stand on their own. The production and mixing, the duelling guitar riff and solos... and my god, Julian's vocal performances are sublime
The song Bad Decisions lifts from “Dancing with Myself” from Billy Idol.
My life was not the same after listening to this album for the first time (specially Ode to the mets). It got out almost 4 years ago and there hasn't been a day that i dont listen to at least one of these songs. They are just so much better than anything you hear. And it takes so many elements from like Daft Punk, Tame Impala while keeping the the strokes elements present. I still haven't found a better album than this one. I also love the debut from Arctic Monkeys because of its rawness and how young they were, but the New Abnormal is just on onother level and watching people listening to it for the first time remindes me of how good it really is. Can't wait for their next album
this reaction really made me smile. thanks for doing this, one of my fav albums ever.
no worries, your comment made me really smile!
The album cover is an original piece from an American artist named Jean-Michel Basquiat.
He was very popular in the Brooklyn art scene in the 80’s and was once seen as Andy Warhol’s protege. He died of a heroin overdose in 1988.
Basquiat’s estate approved the band’s use of the piece.
I’m sure them being from NYC was a big factor in it getting approved, as the Strokes also made a huge impression on the same city when they quickly rose in popularity in the early 2000s
34:36 so that writing says "para morir"
It means "to die" in spanish, its used to express when something is so good you would do anything to obtain it, its such a good album its worth dying for it
As someone who truly loves watching album reactions because I just love seeing people experience albums that I hold dear to my heart for the first time..this was fucking mint man. Had a stupid grin on my face the whole time watching this. Bravo
This album finally felt like The Strokes. Is This It was such a success that they focused so much on recreating that, meanwhile their identities changed and they matured as musicians, yet were hesitant to change their approach to the point where it drove a rift between the group. It was so nice to see them come back together to create what they wanted as a group and inject a little bit of them all into each track. Everyday since this album’s release I’m hoping and praying for another record from them that’s created in the same light.
And another amazing reaction! Thank you. I think you need to listen to the voidz (+ Julian Casablancas), for me their album "Tyranny" is great, hope you like it too
He needs to listen to Human Sadness at LEAST.
Seriously my guy, the best reaction to this album on youtube. The way you let the music play run from section to section, love your reaction.
favorite reactor reacting to my favorite album
legend!
This is my favorite strokes album and one of my favorites from the 2020’s
This and Comedown Machine are my favorites from The Strokes, but it’s honestly so hard to pick favorites when they’re all bangers
Comedown machine is seriously underrated it's my second favorite after TNA also.
loving these reaction videos jack
HANL is so good, I still have hope they’ll eventually make more projects.
Nobody’s mentioning it from what I can see. The tune you recognized in Bad Decisions was in Flushed Away. Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol is directly referenced in the chorus. Billy Idol has credits in the song
Eternal Summer is a ride! Easily one of my favorites from this album.
Why Are Sundays So Depressing is my favorite tho
Lol...your face when you looked into the camera, when the outro bit of eternal summer popped 😂
Amazing reaction!!!! Really enjoying the music
Excellent album, for me the best of the band. and what it says on the cover is "to die for" Pd: your reactions are the best.
thank you so much!
Love your reactions. Glad you appreciated this album as much, if not more, than I did.
First time listening to the strokes, and it was great! Keep up the good work with these videos.
Btw, on Bad Decisions the riff you were thinking of from Flushed Away is "Dancing with Myself" by Billy Idol. The riff is taken directly from that song and they credited him for it
It was great! It was very fun to see how you react to this amazing album, thank you very much
I listened to this a month ago and it became one of my new favorite albums and i thought, wow i wonder if jack reacted to this
MY FAVORITE ALBUM LESSGOOOO
Amazing album!!
Love this album, "Why are Sundays so depressing?" is easily my favorite, btw what headphones do you use?
Looks like the audio technica R70x open backs
Audio technica R70x :)
Room on fire next!!
In Bad Decisions you talk about that "Festival-esque" vibe of the album and u are so right.. I went to their Lollapalooza Chile 2022 show and they just opened with Bad Decisions. It was such an amazing vibe.. crowd going crazy, singing, making so much noise, jumping.. I recommend you to check that show on youtube, I guarantee you will get goosebumps!
Anyways, i love your reactions.. u really appreciate and feels the good music and I hope you can react to their entire discography, there are so many gems and legendary songs.
Wow that would have honestly been incredible, they cam to Aus last year but I didn't know them ..kicking myself now
They had to give writing credit to Billy Idol for Bad Decisions because the chorus sounded like Dancing with Myself. I personally think it sounds like Modern English’s Melt with You.
I’m not a fan of that song or other ones like Brooklyn Bridge that sound like nothing BUT a pastiche of other songs.
