No sarcasm, no downgrading of others. Honest, humble, generous.
He wasn't always so generous in his opinions.
This man created a supergroup of international musical legends easier than I can get my kids to the dinner table. Inimitable.
I really love your comment 😄 🤣
@@juanita6479 I'm glad, hope you got a little giggle cos we need more joy in the world 🙏🧡
@@xxkissmeketutxx Oh yes you said it wisely, we certainly need it. Nice weekend!! ☺
I love this.
Yes, that's so cool!
Listening to George is like listening to a wise uncle gently stripping away your doubt and anxiety
Very well said.
VERY TRUE, HE WAS BETTER THAN LEMON & MCARTNY
athole1954 some of his tracks yeah, but on the whole i think they’re all equal in their own ways
@@athole1954 "Lemon" lmao
Well said
What a gentle soul George was , quiet intellectual and calm .
Agree!!
Didn't someone break in his house and stab him and then George held the guy down until the police arrived....so.. nice guy but he'll whoop ya! Haha
He was wonderful but he was also a bit difficult as his songwriting skills became better and he wanted his songs included on Beatles albums. He wrote some great songs but wasn’t in the same league as Paul and John. He was the best guitarist in the band during the Beatles period.
And one he'll of a guitar player!
G’s wife helped catch the intruder …
George was such a mellow, kind-hearted down-to-earth guy. A brilliant songwriter who is truly missed.
well said
I was going to say "well said" until I saw Cathy beat me to it so I'll go with "couldn't have said it better myself".
@@sandydog291
Ditto, ditto.
Yes, I Totally Agree. May He Rest in Peace. God Bless.
Except he was probably expecting it to happen which sometimes isn’t any less annoying. Just a thought different than every other comment already written that I agree with.
Not having their names on the first album didn’t fool anybody. Their voices were so distinctive .
You'd think that somebody being In the biggest band In the world would have an ego to match but fame never changed him. I wish we still had people like George making good music, If only he knew how much the world misses him, I know I do
I grew up with the Beatles while they were together and they're still at the top of my list and George was and remains my favorite Beatle. I guess I'm one of a few million original Beatlemaniacs and being that means I love all of those guys but you're kidding yourself if you think that George didn't have an ego. George always had a certain guarded arrogance about him and if you pay attention you can see it in this video of him in certain subtle ways. He still knows the importance of being gracious... after all he is British and he was, at least, one of four of the most famous and most rcogniozed people on the planet for more than a decade. Even Eric Clapton, one of Georges oldest and closest friends, said that George was very "contrary" which is a very big deal because you never hear Clapton say anything even remotely negative about anyone.
Fame certainly did change all four of those guys but not necessarily in ways that anyone would expect or that would necessarily seem obvious.
Of all four ex Beatles he had the least patience for anything he considered nonsense or foolishness in people he didn't know... especially the press and crazed fans. He certainly did have a big ego and I'm in no way putting him down for it but it's a fact.
Ludwig Fan we miss him and need him dearly
Fame changed him greatly - it lead him to God.
Ludwig Fan What George knew was the love from fans and his peers. In a musicians mind, it's all about collaborations with their favorite musicians. I think he much preferred those projects than he ever did with The Beatles.
mrfester42 As Paul McCartney said, “He did not suffer fools easily”.
I think what sets Harrison apart from most other musicians is the fact that he was so grounded...he wasn't flashy...he wasn't an egomaniac...he never changed...all he ever wanted was to be a musician and be successful...he achieved greatness by just being himself and not putting on any airs...we were so lucky to have him for as long as we did.
There’s no other like George Harrison. He proved to be the most talented and humble of the Beatles.
I wish I could have talked to him about his transformation and his beliefs. Love you George 😢💕
And then he decided all he wanted to do was be a gardener!
@@davecostello560 I guess when your that successful you can do whatever you choose.
Yes we were lucky to have him for as long as we did and I know all things must pass but I just wish he was still here
Absolutely spot on, George was George, plain and simple, what you saw was what you got, my favourite musician, sadly lost.
He is probably the humblest celebrity the world has ever known. R.I.P George.
Him and Petty both were…probably why they were such close friends…no pretentious Hollywood horse shit, just pure rock n roll
Another humble genius, Jeff Lynne. 🥰
Roy Orbison: "Well if you do do something call me. I'd like to come along and watch." That's priceless!
In other interviews George tells the same bit of the story and adds "you're not gonna have Roy Orbison just sitting there, best voice of all of us, so I wrote a line for him"
@@simonandrewx 2:35 He said it here too.
If Chuck Berry asks you to call him when you do do something and he’d like to watch, it means something totally different. He’d still like to record it though.
@@flaviuscountry hahahahahha
Hard to believe this interview occurred 31 yrs. ago - how time flies.
Just love George’s modesty and kindness. An absolute giant in the music business who could have been so different with his ego. A beautiful looking man and an inspiration to all of us ❤️🎸
George was the man, but his ego definitely got the better of him in some interviews. He has his moments of being incredibly salty towards Paul which is a betrayal of his "love everybody" mantra.
george is humble and elegant.
I agree Rick....
George reminds me of those friends who have a genuine, sincere appreciation and love! Forever missed!

