Dr. Berry, I am consistently amazed at the quality of your video content. Thanks for giving, giving, giving. We truly appreciate your help and professionalism - especially since you are one of the rare people who are willing to admit they might not know everything and instead consistently do the research and look at the FACTS and studies. Thanks!
I am a living example that what you have said is absolutely true. At 70 years old, I feel much younger and am still enjoying life as I have been on Mediterean Clean Keto lifestyle for 2years. 5'8" 144 lbs BMI 22 , 15.6% body fat HDL 95 LDL-c 137. Have avoided PCSK9i inhibitors due to high HDL as more protective than my high LDL-C is problematic. Love your videos.
I went carnivore for a month and felt amazing. I went back to eating oatmeal and felt instantly depressed. I was shocked because I ate oatmeal every day for years. Had no idea.
Oatmeal boosts serotonin. There was a time when if I stopped eating oatmeal every day, I was immediately SUPER depressed. E-manganese by Standard Process also helps with depression.
My HDL went from 42 to 69 since I started carnivore last November. Triglycerides are down to 73, but would like that to lower a bit more. Still working on the fasting blood glucose. Can't seem to get it under 100 consistently. HA1C is dropping too.... 5.9 to 5.7, but that needs improvement also. Maybe all that will normalize once I get the rest of the weight off. 48 gone so far, 28 more to go. Thanks Dr. Berry for another great video.
I have had the same problem of getting my blood sugar under 100 consistently. What I believe is going on is that I've been doing this ultra low carb way of life for several years and my liver starts making sugar on its own. So what I've found to actually get my blood sugar to be lower by a good 15 to 18 points is to do two things daily: Do some arm weight exercises and also have just a tiny bit of carbs. When I have maybe two teaspoons of honey, it sort of tells my body not to start making sugar (gluconeogenesis is the term). These two things have helped. But I would still like to have waking blood sugar under 100 which seems almost impossible for me.
@@jonfragments3294 I'm pretty sure gluconeogenesis is not the problem, at least for me. Gluconeogenesis is a demand-driven reaction which occurs only when the body needs glucose. If my blood glucose is high, then gluconeogenesis will not take place. I think rather the problem is insulin insensitivity, but I haven't figured out the mechanism yet. I wish Dr. Berry would do a video on this. I'm reading everything on the Internet, but I haven't found an explanation yet. It is very baffling. I wonder if some people are just wired with a higher fasting blood glucose.
@@janesmith492 I think you’re right, that it’s just stubborn insulin resistance. I imagine that the carnivore way of eating with its attendant weight loss and insulin lowering abilities will do the trick. Incorporating exercise, getting good sleep and fasting always helps my fasting glucose, as well.
Just had bloodwork and my triglycerides were 58, HDL was 100! My doc said he hasn’t seen that in very many people! He said I had the right size of ldl which was also high. Try to do keto but mostly low carb and trying to get in that adequate animal protein daily...... work in progress. 58 year old female with autoimmune issues and I’ve finally lost the last 12 lbs this past year! Found you at the beginning of all this COVID craziness and so thankful I did! Enjoy Neisha’s channel as well! Also, I live just outside of Nashville 😁
I had my annual physical in Jan. after 5 months on keto. My HDL nearly doubled from 41 to 76 while my triglycerides dropped from 76 to 56. That means my triglyceride/HDL ratio, the best predictor for heart attacks and pre-diabetes, is less than 1 when just under 2 is good. I also take berberine.
I’m 70 years old. Female. Just got my test results after having a Lipid panel and A1C test completed yesterday. I am AFRAID to visit my doctor and I have cancelled appointments in the past. My test results were horrible. I feel like I should just go dig a grave and lay down in it. I’ve never been so discouraged in my life. I am probably 25 lbs over weight and my diabetic numbers are off the chart! Please set me on a path that will give me just a smidgeon of improvement so that I can believe in myself once again. My doctor appt is on the 29th and I’m praying for the Rapture to happen before seeing him. (Not joking)
I'm so glad you're sharing the truth about vaping. I have multiple family members who could ONLY quit smoking with a vape after years of failed alternative treatments. It is an amazing cessation tool. I constantly find people who think vaping is too dangerous, yet continue to smoke. We can all thank recent, aggressive tobacco industry propaganda for spreading misinformation about an amazing tool that was infringing on their market.
Thank you.. yes I am a vaper and it was the only way for ME to give up smoking 435 days no cigarettes...I was 45years a smoker and now I someday see like I was 20 again....
I raised my hdl to 50 after eating the fat off my steaks, cooking in bacon grease....and I have the bloodwork to prove it! My triglycerides stayed in a great range
Hello Dr Berry this video came in the right time for me... my HDL is 71 and my LDL is 274. So I will be working to get my HDL higher. Thanks very much, God bless you and your family.
After over 4 years on a very low carb diet, I spent three months occasionally eating high-carb meals while traveling and at conferences and through the holidays with carb-loving friends and family. I gained 16 pounds and my AC1 went from 4.2 to 5.8, just from those cheats meals several times a week. My doctor wants to put me on Metformin, but I said I was going to try to get things back to normal by going back to strict keto and taking berberine, a natural Metformin I had read. In one month I have lost 9 lbs and will be redoing blood work in six months to see other effects. your information and the links are very helpful because they are better sources than I had found myself on this topic. Thanks, Dr. Berry.