@@granthuling3235 Surely the whole point of The Strokes is taking nostalgic sounds and modernising them? Both Angles and Comedown Machine also have a lot of new wave influence. Just listen to The Voidz if you're wanting something more contemporary and experimental
They did
SYSTEM OF A DOWN - TOXICITY NEXT PLEASE. DOPE REACTION VID BTW AND I HAD THAT EXACT REACTION WITH ODE TO THE METS
Never noticed the Glory Days connection! Totally hear it now
Saw them live in Hong Kong and it was a dream come true
Man, genuinely happy you got to this album :) thanks for sharing your reaction
My pleasure!!
So happy you reacted to this! Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed!
There is a certain comfort in seeing someone develop the same love that I have for a piece of art
This band is so special && paramount to my teenage high school experience. I honestly heard this album until last year && the sound && lyrics illustrate how far they’ve all come. A talented bunch. You never disappoint, Jack. I wish to see you react to Björk :)
Thank you so much! Gotta get back to Bjork soon far out what an artist!
One of the handful of albums that got me through 2020
Heya man I just binged your whole channel. Safe to say you got my sub, you're super entertaining! Cheers
Welcome aboard!
Such a great album
more the strokes pleaseee
Thank you for this reaction Jack. I have been a huge fan of this album since it came out, but this reaction made me fall in love all over again. Artwork is titled "Bird on Money", it's a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Thanks for the video man.
My pleasure!!
Jack you have to listen to the band Interpol, i recommend listening to either Antics or Turn on the Bright Lights by them
This album is sooo good
First impressions of earth should be next
would be awesome to see you reacting to the album "trench" by twenty one pilots, pretty sure you'd like it
I second this
Bad decisions sounds very similar to dancing with myself by Billy idol, that may be where you remembered it from.
The album cover art is a piece from the artist Basquiat. The album was produced by the legend, Rick Ruben.
Oh good! I thought it was just made to resemble Basquiat
You got to do virtue by the voidz next..
Brilliant album
My favorite album of theirs
Loving the reactions! when's the next Arctic Monkeys coming?? - Interested to hear your take on Humbug.
please do the voidz!
yup, it was a grammy winning album for a reason
Love the strokes, it would also be cool if you could do a foo fighters listen along
You must do The Voidz
Great reaction. Great album. Please try “I Love You Jennifer B” by the British duo Jockstrap. They have an interesting energy, two distinct styles in one band. It’a a 2022 album. Give it a go!
When I die I hope I die after Julian so I can have heard all his music and projects masterclass
JACK IS BACK 😁
hell yeah!
You can tell his reaction completely changing when At The Door started playing. He knew this one was gonna hit him hard and just laid back instead of dancing around lmao.
There is not a bad song on this album I enjoy every single one although the first and the last are my two favorites.
Hello, I went through your channel and I see that you react to different albums, I would like to recommend you and react if you can to the following album: Untrue by Burial, it is an album from the undergrown dubstep and garage scene, it is quite deep and introspective and something dark, it's my favorite album, I recommend listening to it at night.
All The Strokes's albums are 💯
Listen to the wall of eyes by the smile
Would love to see what you think of the band, The Cure
This was amazing, would you react to Room On Fire by The Strokes?
Maybe one day on the channel, have heard some good things about that one!
To me, strokes finally decided to stop trying to make their debut album again and finally just made whatever they felt like making. One of my favorite albums of all time.
absurd take. every single album distances itself more from the first one.
More like people stopped wanting them to re-hash Is This It and actually started to appreciate what they were doing currently
The 2nd album was literally the only one that sounded like the debut
Bro is clueless
just room on fire sounds like the first one tbh
Jack please do Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. It’s up there as my fav 90s alt-rock/grunge album more than Nirvana
Their other tuff i great a well, very clear evolution into their modern sound. My Favourite other album would probably be "Comedown Machine"
The cover of the album says "Para Morir", "To Death" in spanish
17:20 you're probably referring to the song "Dancing with myself"
man, you should listen to dummy from portishead
Can you give YES a try? Listen to And You And I from the Close To The Edge album, studio version is preferred.
Or just the entire album. Album title track is def the best tho
Why Are Sundays So Depressing and Ode To The Mets are the best songs I've ever heard from The Strokes
"This is such a feel-good album."
Next track: At The Door
😂
hahaha
you should react to comedown machine (by them), its a not well appreciated album and rlly is worth a listen
Jack would deffo appreciate that album. Those ballets on there just hit diffy. My favourite album of theirs. Along with this one.
THE VOIDZ NEXT
This is a bit off topic but if you could listen to OK Human by Weezer I would really appreciate it. I feel like it got kind of swept under the rug in terms of reactions and it’s one of their best and is really unique compared to some of their other ones.
I’m that edge lord who prefers First Impressions of Earth
Great band, also check out THE HIVES new album. The Death Of Randy Fitzimonns.
loveless - mbv
React to Sunburn by Dominic Fike. The full album🙏🙂
I do indeed believe Flushed Away was the sole inspiration for this album 😂
hahahah knew it
First
