Here's the origin story of the trilogy 🤩😁🤯 This wasn't originally a trilogy story. Ren read in the paper one day with a small article about a 14 yr old boy killing a young prostitute with a knife in an attempted robbery. Knife crime had been skyrocketing lately. Later that same evening the boy had been shot and killed by the police . It disturbed him, so he set out to write a commentary not just on senseless violence, but on how desensitized we've become to it. The words he ends both Jenny and Screech's Tales with "It's such a Shame" we say these words all to often and just move on, without a second thought. The the lead inspector at the scene said " So Young, Its such a shame". Violets Tale was written over 2 years later adding yet another layer of commentary by Ren. He wanted us to consider not only generational violence but to make us look at all angles of society that we turn a blind eye to. Both characters are born out of violence on that cruel night and then both killed with brutal violence in the same night 14yrs later. Also, his lyrics even more meaning when you read in between the lines. For example he doesn't say what Jenny was doing or why she wanted to escape from this place & life, or why Screech thought she was older saying at Patrick's door "I left this lady lying on the floor". Could it be the way she's dressed & her heavy makeup? Also why is a 14yr old girl out so late at night alone in a sketchy area wearing high heels & that "she's walked it a thousand times before" everything added up points to Jenny being an underage prostitute, showing us what Ren writes has a reason & makes us think. There's no fat on the bone, every word is weighed & has meaning. Also, how can both these siblings be so cursed? Jenny has the same traits as her mother Violet, quiet, voiceless, and timid. Where as Screech mirrors his father Stevie in every way, Loud, obnoxious, and easily prone & provoked into violence. They didn't know one another and had never met their biological parents. What made these kids so much like their parents? Was it simply Nature, inherited traits due to their genetic make-up OR Nurture, being brought up in the broken governmental system filled with, mistreated & in many cases, abused children? He organically takes us on this journey, leaving us to think shouldn't we be doing better job in this so called "advanced, wealthy, 1st world society. Love your channel, Cheers 🥂
There is a supplemental video Ren made that eludes to Screech being beaten by his adopted father. Screech is reluctant to ever go home, which I think adds to that desperation of nowhere to go after he lashes out and kills Jenny.
Hmmm? Have you ever considered that Stevie wasn't the father? That instead, it was Violet's perverted father who sexually abused and impregnated her? That could be a reason how she was able to score a flat thru a welfare scheme, and possibly a reason why the violent Stevie went over board in his distrust of her?
You face when he dropped the twist was everybody’s else’s when they first saw it believe me 😂😂😂. Money game parts one and two and crucify your culture are great. How to be me and chalk outlines with Chinchilla are musts. Great reaction 😁
Brilliant reaction Matty. I was looking forward to you doing this one and am glad you got the twist at the end. It’s surprising (and annoying) that some reactors just look confused at the end and don’t make the connection. Can’t wait to see where you go down the rabbit hole next. 😊
@@MaddyReactions They have to do many takes to get that perfect one shot, but this is true they are one shots. you can really tell in the "hospital" by how the rooms acoustics are used as an effect between his lavalier mic and the boom mic.
Spot on reaction in style ,andso pleased you got the outcome, not everyone gets it! Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla LIVE VERSION, is such a powerful song and will lead into many other great and awesome ones!
He is depicting a bard or minstrel. The "trumpet sound" he makes at the beginning is also a vocal warmup technique. His mother was a voice teacher so he would certainly know that. So the minstrel warms up his voice, then gives a cough to clear his throat & then he's ready to begin his performance.
After listening to Ren very closely for a year I have concluded that he really is unique. A very special talent and person. We are very lucky to have him
Great reaction as always, and you're right about his story telling he is a genius at putting things together. Have a great weekend kid and whatever happens keep smiling ✌️
Ren tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every country at this very moment and the cycle continues
Yes you got the twist very good very perceptive. He wants to speak in detail of horrors that happen daily but are spoken of ambiguosly if at all. It's hard for us to fix a thing we can't face.
Jenny a Screech's tales take place in 2019, when they are 14 years old. Violet's tale takes place in 2005. The implication is that they were twins, separated at birth, and orphaned. Screech was a street thug, and Jenny a young prostitute. And fate brought them back together tragically.
And it also possible that Violet's father was the father of the twins. She was already pregnant when she met Stevie and possibly the reason why Stevie didn't trust Violet, and that she was able to scam an apartment from social services.
Thank you for reacting to the one I recommended and I am sure others did as well. This is like a medieval bard walking from town to town telling the story (the news). And yes what a masterpiece of storytelling and also yes, those guitar skills!
There are lot's of Jenny's and Screech's, and Violet's and Steve's. That's the point Ren is making. He's using his artistry to bring us 'right into the frame'- so it's not the same as just hearing about it as a 15 second news item, that immediately gets lost in the flow of all the rest. He draws us into the story so deeply that we feel right up close to the action. { As one viewer commented; "I feel like I'm a Witness at a Crime Scene! and I should press Pause, and go dial 911 ! } He insists that these are real people, worthy of CARING about. . When the story stays with us and resonates - this is true Art. It's also powerful Social Commentary. Ren asks us to consider; what do we need to do as a community, to stop innocents from turning into these kinds of victims and / or perpetrators?
Yeah, Screech killed his sister without knowing they were related. Screech took on the characteristics of his father, and Jenny was silent and was with an abuser like Violet had. There is a news article that Ren had read about a "woman of the night" being robbed and killed, which inspired him to write this as a way to help break the stigmas, and Violet's tale was written after them, but not based on anyone in reality. Ren is a master story teller, and even acts the scenes out like with Screech calling his gf, who was with Screech's friend that's why he wasn't home. You catch more and more of it when you listen to these a few times. I cannot even tell you how many times within the last 5 months I have heard these songs. I never tire of listening or watching and I follow all the reactors and watch their reactions as I kinda live vicariously through the reactor. That's how I found your channel!
If you rewind a few seconds, after pausing, you don't miss anything, lyrics, transitions etc, and your viewers won't get frustrated at you missing them. :) P.S. It's all from Ren's imagination. He read, in a newspaper, about a 14 year old boy killing a young woman and that was the starting point but everything else comes from Ren. He started wondering what would make a boy that age do that. He wondered who the young woman was etc. Ren is so good and drawing you in, that some people think it's all true, or that large parts of it are but in reality, the only part that bears any resemblance to the news article, is that a 14 year old boy murdered someone.
Hit the back arrow key is like 5 seconds rewind on YT, hit once or twice is a quick way to do it without fiddling with the timeline bar. In fact you can avoid using the mouse and having the cursor and controls show up at all by using keyboard shortcuts, spacebar will pause the video for instance. To see a full list Google 'Keyboard shortcuts for UA-cam.'
Matty you are certainly powering your way through Ren's musical catalogue. Don't be so worried if piecing things together with this performance confused you at first. Three distinct but connected pieces is an interesting concept. I have to admit his description of inter-generational violence knocked me flat, especially discovering Jenny and Screech were twins was a devastating twist. You are right Ren is one hell of a storyteller. Great reaction yet again my friend. It seems you have already discovered my other suggestion Dimash Qudaibergen (looking forward to that reaction). For something a little on the heavier side musically I might suggest NIghtwish specifically their performance of 'Ghost Love Score' at the Wacken Open Air Festival in 2013 ua-cam.com/video/47e_961OQWE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Nightwish :-)
Details are important in all of Ren's work but this one takes a few times to absorb all that is put in to the performance, the few set decorations and the way it all fits together. I know you will enjoy it but read the comments as no one can absorb all the intricate little details in a few watches,
