  • He is fantastic. The creativity and the way he is approaching music.. He sound like an entire band, he create his own sound effects, he is the most incredible story teller. This was SO impressive and heartbreaking lyrics. Mixed emotions, but wow, what a journey.
Thanks to everyone who took your time to recommend the trilogy!

The twins (Jenny and Screech) were born and laid side by side next to each other then ended up dying side by side (a street apart). When Ren sings "she never had a chance" near the staircase before he (as Stevie) knocks on the door and enters the room. It feels Ren is talking about the whole family, from Violet and her twin babies she was carrying. After a hundred watches that just came to me.

Sorry I didn't read your comment before i started typing,,,,Or I would of just said Ditto. also the fact that Jennies tale was in a well lit alley. Screeches tales starts off with the light above and behind, rens in a darkening stairwell and progresses down into darker surrounding, then hes crying Dear Screech, Dear Boy where did he go? He is down in thedark crying up to the lights one flight up.

Why is this sped up? It's playing at like 1.25x or 1.50x speed. It makes the whole experience MUCH different. Ren is masterful about pace and timing, and this is rushed through, leaving the listener withiut time to really process the story properly. I love the channel & your reactions usually, but it actually made me feel weird and anxious listening to the Tales like this. Its particularly obvious at the start of Violet's Tale, but its all of them sped WAY up.

@SergioOlivieri89 what a ridiculous hill to plant your flag on. The Tales begin playing at 01min 27sec in this video. The original video has a run length of 13min 31sec. In this video, the Tales complete at 14min 19sec, a full 40 SECONDS FAST. I've listened to literal hundreds of reactions to the Tales in the past year. This is played FAST, and it's obviously so.

    • @ucheehQ
      @ucheehQ Місяць тому +2

I just checked by playing it side by side with the original video. You are right, it is sped up, but not by 1.25 or 1.50.
When I put the original vid at 1.05x speed, it is only slightly faster than the one in this reaction. Someone could probably check exact runtimes and calculate precisely how much faster it is, but from what I've quickly tested, it should be lower than 5%.
You're very sharp to have noticed that at all. The fact you say "it's obviously" fast, tells me you've got a great internal clock.
I did feel like something was a bit off about it throughout the whole thing, but dismissed it as probably some lost quality due to capturing/recording/processing.

It was a heartbreaking experience to watch this performance by Ren. I have seen many people react to this and end up tears from such a brutal and all too real series of tales so expertly presented by Ren. Not to forget Ren's guitar playing either, to use it to 'rewind the hands of time' for example was sheer brilliance in my book. Yes, don’t forget Jenny’s father, the bastard. Why did Violet runaway run away. Was she pregnant? Why was the prick so angry? Maybe because Violet was pregnant and he knew the child wasn’t his. Just shows the generational violence which runs in society in some families.

The lines are brutal, but the pocket he is in is my favourite bit of the trilogy.
Also, "Violet was a silent girl..." after "he was a little prick!" is a part nobody comments on, but what he does with his voice is remarkable.

Did you get that violet was the victim of violence, first from her father and then from Stevie the father of her babies that beat her to death, and, Jenny and James (SCREECH) were her chidren that were saved. Seperated by the system, 14 years later Screech kills his own sister not knowing that she was. So they were killed one street apart, dying literally side by side in the order they were born...So Jenny was silent like her MOm and James (Screech) was violent like like his Father.

The Tales are based upon a police blotter article in a paper Ren read, it was the story of a young prostitute killed by another youth during a mugging, then a responding officer killing the youth.
In the article the commanding officer was quoted saying 'they were so young, it's such a shame.' 'It's such a shame' is a phrase Ren uses throughout The Tales.
Some seem to miss that Violet's father 'tuck her tight, but never left the room. I'll spare you with the things he did, I'm sure her mother knew.'
'moved out at 16, a semi-detached council flat provided by a welfare scheme...'
The only girl who would get a flat like that would be pregnant... she was likely pregnant by her father. Multigenerational trauma and abuse.
Stevie calls her a 'little liar' and a 'fucking slut,' this could be because he figured out that she was pregnant before they got together. Levels.
These videos were actually made a year apart. Originally it was just the two videos, but the third part was created to bring them back together as a way to understand the origins of the characters, the generational abuse, neglect, and trauma they led to their lives, a repeat of their parents, and the resulting continuing tragedy.
Some people see 'The Tales' and think they are recent, or the 3 parts of 'Money Game' and not that they go back 3 or 4 years, and that his back catalog is so big.
Ren is obsessive and rehearses endlessly and in filming with his cinematographer Samuel Perry-Falvey does take after take, for 'Money Game Part 1' there were issues so they went all night with about 180 takes, for 'The Tales' they were done about 50 times, for Violet's tale there were 54 takes as something wouldn't go just right in the long live one take shot.
They had one with rain showers at a very special moment but in review it wasn't as good, but in the used version the plane flying over stirring up the seagulls right when 'Stevie' pauses to see what he did to Violet was just as special.
This is Ren very much in 'Bardcore,' he spent much of his youth going with his parents to renassaince festival and likely seeing the British pantomime plays, so this kind of performance was well ingrained for him.