I'm 61 and my HDL has been 45 for forty years. My LDL has been all over the place, but my total cholesterol has never exceeded 177. After starting fish oil, one pill at night, here and there, and eliminating alcohol, my triglycerides have gone from 265 to 155. My doc was pleased. Working on raising HDL now with exercise and eggs, sunny side up (had to learn to like those). I tend towards a plant based diet though, so coconut oil is my saturated fat of choice. I put it in coffee and then don't eat solid food until noon or so. I've done away with processed carbs. My microbiome is better (IBS sufferer for years). Eating tubers, roasted or baked with the peeling, has done wonders, along with eating garlic and onions, for my gut. I eat a lot of pickles, olives, and kimchi and alternate greens with cruciferous vegetables to balance vitamins and minerals (darned phytates, oxylates, and lectins). Beans are my friend now, believe it or not, as long as I don't exceed 1/2 cup per day. And I feel best eating 1500 calories or less per day. A1C and glucose are both coming down, though I've never been diabetic, just overweight. It's slowly coming off. However, the best thing I ever did for my health was getting rid of the assholes in my life, except my own, of course. Meditation and gratitude take care of any strays that come around. They can't stand the higher frequencies.
Yes, but so often assholes are in the eye of the beholder. Every asshole I ever met behaved that way because they thought they were surrounded by assholes and therefore were justified in their behavior.
eliminating the alcohol is what fixed your triglycerides. I quit drinking 6 months ago and last week my triglycerides were 168. that's the first time they've ever been under 200 in my life.
I just received your book, "Lies My Doctor Told Me" this afternoon. My triglycerides have gone down tremendously but the HDL is staying low around 30. I've also lowered my glucose to normal and lost 25 lbs since Dec. Hopefully, the HDL will cooperate. Thanks for all you do.
My hubby's GP told him that it wasn't possible to increase HDL. There is too much conflicting information out there. Enough to make one's head spin. Thank you for your clarity.
Agreed. I do all the suggested steps mentioned above (except step 3 which is medium exercise 2-3 times a week) and my HDL will not move. It is stuck at 38.67 mg/dl (1 mmol/l). I wonder what I'm doing wrong. And ALL the others, that is national health agencies are so strongly putting out the message about "high cholesterol" and statins that it is hard to fight with the leading narrative and doctors.
Started keto Jan 2021 ...I was 336lbs. By Feb 2021 308lb. Started carnivore Feb 2021 til now April 30th 2021 279lbs. I Iove carnivore it's so simple. I just eat meat, butter, salt, and water. I wish I new about this years ago. No more recipes..Yes
Hey Dr Berry ,. I am carnivore now lost 15 pds . But I'm pleased to say my blood pressure is alot better . Wish you were my personal doctor . I have so much hope now . I live in Mt Juliet , Tn. If ever I could be a patient . ☺️. Just saying ....
There seems to be a lot of discussion that cholesterol isn't the main factor for heart problems. More and more people are saying inflammation is the main culprit. What to believe?
I loved the part about vaping instead of smoking. I quit smoking 9 years ago and switched to vaping ever since and do fast jogging exercise and never get winded. Good one!
Same, but I walk at a pretty good clip. You have to do what we used to call "power walking" (without the stupid arm and step movements), rather than a leisurely stroll. I think that's what Dr. Berry was alluding to.
@@loridupuy1428 Keep doing it every day! The more you do that the easier it gets, and in 2 weeks you'll find yourself walking farther with the same effort!
Recently saw my doctor and he said I need to think about a statin and should eat a plant-based diet…. I’m so glad I have been doing my own research. Keto and Fasting lowered my Triglycerides from 100 to 47, so no thank you, I’m doing fine :)
My HDL end April 2021 this year was 2.0 mmol/l (77 mg/dL). I do HIIT 6 times a week, and the most important foodstuff IMO are avo's, oils like extra virgin olive/avocado oil, fatty fish, eggs, lots of leafy greens.
Anyhow, Paul Mason does a wonderful presentation on cholesterol. He covers VLDL, ILDL, LDL, and HDL. Amazing information and simplified for us simpler folks.
On keto. Was concerned...but.. Just got blood results back today 04/2021. It seems that it's finally leveling off as I do keto. Interesting! Went from 139 down to 115lbs. Enjoy your videos...and they are more current. Thnx!! Just re'cvd results. Chol now 278 Trig now 81 HDL now 90 VLDL now 13 LDL now 175 T.Chol/HDL Ratio now 3.1
Great content as always. Been fat adapted for nearly 2 years now. No morning hunger and great blood work. Not even a small bowl of noodles can't kick me out of ketosis, haha (once a week).
I feel like I am trying to thread an impossible needle. I lost 31lbs easily on keto; my daily numbers are good. BUT I am never hungry and that used to be a good thing, but I no longer NEED to lose weight (I have hit the "healthy" level) *and* being over 60 and female I want to protect my bones AND my heart. And everyone says I need to "eat enough calories" (even saw Dr B say it in recent video). I feel it's a tightrope I don't know how to walk! If I eat a bunch of dairy to help my calcium (and yes I take D and K2), then I risk higher sugars. If I spend the day eating and cooking broccoli and other calcium greens, that's great but I could NEVER get to the 1200mg level they advise for my gender/age. And bulking up on High Omega 6 fish means either the high sodium canned stuff (good for bones!) or fresh (deboned, so not as good for bones). Luckily I have weight bearing exercise available to me, which is good for bones. Still not sure how a high fat/meat diet doesn't hurt my heart. I have seen a few videos on this and need to re-watch. But I am facing my doctor and my 3 month lab test soon, following my three months of lowering blood sugar naturally (i.e. against her advice I went off metformin and wanted to do it naturally). But I am still not convinced that at my new low weight and diminished hunger, that I am not hurting my bones and with all the meat (even grass-fed) I am not hurting my heart. I am losing my mind and want to stop overthinking this! What's worse is that my fasting sugars have been high for a few days now, even though during the day my numbers are great because I eat keto but therefore eat LESS and the cycle repeats. I am so depressed and exhausted by this. It seems like my blood sugar needs/goals are fighting my bone needs/goals.
1. Eat a low carb diet 2. Eat a higher fat diet (No vegetable oils like soybean, canola, peanut, & sunflower. Use butter, bacon grease, full fat real fermented cheese, cod liver, or lard) 3. Vigorous exercise (3 to 5 times a week) 4. Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night 5. Quit smoking if you are a smoker 6. Berberine can help raise your HDL while you work on the first 5 steps
I got my hdl checked 2 days ago, and it was 32 .......Im 52 years old and have been doing a high protine low-carb diet, and I take beta blockers for blood pressure. I've dropped about 30 lbs, but it looks like I have some more work to do!
