    Hi Lara, after seeing this bike right after it´s launch in 2016 I had to change my decision away from a BMW towards the Supersport S. I‘ve got the bike in July 2017 and was driving now about 36.000 km and about 90% in the Alps ( I live in Bavaria at the bottom of the Alps, right at the border to Austria and even close to Switzerland, so it‘s a paradise for Bikers ;) ) So after this 2 years, I can only confirm, that this bike is sensational! Although I‘m 93 kg and 190 cm tall, I‘ riding 7-8 hours with absolutely no problem, even with package or a bigpack, etc. You nearly see this bike very

      PA B hi there, if it’s ok to ask question. After like more than 5 hours riding any discomfort in the legs or knees? Since you’re slightly taller than me. Thank you

      @@bobbyuykim Hi Bobby, not really, at least nothing noticable. Could be, because I‘m very actively moving my weight on the machine, so I‘m changing my position permanently, when it‘s curvy. As well as the position of my feet. But also on „normal“ trips, which are most of the time about 300-350 km I normally never have any problem with discomfort. What is absolutely great as well is the saddle. So no worries, you will have no problems and enjoy this fantastic bike! Hope, that helped! Stay seated :-)

      Hey bobby! I had a few aches in my shoulders (I'm 5'10') but thats just me not relaxing when I'm riding. If you have no discomfort after 5 hours of riding I'd be impressed, I'm sure a few niggles would be likely! The saddle is pretty plush - I move around a lot like PA B below too :)

      Laramoto hi Lara I asked the question since I’m planning to get 1 of this I come from a bmw rninet racer with helibars still aggressive but not as much anymore. But mostly I find discomfort at the back of my knees when riding more than 2 hrs. And also the suspension of the rninet is not meant to be ridden more than 2 hrs. I’m hoping it’s lot better in the ss can’t wait to get mine thank you

    I agree. I don’t like pannier and absolutely loathe top boxes. I’m a 90 degree (L) twin fanatic. I currently have a Supersport,950 and a RC51. I’m looking to move from US to Portugal and hope to ride in the Pyrenees too! I’ve been and walked in the Pyrenees loads of times but have always wanted to ride a bike on those roads.

    I agree with everything you said about the bike. The bike is at home on big sweeping turns. Not as much so on smaller canyon turns. I love the characture if the bike. Love the engine. The stabilty. How it holds its line on the big sweeping turns. I love the looks and the sound of the bike. But the bike doesnt like being below 3000 rpm. So in very slow stop and go city traffic where you are in first gear at one and two thousand rpm. Stopping and starting. The bike is not at all injoyable to be on which i found out tonight. Plus the engine heat in slow traffic. So there are definetally better bikes for city traffic. Other than that i really love my SuperSport.

    Lara: A wonderful video, thank you. Probably the best review I've seen and it's also refreshing to see a woman reviewer for a change. If I may: Your opinion is NOT biased. No one has influenced you or paid you. Rather, it's subjective as all opinions are. But unlike most, yours is informed and is more than mere opinion: it's a judgement based on some 2000 miles of very serious riding as well as years of riding other bikes that give you a basis of comparison (this is the old academic in me talking). Meanwhile: I ended up going with the Streetfighter 848 (better deal on a used one) but I think my heart is with the Supersport, so time will tell! Warm wishes and safe riding.

    Hi Lara,
    Great video! The Pyrenees are on my bucket list.
    I used to own a 1997 VFR750. I miss the sound of that engine and exhaust. And the wind protection of the nose.
    I’ve had a Supersport S for two years and absolutely LOVE her! I ride on the weekends on Northern California roads - primarily Hwy 1. She is a blast! The L-twin engine torque is perfect for the twisties!
    I also don’t like panniers so I went with Ventura Rack. I use their small bag for local rides and the larger Aeropack for overnight rides. Easy on-off like panniers and it keeps the bike skinny for lane-splitting. I like the small pack for local rides because it keeps the water off my back. Ducati designed this bike for dry roads only. Water gets everywhere!
    I’m going to watch your review of the Yamaha MT-10. Love the sound of that engine!
    Ride safe!

