    Can neurofeedback be used to control symptoms of Tourette Syndrome/ chronic tic disorders? This would be for a mild to moderate presence of chronic motor tics. I ask because I've noticed that different activities such as anything artistic (drawing, painting, playing an instrument), even weeding in the garden seem to lessen or completely stop the tics so I'm thinking there's different brainwave activity during these activities that is not conducive to producing tics.
    I have the Muse 2 and though I've only just started using it I've ordered the Muse S because it's hard for me to relax with the hard plastic frame of the 2 on. I also wanted the sleep improvement features of the S.
    Thanks!

    Fascinating topic. Thank you for covering it so clearly and well, Cody.
    Question:
    * Operant conditioning can be used to change the ratio of brainwaves, which sounds quite valuable in itself.
    * However, being in ADHD state, or a high beta state can be very adaptive in certain contexts, but it's suboptimal to be in either state all the time.
    * Given this, is it common or possible to use neurofeedback to train people to easily flow between different states?
    Looking forward to your response!

    I have 3 children with ADHD and 1 with ADHD/Autism. I have been doing Neurofeedback locally for two of my sons and would like to try Myndlift product for all 4. Can you help me with the Muse Headset? Is there one that would work best for them/fit them? They are ages 9, 10, 12 and 14. If your mind is stuck in fight or flight mode is there a particular brain wave to focus on? Or if your mind is suffering from disassociation or "movie mode"? I wonder if this head band is as effective as going to a practitioner. It's hard to pay $140 a visit twice (even once) a week. Thanks for your time.

    • @Skitdora2010
      @Skitdora2010 3 роки тому

      I know the movie mode you are speaking of. A cure is thinking thorough and organizing the memory causing the fight or flight. The memory is broken and stored in the wrong part of the brain because of the hormones released by the fight or flight mode when the experience occurred, you need to bring all the disjointed memory together and help your brain put it together like a puzzle to a normal experience/memory and then your brain will relocate it to the correct part of the brain. Try to organize all the pieces into a real memory. (I.E. The blue shirt was what he wore, I am x years old, this is what I did ect) you might not ever get all of the memory bundled together, but the most you can helps. By embracing it and understanding what happened, letting yourself relive it, even though it's painful you can decrease its power over your life. Also, slowing things down, like moving to the country for a few months can help you feel like you are ready to face the stem of the anxiety and help you remember and feel safe enough to work through your history. For PTSD, they suggest playing Tetris, but personally, just sitting and taking a few weeks to absorb the memories helped. Also ask your therapist for that desensitizing you do in the dark room where you quickly look left and right with your head facing forward sitting still with your eyes closed. I didn't do that, but have heard others have great results with that. It brings up hidden memories that are causing trauma that once worked through help stop panic attacks.

      Neurofeedback can be a dead-end when not used with meditative practice. Neurofeedback applies more to mindfulness whereas sustained attention on the breath can help elicit deeper meditative changes. I try to explain in my latest video ua-cam.com/video/F_LHhS0utFw/v-deo.html.

They're supplemental or a puzzle piece.. You can go through 1000 sessions but if someone doesn't 100% want to put the effort in to follow lifestyle changes or instructions ect and the other things necessary then they're not going to succeed

      @CodyRallMD  5 років тому +8

      Excellent question! My next video on Myndlift neurofeedback will cover this very topic. It should be out in 2 weeks. Basically the brain map provides Z-scores, which would allow neurofeedback clients to get back to "normal" brainwaves in reference to databases that represent the general population. But with high-performance training, most neurofeedback practitioners prefer amplitude training, which does not necessarily require a brain map. Also, there may be a amplitude screening tool out soon, which will provide a brain-map like experience at home :D . Stay tuned for my follow up video on Myndlift coming out in 2 weeks for more :) :)