I used to have 410 cholesterol 2 years ago - my diet wasn't the best but the main reason is because I went on "chicken liver" diet after being diagnose w anemia. Another year went by and I went to 340. And this month down to 250. All I did was STOP chicken livers, as well as lowered fatty foods. I'm intent to go to normal range this year.
I use a stationary bike and try to go full speed for up to two minutes before slowing back to a steady pace and do this intermittently. I hope this counts as 'vigorous' enough :-)
My HDL is 27...MI at 41. 29mg Lipitor x 28 years. I am eliminating Sugar from my Diet. Eating a reasonable diet now beyond that after limiting Fat and subbing in Carbs for 30 years. I'll let you know. Bicycling a couple days a week. I can peg out at 150 limit and not be short of breath.
I've got a meeting coming up with my primary care doc, and am dreading it a little. At the start of the year 2023 I made a major dietary shift from a low fat/high carb diet to a high fat/low carb diet. I also stopped taking the statin I was on. In not quite two months, I've lost 30lbs and feel healthier in just about every way. I'm going to have a standard panel of blood tests, and while I'm pretty sure that my HDL is likely to be higher, my LDL will be higher still. I'm contemplating printing out some of the studies Dr Berry and others have posted on their videos to support my position. Not that my doc is a particularly argumentative.
I eat eggs and meat and bacon when I find it grass fed. I eat ghee and butter, sockeyed salmon. The only carbs are from vegetables and I do exercise 3 times a week with pounds. But I changed my foods only from 2 years and a half ago, as I had a macrobiotic diet: a lot of cereals and tofu and seitan, just a small portion of fish once a week, soy joghurt at breakfast and fruits fresh and almonds and so on for about 33 years (I am 74). Then began problems with my tiroid and heartbeat (49/58 60 only in the morning out of bed), and the right eye sight. Then I changed everythink with the suggestion of a great physician. Now I feel better but the problem of eye sight remain. I hope it will improve in the future but in the meantime I can't use the car in the evening.
Dear Dr Berry, I would like to congratulate you for the fantastic information you share in the best way possible with clarity and sufficient detail. Greetings from Greece🇬🇷
I agree 100 percent how to you deal with a family doc that thinks a cholesterol level of 210 or 220 is too high. My triglycerides are fine and my HDL and LDLs are outta whack and I've been on keto for a year. I feel better in my 50s than I did in my 30s and 40s
For years I have been battling low HDL cholesterol. Not even a low-carb diet and exercise could get me above 40. It was only until I started taking a resveratrol supplement that I was able to do so. The last lab work I did was in January and I had an HDL of 51.
Same here on the HDL. It's been a genuine battle, despite low-carb, plenty of exercise (emphais: resistance and HIIT). Rez helped a lot. I'm at 54, which is a lifetime high, alongside TriG of 48.
I just had blood work for Life Insurance Policy and they said I had high HDL at 72, They want between 35-60. Maybe I should stop exercise, good sleep and low carb, LOL. Of course, my LDL is 188 but Trig is 56. I am curious to see what they come back with for a price. My 'best' numbers that made the doctors happy is when I had a total cholesterol of 212 in 2016. but my Tri was 176 and A1C of 5.9. I am reading your book Lies your doctor told you, and I am finding out I have been lied to many times!
I'm glad to read your comment. I have Dr Berry's book and need to review it. I've never seen a cholesterol number in double digits before until 2 years ago when I had been seriously doing keto. It is 77 but the part that concerned me is that the LDL is over 100. After seeing this video, I feel better about this. My doctor of course is not happy that the LDL is so high and HDL is so low and wants me on statins. I sent him the link that Dr. Berry posted a while ago about the study in women that shows the LOWEST factor in heart disease and heart attack is high cholesterol. His response was 'I don't know why you would follow a study done in women" Well is the circulatory system in women THAT different than men? I will ask him at my physical in a few months. He's leaving it up to me to take the statins. If he were not, I would change doctors. But he does everything else VERY well. Your comment is great. I will try berberine. I do briskly 30 minutes every other day and have a way to get more vigorous exercise on a machine, but I've heard from another doctor that if you are huffing and puffing, that raises your cortisol, which prevents fat loss. UGGGH!
I’ve lost a lot of weight in the last 45 days. I have been trying but nothing worked. I got unwell and wasn’t interested in eating. I started losing about a pound a day. I was having whole milk yogurt mid morning and a steak or burger, meat only, at night. And I was dropping it. I already was doing a keto like regime with Half and half in the coffee with monk fruit sweetener. I wasn’t hungry and liked the results. Then the real reason I wasn’t feeling well surfaced. An abscess tooth. Started as a general teethache at night for two days. I went to primary care and started clindamycin, but it left my teeth and went into my face. Two days later my eye almost swollen shut I had that tooth pulled. Then my face got drained. I’ve just finished the clindamycin, a 10 day 300 mg per dose regiment. My appetite is returning and so is my energy. And I’m 15 pounds lighter! I’m staying with it. Lots of yard work to do with 10 days lost to the tooth, and being very out of shape I get winded chasing the mower around. String trimming, and then there’s the field mower. Not a huge field but a steep hill, some ravines and tricky spots and again I’m walk/running behind. I’m also almost 70 years young. I’ve been having a heart block issue that’s being analyzed now. The dizzy symptoms have kept me from pushing it and they are still with me. But now, also not carrying around 15 pounds makes all things easier. I drinking lots of water. Lots and lots. Take lots of supplements with some Rx’s and an electrolyte when working/sweating. I work myself to a standstill almost daily and that keeps the pounds falling off. I’ve gone from obese to overweight. A place I never thought I would see again. My goal is another 20 pounds. The BMI index I use says for my height, normal weight is from 95 to 126 pounds. I’m sure 95 is WAY too light. I’m shooting for 120 to 125. My HDL is low and my pcp has encouraged me to find out how to raise it. So thank you for doing this video!
