i commend the developers for at least not giving up on the product, and if the game turns out good once it lunched on pc. i will finally grab me a copy.
You said it! I literally LOL'ed when I saw that! And the graphics look like an HD remaster PS2 game.. Of course, it's not all about graphics.. But still, damn!
I still love the first game the best but when I was finally able to run this on PC without issues, I didn't think it was too bad. Glad to see the console versions aren't horribly broken at release.
I have noticed you have released three unusually long videos in the last two weeks, interwoven amongst your normal videos such as this. I just wanted to express my overwhelming satisfaction with your content. I love your shorter videos for the quick, concise content. I have been loving the longer videos in which you ramble & repeat yourself since they allow for emotions & more in-depth discussions. Not that my opinion matters too much, but I just wanted to ensure you knew how much your viewers enjoy your content, man
Thanks Clint for your comprehensive & fun review, I love the series & concept naturally as a big "Death Race 2000" fan. I love every "Twisted Metal" & other car combat game out & respect your opinion so this is great timing as I wondered if it was worth grabbing for my PS4, thanks man! -Dean Thompson
I remember first hearing of Reincarnation and getting really hyped until the game was finally released, specially since the last Carmageddon related thing I was excited for was the funsize (mobile) ports arriving via Android and iOS. Managed to snag copies of the promo release which was the full version before the price tag was set to $2 after the first day. Then came Reincarnation's release and let's just say it was a bit of a mess. Thankfully, Max Damage is what the game should've been and I snagged it for $20 recently. Does well for what it offers and manages to do well on a non-gaming PC such like my Surface Pro 4.
As somebody who played the crap out of the original Carmageddon when I was a kid, I was so psyched for this remake. Got both the Xbox One and PS4 versions, very underrated game. :) ... Load times could use some work tho
Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
I'm happy to see this series return! I just bought this and have been having a blast playing a modernized version of my favorite childhood racing game. This review is fair; it's not for everyone, but if you loved the first game, it's expansion and Carmeggedon 2, this will be right up your alley.
Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
A criminally underrated game in every single aspect, I'll never lose my respect for the developers for putting in the effort they did. Wreckfest launched on consoles recently and people are applauding in droves on how destructive racers are super uncommon these days, im just entirety convinced this one flew right under the radar and its honestly sad to know that there MIGHT be a larger audience for this game, but they either don't know it exists or the ultra-low IGN score turned them off from it. Games like this DESERVED way better than what they got, and thankfully THQ Nordic might be just as good for this franchise as it was for Wreckfest when it hit development hell. I still play this game a lot, it's a super chill time just relaxing on the couch with a Steam Link streaming the mechanical slaughter straight to my TV screen, I'll continue to shout to the heavens above about how unfairly this game got treated by reviewers and people who had no clue what the IP was even about.
@@Hammeltoni Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
I refuse to buy a console racer with no split-screen. I just won't. Forza Horizon 2 was my only exception. This game would've had mad potential if I could just invite some friends over for some beers, and Carmageddon "Car"nage.
developers have become increasingly skimpy on that with the advent of online multiplayer. At least the new battlefront of all things has it ironically.
Looking at how it just so reaches 30FPS. Rendering 2 independent viewpoints on the same map at the same time would probably require some massive graphical downgrades. But tbh, it would be aweosme if it was included.
Luke-Antra Games like this should perform way better, though. Even on consoles. Just look at Doom 4. One of the best looking games ever made, and they got it run at a constant 60 fps on consoles.
Oh yes, I played the xbox live arcade version fully, but still not as great as the originally game. Everyone I know mostly goes twisted metal, but I liked vigilante 8 more. I remembered seeing those school bus commercials as a kid, fell in love with it right there.
I liked that game so much more than Twisted Metal and at the time I wanted to get V8: Second Offense but never did. I would like to see both those titles remastered than either release a reboot or very late third sequel.
30 or no, that looks pretty damned smooth, and it's not like I'm playing on a 40" TV, so yeah, I'll be picking this up. Thanks for the review - good to find someone I can trust.
After I upgraded my computer, I had no problem running any version of Reincarnation at the highest settings. And when it runs great, makes me feel like Carmageddon 2 all over again. Well, I got the game at launch. And it didn't run well, even after a few patches cause of my slow laptop I was on. But once my tax money came in, so probably a few months later, and I bought a new pc, never had a problem again.