This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing in London at this time. Later that same evening the boy had been shot and killed by the armed police division that responded to a sighting of a possible suspect for a girl found murdered in Sussex Gardens area in Paddington - one of the capital's most notorious red light districts. (In my opinion, I believe) It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with is "It's such a Shame" we say these words all to often and just move on without a second thought. The the lead inspector was quoted saying " So Young, It's such a shame".
Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding another layer of commentary by Ren. (Once again, in my humble opinion) he wanted us to consider not only generational violence but to make us look at all angles of society that we usually turn a blind eye to. Both characters are born out of violence on that cruel night of Violets beating and then both killed with brutal violence on the same night 14yrs later. Also, his lyrics have even more meaning when you read in between the lines. For example he doesn't say what Jenny was doing or why she wanted to escape from this place & life, or why Screech thought she was older saying at Patrick's door "I left this lady lying on the floor". Could that be because the way she's dressed & her heavy makeup? Also why was a 14yr old girl out so late in the dead of night walking alone in a sketchy area, wearing high heeled shoes, walking down a street that "she's walked it a thousand times before"? Everything points to Jenny being an underage prostitute, showing us what Ren writes has reason & is made to make us think. There's no fat on the bone, every word is weighed & has meaning.
Interesting how Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Whereas Screech mirrors his father Stevie (the Prick boyfriend) in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily provoked to violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits due to their genetic make-up OR Nurture, being brought up in the broken governmental system filled with, mistreated & in many cases, abused children, shuffled from one foster home to another ? He organically takes us on this journey, leaving us to think shouldn't we be doing better in this so called "advanced, wealthy, 1st world society.
I'm loving your Ren reactions. Cheers 🥂✌

I hope she was able to hear it at normal speed on the second play, because whatever version she plays here is terribly rushed. I'm not 100% sure you understood the twist ending at the end. Jenny and Screech were twins that were obviously separated at birth after their mother Violet died and presumably their father went to prison. There was zero change in your facial expression when that was revealed and you didn't talk about it at the end. I've watched 100s of reactions on this and everyone has a shocked look when the twist ending is revealed and they talk about it afterward. There have only been a few where I don't think they got it. It would be like watching The Sixth Sense and then talking about it to your friends who have already seen it and not mention the twist ending.

Beautiful reaction, dear Sabina! Now maybe take a look at Ren's lighter side with "Losing It", a catchy rap laid down over an EDM track. Super fun and catchy!

Ren said that he and Samuel have an entire show concept fleshed out for Netflix and are just getting all of their ducks in a row before pitching it to them. Sam confirmed.

A tragic tale of intergenerational violence, Screech was like their dad Stevie, Jenny was like their mother Violet, both separated at birth but both troubled young teens, and he ends up murdering his sister. It's a shocker but my god, the performance. If anyone says they have no money to make a music video show them this. The creativity is outstanding. Love your reactions, I feel I know your face so well ❤

I have watched this (original video) many times and, for me, there's a good argument to be made that these three tales combine to make Ren's greatest creation... so I was confused and for a moment, I thought I'd slipped into another state of mind. I felt almost disassociated if that makes sense? That was for a second or two until I realized everything is sped up, right? His tone sounded off to me, that was the first thing. Then what would have been my automatic singing along with his words wasn't matching up... because everything was happening faster than usual.
I'm not going to lie, I'm still unsure (I'm watching this after working 14 hours) so please; either confirm or deny so I know either way. OR IS IT JUST... pitch-shifted a little? SOMETHING IS OFF and it's driving me to distraction.

Any recommendations? Yes! "Prose - Mr 1 and Mr 2" it's similar in the sense that it's also acoustic, it's also story telling rap and it's also one hell of a story. I think I like it even more than the tales... 🫣