George was not the quiet one, he was the articulate one. Beautiful voice.
He was the wise one.
He was quiet in the sense that he only said what needed to be said.
Maurice Gibb of The Bee Gees was exactly like this! R.I.P. Mo and George.
'articulate' ....SPELLED EXACTLY AS IT SOUNDS....
They are all articulate.
The only thing greater than this man's pioneering guitar prowess was his wonderful spirit.

Agree!!
George shows so well in every interview it is ridiculous. I could listen to him all day long for weeks.
If only he knew how much the world misses him.... that’s beautiful
I really miss George. Such a talented musician and so down to earth.
You can clearly tell how much personal relationships meant to George.
What a beautiful man. So open and mature. Great interview.
He was, a serious and intelligent man. Lennon, McCarthy and Harrison....surely never again.
I always say: George 3rd greatest in rock history...also 3rd greatest in Beatles. That will never happen again. George was LEADER with Dylan, Orbison, Petty, Lynne. That qualifies as 3rd greatest in history...only to John and Paul. Beatles will never happen again. Also Lennon being Lennon while in the Beatles. Lennon's group. Wilbury's George's group. Stupefying. I spent my life marveling them. That's the fun of it.
Amen.😪
He's a good guy
He's a Beatle and don't have to entertain any of this. Class act.
George was naturally the coolest damn guy. Just so effortless, he can't help it. I hope he was as serene as he appeared. Beautiful guy. The world was lucky to have him. I'm grateful to him for just existing. Listen to how articulate he is--the cat dropped out of school way early, has very little formal education, just naturally bright as hell. Brilliant.
George's genius just gets better through time. He was always so humble.
"We're going to remain anonymous as long as possible"*Orbison starts to sing*"OK, never mind about that."
That goes for all five of them, non of them of them can not open their mouth, singing or even just talking, without immediataly knowing who it is. All have very distinct voices.
Wot?
@@albertanglo Listen to Roy Orbison's singing voice if you can't understand this...
@J L Bob's? Definitely
i love watching George Harrison's interviews ... mellow and witty
I agree. Loved his dry sense of humor. George and Paul were curious how the recordings were going on The Beatles 1st album. George Martin escorted the two to the engineer booth. "Let us show you what we have so far. If there's something you don't like, just speak up and we'll address it," instructed their producer. George Harrison, "Well I don't like your tie, for starters."
Such an elegant, sweet man. He is sorely missed.
I remember very clearly the first time I heard “Handle With Care” on the radio. I thought - “What the heck is that!!??” I of course recognized all of the voices but couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that all of those guys made a record - and a fantastic record to boot.
Just hearing him tell the story of how they all came together - I could feel an involuntary grin stretch across my face.
There was a lovely zoom the camera man made at that moment as well
George was an incredibly talented musician and one of the most underrated guitarist of all time.
Agree!!!!
Eric Clapton said that to my friend
George is my favorite guitarist.
@@candylee4684 He may not be the fastest or most technical guitarist on the planet, BUT, his creativity is unparalleled.
The best are always underrated.
George was one of the greats. He is dearly missed as is Roy and Tom.
I recall George was considered the “Sweet One” of the Beatles. I failed to appreciate him fully at the time. He was so unassuming and without affectations, and he had such a calm and reassuring understanding of life -- and death
Now I’m totally blown away by the Traveling Wilburys and how relaxed and natural these artists seem to be. They make their beautiful music appear so effortless. They simply move their fingers and mouths, as easy as most people smile, and we are given musical treasures to cherish.
Always loved George since the very early Beatles days....so humble and so honest, so truthful...
It must have been refreshing for him to not have to talk about the Beatles for once.
Amen!
@kwenzini Supposedly agreed on forehand?
Only idiots ask him about the Beatles. Besides it's insulting when they do, given his solo work in music , producing music and film.
@@R---66---R probably
@@glassonion5474 not to mention, it made him upset ...george was already not happy as a "beatle", so he never wanted to talk about that
Roy Orbinson "I'd like to come along and watch" :D
Well, for Roy, George and Dylan were young whippersnappers, and Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty were pretty much schoolboys. So he probably thought it was cool to hang out with the young guys.
I’m not expecting a reply from two years ago but Tom was near on 40 when he collaborated on this. Already an accomplished musician with many years previous to the wilburys . George was maybe only 6 years his junior. I wouldn’t take too lightly to a 51 year old man referring to me as a schoolboy when I was nearing 40. You made Roy sound a bit of a has been. He was already buddy’s with Jeff, so already “hanging out” with the “young guys”, as you put it. Roy was smart enough to know he would place himself amongst some of the finest that day. They gravitate towards each other simply because they are/were all beautiful souls who appreciated one another’s tremendous musical abilities. No one trying to be cool here.
j. one-three. I think the guy was just joking around bud. But age is relative. John thought George was a baby and he was like 2 years younger than him.
@@JStarStar00 They were and are just great people getting together with their music. Their + our ages are irrelevant in life. Enjoying life without analysing is key
@@missp5152 Absolutely.
'And I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that, now'.
George is doing everything a record co and promotion company would advise against. Direct answers with no pretense. NO hyperbole, no attempt to SELL the product.
He’s so honest and has good eye gaze he has nothing to hide love this interview
When he was describing how they got together it was like Avengers Assemble
Hahaha great comment!
I could sit and listen to George all day he`s got a lovely voice , And I love the Wilburys.
Only George Harrison could talk about writing a song as terrific as ' Handle me with Care' & starting a group like The Wilburys like it was just another day ( no pun intended). That's "Beatle George" for you!!!