Since a few months, I've decided to stop using any vegetable oils while cooking. You know when you grease your pan a little to cook anything? I stopped using canola and olive oil for that; what I use and I find it so wholesome is butter, or clarified butter if I have any. It's so much more tasty, aromatic, and healthy.
I keep my carbs around 20-30 a day. Ground flax seeds have helped me improve my cholesterol a LOT! The carbs in flax seeds are virtually all from fiber, in my understanding.
I smoke cigars- about 2-3 a week- sometimes less- My doctor wanted me on statins 5 months ago- when my lab results showed a total Cholesterol was 197, LDL was borderline, HDL was at 40- I started eating better- no fried or fast food or processed meats- No desserts, I use stevia instead of sugar- and I work out 4 times a week. My recent results were total cholesterol 149! normal range on all triglycerides and LDL however HDL dropped by 2 pts My goal is to get HDL at 60 and above which means I'm going back to bacon, cheese and monosaturated and saturated fats- I believe I had cut most of that.
My mom's HDL and LDL are under 40 and triglycerides are in the 200s (were closer to 400 at one point). Her doctor won't take her off of statins, and I've tried telling her to get off of them. She doesn't eat a lot of meat, and she has to be careful with what carbs she eats. She's, also, a diabetic that has been controlled with Lugol's iodine, but still takes a once a day insulin.
Hi Dr Berry! I have always had good HDL levels, but ever since I lowered my carbs and gave up sugar my HDL has been over 100. My last blood work it was 110. Can it be too high? My doctor told me there is not any studies regarding very high HDL and wanted to put me on cholesterol medication because my other numbers were slightly elevated. I refused to take the medication. What are your thoughts?
My HDL has been over 100 too for many years. My LDL has been high as well . My total is 300. Even before I gave up sugar & carb my HDL is over 100. I don't do vigorous exercise . I do my chi machine exercise twice a day for few years now. My lab work always shows high blood lipids. I had a detail LDL lab work done twice & my large particles are high . My ND doctor said as long as my ratio is normal, no need to worry.
Very good advise. I add lot of butter and ghee with my food daily. Eat only millets in place of rice. Walking 16000 steps, 45 min cycling and dumbbells etc: I am 66. My HDL is raised to 45 from 39 over a period of six months. Thanks for your suggestions Dr Berry.
Ive been doing Keto/Carnivore for the last 6 months solid, and previously did carnivore for over a year (previous issues with SIBO). I exercise 2 to 3 times a week with heavy to moderate weights, keeping the reps between 6 and 20 depending on the set. I push a sled across the floor because of some knee issues, this is one exercise that causes me the least pain. My workout takes about an 1.5 hours and there is a 30 min sauna included. Funny thing is, my cholesterol came back at 315 just for LDL and my HDL was at 30. So, none of what you are saying in this video helped me in the slightest, as a matter of fact, I just got out of the hospital after suffering my second heart attack, I now have 6 stents and will likely have to be on some medication for the rest of my life after taking the advice offered in this video. Please explain this, also, when I eat red meat, my toes go numb, indicating that there is increased inflammation. I would occasionally eat some mushrooms and red peppers, serranos and jalapenos, but my last trip to the gym, pushing the sled across the floor, my chest felt strange, and a half hour later I was in the ER getting my groin shaved and having instruments run up my femoral artery to open the arteries going to my heart, I would like to know why this happened.
Thanks for the advice! That said: You have to watch the transfats, which we were told were phased out and, yet, companies can get away with not labelling if under a certain amt., which is strangely higher than expected. Read the labels. Learn about the ingredients on them. Some make you think they are healthy saying they don’t have high fructose corn syrup or no artificial flavors or the like in the front. Maybe they think it’s enough. I would shoot for reliability when it comes to a study. Look for multiple ones. I had another impression I forgot, but add to this your own research.
Cod liver oil contains vitamin A retinol, D3, and lower amounts of Omega3. Fish oil has higher amounts of Omega3 but no vita A. My opinion is to take neither because both are oxadized. Eat canned cod liver in its own oil or fresh wild fish instead
Hi Dr Berry, I have been following you, Dr. Nadir Ali, and Dr. Paul Mason for about a year. I am a 50 year old woman with high cholesterol (inherited) but very healthy otherwise. I just got my annual lab results back. All of my cholesterol levels dropped 10% except for HDL. It stayed exactly the same. My overall cholesterol is 253. At one time it was as high as 394. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with so many of us!
HDL: 62.71 (😍😍) Triglycerides: 50.7 (😍😍) VLDL: 10.14 LDL: 97.54 My numbers as at April 20. A1c 5.51. Been failing at ketovore i.e..cheating since January. Off and on. But, definitely had a stick of butter weekly and lamb or beef on most days, for most weeks.
@michaelbrandon7742 that was after 3 months of mostly carnivore. Mostly lamb and pork, with beef, eggs here and there. I say Mostly carnivore because I still used coconut oil when I ran out of butter, and I eat spices and seasonings like rosemary, garlic, geera, etc. I ate cream cheese and drank San pellegrino, perrier, and Viva flavoured sparkling water, which is sucralose sweetened. I also used another flavoured sparkling water when they did not have Viva. That one had maybe 20 calories because it had a small amount of sugar in it. So, I wasn't particularly strict.
@@shawnellemartineaux6212 thank you for taking the time to respond! My levels have been confusing me because I thought I was doing the right things, but I think I have cholesterol all wrong. Going to start eating meats again more than once or twice a week.
Hey, Dr. Berry, at least one channel is stealing your content. I have reported (as Spam/Fraud/Stolen Content) but wanted to give you a heads up--I watched this video there before I realized it was not your channel.
Supplementing with NAC will raise your HDL, I started supplementing with NAC about four years ago specifically for this reason and my test results have consistently gone from being a high of around 39 to 55 or 56.

