Good to see you clearly telling people to avoid bad usage like extension cables. Untethered is what I hope to go for and just get an extra type 2 lead.

I use portable adjustable 7kw EVSE's because they are heaps cheaper than the non portable "wall mounted" versions even though they are the exact same thing. Remember - they aren't "chargers", just an interface cable between the car's charger and the power point. Being able to take it with you means that you can charge at 7kw wherever you are. With some simple power point adapter cables you can use 10A, 15A, 20A (3 phase), 32A(single or 3 phase) (which is the only way you can get to Alice springs at the moment!). Just a tip - don't get the electrician to supply the 32amp power point as they will charge you about $300 when you can just buy it yourself for about $30.

The coral reefs are dying. Bush fires are getting are getting worse. The temperature is rising. Sea levels are rising. Weather events like rain, floods, storms and droughts are getting more extreme. Everyone needs to take Climate Change seriously and do what they can to make a difference. Reduce the use of fossil fuels. Solar panels on the roof, battery storage, an EV charger and an electric vehicle are great upgrades. A electric bicycle for short distance travel makes it even more energy efficient.

A journey we all take when getting your first EV, from wall plug to 15amp, then onto a wall charger lol. I have been using a Hypervolt 2.0 for 8 months without issue including all the features you would expect from a 7kWh/32amp charger and managed via an app.

Hi Chris, make sure you get an extra CT sensor loop that can monitor what is going to your Powerwall. I think the Zappi only comes standard with 1 CT that monitors the grid side of your system so that it can fill up your car when that power would otherwise be exported. The CT to the battery enables the Zappi to work with the battery. You can choose how you want it to work. I usually prioritise the Powerwall and once the Powerwall is full, the excess energy goes to the car.

For the first few months after getting our EV, I charged from a 10 amp powerpoint when the solar was generating. For the last year we have used a Zappi set to deliver only solar.
The only problem was that the Zappi can't distinguish between solar and our battery - and it was drawing energy from the battery. At the time, Zappi support said the only way to stop this is to have a constant export of ~150 watts in the settings. When we charge using solar, we are also continually exporting a small amount of energy to the grid, but it works OK.

Sounds like a setting thing; also maybe not enough CT sensors were installed? More info in my next video.

@@chrisvanderstock initially I purchased three CT clamps, assuming that a CT would be on the cable to the battery. But, this can only be done with an AC-coupled battery. As our battery is DC-coupled, there's no separate battery cable to attach a CT clamp to. So I had to return the third CT clamp. Apparently this is one of the drawbacks of having a DC-coupled battery - but on the positive side we don't have as much energy loss as happens when energy is sent from the rooftop solar to an AC-coupled battery. I look forward to your next video.

Can you cover V2G please. While you are fighting the Vic gov, can you take on the federal gov too and force them to insist on V2G for all imported vehicles?

@@chrisvanderstock we originally had, 6 months ago, a 24 month waiting time. Now that the Labour gov are in. They have been pushing for a faster transition, so I am hearing half that time. Some of this stuff seems a bit overpriced to me Chris. I had a 32 amp circuit installed plus a 5 pin socket[ about $300] coupled with a compatible tail ($190) that plugs into the standard Tesla 'charger' that came with my model 3. That gets me about 7 kilowatts of charging capability for a pretty cheap price. It would be good however if it would only pull what's coming from the solar panels. I've got a phone app for the solar and with the Tesla app can manually adjust so that the car is only getting what the solar makes. The setup you describe does that automatically which is a great feature but surely someone could write a little phone app the interfaces with the Tesla app to do the same thing

There is an app cloud solution which I'll cover soon. I'm waiting on the owner to finish his install and will detail it. Are you using the UMC that came with the car? If so, isn't that limited to 15 amps?

I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a replacement 15 amp tail from Tesla, as previously only an ? 8 amp and a 12 amp tails were supplied.