    ...(sorry)...often, only once or twice per season, so completely different compared to the thousands of GS, etc. This year I was riding the Routes des Grandes Alpes and a lot of other trips about a week or 4 days in Austria, Slowenia, Italy and France. No issue at all! Last year they had to replace the quickshifter, which was done on guarantee. The look and the sound are outstanding and the suspension a dream! Mods wise I think I've listed most in the vid. Bigger bubble screen, carbon nose guard and if you like the looks, the Akro pipes and a remap to match. ££££! You'll find the ride so different from a smooth triple to a torquey double, less screaming and more thumping :)

    Awesome review. I wanted to see a review of this bike from someone who actually rode it and put some miles on the bike. So many other reviews have been single rides and haven't given a full in depth review. I'll definitely be purchasing a Supersport S with the akra pipes, might even add the belly pan to finish off the flairings giving it a better look. Would love to, if the funds are there to wrap in yellow vinyl cos I love old yellow Ducatis

      Super grateful for your feedback Justin! It was great in all roads - just needed to drop her into the hairpins a bit harder than an adventure bike :) Great to hear that you're joining the club! The forum is a friendly place too.
      I love the Akros, really bring the bike to life and a bit less like a sewing machine. Belly pan is a good shout to tidy up the bottom. Some people aren't keen on the twin pipes under the seat tho, makes it a bit cafe racer rear and sporty front - but its worth it for the noise (and the weight saving!).
      Yellow would be RADICAL - send photos if you do it!

    • @duc9395
      @duc9395 4 роки тому

      Just be aware that ducati initially recalled the bike to add a heat shield on the rear header. With the Akra pipes that heat shield does not fit. So the pipes themselves are under seat mounted which adds heat, but also you end up missing the heat shield. Just something to consider. I learnt that after I bought mine with the Akra pipes and it was soooooo much hotter than the one I test rode with standard pipes and heat shield fitted.
      People who bought the standard model with the Sachs rear shock had issues with their rear bump stop melting from the rear header.
      Great bike, I love it. But very unreliable quickshifter. I'm on my third and it's become unusable. Love the way it handles and comfort though.

    It's a great video. However I do have one nitpick. When you race you wear suitable clothing, yet when you're touring you wear unsuitable kit.
    I do destructive testing of materials used in motorcycle clothing as a public service (totally unsponsored and at my own expense). Any textile I've tested has performed badly compared to competition grade leather. I'd highly recommend some perforated leather kit for hot weather riding. I dumped my textile kit after testing its crashworthiness (essentially it had very little) and bought a perforated leather jacket instead. I also dumped my wife's mesh textile jacket and bought her a perforated leather jacket too. It was just as comfortable in Southern Vietnam which I'm sure is a lot hotter and more humid than the Pyrenees. Most importantly, they are orders of magnitude better protection than any textile combo I've ever tested.

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  2 роки тому

      Hello! Thank you so much for watching :) I'm 100% positive that I'm wearing the right kit for touring, I swear by Knox gear and their crash safety rating is impeccable. I agree that leather will protect you more, but riding in leather on a hot day is terrible. The Knox Urbane Pro is a great compromise - breathable and with sufficient 'spill' protection. But thank you so much for sharing your testing knowledge, we should tackle those on bikes that don't wear any protective kit at all!

    • @low-costgearbudgettour714
      @low-costgearbudgettour714 2 роки тому +1

      @@Laramoto Thanks for replying Lara. We all decide which kit is suitable for us and our safety tolerance. I'm 58 so I don't heal as well so I'm ATGATT+. After testing all kinds of textiles, I went back to leather.
      For Southern Vietnam, one of the hottest and most humid places one can ride, I was perfectly comfortable in a perforated leather jacket on a naked scooter. Speeds weren't high but any speed at all pushes some air through the jacket. Higher speeds does more. The only problem is with no speed situations but that was a rare occurrence for me. I'm extremely susceptible to heat, being British, so I suffered working outside doing my crash testing but never when riding. The difference is huge.
      With just about all textiles, they WILL fail with an impact. CE EN17092 testing doesn't really test impact at all, just sliding abrasion. They drop from 10mm (3/8"). They only consider slide. Even the previous EN13595 (definitely a more aggressive test), they also only drop from 50mm (2"). That's unrealistic. Most touring riders will tumble a lot and slide a little. This is where textiles do worst. That's why I tested for impact (a 1 metre drop) with some bouncing (tumbling equivalent) and then slide. The best performance cowhide I tested in double layers, achieved 11 crashes and 200 metres of accumulated sliding. The second layer was still intact. I couldn't destroy it. I think it would've tolerated 4-5 more "crashes". Whereas, most single of even double layers of polyester or nylon managed about 1-4 metres and the test was for a 16 metres slide. So most of the slide was eating armour or skin.
      Essentially, textiles will fail immediately or within a few metres of the impact but your armour will protect you, if you didn't take it out and in the areas it covers. One nice thing I will say about Knox, is they make great armour. It's my favourite armour (level 2 microlock) and I own 2 pairs of their gloves. They're pretty good too. However, their textiles are not very protective at all. Just like leathers, multiple layers will generally give you additional insurance to save your skin. Heavy nylon cordura and kevlar (420gsm) was about the best performing textile.