"out of breath" exercises tend to burn much more sugar, emptying your glucose reserves, blood levels, glycogen's, etc. This allows storage capacity for the intake of carbs, eliminating the need for the conversion to fat.
Dr Berry, Not trying to be offensive. But I just watched your video about keto raised my cholesterol. You said cholesterol is no longer a marker of risk for any sort of heart related issues. But on this video you say the opposite at the end of the video. I would appreciate a clarification. Thanks for all your great content.
I have a different problem and I can't seem to get an answer to it so maybe someone can point me to videos that address this since I am new here. 1. I have had high triglycerides for the better part of 10 years. I couldn't swallow the massive fish oil pills so I used food as medicine and ate either an avacadonor salmon every day. My triglycerides dropped like a broken elevator and my doctor was very pleased. I got lazt about it maybe a year and a half ago. My last fasting blood work was the first week of June. My good cholesterol is perfect. My bad cholesterol is 45 buy my triglycerides are suddenly 851. That's where they were when I started treating myself with food. My a1c has also been climbing qnd is squarely in the pre-diabetes range. This frightened me more than my triglycerides because I know how to treat that. So, I called a friend who has.not eaten sugar or carbs in over a year and asked how to do it. She said start with my coffee and gave me monk fruit sweetener to help me get off sugar. I've been using that and I'm down to 1 top or less in my coffee now. But I'm not the type that can ease into something, it's basically all or nothing so I dove head first into Keto. I've lost 17 lbs. I'm almost never hungry and on the rare occasion I now want something sweet (which used to be every minute of every day) I grab a few berries from my yard. So after all that babbling my question is if my cholesterol is so perfect why are my triglycerides so high? And why does that appear to correlate to my a1c which used to be fine? Also, I don't understand how eating fat lowers my triglycerides. It does, I have the blood work to prove it, but it seems illogical. Aren't triglycerides basically little globs of fat hanging out in your blood that your body can't seem to process? Totally confused but loving keto and not being a slave to hunger and carbs and sugar. Just confused on these couple of things. Thanks for any help in finding answers.
I am disabled Sr….chair exercises ? I dont know anyone who sleeps more than 6 or 7 hrs uninterrupted….I am on strict keto, have CVD and metabolic syndrome….numbers improving slowly….focused on high uric acid at moment, considering allopurinol. Watch you every week.
Hello dear Doctor Thank you so much for your help and advice,i do appreciate your job. I wish you peace and happness under the sky of prosperity. Take care and have a good time Take care and have a good time. Your Student from Algeria.
Various doctors on UA-cam all say decrease carbs. The confusing thing for me is that half say eat less animal fat, the other half say animal fat is ok.
I heard stories on the news of respiratory failure in teenagers who vape and those with pre-existing conditions like COPD. It has never been proven safe.
Ok, I had my blood work done today 08/09/23 My HDL is 108 and I ate white rice, meat, no regular exercise. But I fast at least 12-16 hours a day. Take MCT oil in my coffee every morning and butter. I don’t count my calories in take. No junk food though…
A nurse told me red yeast rice works like a statin without the side effects, but take coq10 with it, as with statins, to ease the muscle strain, she said. RYR is also a limited time period supplement, I have read, so get the hard work done during that time. I would do the hard sign while in statins, as a family member had to have hers raised. Doctors tend to say you can eat whatever on statins. Not a good idea.
Day 15 of my sugar free 30 diet. Which is a clean keto plan and my tinnitus is gone. My energy is better.
Is Tinnitus linked to eating carbs and sugar as well because I can’t seem to get rid of mine
I would live to get rid of mine too!
@@CaliVibez111 It IS linked to high blood sugar in many cases. My life-long tinnitus is always lower and less piercing when I'm eating very low carb.
@@CaliVibez111 yes. If it is not associated with an injury it is probably inflammation in your ear. Inflammation caused by blood sugar disregulation.

