So pumped to finally get to ride a Supersport! This is a fun bike that would be great for beginner to intermediate riders. I own a Supersport S since 2018. After 20 years of riding, I consider myself as an experienced rider. I can absolutely recommend that bike! Perfect mix of power and handling for streetriding, comfotable enough for touring, you can even take it to the track and - last but not least - great looks.

I was thinking, I bet this bike would out ride 98% of all riders out there. To say it is not as good as the "elite" litre bikes etc etc is just disingenuous and just shows a certain level of arrogance. That being said I am sure the OP is riding those "elite" litre bikes all the way to the edge and back with no problems at all...

I started with 125 too. It's good for us. Whoever starts on 250cc+ bike is prolly going to hurt himself if not really really careful.
You can start on anything. The hardest thing to ride are Harleys because they have generate a lot of power at very small throttle openings. They aren't terribly fast, the just make power at low rpms. Makes it easy to lose control.
Most of these repli-racer oversquare engines are very docile if you don't pin the throttle. The biggest problem with starting on a sportbike is the terrible body position for street riding. They make a lot of sense for making an aerodynamic package heading down the straightaway at a race track. They don't make any sense for riding on the street.
A lot of guys think they're "experts" because they've learned to turn the throttle and accelerate fast in a straight line. They'll find out how little they actually know when something enters their path.

How is the 300cc motorcycle in your story, the culprit for your inadequacy of realizing that you were going too fast?! If anything, it is proof that you were not ready to upgrade to a 600cc, if you didn't realize that you needed time to get acclimated to the acceleration of a 600cc motorbike, it has nothing to do with the fact that you started on a 300cc and the result would have been even worst, if in fact, you started on a 600cc motorcycle.
vTaqz I’ve been riding dirt bikes my whole life but my first street bike was ducati hypermotard 796 . Such a fun bike !! I live in Canada so you can start on whatever you want you just have to pay out the ass for insurance but the hyper was actually really cheap for insurance .
I started on 800cc and I am fine after 10years. My advice is to use a brain while riding, always ;]
the supersport is for those who dont want to lose their license. It has lots of rideable power.
With the ducati comfort seat and its slighty higher bars it's easy to do 8+ hour days.
It also sounds amazing with the full akrapovic system.

How is that a beginner bike ? It has 937cc! The riding position is more upright, hence, it is much more friendly towards low speed maneuver than, let's say, an R1, but it's not catering to brand new MSF graduate at all. WTF?!

As others have said, rider modes on bikes the last few years have made higher CC bikes acceptable for newer riders. The B or Rain modes scale down the power delivery. Most also come with TC and ABS, further aiding new riders compared to cheaper, lower CC bikes without them. I know a few riders that have started on these newer bikes and had zero problems. Admittedly, I think you need to be a more 'mature' minded rider to begin this way and have the discipline to stay within yourself and not move up the modes too soon.

I had the Supersport S for a few weeks as a loner! while my Multistrada was in repair after a crash. I really liked it, did 6000km on it and almost made me buy one. Easy to handle and big BIG fun on the curvy roads. Its sporty, comfortable and very easy to handle. I could do easy 400km a day on it. Good windprotection, a nice quickshifter and just FUN fun FUN in the twisties

Good video and thanks for testing this bike. I love my Ducati Supersport S in red. I wouldn't necessarily call it a beginner bike but rather a more forgiving and comfortable bike that can double as a touring or sport bike, which is what Ducati intended it to be. For a true beginner, I'd suggest something a little smaller than this bike like a Honda CBR 650F.
I have been riding my SuperSport S since 2017 and it is my 4th, and favorite, Ducati. Replaced the buzzy mirrors with CRG lane splitter bar ends, LED front and rear turn signals and tail eliminator. Biggest mod was a full Akrapovic titanium moto GP style high exhaust (with chip) which added 10 HP, fully exposed the rear wheel and lightened the bike about 17 lbs.
Are the passenger pegs gone after that Akrapovic install ? Love that exhaust !

I like the way that supersport looks. The way the lines of the tank flow back, take a break at the seat, but pick back up and continue on the tail. I dig it!