I read some crazy description of what the physics dev/founder of Stainless (Batwick) was implementing in the early versions of Reincarnation. Apparently every impact point sent concentric sine waves of deformation through the panels and polygons of the cars which gave a ridiculous finesse to the carnage... But, as most setups it was played on expired or performed like a flick book I believe it was scaled back/optimised to something similar to what we see here. As their own homebrew tech evolves I'm sure we will see better performance in the future. Can't wait to see this in my stéam library.
carmageddon always felt like more of a sandbox experience, i don't think i ever lost or raced in the original ones as a kid it was a hell of a good timewaster, but now, it just doesn't seem that compelling
I backed Carmageddeon: Reincarnation on Kickstarter, and I didn't even remember to download my backer copy for over a year. But I did it a few months ago, and I liked it a lot!
I actually bought the original Carmageddon on my Kindle (of all platforms) for 89 (€)cents and I was positively surprised! It's the first time I actually played that game to completion! And I'm super hyped to get back to Reincarnation now!

do you have cuda and physx enabled on the gpu settings? I learned that the game works better with those on, I had a 970 until not long ago and the only map I could not achieve 60fps was on city B (the darker one with lots of light sources eating up cpu resources). I picked this game up on the XBox One from Wal-Mart the other day for only $7. I never really had an interest in this series that would have compelled me to seek out Reincarnation or any game in the series, but at $7, I couldn't pass it up. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime.
So they released it on PS4 and Xbox One but still don't bother to release the Linux and macOS Versions which were actually part of the Kickstarter campaign. Good Job.
I love stainless, they actually care about their fans, i bought reincarnation really early on stream and the gave me c1 c2 TDR 2000 and max damage free, like holy shit!
they had to improve their engine (beelzebub), an engine they were using in 1998 for carmageddon 2. of course, the amount they got from the kickstarter campaign was not enough to achieve an AAA engine, in fact the game was practically running on a single core of the cpu during the pre-alpha stages until the late betas stages. nevertheless, even if they are using more modern lightning techniques and virtual texturing, the enginr has not been great at delivering great visuals, but it excels at physics calculations, but these take a toll on the poor cpus being used in nextgen consoles
Hopefully when Max Damage gets to PC, it'll give the game a second chance at good launch publicity. Assuming of course there isn't catastrophic issues on launch day. Please devs, don't fuck this up.
Now, 6 years later you can pick it up for literally 2 dollars. Just found out about this game, and it runs well on my (not so great) machine. So much fun, definitely a nice throwback to my young years beating carmageddon 2 over and over again.
Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
Miles above the PC version at launch. The devs should have waited until they got the game to run. That launch pretty much killed the sales for the game.
Agreed, it really seems like they rushed the PC release just to appease the Kickstarter backers. I'm sure they're hoping they get a second chance at success with Max Damage on PC.
Looks solid enough. Though I'd really rather have a 60fps version of the last Twisted Metal. Or even better, a PC version, but that very likely won't ever happen.
Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
Comparing to the original: the graphics looks way cooler, but the biggest downside for me is the absence of Die Anna and Max Damage, because in my opinion these characters, their reactions and strong language are an important fun part of the Carmageddon spirit!
So the game is called max damage and one of the charities thy cut is called max damage, 2ow the level of stupidity that had to go in to that decision *facepalm*
Just REwatch the video and you shall see that there is no ingame video footage of Max Damage or Die Anna - isn't it obvious? These characters were present in the original Carmageddon.
I cant get the feeling that the early access/crowd funded team behind reincarnation have really LET DOWN the PC community and focused more on selling out to consoles
I picked this game up a week or so ago, and have been obsessively playing it ever since. This game is fucking great. Few games have mastered the art of dumb fun like this one has.
Hello, who wants to play max damage in Multiplayer? I have the steam version and maybe we can do a fox race like in the good old days!! Maybe we can gather more players for this wonderful game!!
Plenty of console games run at 60fps, as they have on every major console since the NES and before. It all depends on how the game is programmed, the engine used, the capability of the hardware, what the developers want to do, etc.
1:14 I think that was poor spot to compare the two versions. There are plenty other stages in Max Damage where you can see far off just fine, I think that fog was intentionally added in. Still not AS pretty, but it's definitely NOT as bad as that comparison makes it out to be. Although this review is a few years old and no one probably cares anymore, so... who the hell? Just talking to myself. Damn.
i commend the developers for at least not giving up on the product, and if the game turns out good once it lunched on pc. i will finally grab me a copy.

That lack of local multiplayer is def a sad thing to see
Why is that no longer a thing?!
It's bad on PC, it's ridiculous and stupid on console.
Just don't get why it isn't a priority for the devs anymore.
Anti piracy measure, I think.
Major Bullshit detected! Well, it's a good reason to move to PC.