Dr. Berry, I am consistently amazed at the quality of your video content. Thanks for giving, giving, giving. We truly appreciate your help and professionalism - especially since you are one of the rare people who are willing to admit they might not know everything and instead consistently do the research and look at the FACTS and studies. Thanks!
Well, he did not mention Alcohol Consumption Raises HDL Cholesterol Levels.
Yeah, I used to think that oatmeal was great for a long time.
Wow that's crazy cause I've had the exact opposite experience 🤷♀️
Weird. I mean congrats on realizing what you feel is better. But I'm actually the opposite. All the best man
Oatmeal boosts serotonin.
I was also struggling with fasting bg over 100 consistently until 3 days ago. I did a 40 hr water fast and this morning my bg was 83!!!!!! 😂😂
@@juliewells4006 WOW!!! I may have to give this a try. Thanks.

How do you calculate triglyceride to HDL and which Berberine do you consume and where do you buy it? Thanks

Just got my lab work today and my hdl is low! This is just what i needed! Thanks.
What is "low" to you?
My last blood work was in February and my HDL was at 50. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you.. yes I am a vaper and it was the only way for ME to give up smoking 435 days no cigarettes...I was 45years a smoker and now I someday see like I was 20 again....

I love to dance!
That's what I did too, and it was the icing on the cake to change my health....getting rid of the assholes in my life!!
@@userac-xpg I agree. Despite what one physician told me, it does not take much alcohol to raise triglyceride levels.

