I felt that this game is not good to play with max resolution cause the HUD gets quite small, so i would go with 1024x720 or 1366x768.
Windows features are thing that makes the game not work properly. but best to play was with Steam version while disabling mip filter.
One way to avoid crashes, is not to go through menus too quickly.
So you're bitching that the game is actually a game, where it challenges you to play.
What good is there, if you have unlimited time cheat code enabled when you take out couple of peds?
...it's just Free Driving mode after that.
In this atleast it keeps you on your toes, to figure out the map and obtain things that give you time like: killing huge piles of peds with mortar,
or look for those clocks that spawn every minute, even taking out an enemy car gives you like 2,5 minutes of time.
Worst Thing that TDR2000 offers is the damage registering factor, where the only good way to take out an enemy, is to drive headon to it with bigger "force" (speed x mass = force),
you can ram the enemy from side of the car to a wall, with 150kmh speed and do 0% dmg (it also depends how far are you in the game, cause enemy has more protection in later levels).
Best Things are the innovative missions that offer a change for you to explore the maps better, and do something unique.
These missions are way better than what C2 has to offer, where the:
First mission of the game is just lap racing.
Second mission is a good one, with jumping on the rooftops, but still kinda shit cause the car handling is just so shitty for that kind of thing.
Third mission is a pedhunt, something where you have to kill 22 unique peds, while trying to understand how you can find em.
Fourth mission is simple, take out a big truck
    Fifth mission again, another race...
Sixth mission is another ped hunt.
Seventh mission is another ped hunt, but with interesting challenge.
Eight mission is a cool and feels like an actual mission
Ninth mission, is something different than usually which is good.
Tenth mission is a really cool mission, impossible in hard difficulty without a massive car.
Eleventh mission is another good mission i guess.
Now compare those to TDR2000 missions:
    1. Make a bomb to get access to the batcave, and then go to the catacomb to free the shark.
    2. Get equipped, and kill the clunky shark in the water
    3. Collect chips that you can use to activate the big gorilla, that can let you escape the town.
    4. Get mission orders from radio tower, then Nuke enemy base.
    5. Stop enemy gangleader and his bodyguards by roadblocking with anything you can find in the map, and kill them.
    6. Activate turbines to power up elevators, so you can make a jump from the rooftop, to escape the city.
i only mentioned six missions and they all are much better ones than in previous carmaggeddons, so why the fuck would you complain about them?
Regarding to "Summer Nuke Fest" mission, where you have to nuke the Thunderdome, is that you can also push the bomb, instead of dragging it.
The mission i like the least in TDR2000 is a mission called "Red Mist", where you have to kill 20 peds around thunderdome.
Cars could have more variations in terms of speed, cause most of them have the speed limit of 240kmh.
Blood & Bones, felt like it was spinning quite easily.
Jaws was really good car, cause it accelerates pretty fast and is AWD, and you can burn peds with the afterburner in the back.
I agree about Monster Truck being weak.
Lucifer is something that ruins this game if you get it as an opponent , it could be lower on the ground, but you only unlock it as an enemy after beating the game.
Wheel is actually something you drive backwards, so you're just doing it wrong.
i wish some of the cars like Electric Blue, could had features like functioning Electric bastard ray from time to time, or Witch Doctor would confuse peds or enemy players... stuff like that.
Most effective car is to destroy others is the steam machine, and best car to drive is Gorvette.
But anyway it's much better game cause the driving is just feels so good. And you can even learn to drift with cars in this.
it's way better than driving on ice like some piece of turd, which is the driving feeling on earlier carmageddons, while having low gravity cheat code turned on, until you find that jupiter gravity powerup.
Nothing impressive about Necropolis?! there's broken motorways, a ship on the land, big buildings.... the map is just another cool map design. while maybe having peds outside of bounds.
All n' all maps are really good, no complaints
Towards end of the game/review, you sound like you just were rushing to complete the game in a short time, it's your problem that you try to rush games, instead of trying to enjoy it without nagging about it.
Last comments you have about the game, are just very lazily developed thoughts. This game has less problems than you do.
And there you go, blame the company, make it look like it was Torus's fault that lazy Stainless crew is not innovative to design anything creative at their past time for the "last 15 years".
Stainless has made NOTHING innovative after C2.
Did you perhaps take your opinions from the internet, i wonder if you came up with any of these opinions by yourself.
You don't seem to appreciate the world of this game, how fucking cool it looks, while having totally new collection of cars to drive in it.
Again the only thing i wish is better, is the hitboxes of the cars, so that you could damage them from each side.
Music could have been little better, but playing with ambient sounds was ok to me.
The thing that enemy cars are racing really fast when you dont see them, is little weird.
Going through menus could be little more faster, and there's little too many menus. And there's not enough options to change things.
DLC is something that could an option to turn on, in case people would want to play without it, these cars at the start ruin the game experience, cause you're supposed to unlock them while playing the game.
Your Story/Review of the game is somewhat informative, belittling and childish. You could go through little more stuff, and write a better script.
    Grade: B-

