Hey! What about Macrotellect's brain link series? More specifically brain link pro 3.0? It feature all that meditation hype, with heart rate and body temperature, alongside with a led color that indicates you mood, and it is capable of control physical toys with you concentration and relaxation. In my research looks like the more all around product out there, but almost nobody talks about.

Hey Cody! Your channel is such a gem, opened my eyes to tons of possibilities.
Do you think it's worth it to use Emotiv for higher quality neurofeedback than Muse? Is that even possible to use it in a way such as myndlift uses Muse?
    Thanks!

The problem Whit emotiv it's the cost of the software

You say that the typical EEG signal is between 5-20 microvolts, and you say that the ICA of Muse 2 surpasses that. Looking at the plot, 99% of the data is between 5-20 uV. There are two spikes off the chart, which would be easy to remove with any outlier checking.
Also, it's hard to tell looking at your plots, because you did not keep the scale constant across both plots, but it looks like the frontal electrodes have less variance in the Muse 2 than the Muse S. If true, isn't that really great?
Also, while I do see what looks like noise in the Muse 2 plot in the temporal sensors for about 5-10 seconds out of 210 seconds (10/210 < 5% of data), this looks like the output of one test subject. Obviously that data is kind of worthless because you would need to look at more than one five minute use case to make these conclusions.
If you want this to be a serious analysis, why not report the standard deviation of both the frontal and temporal sensors over 10 use cases? Compare variance of both devices, and also with professional research setups.
Anyway, in terms of meditation, one would think needing to be aware of the muscles in your face is a plus. You have to relax your muscles as part of the challenge.

For the people curious about the accuracy: If you want good accuracy, make sure you get the Muse S, not the Muse 1 or Muse 2.

Muse is crap. Look into Emotiv devices for research quality. Muse spends a lot on Marketing and customer support therefore is more popular than Emotiv.

@@bull5919 I have one now, and it works for the research I'm doing. Been a bit rough on it which has affected signal quality on the rear electrodes, but it's still capable of producing some clear data under the right conditions, and the pre-frontal electrodes have been providing me signal that is just fine when I block out incoming noise. It's not necessarily the best option out there, and it's certainly limited to it's applications, however it does indeed provide clear data

just ordered a muse S based on this video...
so since you dont mention it,interaxon has fixed the connectivity problems with muse 2 and S?
coz back then when they came out they had just too many problems when connecting to mm,so after trying out several muse 2 and many people confirming the same problem i gave up and was using the muse 1 all this time, but after what kiefer said about the sensors i thought ok this makes sense and since he is using and recommending it i guess it means they work fine now...
of course i can always use the 30 days money back guarantee but would be nice to know up front what to expect...

For the purposes of practicing meditation I would think the Muse 2 is "Good enough".
When I compare the soundscape to what's going on in my head during meditation, it seems pretty accurate.
But yeah, perhaps if you're doing some sort of research, the Muse S is the way to go.
The comment earlier about the headband stretching over a short period of time for the Muse S is a concern though.
I'll stick with my Muse 2 for now until a better product after the Muse S comes along in my price range.
Thanks for the analysis though it's good to know. But seems if you're really only interested if you're generally in the right Meditative state, then the Muse 2 is the way to go for me.

    hey 😃
so i got the muse S,and after more than a month i have to say i am super satisfied,it really DOES work much better than back then, very good signal....
but i find it strange that nobody has mentioned the difference in graphs yet...
so how do you or kiefer explain the big difference in the graphs when comparing muse1 vs muse2 vs muse S?
muse2 and S are very similar but there is a big big difference between muse2/S vs muse1 in all brainwaves except delta, with gamma being + 20-25 in mm graphs with the museS/2...
so how can you use them for research when it seems the graphs/output is not accurate? coz since muse1 was used for all the research papers in the past,it logically means,or SHOULD mean they tested it for its accuracy and compared to gold standard devices,so if muse1 was accurate it means muse2 and S are not since they have such a big difference in their graphs compared to msue1... i mean the correlation between the brainwaves is still there,i can still spot things like the sleep and/or dream patterns, but the numbers (dB) have a big difference ranging from 10-25...
my guess is they used some kind of equation/code to keep delta as low as possible in comparison to the other brainwaves as delta is seen by the muse app as sleep - which is not true as in deeper states of meditation your delta is also rising the more you disconnect from your physical body - so i thought they did that to keep their feedback more accurate, and maybe thats why interaxon said muse S cant be used for research... whats your take on it?

    • @sofiiawithtwoeyes
      @sofiiawithtwoeyes 2 роки тому

Could you possibly point me to the source where InteraXon said Muse S can't be used for research? What you're saying about the difference in signal sounds like an important issue - I'm currently looking into using Muse S for sleep research and it's surprisingly hard to find any credible information about that online.

I started using Muse 1 (2016) just last week, and I can tell for sure that the signal from earlobes contains correct EEG signal (based on my neurofeedback experience which I had been doing with several other EEG devices). Maybe that signal it is contaminated with extra noise which makes the amplitude higher. But after the usual bandpass filtering it definitely has the right content. So the conclusion of this video could be quite misleading.