Eating avocados made my hdl high though my ldl was high because of french fries.

Same, but I walk at a pretty good clip. You have to do what we used to call "power walking" (without the stupid arm and step movements), rather than a leisurely stroll. I think that's what Dr. Berry was alluding to.

My HDL this year (March 2022) has dropped from 77 to 59 mg/dl. But my trigs have dropped a little further from 70 to 63 mg/dl.

1. Eat a low carb diet
2. Eat a higher fat diet (No vegetable oils like soybean, canola, peanut, & sunflower. Use butter, bacon grease, full fat real fermented cheese, cod liver, or lard)
3. Vigorous exercise (3 to 5 times a week)
4. Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night
5. Quit smoking if you are a smoker
6. Berberine can help raise your HDL while you work on the first 5 steps
Thank you!
Thanks

I got my hdl checked 2 days ago, and it was 32 .......Im 52 years old and have been doing a high protine low-carb diet, and I take beta blockers for blood pressure. I've dropped about 30 lbs, but it looks like I have some more work to do!
Raise your HDL back to normal with this diet: bit.ly/Carnivore101
I've been needing a good Berberine! Thank you for the suggestion!
More elaboration on berberine please. My hdl is low and ldl very high

His response was 'I don't know why you would follow a study done in women"
Well is the circulatory system in women THAT different than men? I will ask him at my physical in a few months. He's leaving it up to me to take the statins. If he were not, I would change doctors. But he does everything else VERY well.
Your comment is great. I will try berberine. I do briskly 30 minutes every other day and have a way to get more vigorous exercise on a machine, but I've heard from another doctor that if you are huffing and puffing, that raises your cortisol, which prevents fat loss. UGGGH!
Can you do a video on collagen? I've heard conflicting theories on it and the keto diet. THANKS!
My HDL is already a super healthy 96!
Do you have any tips?
That's wild!
I keep my carbs around 20-30 a day. Ground flax seeds have helped me improve my cholesterol a LOT! The carbs in flax seeds are virtually all from fiber, in my understanding.
Any thoughts on Niacin for raising HDL?
I like to sleep. It's relaxing and I don't have to get out of bed and go to work. I like sleep. Just feels right.
I love your delivery Dr. Berry. It makes all these new concepts understandable and entertaining!