Pinning this so everyone can read the fucking novel you wrote lol. Here's my fanfic sequel:
Firstly, I'm not bitching that the game is challenging. It's actually the opposite, it's mostly piss easy up until the end when it gets slightly annoying, but nowhere near hard. "What's the point of the game if you have unlimited time cheat code enabled when you take out a couple of peds?" Same as the first 2, run shit over and break stuff.
Regarding the missions, I complained about them because I thought they were stupid and I wanted to go back to the races. I thought I was fairly straightforward in the video but I guess not.
"Wheel is actually something you dive backwards" Wow, I feel dumb for not knowing that out of 50 cars that all go forward, I didn't suspect that one is supposed to go backwards.
"Driving is better" I agree, I said exactly that in the video.
"Towards the end of of the review you sound like you were just rushing to complete it" I sound like that because I said exactly that in the video.
"Lazy Stainless" Stainless wasn't lazy, they got booted from the series because they wanted to make another game before Carma 3. I guess you're right that they never made anything innovative afterwards, but neither did Torus lol.
"You don't seem to appreciate the world of this game and the cars in it" Those are quite literally the only 2 things I praised about this game. I even said these aspects were better than the first 2.
I actually really appreciate your paragraph about the script and find it helpful. I wasn't completely satisfied with how the narration turned out in this video and I made a big mistake where I talk about the Eagle Mk. 4 while footage of the Ped Basher is in the background, which I'm surprised no one has pointed out.
Sorry I was negative about a game that you like. Part of the reason I don't like complaining on this channel and try to look for the good in games but I thought this one sucked, sorry.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed my fan sequel, I'll be ordering the hard cover of your book off goodreads later today.

      @@snesbagel Thanks for pinning?
I felt it was little difficult to gather money up on hard difficulty, therefore progressing in the game was slower.
Mission like "Traffic Jam" would be a breakpoint for people who are not playing with DLC.
If there weren't any missions, do you think they could have been able to make a story, without the player being part of it?
If it only had carma races, and after those maybe a little cinematic after completing the last race of the zone.
I just feel it could have been dry and dump experience without missions.
I think Torus felt that it wasnt a game, if there was unlimited time. But that's just my speculation
I think playing the game with the Wheel, might be best challenge to have.
If we are going to "comparing wars", just look what both Torus and Stainless have made.
What im seeing is that Stainless devd a lot of "remakes" from old atari titles (asteroids, centipede, missile command, tempest),
then a lot of the same MTG videogame titles.
When you go look the titles that Torus has worked on, then you might get my idea of calling Stainless people "lazy".
Can't say much about innovation regarding to both of the studios, cause i haven't played their somewhat less known games.
You don't have to be sorry, you are free to say what you want and have your own opinion.
You have my respect on making the video and responding.

@@snesbagel Right now im the only one who has done speedrunning for the game, it was actually fun to design my own fastest routes and execute them, since no1 has really done any.
It took me about 3 months to figure out all the possible fastest routes while only using Eagle on hard mode.
And there were some seriously good cuts to perform.

@@Wulgare Personally, I'm not sure how much Carmageddon as a concept lends itself to having much of the story be front and center in the game. It's definitely a challenge, which is why I think they should've just put more time into refining the core mechanics as opposed to trying to jury-rig a narrative into it. I don't know what much else they can do other than blurbs in the manual. Maybe text before each level that give background on the location? Idk.
With regards to comparing the studios, I'll agree that other than the Carmageddon games, I don't find Stainless' output that impressive either.

Also a fun fact about the game. The 1.0 version had an bug where if you bought too many opponent cars in the first section of the game you'd permanently ruin your save file.
Essentially the game never made you compete against the cars you already own so you very quickly run out of opponents to play against and when that happens it would crash the game.

This was a fun watch. TDR2000 is actually my favorite game in the series (and of all time) and I know how psychotic that sounds, but hear me out.
TDR was the first Carma title I ever played, and I basically grew up playing TDR2000. Right now, I am working on a mod pack that reworks a lot of what is wrong with TDR and adds all kinds of new fun content like new vehicles, new maps, and some changed up missions. After this I could never go back to playing vanilla TDR2000. It has iconic vehicles from the Carma franchise (The Plow, Hevy Impaler, Loggerhead, The Harvester, etc etc.) along with iconic real life vehicles such as the General Lee and Grave Digger from Monster Jam. That's not to mention the many other awesome original vehicles the mod pack features. When this release is out, would you be interested in giving it a review?

Oh, I remember not being able to make the Carmageddon TDR 2000 to run even on the contemporary hardware at the time. And this is actually the first time I even see the actual gameplay. Nice of them to not only return the shittiest part of Carmageddon 2, but make it 100 times worse. Instead of ramming the cars, you always ride on the roofs. In that case return of Vlad is not surprising, because his car is the only one that did that in the first game due to always doing a wheelie on the back wheels. Maybe developers thought this is the best part of the games or something I dunno.