What a beautiful man, sophisticated, wise, sensible and talented! I love George!
I love George. Completely unpretentious. He was exactly what he seemed. Didnt care about fame, just the music. He seemed to be a man who knew exactly who he was. A very dry wit. Says what he thinks. Miss him

Wonderful footage. So impressed with George's humility and his ability to be so verbally articulate and expressive.

I'm impressed with your ability to patronise a songwriting genius as verbally articulate.
Humility? No. Modesty and respectfulness? Absolutely. George has always praised people. He was a living Legend. Now he is a Legend who lived.🌈💖
I'm really growing to appreciate George Harrison more and more!!

This is certainly one of, if not the best interview with George Harrison.. His voice will forever calm me, so wonderfully articulate, precise, always thoughtful, honest, confident yet never arrogant or brash.. “Spike Wilbury,” such a gem!
I love George's understated, "I'm having a laugh on you", humor.
You can clearly tell how much personal relationships meant to George.
If only he knew how much the world misses him.... that’s beautiful
i love how George talks
He used to have a very strong Liverpudlian accent, but years ago, he decided to tone it
down. He obviously didn't like it.
Gillian Brookwell .....a true scouser would never try to "posh up" their own natural accent........our accent is unique....
@@gillianbrookwell1678 Don't be ridiculous. He left Liverpool in his early twenties and has lived amongst southerners and Americans for decades so naturally his accent has smoothed out and altered. It happens.
@@gillianbrookwell1678 so you think he purposely changed his accent cos he doesn’t like it?

For my money and in my humble opinion, The Traveling Wilburys first album was THE Best album of the 80s. One thing about George, as he said in 1966 that he only wanted to be successful not famous and again in his song "Cockamamie Business" "Didn't want to be a star, only just to play guitar", because he was always just so cool.
Better than Thriller ?
IMHO, both albums were brilliant. ALL KILLER, NO FILLER! And, no other band sounds like them. One mark of a truly great original band.