No, that's Stig's videogame cousin.

Stig O'Sore is not "the other Stig", sadly. Because if he was, we couldn't really play the game because he'd be too good.

There is a basic flaw in your new game: it lacks of personality, in a word:it is cold.
There are three main changes I would like to see:
1) The new engine is too shiny, too polished, which contrast with the athmosphere and
brutal charming of the original game, so my suggest is to strip off the game from dynamic lights, smooth surfaces,
lowering also the polygon counts, and texture resolution.
2) Where is the in-face camera? that was the core of this game, it added so much personality!
What you can do is looking around and searching for people that want to take part of this ''In-camera''

Hey another person who renmbers that game
My favorite car in Rouge Trip was Rock 'n Rule
Just ordered it on ps4 , the last time I played this game was in the good old DOS days ... Or maybe carmageddon 2000 in Windows ... Ah I forget
Was on sale on Psn for $6. Fun game, didn’t know about the physical release.
Have you ever played the original "Stronghold" for the PC? It's such an awesome "tycoon" type game.
Finally console gamers get a kick ass Carmageddon game. I own the PC version, and love the game. :)
Hopefully when Max Damage gets to PC, it'll give the game a second chance at good launch publicity. Assuming of course there isn't catastrophic issues on launch day. Please devs, don't fuck this up.
One thing for this to be perfect in my opinion:
Sort the loading times and will be good as gold :))
Maybe this would be optimized for the Neo and Scorpio?
They just released this today on Steam!
2:39 how do I do the dashboard mode
if you still play this id like to play with you dude!

ive got both reincarnation and Max Damage, great fun.
It looks really blurry to me- it would drive me nuts. It reminds me of a Unreal 3 game that hasn't finished "loading in" the textures.
I have this game on my Steam Wish List, hoping it would be on sale but, it's not on the Steam Summer sale. :(
I would have taken a cut in resolution for a higher framerate and improved draw distance.
These characters were present in the original Carmageddon.
a little pissed Console got the completed version first since i payed from this when it was in Pre-alpha on PC
30fps looks way too slow for this. I think I'm gonna wait for the PC release. Then again, it's not like I even own a PS4 or an XBOne.
Xbox 720?
Thats what people called ir before one was Announced.
Official Me I just haven't heard it referred to as Xbox 720 in a while, so the article seems like it would be a couple of years old is all.
very cool review.
I cant get the feeling that the early access/crowd funded team behind reincarnation have really LET DOWN the PC community and focused more on selling out to consoles
Wow the draw distance on the ps4 looks terrible compared to the PC in your first comparison. I guess it may run better on the Scorpio or Neo.
I picked this game up a week or so ago, and have been obsessively playing it ever since. This game is fucking great. Few games have mastered the art of dumb fun like this one has.
So true , I love this game , its fun and the developers clearly have passion for it

One question, does it have some kind of replay mode that lets me play director of a death rally movie or something?
yes it does
The lack of local multiplayer ruins it for me. These kinds of games are best played with friends.
you don't even understand I am like the biggest fan off carmageddon and I was playing since gizmondo carmageddon 1
That PS2 draw distance, though.
How do consoles not work at 60fps? The gamecube had games running at 60.
Plenty of console games run at 60fps, as they have on every major console since the NES and before. It all depends on how the game is programmed, the engine used, the capability of the hardware, what the developers want to do, etc.
Sure hope i will change my gtx670 to 1070 or 1080 by the time Max Damage will come out.
It runs very fine on a GTX660
Props to them for giving it for free for PC owners of Reincarnation
A console game, with online multiplayer, but no local one? Where went it all so wrong?
Aww no local multiplayer :( well I won't buy I until they add that. Because I like playing Carmagedon with my brother
wow the PC version looks WAY better
1:14 I think that was poor spot to compare the two versions. There are plenty other stages in Max Damage where you can see far off just fine, I think that fog was intentionally added in. Still not AS pretty, but it's definitely NOT as bad as that comparison makes it out to be.
Although this review is a few years old and no one probably cares anymore, so... who the hell? Just talking to myself. Damn.
When I saw carmageddon as a kid it was scary and felt like a fucked up horror world with cars lol this feels too tame.
there's no one online? man that totally ruins any chance i would buy it - i'd only be getting it for multiplayer
You can get this for $3 (AUD) on GOG now.
love the game happy to see this review i buy it for all if i can