Nice review! However that’s no beginners bike and possibly above your riding abilities.... even considering your first time on it.
Great review, this is a perfect blend of street riding, touring and occasional track days, although I bought a Ninja 1000 over this for reliability, but If Ducati after sales is good in your country/city, get this one without thinking unless you are I4 setup enthusiast. That being said, this isn’t a beginner bike at all, this has serious torque low down which would make learning difficult for beginner riders.
I've been riding for over 10 years, quite a few Ducati's (848,1098, Monster 1200r). Now a proud owner of the a white supersport s with the full akra and a 14t, sprocket. This bike is by far my favorite and its an absolute beast when rode hard. Have tonnes of friends on faster bikes and none can keep up to me when in the twisties, it begs you to ride faster, when dialed in the Ohlins can handle any upsets and I would highly recommend this bike for anyone. It helps that I'm a light rider but you won't regret it, my favorite Ducati thus far and its nice to use the entire rev range and all the gears.
I have a 1999 900SS and I love that bike so much. Great to see Ducati brought the SuperSport back!
Just recently bought a 2019 SuperSport and I absolutely love it. First time riding in 6 years, and I honestly felt right at home on it. I would recommend that bike 100% to anyone.

@@JaretCampisihad to make a new google account lol, but hey I appreciate the response man! 9 months later and still loving it, picked my wife up an Mt-03 as a beginner bike, and her and I have been having a blast together. Came back to this video obviously because the way you describe the bike while riding it is such a great example of what good fun this bike truly is, and giving it that extra push when in sport mode really makes for a fun time on the freeway lol.
great review and ride, really makes me want to consider this bike in 2020. with a name like supersport I didnt consider it a candidate for comfort as an every day rider...seems to fall into a sport touring/street fighter mold against the likes of the triumph speed/street triples or the yamaha mt9/10 only this is a ducati so its also beautiful

This might sound crazy but I wish I bought this bike over my panigale.
Alex Retter it’s so comfortable for long rides. I have bad lower back and ride over two hours with no problems with my back. Won’t have the power of the panigale but still fun.

I am considering which one to buy. My heart says Panigale 959, but my head says SuperSport. I don't have the money, so I think I will first buy an Aprilia rsv1000 2005. I don't want to take a loan to buy the Ducati.
@@Morten_Nielsen1979 Supersports are a dumb choice unless you are doing track riding.And by supersport I mean the category, not this Ducati , which seams to have more reasonable ergos. All young riders make the same mistake and get a super agrressive race bike. Try a naked or more upright bike with power and you will never look back, sport riding with comfort and touring capabilities. No brainer.

Hey Jaret, I just wanted to comment on what you said about ducati making this bike a whole new category, which is untrue. The riser clipons like on this supersport are present on smaller "sport touring/ sportbike" motorcycles, such as the R3, ninja 300/400s, GsX250Rs, etc. Basically making them easier to ride and not as aggressive of a seating position compared to the bigger supersports. Personally I find them them really comfortable.
Thank you for the review. I am considering this as my next bike. I have only been able to see and sit on one at COTA's Moto GP. I want something more sporty and able to take on longer rides compared to my Monster.
I'll be honest I don't consider this to be a great touring bike for longer rides...I'd be much happier on a Diavel 1260 and I can even ride harder and faster on the Diavel as well. I'd recommend that for you over this for what you're describing.
As someone who owns a SuperSport S - no beginner rider should start on this bike 💯 . It’s too much power for a beginner even in urban mode!

It's not. It doesn't make much horsepower for a 1000cc. Average 1000 makes about 200hp where this one makes less than 120hp. Which is closer to a 600cc
@@ryanwhittington1825 "average" isnt 200hp, most manufacturers have only 1 or 2 bikes that go over the 200hp while most stay way below that.
And 110hp on a bi-cylinder is far more dangerous than on a four cylinder if we're talking about beginners.
The power in urban mode is 75hp and it dumbs down the throttle. You can definitely start on that.

Got the 2018 model and love it! Been riding for 20 yrs and it’s more than enough for me.
It was the 2018 supersport or the triumph street triple for me.
I went with the triumph and I regret it all the time. I feel so dumb.
TeensierPython - never rode the triumph but I also looked at that bike but got a great deal on the super sport s so that’s why I went for the Ducati. Haven’t heard anything bad about the triumph.
I was cheap in a moment of weakness. Could have gotten the super sport for about 1k more and didn’t do it. Like I said. I regret it constantly.
TeensierPython - oh ok then u could’ve got it really cheap too. I’ve told myself to not cheap out if the one I want isn’t that much more. I could’ve got the regular super sport for way cheaper but I had my heart set on the s model so I said f it get what u want. You only live once. Lol
I even told the dealer I would rather spend the extra for the bike I wanted. And somehow I still decided to cheap out.

Thanks for this vlog Jaret. I have been looking at this bike for a bit and will ride it to confirm it's it. As one of your other viewers posted, it's a good bike not to lose your license on, but you can still rip with it. I have a Scrambler 803 and it's fun, but a bit underpowered, thus the SS. See Jaret, See wha i meant when i Messaged you on insta the other day, you need to branch out onto other bike categories too, don't be a stickler for only sports bikes...if you want to increase your subscribers, then please ride adventure tourers like the Triumph Tiger, The BMW 1200GSA, The Ducati Multistrada....and many more...if you stick to only superbikes then you will only get to a limited crowd(especially if you stick to a particular brand *cough* *cough* ducati *cough* *cough*)....

