Minelab Manticore MISSED THIS GOLD In General All Terrain

  • I just finished my Target ID Bible for the Minelab Manticore. I tested the target ID for hundreds of treasures I found metal detecting. Most registered fine, but when in General All Terrain mode, the first 4 numbers (1,2,3,4) of the Target ID are notched out. You can go in all metal mode and everything is fine, but most people like to run it in a quieter mode that notches out iron and doesn't pick up every little tiny piece of metal. When you operate with the mask (which notches out certain segments of an XY Graph, you will miss gold. This is the case in the General All Terrain program. Not the Beach General program.

    I think the problem with gold giving a low conductivity reading is down to physics rather than any machine fault. That 0-99 conductivity scale is not really a linear scale. Keeping things simple, try thinking of it as a rotary scale. Gold is really very conductive so if the conductivity response goes beyond 99 it shows up at the bottom end of the scale again, so a response of 102 would show as 3 on the scale. This is just because we are dealing with the physics of an angluar scale, not a linear scale so no fault of the machine or its designer.

    I learned something too, if you hit all metal in the disc pattern menu, the notches in the custom disc pattern still come back with the horseshoe off, so it is basically just another way to turn all metal on, you still have to adjust your custom disc pattern, if you use horseshoe off, thanks for your video

      It's that easy, yeah. And if you're LOOKING for gold where you are, you'll notch that out and dig anything in that area. ESPECIALLY considering how nice those inkblot marks were on the 2D screen.

      @@willthedingo With bottle caps virtually disc'd you'll just miss gold in that range anyway. Gold hunting is HARD. You need to basically clean everything out lol. Your machine can't help you. Also it should say in the manual that any disc may lose small gold. I'm pretty sure the Legend manual now says this but I don't have manticore manual to read so I'm not sure.

    Gold chains come in at what I call the foil range and the foil range is just above iron so I can see iron mask doing that. You wouldn't run that when hunting for jewlery. That 10k ring brings up a good point though. That ring is broken and now takes on the conductivity of a gold chain or foil. Push that ring together so the crack makes contact and it will go back up in the pulltab range where it should be. Those people skipping foil range could be leaving nice gold behind. I get excited for targets in the foil range. Really surprised a machine like the Manticore doesn't have a standard beach mode that picks up that low end range where fine gold is and still give iron rejection. Nevermind, lol, They do. Just watched the rest of the video. The original Whites Spectrum had these same modes pretty much and would mask out small gold or foil on some modes. The had a Coin and Jeweler mode that I believe would too and then a jeweler mode that would pick up either a few below zero and up or zero and up. Zero being the least conductive Non-Ferrous target. I laugh at watching yall younger guys learning this new/old tech :).

      @@MetalDetectingNYC All Nokta did way back in version 1.05 was lower the default ferrous/non-ferrous tone break from 11 to 10. That's all. No major firmware update to fix a non-existent "issue" because anyone with half a brain and some experience hunting for gold jewelry knows to accept at least some of the iron range target IDs anyway to take care of micro gold jewelry, smaller chains and especially damaged/broken gold jewelry like the cracked ring Merrill used in his original video. All of that is handled very nicely on the Legend using the G discrimination pattern. Merrill did not mention the “issue” on the Equinox 600/800 which also has Park 1 default rejects-9 to 1, Park 2 default rejects -9 to 0, Field 1 default rejects -9 to 2 and Field 2 default rejects -9 to 2. Anyone that doesn’t know their Equinox 600/800 and does a gold test using default settings with Merrill’s targets will also be missing gold with the Equinox 600/800. Minelab did not change their tone breaks for those default modes like Nokta did. Another very famous UA-cam master teacher made a video where he claimed that another detector outperformed the Equinox 800 because the 800 called a boderline non-ferrous target that had a target ID of 1 to 2 in default Field 2 an iron target……..DUH!!!!

    So you stated "I find most of my rings at the beach so it's not a big deal"
    That implies your happy that the detector won't find a lot of jewelry at century old parks homesteads, amusement areas etc...

    Just food for thought...

    • @MrBottlecapBill
      @MrBottlecapBill Рік тому +2

      Yup and think about this. HOw many gold pendants do people find? The chains that went with them are most likely there as well........just sitting there. Nobody digs those low iron range tones though, accept for gold hunters who know you have to clean an area out to find all the gold. You machine will find the chunky stuff.........the fine stuff you can't run disc for or even use tones in many cases.

    • @hiluxyota7200
      @hiluxyota7200 Рік тому +1

      It hits gold really hard on beach deep and low with wide open screen. Only bad thing is it falses too dam bad. It hit hard on over 100 gold rings and small earrings that I waved over the coil. But with any kind of filter put on it’s going to not hit on everything.

    • @SandBoy408
      @SandBoy408 Рік тому +1

      It depends on ground conditions. i can´t avoid to eliminate bottlecaps in an infested area on the beach. So i´m ready to lose a tiny gold near a bottlecap instead of wasting time to dig 100 bottlecaps in a day. But if u want to hunt for small jewelry, you need to concentrate yourself on very low signals.
      On an infested beach with tiny foil + bottlecaps + pulltab you should discriminate everything up to 30-32 on the Manticore, and forget about small gold.
      This is how discrimination should work...just a matter of probabilities

    Are you positive that the items tested are gold? Did you do an acid test on them. I say this because the vast majority of chains and earrings I find will be marked but are indeed fake. However, most are also gold plated copper, but some are ferrous. 🤔

      I made it a private video. I missed an angle on it so the picture wasn’t complete. There is so much misinformation out there in the world! I was right on with the general all terrain program missing gold. But I didn’t try it on beach. Beach had a complete range. The video was incomplete because it missed an angle. I left 90% of the original video in this one. I just added the angle about the beach general. I’m a teacher during the day. We’re not always going to be right. But the information we give has to be spot on. I wasn’t comfortable leaving the last video up without illustrating the full picture.

Like I said, you’ve got a great sense of humour, you’re intelligent, experienced and you’ve clearly got a great following from so many people who love your content. That includes me! Never stop doing what you do! The fact you can put your pride aside, own up to your faults, well that just puts another feather in your cap and not only helps you learn, it helps all of us. I was surprised you deleted your last video as when you did you also deleted all our comments. That did annoy me as we had a proper good discussion going on and now it’s gone. In saying this, I do understand some of your points for doing so. I know others may not feel the same going from what I’m seeing out there in the land of You Tube. the machine isn't going to do everything in every mode--that's why there are several. you use the word "tradeoff." but don't acknowledge how this might operate. this reject block acts to stabilize the detector at inland environmments by helping the machine to assign targets cleanly on one side or the other. You cant have that AND micro gold response. why have this conversation with yourself and drag the rest of us in? hmmm? attention, maybe?