So incredible to hear. It's as if he is right there still and has never left us. He is such a straightforward man whom I respected and who was respected by his fellow musicians.....the ones that shared the bond of being A wilbury with no effort at all. And we get to hear them. Wow we have been lucky to have witnessed such a great musician,a great human being❤️🇨🇦
Thankyou George,we are honoured to have had your music. Love you! RIP my friend
You can tell that he’s SOOO fed up with interviewers after so many decades of fame, but he keeps plugging away because he has to promote his music. But it’s clear that he just wants to play his electric twanger and be left alone. Rest In Peace, Mr. Harrison.
George was a delightful human being--gentle, witty, kind-hearted, good-natured...I miss him!
John's music has his own character. The same with Paul. I love the achievements they made. After the Beatles I bought George's Album "All things must pass". After hearing George by himself and his friends, I turned around and went back to all the songs of the Beatles. Only then did I see how much musical influence he must have made to his fellow Beatles.
“I heard you wrote 14 songs in 2 days”
“No that’s an exaggeration, we wrote 2 songs a day for 5 days and 5 songs in one day”

Exactly,If you've seen/heard the interview for the first one George refused to be serious and in spots the interviewer tried, but he wasn't going to get serious except for non wilbury topics.( I will try to get specific examples soon)
Dale McCamish, I think you're right. What struck me about the Wilburys was that they were a bunch of ace musicians who got together once none of them had anything left to prove, so they just had fun. Fabulous band. I miss Roy, George and Tom.
I can’t stop listening and watching all these professional singers in a group. Amazing 🥰🥰🥰
George always had such an honest, giving, humble spirit. You can tell he loved the camaraderie of collaborating with other musical talent -- such a special soul. Greatly missed. Always was my favorite of the Fab 4.
Thanks for posting. George is so understated and so on target it's hard to imagine the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties without him. Gone but his shadow still falls on the earth.
Nice to know George appreciated Gary Moore so much.
Yes. I heard heard a tape recording of George when he arrived at the studio in LA, He asks the band if they ever heard of Gary Moore, he was absolutely blown away by Gary's guitar style. He went on to play with Gary Moore at the Barbican In London. It should be on you tube.

The interviewer didn’t do his home work and wasn’t prepared. George however did a brilliant interview with the questions he was given.
My favorite Beatle. Loved those big dark brown eyes. Sad he couldn’t stay.😥💋🎸🦋
No egos at all....just friendship and love for making great music!
Talk about the epitome of understatement!! George was such a sweet and humble man. But that's what made all of the Wilbury artists so good! Because they were so grounded, self-ware and more connected to the music than their egos, and they weren't worried about what others thought of them. They were in it for the song and for each other with the utmost respect for the talents of their fellow Wilburys. This is the sort of the thing that made the 80's such an amazing decade in music.
I got the sense that Mr Harrison wasn't fully consumed with enthusiasm for that pin.
My appreciation of George Harrison just went way up. Wonderful interview.

A few years ago, I was really lucky to see Dhanny stand in for his dad with ELO. Jeff and he did a few Traveling Wilburys' tunes, and Dhanny looked and sounded so much like George that it was quite emotional.
Wonderful interview with George Harrison about how the Traveling Wilburys got started! I miss hearing new music from Harrison, Orbison and the Wilburys!
Did not expect anything really !!!!!! How lovely just mates playing music enjoying together
George is in great form and willing to talk. Despite the dull and humorless (possibly overawed and scared shitless) interviewer, still a good interview.
The interview was kind of awkward but give the interviewer credit for steering clear of the Beatles, which of course was always a tempation with George -- undoubtedly many interviews ran aground when the interviewer veered back to the Beatles and George clammed up. I am sure the interviewer was told before the interview to stick to the Wilburys so his questions did get kind of stilted and monotonous.
rxp56 When you say that he was often solemn and sometimes hostile, I’m guessing you mean toward the press. Understandable.
George was a great guy --- he was probably so happy moving on from the Beatles. Hard to believe Bob is out-living all these guys. lol