But why is anything with no high end specs "for beginners..."? It depends on the usage profile. The SS is a sporty road bike, not a racetrack bike. In my opinion it's also for experienced riders more fun on roads and longer tours as the Panigale 959.
In the rpm-range (5k - 7k) you need and use on roads the SS (max. Power 110) has even more power than the small Panigale (max. 150HP on paper, but you need 11k rpm to get this).
I own the SS, ride it in the alps for day-tours like 200 - 400 km. I think for this purpose there are not many bikes which can compete (probably a street triple RS or Aprilia Tuono), if you are "beginner" or not.
Nice review. Ducati sends y'all another "loaner" bike. Man, they need to up the anti and just give you guys the bikes. Motorcycle companies, even Harley, give bikes to people that think can help generate interest in their bikes. Come on, Ducati, if Harley can give some bikes away, why not give these bikes to Jaret and Christina? They are respected as athletes, popular, and well respected, as motovloggers, and now T.V. celebrities. Just give them the damn bikes already. They are giving you the best type of advertisement available. You spend millions of dollars a year in advertisements, yet word of mouth is always the best type. Can you tell Ducati to update the Supersport with a new dash and some way to reduce the seat heat.
Seat heat is a big problem. Especially on hot days. Everything else is awesome.

Regarding the clip-ons, check out a Honda 929. This is a common technique to deliver a more comfortable riding position on what is essentially a sport bike. Aftermarket addresses this as well.
I think he’s better off checking out the vfr800 it’s closer to this bike than the 929

Its funny how in 2023, or when this video was made 3 years ago, a 110 Horse power bike with probably as much power as any bike that existed when I was your age, can be called a beginner bike. I don't know what kind of beginner you are talking about. when I started on motorcycles many years ago people started on bikes like a Honda 175 or a 350. I have been riding bikes for my entire life. started out on the dirt, and I just bought 2019 939 with only 2200 km on it, . and its such a beautiful machine. I am in love with it. and it has plenty of power to get in trouble with. and I love the way it feels and handles. it is stable and confident inspiring. the only thing I don't like is the engine heat, I know in 2023 110 horse power is half of what some other insane bikes have, but beginner it is not. maybe a beginner who at least had one bike before it, what do you think about the 2018 BMW S1000R ? because I also saw one of those for sale with 2400 km. how would you compare it to the Supersport. I know it has allot more power with 159HP.
These bikes have rider modes that detune the bikes down to about half the horse power and they also have safety features that bikes in the past never had with wheelie control, traction control, anti lock brakes etc so its easier than its ever been to start on a bike like this now
I like it. I prefer the testastrettas over the superquadros.

Yes that sounds about exactly how I felt about it too. Great all around fun bike to not get into too much trouble with. I'm using a sena 20s evo system that is connected to my gopro via the sena bluetooth audio backpack. That allows my sena 20s evo mic to record the audio and it puts my intercom conversations on the footage as well.
@@JaretCampisi ah ok, I had that setup and hated it. Well I had it with the 30k using a hero 4 with the sena pack. It would disconnect randomly and I'd loose all my audio. So I went with the gopro adapter and purple panda mic.

I enjoyed the R nine T BUT I'd say try out a Diavel 1260 before you buy anything because I've ridden A LOT of bikes and that is the most fun bike I've ridden to date.

I don’t know if we can call a $13K sport bike with 110hp a bike for beginners. Of course, people can start riding on this but is if recommended? I started riding on a 125cc, then bought a 600cc, then a 900cc etc... and I glad I did, personally.

Kept referring to the Diavel, which IMO is a POS - except for straight line touring. Bought a Diavel new and sold it after just 600 miles.

Hey just got my r6 a couple days ago but i cant use it because i dont have my permit. How many questions are on the permit test in california?
From what I remember, there is like 25 questions.

Jonathan Esqueda I believe four different tests. However, I took it 20 years ago and now it is all computerized. There are some very good examples of the questions online, so do a search for the test questions. Also, read the free study pamphlet a few times and you won’t have any trouble.

Dude gets repped by Ducati for riding fast bikes like a gramma. He gets five degrees of lean angle, slams the front brakes, then says "chassis got a little upset". I love my 848 and loved my old Monster but Aprilia or MV gettin my money next time round. Idk wtf happened to this brand.