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  2 роки тому

      So glad to read you like Knox kit! I swear by their stuff. I think clothing is a compromise and yes, I full expect to slide once in the textiles and then get a new set. Road crashes are really really rare for me. But on the track, I've slid in my leathers countless times and still they survive, so the evidence is there. Thank you for sharing that detail, really appreciate it!

I actually don't think the panniers look too bad when on the bike but the frame they are mounted to is awful and very 90s and I think that Ducati should do a much neater solution. @laramoto, From this nice review I can guess that you are a racer through and through. Am I right? Anyway, you forgot one important point: Few people live in canyon or near a track or near twisty roads where they can really enjoy the ride as you described it. Compared to a Street Triple or a Yamaha MT9 or another naked bike, how is your Supersport in slow traffic (30m/h) in town? Is it unrideable under 20-30 m/h like some Ducati? I understand that the Supersport is enjoyable only if the revs are above 5,000, otherwise it is jerky. Is this true? Can you commute on this your bike in town like on a Street Triple?
    Otherwise, great video. Keep up the good work.

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Aimé! Thanks for your comment and yes, you guessed right - I am a racer! I appreciate the reality check that not many are near epic roads. The bike is easy enough to ride through cities and traffic, its pretty slim and you feel high enough to see things. Its smooth enough for a big L twin and I don't find it jerky, just need some decent clutch/throttle control. The worst issue is the temperature, it gets hot when its not moving much. I'd be happy, and have, commuted on my SS, but a Street Triple is probably a better commuter as there is less fairing to clean and its even more upright with wider bars. And being a lovely triple, it will be super smooth!

    Woudl you recommend any type of panniers? I saw the original ones, but they don't look big enough for 2 people.
    Thanks. Greetings from Portugal.

      Hello Joao! Thanks for commenting 👍 - so the panniers don’t fit with my Akro silencers. If I had the original exhaust fitted I’d probably get hard panniers. Lower CoG, less faff, more robust.
      I think you could have a pannier each of you packed light and washed your clothes 🤗 - the Ducati ones look the best I think.
      Greetings from the UK 🥰

    Great review thanks Laramoto! What other mods have you made to the bike? Is Audi build quality noticible on the Ducati? Obviously it was great on the tour but how is the reliability of new Ducati models?

      Hello bjmartin! Thanks for watching! I've fitted the Evotech brake and clutch levers because they look better than standard. Other than the normal Ducati rattle, I've not had to tighten anything up yet - it seems solidly built so far. I did keep an eye on the oil though, 400ml top up on the trip. The SS has longer service intervals than its V4 counterparts so another super benefit :)

    Great review !I have a 17 Supersport S - have you had any problems with false neutrals using the quick shifter ?

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Paul! Great bike choice :) - I assume you're in the forum? And yes, I thought it was my clumsy gear changes but she finds false neutrals in down to 2nd sometimes and just plays up when I'm not concentrating. More so recently but 90% of the time its all clean :)

    Am going from fireblade...looking at Z900RS but then this came into my view...I ride everyday to work, in all weathers...does this fit the bill from your perspective? is it weather friendly and reliable...cheers, excellent review

      Hello Paul! Thanks for watching the video 💪 reliability wise, my SS has never missed a beat so it’s solid. It has a wet weather mode, but a relatively skinny fairing so not much protection. Heated grips recommended and the seat gets toasty which is amazing in winter.
      The DucatiSS sometimes have false neutral problems so keep an eye out for that. It’s a much better looking bike (IMHO) than the Kwak, but it’s going to feel like a lumpy twin rather than the Z900. People will talk to you about the SS when you park it up! 😀🥰

    Nice interesting video. good info. on packing. I have owned a lot of other bikes this is my first Ducati and just love it. Do you do your owen maintenance? if so how are you turning off your Service light after oil change? you also said you hard wired your GPS to the bike did you use the little white plug (end is open) that sits to the right and fwd of the fuel tank? some day I'd like to get my bike in the Pyrenees. have fun ride safe Aloha

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Bryson! Really appreciate it. I didn't cover the tools I took under the seat too - more space than you think!
      Its my first Ducati too! Raced a few of them but the only one I've actually owned. I do chain maintenance, probably pads and oil but I've used the garage to clear service light.
      The GPS is plugged into the white plugs on the RHS of the tank as you suggested, the heated grips are also plugged into the spare white plugs too.
      I can't recommend the Pyrenees enough - genuinely incredible!

    Hi Lara, did you have any wet weather on tour. I can home in the rain yesterday and was covered in road dirt. The Mudguards appear to be purely cosmetic.

      Yeah we ride lots in the wet, but she’s not really faired at all for it. Water / mud everywhere 😱

    Hey Lara have you had any fuel sensor issues yet ? Mine has failed with just 6500 miles on the clock (17 reg) apparently it’s a common issue according to many owners on the SSS forum.