You have to watch the transfats, which we were told were phased out and, yet, companies can get away with not labelling if under a certain amt., which is strangely higher than expected. Read the labels. Learn about the ingredients on them. Some make you think they are healthy saying they don’t have high fructose corn syrup or no artificial flavors or the like in the front. Maybe they think it’s enough.

Cod liver oil contains vitamin A retinol, D3, and lower amounts of Omega3. Fish oil has higher amounts of Omega3 but no vita A. My opinion is to take neither because both are oxadized. Eat canned cod liver in its own oil or fresh wild fish instead
Just received my blood test. Hdl 90, total cholesterol 210, triglycerides 130, iron 180 ( saturation 52%) vitamin b12 600
I joined your Patreon Group. I love all your videos. Thanks so very much.
HDL: 62.71 (😍😍)
Triglycerides: 50.7 (😍😍)
VLDL: 10.14
LDL: 97.54
My numbers as at April 20. A1c 5.51.
Been failing at ketovore i.e..cheating since January. Off and on. But, definitely had a stick of butter weekly and lamb or beef on most days, for most weeks.
Wow! I want those levels!
This is following keto strictly?
My HDL is 48, LDL 99.
I’m worried because my HDL is low.
Dr. Berry I'm very happy that you're a genius doctor with educational videos. Hope all is well.
My HDL went way up when I started taking real niacin and eating good fats.
When you say “way up” from what value to what value ?
Also, what does niacin have to do with HDL?
I tried the niacin in a high dose several years ago. was on it for 3 months , it did NOT raise my HDL
Exactly
@@KenDBerryMD which food rich in niacin?
Niacin is dangerous. It
makes your face red. It made me pass out_ twice in axrow.
My HDL was 31.... LDL was 145 which explains my issue when I ended up with a triple bypass recently.

Hello Dr Berry. I have been telling my Doctor about you and she is interested in your book and the knowledge that you are sharing. Thank you !
Thank you so much Doctor’s, I truly appreciate all your videos. God bless you and your family🙏🏻🙏🏻
Dr Berry,
Not trying to be offensive. But I just watched your video about keto raised my cholesterol. You said cholesterol is no longer a marker of risk for any sort of heart related issues. But on this video you say the opposite at the end of the video. I would appreciate a clarification.
Thanks for all your great content.
Hell yeah! Exercise in the bedroom count! ❤️🤣
Does it work if you’re exercising alone? 😏
@@Rockman-4 sure it does
He said as long as you sweat...😅
Oh come on now~You know darn well he meant digging out that exercise bike buried under a mountain of laundry! So fresh, you people...tsk tsk =)
Right on, oops, I mean ride on!😉😉🚲🚲
God bless you Dr Berry!
Working on a video now to help you understand this
I am disabled Sr….chair exercises ? I dont know anyone who sleeps more than 6 or 7 hrs uninterrupted….I am on strict keto, have CVD and metabolic syndrome….numbers improving slowly….focused on high uric acid at moment, considering allopurinol. Watch you every week.
Your hair still looks good doc!

I was told to exercise to raise HDL......
Been doing all of those except berberine since November 2021. Will add the supplement today
I’ve been doing Keto and low-carb for 6 weeks and loss 46 lbs- but my HDL is only 30.
Tank you from Montreal Canada
Thanks Dr B,, you’re the best.
I already take Berberine, as I'm a pre-diabetic.
Ok, I had my blood work done today 08/09/23 My HDL is 108 and I ate white rice, meat, no regular exercise. But I fast at least 12-16 hours a day. Take MCT oil in my coffee every morning and butter. I don’t count my calories in take. No junk food though…
Eat organic Virgin coconut oil (unrefined) will raise HDL too. I take 2 TBL spoons a day. Plus I follow a low carb diet.
