Best for heart health beyond good keto and fasting: vitamin from B group (B6, B9, B12), vitamin K2-MK7 and magnesium (against calcification), potassium, vitamin E (tocotrienols) and vitamin C (as antioxidant and part of the process of creating collagen). Highly recommend a book "A brief collection of unknown facts about vitamins and minerals" if you want to learn more. Greetings and thanks for another informative video doc!

Great programme as always, thx Doc. Now i had a high total cholesterol according to my Doc in my mid 30s. It was sitting at 5.8 here in the uk. I was told i needed to bring it down to a healthier level of 5 and below. So after a little research i chose eating aples and organic oats almost daily and increased my intake of avocadoes and cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. I also cut down on my butter muffins and pancakes. I am of a healthier weight of 63kg, 173 cms with somewhat okish diet. I had my tests retaken a year later and to my surprise the total number went from 5.8 down to 4.6. I did not go through anything extreeme. Now, 5 years later or so i am sitting at 5.2 with my HDL being 1.99. I just live my avocadoes and olive oil and i take it on empty stomach sometimes first thing in the morning. I also like my eggs. Anyhow, this worked for me.

You probably have to gradually build up your intake of niacin (in the form of nicotinic acid) to about 1000 - 2000 mg/day to achieve a substantial increase in HDL. I've done it. But the problem with niacin (besides the skin flushing, which is harmless but bothersome) is that you will possibly see a rise in blood sugar (i.e. higher HbA1c) and a rise in Homocysteine, which you don't want. If you can wrap your head around the idea that the consumption of fat, including saturated fat, is AOK, then indulge in that and your HDL will increase. Just be sure you are limiting your carb intake significantly as well.

It can look and feel somewhat like a sunburn, but it typically begins 15 to 30 minutes after taking niacin and only lasts for about an hour. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. In just 3 months my blood lipid labs went from "you are going to die in 7 days" to exceptional great results. It was like night and day. Best of all I feel amazing. Now I'm not diabetic, but definitely was showing signs of insulin resistance. 3 months ago fasting glucose was 105. Recently it was 100. Both are still slightly elevated but the trend is in the right direction. I've been doing a lot of HIIT and resistance training too. I'm aware that building muscle can reduce insulin resistance in the body. We appreciate you Doctor!

My total cholesterol went slightly up from 192 to 210, ldl stayed about the same around 110, hdl went up from 54 to 93 and triglycerides plummeted from 145 to 47. My doctor who follows the “standard of care”protocols still wants me to take a statin to get my total & ldl numbers down. 🤔

I was wondering what you were going to say, because I’ve been taking Niacin, thanks to my functional medicine doctor. So I’m happy to hear you say Niacin. Yes, my HDL has gone up and my ratio is now in the healthy range, although my total cholesterol hasn’t dropped much. I’ve also been intermittent fasting about 5 days per week (14-16 hours). My CT score went from 8 to 28 in 5 years. Now I need to focus on longer fasts and a more heart-healthy eating, to reduce the atherosclerosis. I wonder what my CT would’ve been, had I not been taking Niacin, baby aspirin and intermittent fasting. Thank you for all you do.
