My 98 Sienna sat in a junkyard from 2009-2023 until I bought it. Got it going and replaced several things it needed from sitting. Now 2 years and 30,000 miles later its still my daily driver, very dependable.
@jonathangatto the 2004-2008 Siennas were known for issues. The 1998-2003 are considered the best and most reliable generations of Siennas ever built and I can say that is 100% true.
@julesandersen3659 here in the USA depending on the state or how it's titled, some vehicles can't be put back on the road once they are listed as "salvage." Most junkyards here won't sell an entire vehicle either.
Yeah, I agree, the car has potential, but it hasn’t been well maintained. There will be a second episode where I continue working on it, and that’s when it’ll become clear whether it’s worth restoring.
Great video and well done to you sir for saving and bringing this Toyota back to life, i am a huge Toyota fan boy my self and i have a 99 Corolla and 2002 Rav😀 Subscribed and happy new year to you🎆🇳🇴🎇
Thank you so much, my friend! Happy New Year! I really appreciate your support, and it might sound strange, but sometimes I genuinely feel the encouragement from my viewers. :)
1998-2000 Siennas (like the one you have) were great cars, 2001-2003 (GEN 1 2.0) were even better. They had an updated transmission (A541E vs A540E), and the 1MZ-FE engine went from 194 hp to 210 hp due to variable valve timing (VVT-i). And despite what you might read elsewhere, none of these 3.0 engines are interference engines so don't worry too much about changing the timing belt...and the belts very rarely break anyway. The 98-00 models did not come with the sliding driver's side door as standard, but it was standard in the 01-03 models. The 01-03 models had a revised grill and revised taillights (no more amber), as well as a revised dashboard (gauge and radio placement) and console. These cars were built on the Camry chassis and are smaller and much better built than the 2nd gen Siennas (which have rust, broken door hinges, and cracked dashboards). Except for some rust along the leading edge of the hood and on the spare tire carrier, rust is rarely a problem with these years of Sienna. With good care, these cars will go three to four hundred thousand miles. I bought my first one used in 2008 and these are now the only cars that I will drive...good used ones getting rare but are still available as of 2024, and you can still purchase them at a reasonable price from people who don't know what they have!
Thanks for such a detailed comment! I really liked how you pointed out the small details (like the placement of buttons in the updated versions). I'm the same way, and I love working on cars too! Honestly, I'm not sure what to do with this Sienna. I want to remove the engine oil pan and see what's going on inside, and then I'll make a decision from there.
Hello and happy new year. I love what you do in this video. I do exactly the same thing on my channel cvvt by Vincent Raynaud. The only difference is that I would have tried to restart it before extracting it. good job 😊
I bought it in this condition. The rear doors wouldn’t open because they were rusted shut, and the car had a terrible smell. That’s why the owner left their personal belongings inside.
All the phones, laptops, and tablet were an interesting find. You could try fixing them or selling them as is for parts. I’d imagine the apple products are worth something
Ppl give up on things too easily. Mine was destined for the junk yard. I fixed it and I already did 20000kms since. Now I can save my money for a newer one in the future

@@ArturStone, yes; as if the jack stand would punch a hole right through the panel and the rear end of the vehicle would come crashing down. Oh heck no am I working underneath that!
Yeah, I cut the brake line in that spot. The area under the tank was heavily rusted-struts, bolts, fuel lines, and brake discs were all affected! But the front section was fine, so I cut it there and reconnected everything. At that timestamp, I’m showing that after bleeding the brakes, everything’s fine-no brake fluid leaks anywhere.

After that, I secured the steering wheel with a cloth strap. Thank you, and happy holidays to you and your family!

My 2007 Sienna only made it 167 miles before the HVAC doors stopped working. Timing cover oil leak and a head gasket leak. That one was not reliable

Unfortunately, everything is rusted: the struts have completely rotted over time, and even the seat adjustment is seized up with rust.
