  • Traditional method for cooking steel cut oats. Cooking time is 30 to 40 minutes, but reheated steel cut oatmeal has about the same flavor and texture as freshly made oatmeal so you can prepare a weeks worth and reheat it 1 to 2 minutees in your microwave oven. Minimally processed steel cut oats has more flavour and firmer texture compared to rolled oats.

I am glad I saw this video. I ran out of the Rolled-Oats, which I usually cook. Which is 1 cup Rolled-Oats to two cups water. I started cooking the Steel-Cut-Oats just like if they were Rolled-Oats. And decided to check out a video. Added two more cups of water just now! It is gonna be a big batch of oatmeal! :)

1 cup of steel-cut oats makes about 4 servings depending on serving size. You can increase or decrease the amount of water and cooking time to adjust the texture and consistency.

How you have 1K views and less than 5 likes is beyond me. People should have at least shown their appreciation by giving you a "like".

MrBeatboxmasta Thank you for your comment. Steel cut oats is relatively new to most people and not as popular as quicker cooking rolled oats.

You're welcome. Microwaved oatmeal is fast but it can create a mess.

No way, remove oats & coconut after it comes to boil. cover 15 minutes with towel.
    server at a thin consistency.

Many factors affect cooking time; brand of oats, burner power, type of pan, desired texture, etc. One brand of steel cut oats cooks in 3 minutes. The brand I buy takes 30 to 40 minutes. Recipes are a guideline only. The important thing is sticking with what works for you. Thank you for your comment.

Excellent. I was just hoping that my faster cooking time, is not going to result in intestine injury or health problems. If it is all safe and still healthy, I will continue on, just don't want to do something that is not healthy....thanks!

People have been eating partially cooked oats in breads, cookies, and muffins for years with one ill effects. Enjoy.
