      If I could convince you to visit again, I’d take you on a grand adventure in my offshore charter boat. My family relocated to Anna Maria Island, Florida USA in 1977. We became very close friends with a commercial fisherman who had 3 daughters and no sons. Well my family never saw me again mate. I managed to attend 1year of college and I was solicited to captain an upcoming offshore charter boat. I was truly living a dream. I was dating/living (in sin) with the future owner of the fish company that I had grown up fishing for. I began winning tournaments and then took off on a 13,000,000 ( I just like all the zeros) 45m sport fishing yacht. I returned home and purchased the “Reef Reacher” my very own offshore boat. It even had the big aluminum tower for spotting fish at a distance.
      All was well until 2015 I injured myself on the spine of a saltwater catfish. That wound became infected internally and went undiagnosed. The infection did irreparable damage to my spine and in 2022 I collapsed paralyzed in my bathroom.
      I thought that life as I knew it was over. However I didn’t freak out. I sold everything and moved home and attended the Cleveland Clinic Spine Institute and now today exactly 3 years later to the day I’m able to get myself up and use a walker for short distances. God has seen fit to let me walk again. Now he didn’t just give it to me. I’ve been experiencing the most horrible torturous nerve pain for 15 months. There’s no medication that helps. By the time you get enough in me I’ll pass out. Somehow I got through this far. I did live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania for a bit and that’s where metal detectors came in. I lived inside a state park essentially. The home were built before the area was designated as a State Park. George Washington crossed the Delaware River in a funk attempt to drive the British from Trenton New Jersey. So the artifacts of this era (1776) obviously have substantial significance. We also find items that have been manufactured by Native American people. In early American history we often traded items with native Americans. These items included brass kettles. These brass kettles would inevitably break down and the native people would shape them into “points” some were conical and pushed over the tip of an arrow shaft, some were triangular shaped and driven into the shaft then the shaft were bound with “senu” or fiber. This was important because the metal arrowheads were much lighter and aerodynamic. These metal arrowheads were a game changer for indigenous peoples. They’re also the earliest metal relics that we discover here. They’re believed to have originated from the early 17th century

      Hi Mark, the small finds display tray with the red material was from a guy on Facebook called Steve Castle. If you go on Facebook and search him, you should find him easily. He wanted £20 for this particular one, although its a bit small for me. I am looking at getting a bigger and nicer one. Hope this helps. Gareth

    Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰 my name is Paul. Enjoying your videos 👍😉 Maybe you already did a video on this, but I'm curious to know how you register your old age finds (GPS coordinates, FLO etc.).
    In DK we register all the old stuff and hand it over to the local museum. We might receive a small tax free reward depending on the items we find incl. a letter from the National Museum describing the find.

      Hello & Greetings to you Paul from Denmark, pleased to meet you, and thank you for your kind words. With the items that I have had recorded I show them on Google Maps the locations / co-ordinates of the finds. But to be honest, I don't really record things anymore, as my local FLO is a 50 mile round trip away and I simply cannot justify paying the petrol costs, paying to park in the city and sacrificing half of a Saturday. I found 4 medieval silver coins together several years ago, they have had them ever since, who knows when I will get them back. I will not be recording such items in future. Thanks for taking the time to watch this video, I hope to see you on my next episode. Gareth

      Hello there Donald from Pennsylvania, pleased to meet you. It is awesome to know that our friends from the other side of the pond tune in to watch my tiny metal detecting channel here in Derbyshire, England. Thank you :) The spade is made by a good friend of mine called Carl, his brand is called Noble MDT, you can find him on Facebook or Instagram if you search Noble MDT. I think he has shipped a couple to the States before, but shipping costs are astronomical. Its a really great spade though, love mine, been using it heavily for a couple years now. Thanks again and I hope to see you on the next episode. Gareth

    Hi Garth still going back though your old videos I seen you find what I think you called a “decorated spindle wall” several times over your videos what are they. Andy in Surrey

    • @TheDukesOfDerbyshire
      @TheDukesOfDerbyshire  2 місяці тому

      Hi Andy, yes spindle whorls are very common in Derbyshire and the decorated ones can be very beautiful. A quick Google explanation:
      A spindle whorl is a weighted object fitted to a spindle to help maintain the spindle's speed of rotation while spinning yarn. It typically takes the form of a disk or spherical object, sometimes whorled, normally positioned on the bottom of the spindle. The spinner spins the resulting weighted spindle up to speed, which the whorl maintains, and then slowly pulls the fabric off a mass of fibers which the spindle then twists into yarn.
      Historically, whorls have been made of materials like amber, antler, bone, ceramic, coral, glass, stone, metal (iron, lead, lead alloy), and wood (oak). Local sourced materials have been also used, such as chalk, limestone, mudstone, sandstone, slate, lydite and soapstone.
      Hope this helps and hope to see you again on another episode. G
