Hulu has some good anime too. Better for anime than Netflix for sure. I have Crunchyroll too and Hulu even has some anime that isn't on Crunchyroll or Netflix.
Also the way netflix releases anime is super detrimental to keeping traction of it up. Instead of simulcasting or uploading it all when the seasons done they basically wait several months/years/year til they can dub it. Itd be way better to simulcast or just put the animes new season out once all episodes of it are out. And Just advertise the dub when they actually acquire it

Watching series on Prime is really frustrating. They're often divided by seasons so each season is a different item, which causes confusion. The worst part is that there isn't an option to watch the previous episode, you have to quit out of playback to then find that previous episode. This happens a lot because of the other annoying thing: sometimes Skip Intro doesn't show up, so I instinctively press the other button that's on the bottom-right corner, which is to watch Next Episode. Anyway, to watch TV shows, Netflix is far superior. As for their collection of films, Prime takes the cake.
It'd be worth mentioning Kanopy. It's a free streaming service if you are a part of any library. It has stacks of independent films and documentaries as well as classics. Ive been using it for a few years now and my watchlist is still over 100.
Surprised MUBI isn't mentioned, it has tons of great content and always changing collections makes me actually watch the movies. Definitely one of my favs since Criterion channel isn't in my country.

Hot take: Pluto TV is the king of free streaming services. Rue Paul's Drag Race, American Gladiators, retro nick, Slow TV, weirdly nostalgic 90s TV shows, and a bunch of quality cult movies. They are the real MVP.
Kanopy is my favourite one, it has so many great classic, indie, arthouse, and just great movies. They also have many movies from the criterion collection. The best part is that it’s free, you just need a library card in the US or Australia.
Angus Boyd okay but there are still artist behind those films that aren’t going to make that much money. Sure, Scorsese doesn’t have to worry about the success of The Irishman because he’ll still be able to make movies. But Mati Diop NEEDS the views and success of Atlantics to push forward her career, and pirating it certainly isn’t going to help her.
Recently got the Criterion collection to watch Fantastic Planet. I love it because they tell you what movies are leaving that month (unlike Netflix where I have to look it up somewhere else). I couldn't recommend it more.
to all my fellow Australians without the criterion channel and looking for odd one-off indie films and/or classic, i only recently discovered this website called Kanopy. basically, if you have a library card from a local government-run library, you can use your library card number to create an account, and for free you have an abundance of odd films, a few theatrical releases, and cult classics.
Here in india, Disney plus comes with All the American Disney plus content, and in addition to that all HBO, Showtime, some ABC, and FX content. The fact that I can watch arrested development, the wire, twin peaks and it’s always sunny on the same platform is amazing.
My take away from this is HBO Max is something to keep your eyes on, The Criterion Channel needs more attention, Hulu is slowly rising up and Netflix is flawed still reliable and I don't care much about all the other services tbh.

if you're watching this and you're a broke student in the uk like me - MUBI has a free film up every day (and it's up for 30 days) for free with student subscription and they sometimes do free screenings at cinemas too; kanopy lets you access films from your library for free, and BoB has everything that's been broadcast on British tv as far as i know - it is hard to navigate, but you can find so much stuff on there, completely free (although it is a tv recording so you have to sit through ads). also, if you have a curzon cinema near you, they have a student discount + off peak tickets during the day !! i can't afford to pay for subscriptions myself + my parents only use netflix so these have all been great for accessing more quality films xo
UA-cam TV is phenomenal. You get all your local channels, including sports, and get access to one of the largest movie collections I’ve seen, and I’ve used every other streaming service.
In South Africa we have a service called Showmax: it has rights to all HBO content and a lot of original content from CBS and Hulu; it has a bunch of great films; content is uploaded daily; it streams some live news and sports channels; it has local South African content; and it's cheaper than Netflix. So, all I need is Netflix and Showmax and Mubi (for arthouse and classics) and I have almost everything I need, just for ± $30 a month.
Disney+ is continuously adding Fox content to their service (since, you know, they own the whole company). They recently added the Peanuts movie, X-Men 1, and something I completely forgot
UA-cam is actually my go-to for streaming when something isn't on Netflix. It has pretty much everything, is easy to Chromecast with, is usually only €5 for a rental (even better if you split with a friend) and I charge it to my phone credit which usually goes unused otherwise.
Yes, their content is great, and in case you are not interested in watching the 30 movies they offer in a month you can suspend your subscription and come back when there is something of your liking. Also, they add a section called Library where they have a semi-permanent selection of movies.

The content disparity between usa and other countries seems pretty insane. In most countries netflix is the one who offers Ghibli movies. Amazon here has barely any content for streaming that others don't.
This is so interesting from an international perspective, in Ireland, we don't have HBO or hulu so their original content is split between Netflix and prime - so yup we don't have to pay as much to get it all

if you're watching this and you're a broke student in the uk like me - MUBI has a free film up every day (and it's up for 30 days) for free with student subscription and they sometimes do free screenings at cinemas too; kanopy lets you access films from your library for free, and BoB has everything that's been broadcast on British tv as far as i know - it is hard to navigate, but you can find so much stuff on there, completely free (although it is a tv recording so you have to sit through ads). also, if you have a curzon cinema near you, they have a student discount + off peak tickets during the day !! i can't afford to pay for subscriptions myself + my parents only use netflix so these have all been great for accessing more quality films xo
Mubi is another streaming service that is similar to the criterion channel, I really like it
UA-cam TV is phenomenal. You get all your local channels, including sports, and get access to one of the largest movie collections I’ve seen, and I’ve used every other streaming service.

In South Africa we have a service called Showmax: it has rights to all HBO content and a lot of original content from CBS and Hulu; it has a bunch of great films; content is uploaded daily; it streams some live news and sports channels; it has local South African content; and it's cheaper than Netflix. So, all I need is Netflix and Showmax and Mubi (for arthouse and classics) and I have almost everything I need, just for ± $30 a month.

Disney+ is continuously adding Fox content to their service (since, you know, they own the whole company). They recently added the Peanuts movie, X-Men 1, and something I completely forgot

UA-cam is actually my go-to for streaming when something isn't on Netflix. It has pretty much everything, is easy to Chromecast with, is usually only €5 for a rental (even better if you split with a friend) and I charge it to my phone credit which usually goes unused otherwise.

Yes, their content is great, and in case you are not interested in watching the 30 movies they offer in a month you can suspend your subscription and come back when there is something of your liking. Also, they add a section called Library where they have a semi-permanent selection of movies.

The content disparity between usa and other countries seems pretty insane. In most countries netflix is the one who offers Ghibli movies. Amazon here has barely any content for streaming that others don't.

This is so interesting from an international perspective, in Ireland, we don't have HBO or hulu so their original content is split between Netflix and prime - so yup we don't have to pay as much to get it all
