  • Pattie Boyd breaks her silence on her marriages to George Harrison and Eric Clapton in her 2007 autobiography, “Wonderful Tonight” which reads like a cautionary tale. A fairytale that at times felt more like a nightmare. She shares some delightful stories about the good days but as time goes on she describes some jaw dropping moments that provide insights into the dark side of living the rock and roll life in the 60’s and 70’s.

George was only incrementally a better husband. A spouse constantly cheating is no picnic to live with. He's addicted to variety and is not going to stop until he's dead. This is the demoralizing downside of involvement with a rich, famous, desirable man, and no woman is ever prepared for this aspect of daily life with such a man.

Fools alright! Patti just wanted to be a good wife with strong hopes to become a mother. Could it be karma? - Eric’s son passes away tragically & George is stabbed in the chest by an intruder in 1999, then dies (of cancer) in 2001. hmmm 🤔 So glad Patti has found happiness and a good life for herself ❤

When ever I have a friend or relative who is in a bad relationship, I always give them this quote by Maya Angelou. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Everyone needs to be taught this from an early age. Don't spend the best part of your life trying to fix a broken person. Go have a good life. I have read Patty's books and seen her do some interviews. Isn't it amazing how when she left this rotten men, (rich men) They didn't make sure she had money and a place to live. Billy Shears (William Shepherd) was then free to publicly marry the woman he had met and fallen in love with, Linda.
Personally, if this is how it all went down, I don't think Billy is the bad guy, as wonderful as Paul was. Billy Shears has given us a lot of great music.

I am stunned at how George treated Patty. Also, George and Maureen Starr? WOW ! Talk about betrayal. I read that when Patty was Finally finished with Eric, Patty had no money. That is when George paid Patty's rent for an apartment as long as she lived there. That is the least he could have done for her. I am glad Patty is finally doing well. I read that Patty attended Connor"s funeral. I also read that Eric said in an interview that as soon as Eric had Patty, he did not want her anymore. It was the pursuit that fed his feelings for Patty.

It will forever surprise me that people, men and or women, will take abuse or discontent from a person that professes to love them. It honestly makes no sense yet as a young woman I e done it too. I’m older now and consider marriage a game to most. Life isn’t meant to be “work” and we should only be with people that treat us and themselves with respect and appreciation. Why settle for less? And woman, find your own talents, skills, and careers without needing men for emotional and financial support. Ladies give up too much of themselves for men and it’s not reciprocated in most cases. In 1966 I looked just like Pattie Boyde, ( as a friend told me only last week) , a very big difference though. Thankfully, I have led a very quiet and conventional life. No drugs, ( ever ) , no drink , no smoking, etc, being completely faithful to my late husband. I'm just so grateful to still be alive at nearly 78.

Eric and George were immersed in it from an early age! When women were throwing themselves at them, they really looked at women as sexual commodities, as easy to get as the drugs and alcohol the used to excess. Eric was socially immature and awkward not someone a woman normally want to have a relationship with. George seems self absorbed.

But with so much fame, women have become for them the same as drugs and booze,

The book is: Miss O'Dell: My Hard Days and Long Nights with the Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Women They Loved.

That woman must really be something to attract the adoration of two rock super-star hotties like that! I wonder what she's all about?" After reading "Wonderful Tonight" I concluded that this woman - Pattie Boyd - was anything but happy in her relationships with these guys who were too self-centered, addicted and preoccupied to be in a healthy, happy romantic relationship. Much unlike many people, I have never seen clapton as being among the greatest of musicians, singers, songwriters. Good, yes. He can play. But he just never seems to be able to deliver the 'feel', the 'soul' of the music. When he copped the great songs of Bob Marley and J.J. Cale, he understood the total 'cool' and bluesy depth of their abilities and tried to copy it. But he never could measure up to what they brought to music.
That said, I never had any idea that these guitarists, all at the top of the rock pyramid, passed around and scrounged either others wives like snagging a cigarette out of the next guy's pack!
When I only hear one side of a story, I automatically discount it's validity by 50% until I hear the other side too. But even at that, much as I am still in awe at the musicianship that most of these guys achieved, I can now only muster a tiny fraction of respect for them - 'rock-n-roll lifestyle and all that" aside.

People like George Harrison and Eric Clapton have enviable musical talents but are generally just as flawed as everyone else. I find it particularly telling that George would envy the “holy men” not due to their wisdom or connection with any divine power but rather because of the young women they attracted.
