    Great video - thanks Greg & Aaron. We have a Zappi gen 2, 7kwh charger - we have solar and a Powerwall 2. The Zappi combines with this so well. We can charge our Kia Niro either from solar excess, solar / Powerwall , or a combination of both & / or grid supply. Settings by either charger direct or App. Love it. I had a zappi installed at my house in July ready for my 2022 MG ZS EV delivery in August, now the zappi will be sitting idle until late October, after the latest delivery estimate from my MG dealer here in Adelaide. in the mean time the Myenergi app is great for showing solar, grid, house usage/export.

      Hi Graham, yes the ongoing delays with vehicle deliveries is frustrating but at least your ready and waiting with that charger. The Zappi and the Myenergi app are really taking off in Australia and I can see why as they are easy to use, optimise that solar generation and provide lots of interesting information. Lets just hope they can cope with those odd extremely hot days.

    I'm in the UK and have a Zappi, an Eddi (water heater) and my energy supplier has a tariff which allows them to control the car charging.
    I plug the car in and tell them how much charge I want and by when, and I get it charged at off peak rate, meaning of can export more of my solar at double the off peak import rate.
    Great kit. Great customer support.
    I should also add that i have 10+kW of PV and 10+kWh of battery with a 5kW inverter. A 100amp household fuse and a Skoda Enyaq. (In October, the second fastest selling EV in Europe)
    Don't forget that a 7.5 kW "charger" plus 5kW battery inverter plus electric oven plus aircon will have dragging out a lot of amps.

    I recently moved house and looking at a solar system for home supply only at this point as I charge my model 3 free of charge at fast chargers near me. I have not had to charge at home for over a month now since I discovered I could do this. I am in SA so we have Jolt charging stations here and one is two minutes away from me at 50kw charge speed so I put the 7kwhs that that allow for free (before charges apply) and that gives me about 50 kilometers of range. I do less than 50 kilometers most days. It takes about 10 minutes to get that charge and it’s free. If I ever run the battery a lot lower, there is a fast charge Chargefox 15 mins away that gives one hour free charging. I assume that would give me about 250 kilometres of range but have not needed it as yet. I do this charging while I am out doing other things so I make sure I am not wasting my day running around just to charge the car. I guess the free stuff will stop one day but while it is here, I won’t be needing to use superchargers or charge at home.

    Are there any EVSE's available that accommodate future V2G equipped vehicles for home?
    It sounds like legislation governing parking bays should be amended to include charging and we have to start thinking about power pole on street charging for next to a parking bays. Perhaps funding for these things can come from fuel excise.

    Great video, I did not know 'smart' chargers exist. I had heard of people using solar diverters for hot water systems etc and had originally thought I would pair a solar diverter with a hard wired 'dumb' charger. I am on single phase and would like to set up the charger outdoors in my driveway - do you have any insights on how a smart charger interacts with my solar system, how well this works, and if it is better than a dumb charger with a solar diverter?

    • @ElectricCarAustralia
      @ElectricCarAustralia  Рік тому

      Hi Mark, thanks for watching and the comment. Yes smart EV charging is relatively easy these days. All brands/types basically detect the solar feed and divert that to the charger. Some have more smarts then others but basically that's what they do.
      I am currently testing a Fronius charger which is smart with the added benefit of being able to be used ether house mounted or portal when you want to go on a road trip so does both use cases. I will have this video out in the next 4-6 weeks.

If 380V is an issue, and 220V is the only option, then phase 1, 3.5kw, and 7kw AC chargers are your only options at this stage.

    Also thanks so much for giving a run down on the issues with the Zappi first generation, I know Solar Quotes has strikes it off his recommendation list of options to chose from because he had some break on him but I saw thinking maybe it’s just because he had it in direct sunlight outside or something and putting it in a shed would be better which maybe it would… but if it’s a temp issue and the shed gets hot then maybe having it inside wouldn’t fix the issue entirely at least for the first gen. There should be an exception for people who don't own their own home or can't charge at home. I'd love to have an EV but paying for supercharging would make it expensive. I think the government should provide a rebate on either the installation of a charger OR an amount of kWh of free charging. Getting a million EV's on the road is great but we've got to be able to charge them.

    • @ElectricCarAustralia
      @ElectricCarAustralia  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching and the comment. All EVs can be charged from a PowerPoint so as long as you can park safely near one and leave car that's always an option.
      Elec is always going to be cheaper than petrol/diesel and getting cheaper the more renewables come in. Also there are many different $ rates for rapid chargers from free up to $0.7kWh so just choose one within your budget.
      The transition to EV is much easier than most people think. For those on lower income the upfront cost is the biggest issue.
      On rebates, I don't think they are a good idea as history shows prices in the market usually rise to 'soak it up' so consumers generally don't benefit. Other, better options are available and used around the world.
      Cheers