I didn't even knew people hated this game when I was kid before I got the internet.
Honestly, before the internet was where I got all the info on games, I remember playing Carma 1,2 to death and afterwards TDR 2000.
And I remember loving the crap out of it, despite the timed missions.
Missions were introduced in Carmageddon 2, but just like with that game I just played the missions so much that I got really good at them, that now I just don't see them as that much of a problem.
Don't get me wrong I still think the game could've been better without them, but I don't hate them.
The game never bugged out, glitched out or anything like that, I always had a good time with it.
I guess it has to be like a Contra 3 thing, where people call it the hardest Contra ever, but for someone who's been playing that game on and off since 8 years old, I just don't think of it as a hard game at all.
It could be, and I don't call it a skill issue, but more or less experience from a forced need to adapt and get the most out of games when I had fewer games to play.

Allow me to assure you, TDR2k also ran like dogshit back in the days, not just now. Getting it running was a chore and it was crashy, and buggy as they come. And f all those missions. Especially f that one mission where you have to knock the bomb off that truck, then pick it up somehow?!?!? and deliver it somewhere, all on a stupid timer, most of which is spent trying to get the bomb off the stupid truck. ARGH I friggin' hate the missions in this game so SO goddamn much. edit: I see you had as much pleasure with that level as I did. So I played it and I finished it over several long weeks. I hated the game, I was like 14 years old and I could not comprehend how they could create a game that is worse than it's predecessor. 11:48 - anybody knows another game where you can control a vehicle like this? Like a portable Ferris wheel?
I remember when I came to a computer club as a kid in the early 2000s, I launched some game, where, I think, there was a car similar to the Wheel. I remember that you had to drive counterclockwise, and it seems like "The Boulevard" level is exactly what I saw a long time ago. But for some reason, my imagination seemed to embellish this memory, and other cars seemed to be no less eccentric than a miniature Ferris wheel. My friends quickly turned off this game for me and launched GTA Vice City instead (I think), but the memory of some absurd racing game remained for around 20 years to come.
I'm not 100% sure, but it seems that that childhood game that I didn't even really play is this one. Carmageddon TDR 2000.

@@snesbagel, yes, I've already tried searching in search engines several times.
Today I saw a UA-cam short about the Juggernaut actor's muscle suit in "X-Men 3" or "Deadpool and Wolverine", I don't know exactly which of these films, and so I decided to try a new way of searching for information.
So, I found one TV series from my childhood (Weird Science) with the help of ChatGPT-4o, which I also searched for a long time, since I really remembered the episode from there "One Size Fits All" about the muscle suit.
After solving a long-standing "sleeping" problem, I decided to close other gestalts from the 2000s. The second gestalt was the absurd racing game. And it seems I found the right game in the form of Carmageddon TDR 2000. I just don't know what else might be suitable, except for this one. So I left a comment, maybe someone will see it someday and be able to confirm that there are no more racing games with a controlled wheel-like vehicle in the world.
There is only one gestalt left. I remember playing a 3D platformer/adventure at my father's friend's. The only thing I remember about it for sure is blue frogs (not anthropomorphic) as either enemies or trampolines. But I have very little input here, so neither ChatGPT nor search engines will help. Only by some miracle will a reddit post catch the eye of someone who knows what I'm looking for. And if I search myself, it will take A LOT of time, I don't have that much.
By the way, I'll probably subscribe to your channel. I see that you have reviews of some titles that are in my Steam library, but which I myself am unlikely to get to anytime soon, but about which it would be interesting to watch a video.

To be fair the series always had crazy over the top car designs that weren't as useful as others.
And I always thought of those as just joke designs meant to mess around with the physics engine just for the fun of it.
And not as some viable tool, heck if you did good with a really bad car that was a challenge as a badge of honor in itself among gamers who played the Carma games.
Which is why I never was that much of a fan of the "BALANCE" discussion in multiplayer games.
I think balancing out the fun out of games is why I don't like newer multiplayer games anymore.

TDR2000, like 2, missions were not a bad thing for me, mostly fun so that point is null for me. What I didn't like was in fact how little time I would get for running pedestrians, vehicles felt weightless due to how little damage (if any) they would do and AI didn't felt that great for good ol' brawling. I did like the driving itself but the car visual damage was definitely not as good as 2.
Game ran "Okay" for me, definitely got it running faster than 2 but otherwise it would crash at times for no reason. I like the car variety in itself at least, my favorites being "Viper", Cop Car and Suppressor"
Map wise it was fine, some maps felt nicer than others and some maps were just bad. Floppiest of the games imo

@@snesbagel Fun fact, TDR2000 got a few vehicle mods, including literally just a T-Posing Heavy from TF2 as well as "Cart Dog" enemy from DUSK as a vehicle and the Maverick helicopter from Vice City lmao

Yeah, when I was going through the list of cars after beating the game I did a double take at that one and was like "well that's not goin' in the video".

Strange but for me running the first two games is much more problematic than tdr. Both on modern and retro pc. Still cant run the first two without issues. But tdr works well.

Yeah, I got the impression that it's kind of crapshoot with this thing. Other than the initial problems I had, it mostly ran fine but like I said there's some people who can't get it to work no matter what they do.
